Okay, since I haven't seen many posts up yet about this, not that I blame anyone since others are probably at school and work rn, I want make a post summarizing what happened so far in the latest event on the JP server.

Disclaimers:

All of this info came from LuluBelle over on my Discord server, so all the credit for gathering this up goes to them.

Also, I don't know how to speak or read Japanese nor do I have the JP version of the app, making me unable to verify this. Take this all with a huge mountain of salt.

Like I said in my other post, I'm calling him Honest Fellow, since that sounds less awkward and I think it'll be localized to that anyway.

JP Event Spoilers Below

The arc starts with Honest Fellow and Giddel selling the themepark to some faceless NPCs. After some convincing, they enter the park. Honest Fellow evil laughs.

We cut to a basketball game between RSA and NRC. NRC lose yet again. NRC fight amongst themselves, and the teachers break it up.

After the game, Floyd, Ace, Yuu and Grim, wallowing in their frustration at NRC's loss to RSA, decided to go Craneport to get some snacks. There they find Jade and Jack on the way.Jack was there to get some new threads while Jade was there by sheer coincidence.

Kalim and Ortho arrive. They were in a bookstore, because Kalim was searching for books concerning magic potions, since he's struggling with those and Sam's shop was closed. (I have no idea why Jamil wasn't there either, because him leaving Kalim unattended seems kinda ooc.)

Honest Fellow along with his brother swoop in, making their sales pitch. Grim wonders about what Playful Land is exactly. Ace explains that it's a mysterious amusement park that nobody knows where it is. Honest Fellow says that's correct.

Honest Fellow gives the group tickets to the park. When Kalim says they'll go the next weekend, Honest Fellow chimes in, saying, "Oh, no, no! You can only use it until tomorrow!" They both fuck off into the night.

When the group gets back, they tell Riddle and Jamil about the tickets. They're both like, "Hell no!" Riddle shoots it down because skipping classes is unforgivable. (Ace was originally gonna invite Deuce, but he tattled on him to Riddle, since he found the whole thing suspicious. Honestly, good on him.) Jamil finds it suspicious and puts his foot down, telling Kalim that he forbids him from ever going.

Jack tells Leona, who is all like, "Nah, this is kinda fishy." Jack decides that he has to go because he promised Honest Fellow he would, and he doesn't want to break it.

Floyd tells Azul. He says, "Nope, I'm not coming. It's sus, and I don't wanna owe anybody anything!" They tweels laugh, saying that they want to check it out BECAUSE it's shady.

Ortho tells his brother. He shoots it down, since he doesn't like crowds. Ortho then confides in Vil thanks to them being in the same club.

Early the morning, before the sun rises, the group gathers to sneak to the harbour in town. Kalim managed to get the rest of the Light Music Club to come along, because they saw just how sad Kalim seemed and decided to tag along to comfort him. Vil was convinced to come along by Ortho. One, he wants to see what's the big deal about this park. Two, he's also suspicious, and, as a dorm leader, he wants to oversee all of his juniors and make sure they're all okay. Trey followed after Ace because Deuce asked him for his help and had the feeling that Ace would be stubborn enough to rebel and sneak out even though Riddle said no. Leona followed after Jack because he felt like he had to be the responsible one for once and was genuinely concerned about Jack's well being.

Honest Fellow arrives. He is just so dramatic. Half of them go, "Fucking really? Why did any of our juniors trust this guy? He's as sus as a FNAF animatronic!" (Not in those words, obliviously, but along that same idea.)

Honest Fellow shows them around the park. Which looks like this...

The park is more like those travelling summer fairs where it goes from town to town instead of staying in one place like Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm or any of the Disney Parks. The boys can kick back and indulge in their darkest desires.

The third years still feel that this whole thing is kinda sus. Since Grim and some of the others head straight to the entry gate, they reluctantly go along with it to watch over their juniors. Grim face plants into the gate, because he didn't show a ticket. Ace shows his ticket. Ace, Grim and Yuu's clothes get magically altered to resemble the ones on the card. The same thing happened to everyone else.

After everyone's gotten inside the amusement park, we have a foreboding speech from Honest Fellow and Giddel about how the young generation are easily skeptical, but can still be fooled by the promises of a fun play park. Honest Fellow mentions how he and Giddel should accommodate their visitors… for it will be the "last'' fun memory that they'd have. Cue End of Part 1.

Some other minor side things...

It's confirmed. Honest Fellow and Giddel are brothers.

Honest Fellow is a mage, but is less magically inclined compared to the NRC boys. Giddel is a non-mage.

Lulu, aka the same person from my Discord server, suspects the themepark itself might be a magic tool of some kind. Considering how it operated in the movie and novel along with fan theories about them, I'm inclined to believe them.

We also finally got a description of what Yuu is actually wearing during this event. (Honestly, it's about fucking time. Because one gripe I always had with these events is that we never get even a small description of what Yuu is wearing, which makes it harder to imagine what's going on in my head.) Basically, they are wearing the same style jacket as Leona, but with the same colours as Lilia's costume. Do with that information as you will Malleus/Yuu shippers.

Honest Fellow has a Honest John pendant on his hat.

More of a personal gripe, but I'm not sure what to make of Honest Fellow as a character yet. Right now, he seems like the mastermind behind this whole operation, but that doesn't make sense. In the movie, Honest John wasn't on board with the Pleasure Island shit, and only went along with it thanks to the Coachman threatening him and Gideon's lives. Wouldn't it be far more fitting for him to be a lacky of another villain and being forced to go along with it out of fear of having the same thing happen to him and his brother? And if that was the case, that would also better align him thematically with Ortho, who's brother is the same way towards him. But I'm reserving my judgements on his character until the event is over.

Playful Land gives me major Joy Joy Land vibes.

