Spiderverse fans are really starting to be annoying...

Imagine seeing a cute ship edit of Mile Morales x Marinette Dupain-Cheng, yet you wanna mock and make mean comments because of course "ML bad amirite?" and try to say that Marinette is racist because of a non-canon comic that isn't even made by Thomas and ignoring the fact Marinette canonically has two black friends.

And then they wonder why I'm not watching the movie and why their fanbase is called toxic.

I think that ship is really ruining things for both characters and rotting the brains, because I keep seeing people invent a 42 varint of gwen solely for the purpose of shipping her with the other Miles...like that literally all she seems good for to them huh...to be shipped with him. A character being reduced to a love interest for a man. Literally the issue people had with her character in the first place. Not to mention, 42 variant Miles entire story and background, which I feel will tie strongly into his culture/community which will be highly afro centric...is being ignored and made all about a white girl. Do they not see the issues and weird implications?

Given I honestly don't think that's the way they'll handle his story...it's still annoying to see people push for it because like...is that all you got from the story? Are y'all even paying attention to what the movies are doing and trying to tell you? (Given there's still issues there, but the overall theme/message is clear)

agreed. i'm staying the hell out of main spiderverse fandom discussion bc there are too many terminally online kids using purity politics as an excuse to control fanspaces, but the way the fandom treats gwen these days makes my blood boil. she's either hated for having flaws and trying to be her own person, or put on a pedestal as the Perfect Girlfriend Whose Entire Existence Revolves Around Miles.

even in older spider-gwen fandom spaces, now you can't have a single conversation about her without a flood of new people bursting in and insisting that we make it All About Gwiles. like... i hate gatekeeping! i'm happy more people care about gwen now! but ffs do you care about gwen, or do you care about gwiles?

(it's the latter. they care about gwiles. they don't see gwen as a person, they see her as a person's girlfriend with no purpose when her boyfriend isn't in her presence or on her mind. and/or as a vessel to project themselves into a relationship with miles.)

as for why... most of the people in this fandom haven't read the comics at all or the most they've seen is three pages from sitting in a tree out of context, or they've read the inaccurate fan-operated wikis. all they're going off of is the movies, where gwen being The Girlfriend is framed as a positive, subversive thing. so to them, gwen getting to have powers, date spider-man and live feels progressive in comparison to tasm gwen, because they have no clue what her narrative actually is. and as far as they know, gwen and miles are a perfect couple who have no better romantic interests.

(again i don't like gatekeeping! if you move into a new neighborhood, you shouldn't have to make your house look like your neighbors', but if none of them have a basement, you should probably talk to them to figure out if digging one's gonna make your damn house collapse i before you start ripping up the foundation.)

i also blame fandom being fandom. no matter how subversive the source material they are fans of, even if the fandom's not dominated by white guys, fandom will always reflect the same bullshit from greater society. same racism, same sexism, same homophobia, just often under a layer of progressive paint. same disregard of female characters unless they support a more popular male character. same surface-level championing of diversity and inclusion... while characters of color are both ignored / stereotyped / tokenized and fetishized / sanded down to be more palatable to a presumably-white audience (the same applies for queer characters). like, the same shit's happening in the spiderverse fandom.

as for gwen 42... yeah i'm not loving how the fandom took the possibility of her existing and immediately made her into a darker edgier girlfriend for miles. really? that's the most you can imagine?

(... esp considering if earth-42 is similar to earth-1610 in that there was a peter parker spider-man before miles, odds are gwen-42 is 30something and long dead. and even if she isn't, why does she have to be attached to miles in any way?)

7) what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

You didn’t say a specific fandom for this and truthfully I usually don’t hate a character solely because of a fan or fandoms interpretation of it- if I don’t like something I just block/mute and move on. That being said if I had to really think hard on it I really get uncomfortable by the way certain fans write or draw Miguel O’ Hara (Spiderverse: Across The spiderverse). It usually veers into over sexualizing and blatant stereotypes and racism which haha as a black person not fun to see! That and the whitewashing/colorism ( which is not limited to this fandom and rather a larger issue in any fandom community but that’s a separate can of worms) That makes me super uncomfortable! Lol!

