"Sportsball" in other languages
Tumblr media
So in English we have this term “sportsball,” which is a casually derisive and belittling way to refer to any athletic competition involving a ball, as illustrated in this shared-to-death 2016 Adam Ellis comic. My question: Are there equivalent words in any other languages?

What's truly wild to me, as someone who never really got into sports and who has never understood the ferver around them, is that they're fucking... games.
They're games.
They're absolutely, categorically NOT WORTH the attacks on the personhood of those trying to participate.
They're fucking team-building exercises being used for violence, and that's a really good reason to divest from sports culture.
Stop tying higher education to athletic aptitude, and that'll get rid of the (entirely unfounded) fear of trans people "taking" scholarships away from cis athletes.
Stop spending your money on sports merchandise, propping up a system of institutionalized sexism where excellent women athletes are paid and publicized way less than mediocre men in the same sport.
It honestly baffles me how the sports industry has been allowed to continue to exist. You all know you can just get a sports ball of your choosing and play the games yourselves, right? Go make friends.
Stop letting gatekeepy douchebags trick you into letting fucking GAMES be the social line we draw through the humanity of their participants, its the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen.

Why do I keep seeing transmascs and trans men insisting or implying that all trans men are "female socialized," or "understand the female experience," or "navigated the world as a woman." Because yeah, sure, that can be true for some people. especially if you weren't gnc at all as a kid and didn't crack your egg until well into adulthood, it makes sense.
But they don't stop at saying they had that experience. It always comes with an addendum that trans men, as a group, all can relate to this experience. I don't know about the entirety of my demographic, but I never got even a little bit of what some of them talk about. I didn't even believe that women were scared of going out at night until I kept consistently seeing them say it, online or wherever, for years. I never realized catcalling was a thing until I saw some women complaining about it on reddit.
But they posit it as some sort of, you're safer than cis men, right? You know what it's like? Which, on top of being patently, demonstrably false in the case of myself and many other trans men, holds some unpleasant and often outright hostile implications about trans women. And they always deny it, but if you can't even conceptualize someone like me who grew up gnc, and never got the bulk (or any?) of whatever we consider to be 'female socialization,' what does that say about what you think trans girls went through, growing up? I don't want to speak for them, as I've never experienced that firsthand, but I can guarantee that (if you're even a little bit obviously trans) people don't treat you like a cis kid of the opposite gender. By and large, they don't get treated like cis boys.
It just makes me mad that we're taking this inaccurate framework that (ever so conveniently) puts trans people into the box of our assumed birth gender, and trying to fancy it up and use it with a faux-progressive veneer; never mind the way that transphobes use it to bar trans women from being athletes, or using the bathroom, or having access to any gendered resources they need. It would be bad enough to try and dust it off and use it even if it were largely accurate, due to the aforementioned connections to outright transphobia, but it literally is patently false. Not in all cases, obviously, but why are we trying to revamp this untrue, inaccurate generalization and pretend that we can make it 'trans-inclusive?'

You know what would be really funny. If Jason had the most normal/conventional food taste out of his siblings (still very far from regular people’s “normal”), he’s stuck in the manor because of an injury and therefore has to witness the culinary WAR CRIMES his siblings consume for sustenance. Since there’s no Alfred to stop them anymore, they have been running rampant.
Jason: What. The fuck. Is that.
Damian, pouring out a green sludge into two cups: father and I’s breakfast smoothie, or did you hit your head hard enough to forget the concept of a smoothie?
Jason, scooting his chair away clutching his water bottle to his chest: yeah I dont know what nuclear reactive, Gotham harbour concoction you so flagrantly bestow the title of “smoothie” on but keep that shit FAR away from me
Tim: *sits down next to Jason, cracks open a can of energy drink and pours it into a glass, pouring milk on top until it reaches the brim*
Jason, with tears in his eyes looking at Dick for help:
Dick: *shrugs, shoving a fistful of dry cheerios into his mouth*
Jason: *turns his horrified gaze to Cass*
Cass: *grins at him toothily with two heaping plates of a full English breakfast sitting in front of her. He has no idea where she got it from. She is using a set of utensils for each plate.*
Jason: *stands up calmly* maybe I should stop looking for the unstable bomb I lost in the manor the other week *walks out of the kitchen, a few moments later a shrill scream is heard*