I find the idea of Leona, Trey and Vil going there, because they are worried about their juniors adorable. They are really tapping into their big brother instincts, even if I doubt Vil and Leona would ever admit it out loud.

Though, one plot hole with this whole thing is why didn't Jamil, Trey and Deuce rip up the tickets if they were that concerned about the others going to the park? Granted, the tickets could be enchanted so that they're impossible to destroy, but I never heard if that's the case yet. Idk, it's a nitpick, but it's still something that annoys me a bit as a writer myself.

This is a project I've been wanting to do for a long time, and I'm wicked excited to finally be here!

In UU Book Club, I'm going to be reading one chapter at a time, posting screens and talking about the story and my theories as I go. My goal is to point out small details and foreshadowing for long-term fans while keeping things spoiler-safe for first time readers who want to follow along with me!

Before we start, a few things:

I'll be using the official Shonen Jump translation for my read through. We'll be sticking with their localization choices!

I might mention the anime occasionally, but I think it's best as a companion to the manga, rather than your main experience. It's a fun watch, rough pacing and all, but there are differences here and there that might change how you see the story.

I want to keep my posts safe for first time readers, so any spoilers will be clearly labelled and placed behind a read more.

I'll try to tag things appropriately, but there's some content in UU that's so ubiquitous that it's impossible to avoid. There may be untagged blood, gore, dismemberment, suicidal action, or body horror on this blog. If you struggle with this content, I suggest treading lightly until you know how you handle the way UU presents it. Prioritize your comfort and mental health!

Speaking of content warnings: early in the story, there are two moments where Andy gropes Fuuko and two instances where she voluntarily presses her chest against someone to fight. After the second major arc, the element is dropped entirely. I understand that this is a deal-breaker for many readers, so I wanted to warn about it ahead of time and make it clear that it is not a continuing theme in Undead Unluck. I found I could handle this content in context and it hasn't impacted my enjoyment of the series as a whole, but everyone has different limits and I want you to be well-informed if you decide to give it a try.

TBB S3 FINALE SPOILERS!!!!

I'm feeling so many emotions right now I can barely comprehend anything.

ECHO SURVIVED!!! YESSSS. And he was an absolute boss. Like always. And such a chaotic mood. And him knowing where Omega is cause she's doing what he would've done. (Not Crosshair asking if the chaos was from Echo or Omega🤣🤣🤣 Everyone knowing how chaotic they truly are.)And then he just formed the most productive tag team with Omega. And he saved the clones, and was saved by one of them in return AND HE SURVIVED TANTIS.

Omega being a big sister to the other kids. And straight up knocking that other doctor out with the droid. She didn't waste a single second. And that last moment between her and Nala Se. So short. So important. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

Rampart can fucking die and I'm glad he did. That man really thought he was gonna be the next boss. Well. Not with Nala Se around.

Emiry going on to work with Echo and deciding to help others after realizing that she worked on the wrong side till now.

They saved all of the children! And their well. And not hurt. And they weren't involved in any fighting. They really got the best possible ending with getting of the planet so soon. So glad they didn't got involved in the fighting to become even more traumatized.

Just. Omegas time skip design. She matured so much. (HUNTERS BANDANA IN HER HAIR) She's grown so much it's unbelievable.

They all choose what they wanted! Echo was able to go back on his journey to save more clones, doing what ever he can. Hunter, Wrecker and Crosshair stayed on Pabu and retired. (Crosshair joined the one hand club with Echo.) And Omega made her own choice, following Echo, joining the rebellion to help the Galaxy.

hi razlo. i don't know where to say this in the post so i'll just say now i unintentionally spoiled myself on razlo's identity because i was googling when i shouldn't have been. all totally my fault LOL [anime girl bleh gif]

the boy didn't even have the decency to wash the blood off his hands. kid, please, you're not doing livio any favors here.

livio manspreading on the couch... chapel, have you considered there's another reason why livio's breathing might be "irregular" as he helps you take his former home hostage? hmmm?

^ FUNNIEST PIECE OF DIALOGUE IN THE WHOLE VOLUME

thank god for livio, this guy was doing a speedrun on being the most annoying one-off minor villain--WAIT is he kicking him with his hands in his pockets? that's SO funny. i'm liking livio more and more.

chapter 2:

"he shouldn't be that old" <- the kids would be expecting wolfwood to be, hmmm, in his early 20s, thereabouts? ww looks around a decade older than that...

he's giving... something here. it's the combo of the glasses and all-white outfit i think. the y2k fashion vibe.

who is saying this? livio? razlo? both? chapel, since he was the one just talking? also, nice visual metaphor!

this is obviously NOT the reason wolfwood spared these guys, but this is reminding me of when oda said that luffy doesn't kill his opponents because shattering their dreams is worse than death. LOL

also i am convinced nightow drew this chapter for the sole purpose of making wolfwood do cool shit on his motorcycle.

that being said, all the cool shit wolfwood does is immediately overshadowed by livio CATCHING A BOMB IN MIDAIR AND THROWING IT BACK AT THE GUY WHO SHOT IT. stampede livio could never do this, he's too skinny

chapter 3:

people have already said stuff about this page, but I Also Want To Say Stuff. the wispiness of the smoke, livio's hair blowing in the wind... it feels very much like the calm before the storm, simultaneously serene and tense. and i LOVE how wolfwood is shaded in grey, while livio is the one shaded in black. fantastic contrast and composition, i adore it.

why is this razlo's first note to livio. "!" like...?! you're letting livio know you exist, but giving literally no other information like at all? okay. razlo's a bit of an oddball, to put it mildly.

the rest of his letters are... well they're not "normal," i guess, and not any less cryptic, but they are kinda sweet in their own way.

knowing who razlo is i love the way his introduction scene is presented. livio is keeping information from ww and from the reader, so it's both literal and not. also razlo is appropriately unsettling, i wish he would stop... unhinging his jaw like that.