Like I think Miquel is a interesting antagonist / character to analyze. Even if I don’t necessarily like him as a person or agree with his values I can appreciate the work went into designing or writing the character. So it’s a shame my brain instinctively thinks about the gross one dimensional misinterpretations of his character I see online (Twitter, tumblr, tiktok and insta) that either completely erases the fact that he did Bad Things to people (UwU he did nothing wrong ever1!1”) or makes him into A Big Bad Scary 1000% Evil Brown Man Whose Super Sexy ™️

Fuck I just…I really hoped a site that loves diverse media and media criticism would be more normal about Across the Spiderverse. I’m not that familiar with 2D animation so I was hoping to see people break down art styles and metaphors and stuff like that, but when I searched the spiderverse tag it’s just post after post of people trying to figure out how old Hobie is so they can “ethically” ship him with whomever or accusing people of crimes against…cartoon characters. God, who gives a shit? Ship him with Gwen, ship him with Miguel, ship him with Miles. Ship him with the fucking pig if you want! He’s pixels! He doesn’t have boundaries that can be violated! i want to make a lot of bots with the actual gods and goddesses themselves. {{user}} meeting her godly parent, being a hunter of artemis, things of that sort. but also like being mars' badass former orphan sidekick who's also close friends w his babymama (venus,) the lore runs deep.

i also want to send the characters on more quests, quests galore.

my problem, however, is how specific {{user}} gets. powers, special items, history, godly parent. like, there's no way i can incorporate all that even w the new character cap, it's still too much.

it's also a LOT of work. coding pjo bots, by far, has been the most taxing fandom aside from avatar. there's so much potential here, but i feel like i can't do it much justice, yk? i don't have the time or capacity currently and i'm kinda bummed out by that.

i want to do more w new rome, spqr. problem is, no one's from there. we know very little about how it works, over all, i need to conjure up most of the stuff in my brain. i have no problem w it, i just don't have enough time.

i'm working on an old idea, taking up a lot of my time, but it'll be an event. currently going to be exclusive to percy jackson, harry potter, and across the spiderverse or call of duty (yet to decide.)

B D Z for the ask game!!!

B - A pairing I didn't initially consider but someone changed my mind would definitely be Kamasaki/Moniwa. One of my friends really liked it and it eventually leaked over to me lol. It's fun.

D - A pairing I wish i liked but just cant? I honestly can't think of any? If I wanted to like a pairing I'd just figure out how to like it.

Z - This is just automatically what comes to mind when someone asks about fandom stuff: Different fandoms and how the canon results in different quantities of specific tropes and stuff. So Naruto and Miraculous share a perpensity for salt/bashing fics due to the....hatability of the canon portrayals of many characters. Mha also has a little bit of that just due to the lack of facing some things that happen but never have consequences. (Eg, bakugo being muzzled and restrained at the sports festival, all might, etc)

On the other end we have Spiderverse which is........full of nsfw as one might expect from a work thats full of attractive characters. Don’t go in anything relating to Miguel O'hara without filtering if you want to live.

But it also works at a broader level with story tropes and things that really only show up this often in Fandom. So like Naruto has a lot of one-way timetravel fics. There's so many ways to end the world, and so many ways to go back and change it and just skew the plot wildly that they're so common, and also just so much fun. Plus Naruto is kind of split into eras in canon, and there's so much for each era, so writers tend to specialize in certain eras or characters. So an author might specialize in Founders era stuff, or stuff when Kakashi was a kid, or any number of other things. I specialize mostly from the Uchiha massacre to the chuunin exams, plus Tenten is my absolute dear beloved and so is Shisui, assuming I can keep him alive. Which I do whenever possible.

