Following my tierlist of them, I realized I should make a public list so theyre not just kept in my head, since I spent quite a while finding these characters. If you want to watch/play anything with trans or gnc characters, you can use this list.

They range from good rep to bad, characters viewed as "traps" or not taken seriously to ones that the whole fandom understands is trans. I've added trigger warnings to the characters and fandoms I know can be triggering. I've also put certain names in bold to show that they're a main character, but i've only watched a few on this list so some are missing.

I would add trigger warnings for "bury your gays" and similar tropes, but I want to avoid spoilers. Maybe you can look it up first if you're worried. I've tried to exclude characters that are referred to as hermaphrodites.

Japan Sinks 2020 Spoiler Free Review:

This anime pulled me in and has me binging it in a day. The characters were interesting, and the premise was just as good!

There were only a few things I didn't like about it:

1. The unpredictable storyline (and I don't mean that in a 'whoa I didn't see that coming' way, I mean that in a 'is this the same story?' Kind of way)

2. The anatomy of the characters was a little all over the place, especially the hands.

Other than that, I enjoyed all of the characters and their relationships, alot of the plot twists I couldn't see coming, and the ending was just what I needed from it.

as i read violence jack as part of the vj bookclub i try to write a summary for each chapter, in hopes that maybe those who don't want to or can't read vj can know what goes on, or maybe pick and choose which chapters they're looking for specifically. here is ch 1, plus a few of my thoughts. idk if i'll keep up with this format specifically, but we gotta start somewhere!

violence jack chapter 1 (volume 1)

non-spoiler summary: A 9.8 magnitude earthquake directly strikes central Tokyo, causing widespread destruction and death. This chapter mostly follows Ryu Takuma, an elementary school student in 5th grade, as he attempts to survive the earthquake and search for his family.

my thoughts: honestly i REALLY liked this chapter and would encourage all who are fine with brutal violence and typical go nagai-isms to read it. this is just a good disaster story and really pulled me. some of go nagai's best art and paneling is here too. just a really good disaster story with a lot of building up to the earthquake, even though you know it's going to happen right from the beginning! also if anyone has watched japan sinks 2020 (or read the book but i haven't read it), it's really interesting to me since the manga directly references the book, and the chapter really reminds me of japan sinks 2020, at least... also, yuasa directed both devilman crybaby and japan sinks 2020, so it kind of feels like "yuasa's violence jack" in a way lol. (japan sinks 2020 is ok, i enjoyed it well enough, but it was a bit more "tragedy porn" than even ch 1 of vj)

A 9.8 magnitude earthquake directly strikes center Tokyo, causing widespread destruction, death, and eventually leading to the Kanto region to break away from the rest of Japan as a new island. The chapter largely follows Ryu Takuma, an elementary school student in 5th grade. Ryu lives a normal life until the giant earthquake strikes while he's at school. He runs through Tokyo to find his family (especially Yuri, his favorite older sister) and finds countless destruction and death. Eventually he reunites with Yuri and he joins an evacuation group led by Yuri's teacher. The group walks through a mountain range west of Tokyo, but a volcano erupts which eventually kills both Yuri's teacher and Yuri. Ryu is left to survive alone, eventually forming a group with other orphans.

So I just finished watching Japan Sinks 2020 and major spoiler warning ahead!!

So, in episode 4 or 5 the crew end up in that happy village (which high key, glad to know I'm not the only one who immediately thought it was a cannibalistic cult. What a reversal.) And in that village, Ayumu takes on a job to take care of a man who's fully paralysed. He can twitch his fingers pretty good and he can blink, but yeah that's about it, can't talk or make sounds or anything. Well, he's Onodera-san and even before that revral I saw him and was like "he's my favourite character. Iono how long he's been in this condition, but hell yeah dude, you survivin!" I mean, I figured he was definitely going to die when this mini Arc finished finished because it was clear that he was gonna be the sage character who gives the main character some much needed information and then once he did, there'd be no more use for him story wise.

BUT BOI was I wrong and FUCK YEAH I'M SO HAPPY I WAS. Tell me how this dude SURVIVED the ENTIRE PLOT -after being introduced- and his ONE LINE of "dialogue" (is, the only time the show gave us subtitles for what he was communicating rather than have the other crew figure it out through the note app and whatnot) was "I want to punch everyone in the face who said I was wrong" like DUDE. I'LL HELP YA.

Like, man, does anyone realise that by just existing, he single handedly stared a proverbial Charles Darwin in the eye and said "yeah, who's the fittest here?? Me bitch." And !!!!! An absolute legend. I am SO HAPPY that he lived, cause I'm honestly over this mentality of "leave the weak to perish" meanwhile it was the MOST "FIT" PEOPLE WHO DIED FIRST except my girl nanami from the beginning, that was so cruel to have her beat up a would be r*pist and then kill her off in the next episode but you know what?? Water under the bridge, because they 👏🏽kept👏🏽that👏🏽energy👏🏽 later on when ayumu bodied that pervert as well!

But for real, I'm so happy that Onodera-san made it to the end! You KNOW he was having some attitude in his head, judging the crew for all their dumbass decisions. like really, they decided they was just gonna ignore the big old barge of uber nationalistic Japanese people chanting "purify japan! We are the pure! We are real Japanese!" And STILL decided to drag their non pure asses to the boat guide?? I swear, Onodera-san was like "um... I know these fools ain't about to drag my dark ass, his foreign ass, and THEY dark asses onto that boat, mufuh's crazy and stupid.". Gods, I love this show.

Could've done without that random sex scene. It was consensual which, kudos to making the only graphic sex scene consensual and playing the noncons as disgusting before bodying them, but yeah it threw me off guard and came out of nowhere. And I guess it added something in hindsight? That the lady and her body guard were actually married with a kid who probably has some sort of intellectual disability and OK, another tangent, HELL YEAH MOMMA AND POPS making an entire ass community where everyone is accepting of others without expecting anything from anyone, JUST so you could raise your son in a community that won't shun him for his disability. Excellent spotlight on Japan's poor treatment of those with mental disorders.

Gosh this SHOW.