...also who tf told him about EoM?! this is a difference with stampede... stamp!livio joined EoM because he wanted to follow wolfwood. no razlo involved in the decision-making, as far as we know. compared to here in the manga, livio left the orphanage on his own, so there isn't really a clear timeline on when ww joined EoM vs when livio did. we don't even know if he knew ww was in EoM at all.

also upon rewatching this scene for this post i got distracted by legato's lack of ass and had to pause because i was laughing too much

the guy is literally flat as a board help

*cough* anyway. razlo is only alluded to and never named or even really shown, except for a very brief very blurry reflection, so his level of involvement in... literally everything is unknown.

speaking of characters who are weirdly absent, chapel isn't around either...? i thought maybe they combined his character with conrad, but he DOES speak in livio's memory, i even checked the credits for his seiyuu. (hiroshi naka - he voices a lot of old men but most notably garp from one piece!) i don't really know how his role in all this has changed, if at all, since conrad seems to be the one in charge of the experiments...? and i really... do not like what they did with conrad in stampede, he went from being shitty but having nuance to just being extra shitty... okay, tangent over.

oh, this fight is so WEIGHTY!! i love it!! they gave a lot of weight and physicality to the livio vs ww fight in stampede too, (and all the fights, for that matter), despite stamp!livio's loss of bulk... it's a really fun fight to watch!

chapter 4:

OHHH..... okay.... soooooo.... this means he's coming back in stampede season 2 i assume?

not to go off on another tangent but this is the second time this has happened to me... i went into stampede more or less blind (oh how things change) and so when knives died at the end of the season I HAD NO REASON TO BELIEVE HE WASN'T DEAD... but then i saw people talking like he would come back in season 2 and i was like, "how?? he DIED" and then i read the manga and i was like oh. and now with livio too. i thought he served his narrative purpose and then died. and he shot himself through the head, which is notable because that's how ww killed monev who was ALSO a subject of EoM's experiments in the tristamp universe!! so i had no reason to believe he wasn't dead!!

i dont have that much to say about this chapter because it mostly consists of the fight, but OH what a fight it is...!! i know i should be rooting for wolfwood, and i am, but livio is just so COOL in this fight. they're both cool...!!!

also, how many little glass vials(tm) does wolfwood have?! honestly, it's amazing that he still has any at all left to drink, it's a wonder they haven't all shattered already with how much he's been thrown around. especially because the one he drinks from CRACKS when it hits the ground... these vials aren't exactly bulletproof, lol.

THE HUG...?! UUUEEEEAAHGHGHHGH

MESSAGE TO ALL BITCHES ughhh ww looks so pained here. when he told vash that his blood runs cold when he points his gun at livio... he's feeling that through this whole volume. man.

chapter 5:

HEY CAN WE KILL CHAPEL ALREADY??

oh, the punisher is taller than him... i was trying to get an approximation of relative character heights recently, and i saw somewhere that the punisher is 5'7, the same height as me...

also, 10 punishers, huh... wolfwood's is one, razlo has three... does chapel's count even though it has a different design...? do livio's handguns count? will we see the others? is there even a significance to the number...?

oh great, is this another wolfwood death flag?! we haven't seen him drink THAT many of them so far but still. hope chapel keels over already. i know ww's making an effort not to kill people but can he please just shoot chapel in the head. also wolfwood's pose in that panel... he's kinda serving cunt

chapter 6:

razlo was a real one for killing livio's shitty parents!

also another thing i'm noticing! razlo opens his mouth pretty wide, while livio doesn't open his mouth much at all... i mean okay there are a ton of differences in physicality between the two of them, but that one in particular stands out to me because last volume i complained that i couldn't tell when livio was talking because he never opens his mouth LOL

spraying wolfwood with blood and guts is a fucking wild battle tactic bro. also i'm convinced that nightow gave razlo three punishers for the cool factor first and foremost. three crosses also brings the scene of jesus's crucifixion to mind... but nahhhh it's definitely the cool factor. unless...?

🛡️ Story:

⚔️ This Jodie Foster is from Well Actually's timeline in which he had defended himself against the other Dads and killed them all. Jodie was the only survivor of the initial fight, and returned two days later only to lose again. ( @book-fight-club-au )

⚔️ He is forced to give up and get the children home--because of the Dads deaths, the anchors are rendered useless. Paeden never becomes Frank, and Nicky never awakens his demon nature. The Omega Dads (minus Bill, who chickened out after finding out about Glenn's death), instead of making the portal a fortress, go after Jodie and the children directly. But Jodie defeats Barry and Willy (only the latter staying dead).

⚔️ After everyone is back on Earth, Jodie essentially abandons Nicky and Morgan on his quest to murder Well Actually. He lives a lonely life in Hell, which was never affected by Christmas and even became a worse place to live! In this AU, Jodie never becomes Scam Likely's boyfriend and Hermie never exists (for obvious reasons).

i dont know if this has been asked but do you know when did Jackie started calling Hyde Steven? Also I noticed she calls him Steven during the prom episode and then reverts back to Hyde, so any headcanon of her switching from Steven to Hyde and vv?

Jackie starts calling Hyde Steven consistently in "Moon Over Point Place" (2x26), after he takes her under his wing in "Cat Fight Club" (2x25) and teaches her how to protect herself by revealing his own self-protection mechanism (and, thus, makes himself vulnerable to her). He also invites her to become part of the circle in that episode. In "Cat Fight Club," Jackie still calls Hyde Hyde.