Mha has a few one-way time travel fics, but they're much rarer. Miraculous I don't think has any. That's a phenomenon just in Naruto.

Mha is very prone to toss a rock in the middle of a stream and see where the water goes type of fics. Just changing one or two details(like who has what quirk, if someone's parents died, etc) and then seeing where it goes from there. They're fascinating because it's not really angry fix-its like you see in Naruto a lot, it's more respectful to canon, and is more of a game of yes and. The variation in what you can do with MHA is fascinating.

Haikyuu, on the direct other hand, is full of AU's. It has so many characters and all of them are so good, but, well, it's a volleyball anime, there isn't exactly much world to explore. So, AU's. Plus how you often get people who specialize in specific characters or teams, or have just the one blorbo who's a rare character and just lives in their head permanently(me with Nametsu Mai my dearly beloved). Sometimes you get aus where the teams are still holding up, all groups together, and sometimes(like when im doing it usually) there's no real organization like that, characters have just been stolen and plopped down into a new location and now the writer is pushing them together like we're all just playing dolls.

Feel free to take this all with a grain of salt, it's just things I've noticed in my own adventures through fandom, someone else might have a fully different view on things, but hey, what am I if not very prone to ppattern recognition.

Never Forget the Boner Joke

I. DO. NOT. TRUST. DISNEY. PERIOD.

ESPICALLY WITH THE FOXVERSE X-MEN CHARACTERS.

Does the Dadneto/Quickson fandom have a short term memory problem to forget about the Boner Joke? Made at the expense of Peter Maximoff's character, who was played by Even Peters. Wandavision built up all this hype around the idea of Mutants being the MCU and let theories run afoul. Disney didn't even try to dispel the rumors and as to not get everyone's hopes up, but instead said what were you expecting and FUCK YOU to X-Men Fandom as if Disney cared about what Even Peters's Quicksliver meant to us. Adding salt to the wound MCU fans said that Quicksliver sucked and thought the Boner joke was a masterpiece of cinematic comedy writing on pare with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when in actuality a sucker punch to Foxverse X-Men fans in order for them to get them hooked on Disney+.

I'm not saying you can't like Wandavision or the character of Wanda, Vison or any Marvel character for that matter.

I don't trust Disney and you shouldn't either. They don't give a shit about the characters. Or at least ye forget about other controversies surrounding Marvel's productions that aren't even a year old yet.

Loki series making Loki a shell of his former self, disrespecting the fandom surrounded him and the mutli layering subtext of colonialization, abuse, queerness, and imperialism. Also making the colonizer the good guy and writing off King Odin imperial conquests across the nine realms as 'good' painting Loki's actions as king of Asgard as cowardly and unbecoming of a king to let the nine realms rule themselves. Just shrugging all that interesting intersections of conflict within Loki as Loki being a selfish narcissist. Yeah...I'm sure that isn't going to upset fans at all.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. CEO Bob Chapek said: "interesting experiment," by only releasing Shang-Chi on Disney+ unlike "Black Widow," "Jungle Cruise" and "Cruella" would have both a theatrical release and be released on Disney+. When Shang-Chi was ground breaking in terms of Asian rep at a time when its really needed.

The blatant and disrespect in Wanda and Pietro's backstory just making them Nazi and anti-romani sentiment said by Wanda's actress. MCU/Disney being a propaganda arm of the military-industrial complex. Disney trying to go back to the Hollywood System and blacklist Scarlet Johansson. Obliviously taking a Miles Morales's story and plastering it on Peter Parker and also taking his poverty, which quite frequently showed up in his storylines, not even address it and its no longer a problem. Taking the entire plot of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse and making it suck.

I could write whole essays on each one of theses topics. In fact I have! I wrote a 20 page essay on how the US media promotes US imperialisms aboard focusing in on the Afghanistan and Iraq war. I featured the MCU quite heavily in that essay.

