the saturation and brightness and lushness of seasons 13-15 makes me absolutely crazyyy imagine you have just lost your mother and the love of your life in the same night and you are mourning and the whole world is alive and beautiful and blue sky. and then there are horrors and apocalypses and so many more deaths and you are just god's pet running in a hamster wheel but all the while the world around you is in one constant spring. one endless becoming, while you are stuck running from one season finale to the next never progressing but you're half thinking well at least if i die doing this it will be in a blaze of light and glory. beautiful as this world i am always grieving in. and you get free and you live in the light like a mayfly and then. you die in an old barn in complete darkness

This scene from s2 is so so underrated and so so IMPORTANT to me. Like, we see Jo, who wants to hunt to be close to her father, grew up adjacent to the life, but has other options and a way out. She has zero experience and goes into a hunt with all this theoretical knowledge, feeling confident in her research and her knowledge of how to hunt spirits.

And in this scene, reality really sets in for her and we get to see it. The hunting life she imagined, not perfect but romanticized in its violence and dusty backroads and gross motels, is destroyed and replaced by the grim truth that it is grotesque and horrifying and deadly in a very real way.

She ends up still wanting to hunt afterwards, but it changes her. She finally sees that hunting is an awful, terrifying, excruciatingly painful way to live. I feel like we really lose this throughout the show. By like s12 hunting is sort of portrayed as this cool club that Claire and Alex and Patience and Jody and Donna choose to join as a family and it just feels...wrong. It feels like the writers completely missed the part where hunting is something you're either born into or forced into, and not something you choose to do if you have literally any other choice.

people being anti-someone else’s ship is kind of wild to me lmao. like what do you mean you’re against something that makes other people happy? what do you mean this thing that brings someone joy, isn’t hurting anyone, and doesn’t affect you bothers you to the point that you feel the need to actively put them down and belittle them because of it? what do you mean something you could easily ignore or filter out has become something you want to loudly spew hate about to make yourself feel better? what do you want, for someone to say you’re right? because yes, i’m sure there are people who agree with you, but there’s also a much better way for you to voice that opinion! it’s almost like you can talk about why you don’t like something without putting down the people who do. alternatively, you could not interact with that content if it makes you feel so negatively. you’re not going to make people who like it switch over to your “side”; at best they’re going to ignore you and at worst you’re going to make them feel bad about themselves for something that makes them happy. i simply will never understand.

thinking about angel banishing sigil tattoos on Sam & Dean, but in order to make them effective, they have to be tattooed with their own blood. Which apparently leads to the body reabsorbing the tattoo after a few weeks, so they’d have to do it constantly to stay safe. idk but i just get unbearably bummed about spn fandom sometimes bc of all the divisions and bad blood. like i created this separate blog to firewall dark fic and "problematic" stuff from my main bc it's so contentious and i have seen some wild puritanical bullshit go down on the destiel side of the fandom.

and i will admit that my first interaction with the samdean/wincest part of the fandom was a huge turnoff and i avoided it for a while as a result of a couple of REALLY bad first interactions before circling back to it. but then it's also like. my main blog is... i guess it's primarily destiel but tbh it's gotten to be more "holy shit i love the writers, have you thought about the writers today? [marge potato gif] i just think they're neat."

but the thing is, i actually really dislike a huge swath of the destiel fandom and disagree with how they approach canon and/or writing the characters in fic! namely that it completely ignores that whether you slice it as a platonic sibling or romantic/sexual bond, samdean is an undeniable part of the narrative. it's like. it just cannot be removed. both of these relationships and their narrative dynamics are load-bearing and i hate how knee-jerk ppl get about having to pick one or the other.

it just feels very lonely out here with how polarized the fandom is.