Jackie clearly begins to idolize Hyde because of his respect and overall treatment of her in "Cat Fight Club". She's eager for his attention in "Moon Over Point Place". Her interest in him isn't romantic (yet). She's hungry for more of the platonic-intimate interactions she had with him in the previous episode. He treats her differently than most guys, most people, she's ever known -- as if her life and (emotional) safety have value.

She seems surprised people (or men) like him exist, people who'd put their own safety aside for someone else, push against long-established friendships to include her in the group, choose protecting a vulnerable acquaintance (her) who disrespected him repeatedly over loyalty to a childhood friend (Kelso) who betrayed her.

So her switch from calling Hyde by his last name to his first is indicative of the closeness and trust she feels for him. One of her lines from the circle scene in "Moon Over Point Place" demonstrates her thoughts and feelings about him: "You know, Steven and I tease each other. That’s what best friends do!"

She thinks of herself and Hyde as best friends. Again, platonic. In school, she's surrounded herself with people who'd betray her in an instant (and probably have). People she's likely betrayed herself. Loyalty, sympathy, and comfort in her social circle are foreign concepts.

Then Hyde puts his physical safety, his future, on the line for her by going to jail in her stead. That act multiplies her gratitude toward and idolization of him a hundred-fold. She confuses those feelings for romantic love (it's a common occurrence in people, kids, teens, and adults) and grows possessive and obsessive over him.

This isn't to say a seed of romantic love for him isn't planted in her during this time, but Hyde is the one who comes away from their S2-S3 arc with genuine and flourishing (yet unrequited) romantic feelings for Jackie.

 I just wanted some mention that Jackie and Hyde are together.

Same. I don’t need to see them on-screen. I want Jackie and Hyde’s prime timeline to be repaired (it was broken by season 8, and That ‘90s Show doesn’t repair it). 

‘Tis not to be on-screen. Fanfic and other fanworks have sustained us since season 8 of T7S, and they’ll clearly have to sustain us ‘til the end of time. 😂

i just saw a spoiler for T9S of MK's scene and it's her getting remarried to Kelso 🤢 and getting slutshamed by Kitty? You can still see how badly the authors hate Jackie if they're not only keeping her in an unhappy marriage but letting her short screen time be one where she gets slut shamed by Kitty. How is this still the show's humour?

Jackie's a vessel for the writers' misogyny and misogynistic humor, clearly, not the nuanced character she's depicted as during S1-S7 of T7S. 🤦 🤷

My #1 post of 2022

Seems like everyone outside of Tumblr is excited about That 90s Show but everyone on Tumblr hates even the idea of it. Why is that?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I think others might feel similarly. Season 8 of That '70s Show caused a lot of pain for those of us who care about fidelity to the show's characters and their previous seven years of development. Season 8's depiction of the characters veered so far from S1-S7's depiction as to make the characters unrecognizable. The disrespect of Jackie from beginning to end is particularly egregious.

Similarly, the premise of That '90s Show makes little to no in-character sense. Eric and Donna having a child that old in the mid-nineties breaks the fictional dream. Jackie and Kelso being married, divorced, and getting remarried makes no sense either, considering who those characters are and their growth arcs during season 1-7 of That '70s Show (minus the cliffhanger that was hastily written to accommodate the newly greenlit season 8. In the originally-written series finale, Hyde supposedly goes to the motel and proposes to Jackie).

That '90s Show is clearly -- in the words David Trainer (T7S's series director) used to describe season 8 of T7S -- an alternate universe, one of many possible futures for the characters. It's not the canon future, which would've seen Jackie and Hyde married, Eric and Donna having a much younger child, and Kelso raising teenage Betsy (and six other daughters, lol) with Brooke.

In social media spaces outside of Tumblr, the That '70s Show message board at fanforum.com, Fanfiction.net, AO3, and parts of twitter, fans appear to have a more casual attitude toward That '70s Show and TV shows in general. Fidelity to characters and their storylines isn't as important as the laugh and seeing beloved characters onscreen again, despite that those characters don't internally resemble those they actually enjoyed watching on T7S. The characters have the same names and faces, are interacting on the same set, and those external factors are enough for a lot of people.

Red and Kitty might be the only canon (or canon-adjacent) part of T9S. But with the rest of the characters' lives being so off-model (a term used in animation to describe when a character isn't drawn properly [e.g., Bart Simpson's hair having twelve spikes instead of the standard nine]), I can't view this show as anything but an AU fanfiction onscreen.

T7S was an important show to me when it originally aired. Season 8 was horrible to experience. I lurked on fanforum.com's T7S spoiler board to learn if Jackie and Hyde would eventually reconcile. I learned there about the letter-writing campaign asking the producers to put Jackie and Hyde back together by the end of the series. Hundreds of letters were put into a packet a fan brought to a S8 taping. She was told by a producer that Jackie and Hyde were definitively over.

Unlike The Office, whose actors and writers paid great attention to its online fanbase and altered course when the show’s most ardent supporters said, “This storyline is on the verge of destroying X,” T7S’s writers and producers never tuned into what the show’s most ardent fans actually cared about and came back week-after-week to watch. They went by the typical TV series playbook: celebrity guest stars, setup-punchline.

With Eric’s absence, season 8 should have focused on Jackie and Hyde’s relationship, the show’s biggest draw after Eric. The online fandom during the show’s original airing was massively focused on J/H. People who went to the S8 tapings were, too. They booed whenever Samantha’s character came onstage, and they were told to stop on threat of being kicked out.

Once I learned that J/H weren’t going to reconcile, that's when I quit watching T7S. I watched the series finale because I'd learned from the spoilers board that Eric and Donna would reunite. That was some consolation. Then I didn't watch the show for three years because of the S8 showrunners' utter disrespect, misunderstanding, and mishandling of characters. For me, T7S show ends when Hyde says, "No, I've decided [to marry Jackie]," to Eric. This is the last vestige of the show's original ending.