Personally, I've stopped watching Marvel movies after seeing Infinity War at the drive in. I was constantly looking at my phone wondering 'when the fuck is this movie going to be over with?' I was bored out of my mind and I didn't care about the plot or the characters. On some levels I liked that they interacted, but I still preferred their individual movies instead of end of phase 2 or whatever it is for the climax. MCU is basically a tv series on the sliver screen, we just been doopted.

There was a time that I enjoyed Marvel movies, but I just don't care anymore. If your wondering theses are my favorite marvels in no particular order: Black Panther, Antman and Wasp, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Thor.

If the rumor is true that Charles is going to be facing Wanda and then has his neck snapped. I expected the MCU to do no less with their treatment for the Foxverse characters.

The X-Men are canon fodder in order for the MCU's characters to look more powerful. Which I don't care for.

THEY DON'T GIVE A SHIT.

All they care about is making money and if they have to make soulless, lifeless husks of the characters, Charles, Erik, Peter that I hold dear. I want no part of it.

Now if you ask me. For all their flaws, the X-Men movies have soul and are well produced and Disney cannot take that away from me.

I kinda want an actual Spiderverse like fic for like each main fandom where it's canon the timelines are like universe ties are actually falling apart (kind of like the ask HC things your doing). This people crossing over would obviusly be Antiverse, Their Other Main Timeline counterpart (does it have a name the one with Phantom Phamily), Their Canon Counterpart and maybe their salt version if you really want I can't think of any-others other than your other MTLB&CN fics

So the one with Phantom Phamily I just call the "Swap Timeline" since that's where I toss powerswap AUs that I genuinely would like to work on.

But yeah we shoukd have Timeline Fuckery where everyone gets tossed in together.

Job hunting during this time remains the worst, but at least I have more time to rest during chronic pain episodes?

30, I’m still in denial over my age.

Unemployed at the moment since my contract as an archive research officer just ended. 

11) Do you prefer heat or cold? 

Heat because I inherited the family’s intolerance of the cold. That and I can have ice cream. 

12) Name one fact others may not know about you. 

I once sprained my neck while I was playing football in high school. I was part of the after school sports program at the local community centre for my volunteer hours. One minute I was doing a pass, the next I get hit in the neck with a football. 

13) Are you shy? 

Yep, I have really bad social anxiety so if you want to talk to me, it’s better if you message me first.

15) Biggest Pet Peeves? 

People who talk over other people and take up too much time when other people still have questions. I’ve had a few guys like this in class while I was still in school.

The only reason I know what this means is because I lurk on TV Tropes. I don’t really have one, but yanderes is a definite no-no for me. I do have a soft spot for kuuderes.

I’m really bad at reading social cues and between the lines so you have to let me know if I do anything that makes you uncomfortable. And sometimes I need a reminder that you don’t hate me.

Multi-fandom Match-Ups/Ships CLOSED

I may do exchanges on a case by case basis so just shoot me a message and we'll see.

That's right folks. You heard it here. I am going to open up match ups/ship requests for the time being. I dont usually take requests and I am currently very bored. The rules and fandoms will be listed promptly.

If you wish to see an example of my writing, it is in the post right below this one.

Rules:.

Tell me about yourself. Your personality, likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc and I will ship you with someone in your requested fandom. If you would like to send in a selfie you may. I won't post it publically unless you give me permission. :)

The more information the better. It gives me more to go off of and typically results in longer match ups. So if you want to set yourself up for success, do not be shy about telling me a lot.

Stick to my fandoms. Anything out side of the fandoms I list will be deleted.

I don't know how long these will be open but I will close them eventually so make sure they are actually open prior to requesting. Otherwise they will be deleted.

I usually only do one fandom simply because of how long and detailed my matchups tend to be (they can literally get from anywhere between two to nine pages). If you request multiple then just know that the matchup will likely be shorter and less detailed the more fandoms you request. No more than three please.

If you are doing a matchup exchange, I generally try to match the length of the matchup to whatever I got in return. However, I get carried away easily and I do not understand the concept of brevity so take this with a grain of salt 👍