T7S and T9S's higher-ups (save Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith) don’t care about fidelity to character. They care about money and the number of viewers (which equals money). This became clear toward the end of S5 of T7S, but it wasn't all-or-nothing (until S8). With T9S, it is. Jackie and Kelso’s romantic pairing is the epitome of this. It makes no character sense, but it makes financial sense because their portrayers got married. Buzz! Media hype! But actors ≠ the roles they play.

I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy That ‘90s Show. Red/Kitty fans and Eric/Donna fans will get to see their favorite couples together again and know that they are still together fifteen years after the time of T7S. Many of us on tumblr (and elsewhere), though, are yet again being deprived of Jackie and Hyde’s happy future. Season 8 destroyed it once. That ‘90s Show had the opportunity to repair the damage (to both the fans and the characters). Hyde never had to be seen. Jackie and other characters could’ve simply talked about him.

Unfortunately, putting Jackie and Hyde together again probably would’ve brought negative media attention because of real-life circumstances. Putting Jackie and Kelso together brings mostly positive media attention, makes casual fans happy / gives them a laugh, and hurts “only” a contingent of the show’s most passionate fans.

It’s a smart, real-world move based on real-world considerations. It’s also one that does not depict the actual future of canon!Jackie and canon!Hyde. Season 8 of T7S didn’t depict that, either. And so their real (fictional) future is, as ever, left up to their fans to write.

If Jackie and Hyde had been put back together in T9S, however, and written to have -- say -- a fourteen-year-old kid, I’d probably give the show a chance. Even though J/H having a kid that old in the mid-nineties is totally OOC and ridiculous, as least my OTP of OTPs would be together onscreen (in some fashion) and “official” (even if the details of it aren’t quite canon).

I think the above is one reason why many people are excited about T9S and can ignore its 99.99% OOC foundation (i.e. Eric and Donna having a fifteen-year-old kid in 1995): their favorite couples are together and will be seen onscreen again (Kitty/Red, Eric/Donna, Jackie/Kelso). Another reason is a lot of people simply don’t care about character/story consistency or in-universe cohesion.

Outcast (Gareth Emerson x Henderson! Reader)

Request; I have a request for a side character(?) Gareth from Stranger Things (The curly haired kid that’s in the hellfire club), with the reader being Dustin’s sister, and I’m probably wrong but can we make the rest of the group besides Dustin and mike seniors, including reader, and Jason shows up at the garage while the group, minus Dustin and mike and Eddie obviously, are practicing the band??

Summary; Things go south when two opposite groups meet up, especially when one is looking for your brother. Reader doesn’t want to worry Gareth about her constant disappearances, but knows Gareth deserves to learn the truth revolving Vecna and Eddie’s supposed murders. Dustin and the reader have to watch Eddie die, while also experiencing a terrible earthquake that helps them hide the real reason behind Eddie’s death.

Warnings; Jason and Reader fight, cussing, BIG SPOILER FOR V2, Eddie dying, Reader tells the Hellfire club about Eddie’s death, Gareths really the only one who knows about the upside down.

A/N; I realized there’s not really enough Gareth moments in the show to be able to really get to know him. This was a cute request I did and I was glad to include the side characters. Hope you enjoy.

“Jason?”

You look over your shoulder at the sudden call of a name. Sure as hell, Jason Carver, along with three other members, including Lucas Sinclair, stand at the doors of the garage you and your group were practicing in.

“You’re early,” You heave, turning away from your band mates to face Jason’s figure, “Show’s not until next week,”

“Oh that was music you were playing?” One of Jasons friends shoots, your smile tight as your eyes flick back to Jason,

“What are you doing here, Jason?” You look back down where you were separating music note sheets, knowing Jeff would complain about the untidiness,

“Looking for your brother,” Jason speaks up so you glance at him, eyes narrowed towards him, “Where is he, Henderson?”

“I really don’t think that’s any of your business. Now leave,”

Your eyes flick to Lucas, who watched the interaction, your head tilting in a “I knew it” motion.

“But I think it is,” Jason’s step forward leads to a flurry of motions, you dropping the sheets to follow his steps so you were nearly chest-to-chest with the man, Gareth close behind you if Jason was to do anything,

“Hit me, Jason. I fucking dare you,” Your eyes squint, again, eyes flicking between the blondes, “I don’t know where Dustin is. So fuck off, and get off this property,”

“Y/N,” Gareths warning behind you alerts the amount of threats you have thrown at the bully, Jason chuckling as he peers over your shoulder, to the curly haired male and your two other friends behind you,

“Yeah, Y/N,” Jason murmurs, tilting his jaw down, “I’d listen to your freak boyfriend if I were you,”

With that, your hands find Jason’s shirt with a rough shove, sending him stumbling back into his friend group, before he immediately lunges back towards you, shoving you just as hard, if not harder, so Gareth and Jeff could both catch an arm, tightening their grips when you begin to pull in an attempt to escape,

“Didnt think you were one to need body guards, Henderson,” Jason wipes down the front of his shirt, eyes narrowed, “As if I need you to tell me where your brother is. I’ll find him. Trust me,”

Somehow, you manage to slip your body free from Gareth and Jeff’s grasps, shoving Jason hard enough to where he toppled onto his back, your figure hovering over him, only getting a single punch in before Gareth is grabbing at your waist, heaving you off the man’s body.

“Touch my brother and me and you will have a bigger fucking issue, Carver,” You hiss, eyes shooting to Lucas, “All of you,” Another push away from Gareth, but he manages to catch you,

“Okay, okay! Enough,” Gareth demands, Jeff moving in front of you with one of Gareths drumsticks in hand, attempting to look intimidating.

Jason leaves with a heaved scoff after his team helps him off the ground, hand rubbing his face, and after a moments pause, Gareth releases you, your body spinning to dig through your bag,

“Y/N, what the hell was that?” Jeff asks, Gareth crossing his arms as you pull out your walkie, something Gareth knew was an easy way for you and Dustin to communicate, “You punched Jason Carver, he’ll send his whole team out before we know it!”

Ignoring your friend, you pull the antenna to your walkie, pressing a button on the side, “Dustin, you copy?”

A slight pause, “Y/N! Holy shit, you won’t believe what’s been going on,”

“Dustin, are you home?” You ignore, your friends behind you slowly moving back to their previous tasks,

“No, we’ve been at the Wheelers, why?”

“Good, Jason’s gone fucking nuts looking for Eddie and now he’s going after you,” You lift your bag, rubbing your temple at the growing headache you received.

“What did he do?” Steve cuts, Jeff mumbling behind you “Is that Steve Harrington?”

“Just his usual threats,” You mutter, slinging your bag over your shoulder as you rub your temple at the dull headache behind your eyes, “I’m on my way,”

“What about practice?” Jeff asks, hands out as Gareth watches your movements, brows furrowed,

“I need to make sure Jason doesn’t go after Dustin. I separated the sheets for you,” You pause to let him breathe out, thankful, “Just-,” You stop to hand Gareth your walkie, confusion on his face, “Let me know if he comes back. Channel three,”

“Just be careful, okay?” Gareth pleas, breathless, your shoulder curling as you give him a small smile,

“Always. You know me and Dustin get into crazy shit a lot. This is nothing,”

. . .

“So do you guys have an actual plan or you just deciding to chit chat?”

The group of seven spin around at your voice. The leaves crunch beneath your feet, eyes squinting at the large party before stopping next to Dustin,

“How the hell did you find us all the way out here, Henderson?” Steve questions, your hand raising up then dropping with a scoff-like laugh,

“You’re not very quiet. I can hear you guys over a mile away,” You turn to Dustin, pulling his own bag from off his shoulder so he blinked in confusion,

“Dude, what are you looking for?”

“Your walkie,”

“What? Why mine?” Dustin complains, “Where’s yours?”

“Gareths got it,” You lift the walkie from the bag, looking up at Dustin’s pause,

“And why does Gareth have your walkie?” There’s a threatening tone to his voice, obviously bothered by the fact that your boyfriend and his group member now holds your walkie.

“Jason’s looking for you!” You gesture to Dustin himself, then to Eddie, “You, too. Gareths just keeping an eye out, calm down,”

“If he breaks it he buys it,” Dustin rolls his eyes, watching you pull the antenna up,

“Hey, Gareth?” You release the button to listen, the walkie beginning to static before it stops,

“Yup, I’m here,” Gareth responds, your eyebrows raised up towards Dustin, “Still no signs from Jason,”

“Good, try to keep it like that. We won’t be going home in case he does find out. Lucas is with them so if he decides to be a dick,” You roll your eyes with your pause, “There’s always a chance they’ll figure out. I’ll check back in later,”

“Be safe,”

“So does this Gareth dude know about the whole upside down shit?” Steve questions, your shoulders lifting with your sigh,

“Kinda, yeah. Just the basics. Eleven, Wills reason for disappearing, oh he also knows Star Court didn’t actually catch fire,”

“So we’re just telling random people about aliens and Russians now?” Nancy squints her eyes, you copying her action,

“Gareth isn’t a random person. He’s been involved for like, two years. This isn’t the point of the topic,” You wave your hands around, dropping the walkie back into Dustin’s bag, “So what’s the plan?”

. . .

That night at the Wheelers house, you find yourself sitting on the hood of Steves car in the driveway, Gareth next to you with his arms propped on his knees, chin against his hand,

“So how long are you guys staying here?” Gareths eyes flick to Mikes house behind you, indicating he meant the Wheelers house specifically.

“Just until Jason gives up on looking for Dustin,” You copy his motion, propping both hands beneath your jaw, “But it’s not just us. The whole group minus Mike and Lucas are here. Mainly to keep an eye out on Max. But that’s a long story,”

“I’ve got time,” Gareth shrugs, shifting his gaze back to you, watching your small smile falter, glancing up at the dark sky.

“Eddie didn’t kill Chrissy, Gareth,” You sigh, shifting your hand to rub your temple. You really wish you took some painkillers during dinner.

“Innocent until proven guilty, in my opinion,” Gareth shrugs, eyes flicking across your face, curiously, “But if he didn’t, who did?”

You pause, “Do you remember the whole Upside Down thing I told you about? With the gate that we closed?”

Gareth hums. “It opened again. There’s a new bad guy. I get this is going to sound fucking insane but, the bad guy is Vecna,”

Gareth doesn’t say anything. When he does, “Vecna as in Dungeons and Dragons?”

It’s your turn to hum, then you rub your forehead a second time and rest your head against said hand, “It sounds so stupid. I probably sound insane,”

“Unless you and Dustin really planned out this prank to stick to the same storyline, I believe you,” Gareth leans to the side to nudge his shoulder to yours, your giggle quiet as you nudge him back.

“Trust me, Dustin can’t lie for shit,” You mutter, glancing over your shoulder when you hear a footstep, Steve’s figure making his way towards you and the other teenager beside you,

“What have I told you guys about sitting on my car?” Steve heaves, your grimace light as you shrug a shoulder, Gareth squinting at Steve to see his face in the dark, “C’mon. Ill drive you home, Gareth. I don’t want Y/N out here so late,”

“What are you, her babysitter?” Gareth questions, your head tilting with a shrug as Steve rolls his eyes,

“At this point, kinda,” You smile, softly, leaning to the side again to nudge him a second time, “I’ll be fine. We’ll do our daily walkie check in like usual,”

You slide off the hood, waiting for Gareth to do the same, “But in Dustin’s words, you break it you buy it,”

“Noted,” Gareth clicks his teeth, as Steve rounds to the drivers seat, “Just- be careful, okay? I don’t understand half this shit, but, sounds dangerous,”

“This is my fourth year dealing with these things,” You laugh, “I’ll be okay,” You lean into the passenger window of Steve’s car, “Get him home in one piece, yeah?”

“Yeah, yeah, get in, dude, or you can walk,” Steve grumbles, Gareth barely pecking your cheek before he climbs in, you turning on your heel to prepare another night in the basement.

. . .

“Eddie! What the fuck are you doing?!”

You and Dustin crane your necks to look up into the doorway to the Upside Down, Eddie mirroring you from the opposite side.

“Buying us time,” Eddie leaves the trailer, your head shaking in a panic along with your hands, looking around in alarm,

“Holy shit- okay,” You drag a chair to level with the open portal, stepping up to grab the edges of the doorway, heaving yourself back into the unknown location of the upside down,

“Eddie!” Dustin follows suit- most likely breaking his ankle in the process- and the next few seconds are a blur of bats, blood, and screaming. So much screaming.

You and Dustin sit at Eddie’s sides. Blood covers his face, while tears cover yours, and your chest hurts from the ongoing panic attack that seemed to take over your senses,

“I didn’t run away this time,” Eddie gasps, Dustin’s head shaking as your hands pull off your sweater cover over, pressing it to the wound on Eddie’s side so that the older teenager hissed, “It’s my year. I was going to graduate,”

“And you will!” Your wheeze startles Dustin to look up, and your hands shake so violently you can’t seem to keep the pressure on Eddie’s wound, “You’re going to graduate, just stay awake for us, Eddie,”

Silence. You and Dustin immediately look back down to the man, both seeming to exhale harshly at the realization- Eddie was gone.

“Oh my God,” You gasp, immediately coughing on the sob lodged in your throat. Raising your hands to your face, you sniffle, so hard your shoulders shake, before you flinch at a rumble, looking up at Dustin, “We gotta get out of here,”

“I’m not leaving him,” Your younger brother forces, face red from tears and lip trembling, “We can get him to a hospital!”

“He’s dead, Dustin,” You hiccup, standing on trembling legs before stepping over Eddie, grasping at Dustin’s arm as another shake took over the underworld, “We have to go!”

Getting back through the portal seemed easier than the first time, you and Dustin both managing to land without injuring yourselves again, but as soon as you regain composure, a crack forms on the ground, startling you both to look at each other.

The ground then snaps open, your arms sticking out to shove Dustin into the closest wall, your own feet stumbling backwards so you press your back to the opposite wall, eyes wide in alarm at the red glow that came from the crack, “What the hell?”

. . .

It’s another day before you see the group. You stand in the gym of Hawkins High, barely listening to Steve and Robin talking to one of the volunteers, before you finally spot Jeff, who immediately grabbed at Gareths shoulder to direct his attention to you.

All emotions from yesterday seem to build back up as you move towards them. Trying not to stumble on people sitting or lying on the ground, Gareth too begins to navigate through citizens, meeting you halfway to wrap his arms around your middle, while your own threw themselves at his shoulders, hiding your face in your sleeve to muffle the sudden sob you release.

You notice Jeff’s worried confusion, Kevin beside him sharing a look with him as they watch Gareth lean back, one hand at your arm while the other held in the air, unsure as you wipe your face,

“Eddie’s gone,” Your breath is short, hand dropping to grasp at his flannel, as his face dropped in realization, “The earthquake- Dustin and I were there,”

His eyes soften, knowing the earthquake wasn’t really the reason, glancing back at your two other band members before facing you, “Let’s get you some water, yeah?”

Taking your hand, Gareth leads you back through the crowds, your free hand wiping your nose with a heave of a breath, sinking down onto the bleachers as Gareth grabbed two cups, handing one to you before sitting next to you, your knees turning to bump his,

“It wasn’t the earthquake,” You murmur, Gareth nodding as your eyes flick to the side, spotting Dustin talking to Mr. Munson, “He died a hero for a town that called him a killer, Gareth. He didn’t do any of it,”

“Hey, drink some water,” Gareth murmurs, hand at your knee when it begins to bounce, taking your own hand that sat on your leg with a comforting squeeze, “Take a sec and calm down,”

Your nod is weak, nose stuffy and eyes puffy as you glance up, Steve moving to sit next to you with a heaved breath, “You two okay?”

Gareths hand now rests at your back when you curl into his side, Gareth sighing himself as he glances around the crowded gym, “How’s Max?” He avoids, barely glancing at you and to Steve,

“They don’t have an estimation of when she’ll wake up,” Steve shakes his head, his own eyes shifting to you. Your eyes have closed out of exhaustion, and Steve wonders if you’ll even be able to sleep tonight with last nights incident, “Keep an eye on her, okay?”

Gareths eyebrows furrow at the sudden topic change, the slack of your figure indicating you have nearly dozed off. Gareth nods, looking over to meet Steves eyes, “Yeah. Same to you for Dustin,”

Steves eyes leave Gareth to find the younger Henderson sibling, heaving himself to his feet with a quiet goodbye. Gareths eyes finally shift to you, lips at your temple silently as he takes the cup you held, setting it on the bleachers at his other side before silently watching the people around him, wondering just how Hawkins would heal from all this.

i made some tags but i want to talk more about some "red flag" books. sorry for any typos or if my english is incorrect at any point, it's not my first language.

i added the following tags:

let's start by saying i happen to LOVE haruki murakami and i think his philosophical takes on his books are marvelous. like i said in the tags, you HAVE to be older to understand some things that are not explicit when you're younger or on a first read-through (for example, fight club doesnt pack the same punch [haha punch] when you read it a second time, then you see the signals pointing to the end were there all along but you didn't pick up the information). that's what i mean by saying picking up undertones when you're older, you have more information to contextualize (or re-contextualize) a book.

like, imagine you're 14 and you read american psycho. you probably don't even know what a yuppie is. and by missing that you're missing why bateman acts the way he does. and it does the same thing fight club does, which is to present us with unreliable narrators. but again you may not pick that up until you're older and can understand the themes of toxic masculinity (fight club) or the objectification of women, critic to the capitalism model and mental health issues (american psycho).

i love sylvia plath but admittedly, you do have to be a certain age to read the bell jar because of its themes of mental health, depression and suicide, but those are not red flags, those are triggers. why are these people keeping away a beautifully written story about mental health issues saying it's a red flag to read this book? this makes no sense to me. and tbh i HAVE to laugh at the sticker on gone girl. "if shes reading this she probably watched jennifer's body at least once". this cracked me up. i am aware of its flaws but i love jennifer's body (and it's a fuck you to men everywhere despite the ending), and that comment is so correct. gone girl also says fuck you to men, and it should not be considered a red flag. like... grow up maybe.

now, about the thing that will probably haunt my dreams this night. HOW IS FRANKENSTEIN ON A RED FLAG SHELF?! sure it's philosophical af but i read it at a young age and as i grew up i reread it a lot (i do have this problem, instead of buying new books, i reread mine because having dynamic reading means i end them REALLY fast and i end up with the same books to read lol), understanding more and more with more age. HOW in the world is this book a red flag? i honestly can't see it. yeah it is horror and a bit sci-fi but i was reading stephen king by age 9 and i turned out (mostly) fine. this one pisses me off to no end.

Utahime slowly lifted her arm, already planning on throwing the thing back in Gojo’s annoying face. Gojo gets Utahime a very special kind of souvenir. Set during the start of the Goodwill arc.

I have nothing more to offer other than ff and so have some of something I started that takes place during endwalker. So spoiler-ish warning for that, just in case.

“Can you hear anything?”

Y’shtola begins to shake her head, when sudden movement has her readying for a fight as their weapon makes contact with Thancred’s shoulder just missing his head. The person pants, running back at him with a scream, the warning giving him enough time to grab onto the bed post made club. The woman’s sky blue eyes go wide as she tries to wrestle the weapon free from Thancred’s grip. Y’shtola holsters her staff, smiling and chuckling as she takes in the scene of the woman dressed in a dirtied turquoise blue silk corset dress manages to gain her club back swinging a few more times at Thancred as he tries to calm the woman down.

“Y’shtola, a little help would be nice. Lady Akagane please-.”

She’s midway through another swing when the words sink in, “Mr. Waters?” She pants out, “Mr. Waters, is it really you?” He nods, Siberite’s mother dropping the bedpost, pushing her lavender hair from her eyes to confirm, before wrapping her arms around him. “Oh thank the Sisters its you!”

He stiffens, arms raised, Y’shtola smirking, “I thought you said she hated you.”

“She….did?”

Lady Akagane’s eyes open, looking up before pushing him away with narrowed eyes and a small growl, “I still do.” She lets out a slow breath, crossing her arms, “Your presence here means there’s a high possibility that my Siberite is here.” The older woman frowns looking at Y’shtola, “She is here isn’t she? You two aren’t here because-.”

“She’s perfectly safe, Lady Akagane,” she assures, “And might I say what a pleasure it is to meet you.”

“Don’t lie to me. I know Siberite doesn’t talk about me or her father to anyone unless pressed.”

“Lady Akagane if I may-,” Y’shtola says, Siberite’s mother holding a hand up.

“I will be taken to my daughter and Mr. Waters will see to that. I do not care that she is busy, just that I see her.”

“I was merely going to ask what you plan to do after you see her.”

Lady Akagane waves away the question, making her way over the pile of front door, “Come. Let us be on our way.”

Thancred and Y’shtola look at each other with a shrug, “Well I guess Siberite takes after her father.”

“Honestly its hard to believe she’s related to either of them, but you were able to see better, you’d find they almost look like twins.”

“Mr. Waters!” Lady Akagane shouts, prompting the two to leave the house, Thancred grumbling.

G’raha frowns, looking beside him once more to find his friend slowing down once more as they approach the designated meeting spot. He spots a bench next to the grove, leading Siberite towards it, “Here let’s sit down while we wait for the others, shall we?” Siberite simply nods, following silently. G’raha sighs, “I know you said you were fine earlier, but I don’t believe seeing your home like this is easy.”

“Believe or know?”

“Pardon?”

She looks up at the blood red skies, “That future we prevented, you said you woke up in the height of the calamity. When you say you believe, do you really mean to say that you know it not to be easy?”

He hums, holding his chin, “Much had already changed by then. While there were remnants of a place I once knew it was still foriegn to me.” She nods slowly, “Thavnair is far from foriegn for you though.”

“I guess. Felt that way.”

“How long had it been since you were last here prior to your excursion with the others?”

She inhales deeply, “Technically three years, but add in the time on the First and it’s closer to four maybe four and a half years.”

“So the only thing that really changed was you.”

She stays silent, watching as the potted plants still intact blow in the breeze, heart sinking, “I’m afraid, Raha.” His ears perk up, looking at her with a tilt of his head, “I’ve never felt so much panic before. In all of the battles faced, I never felt like I did when we first got news of Thavnair falling.”
