I’ve seen a few people in the TAD fandom talk about how good a TAD/Hozier collab would be, and here’s the thing. Y’all aren’t wrong! It would be absolutely incredible!

But if I may suggest a slightly more unhinged collab idea for your consideration:

The Amazing Devil and Mariana’s Trench

Hear me out! For some reason I haven’t been able to stop thinking about what it would sound like if Joey Batey and Joshua Ramsey were locked in a room and forced to write a song together. Cuz here’s the thing? I have no idea what that would sound like! But I do know that it would be life-changing and chaotic, and would completely destroy me emotionally, and would include an unnecessary number of classic lit references! And what more can you ask of a song?

Like! I am begging yall to listen to Echos of You and The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace side by side! Do the songs sound anything alike? Absolutely not! But that’s not what it’s about!

It’s about the strategic mid-song emotional/musical whiplash! It’s about simultaneously being haunted and doing the haunting! It’s about being aware that you’re not mentally healthy and reveling in it! It’s about 19th century poets! It’s about being monstrous! PLEASE listen to this shit!

Are you going to tell me that the line

doesn’t sound EXACTLY like some shit Joey Batey would write? Or that

Last series: Probably Taskmaster! I am also (very slowly) trying to watch Good Omens -- hoping to finally finish it over the holidays!

Last movie: The Verdict, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Paul Newman! Both the cinematography and acting were beautiful.

Currently working on: Sometimes it Takes a Prison Cell, my AU where Yennefer and Jaskier first meet in a dungeon. It's Yennskier-centric with endgame Geraskefer, just over 30k now, and I hope to maybe start posting it this week! I love it very much and am ridiculously excited to show it to you all :D

I'm also working on several crochet projects that will hopefully become Christmas gifts!

From that first lecture we to together freshman year, he was one if my best friends.

We hung out together, he studied together, our friends became our friends, we could communicate with looks and head tilts.

Took me a few years, but I finally realized that we had been rather in love with each other.

3. Song that reminds you of someone you used to love

I'm actually glad to say that this is a very very hard one. Because I can't really think of anyone that I used to love that I don't anymore. At least not in a dramatic way that would connect them to a TAD song. There are a few friends that I've lost touch with but even there, my best friends I've had since fifth grade at least and we're still best friends.

So the only one I can think of that would at least somehow fit the question would maybe be Secret Worlds because that song is very strongly connected to my childhood and younger teen years. We were a group of 6 friends that were very very close and it was very much a "us against the world" feeling. I have very fond memories of those times and while I am still friends with the individual people and still love them just as much, we did all change. (And also I had a huuuge crush on one of them and don't as much anymore so I guess that also counts haha)

4. Song that reminds you of someone you cherish

Oh I can't just pick one! There's so many!

Secret Worlds fits of course, as described above.

In a bit of a sadder light, Little Miss Why So reminds me of one if my close friends because she unfortunately had to deal with a person like that who just did not understand her mental illness and that sometimes, there is no Why. Makes we very angry and heartbroken though.

On to more positive ones:

Fair I connect very strongly to my partner. I am very grateful to Joey for writing that song because it really made me appreciate our relationship in a whole new way. The comfortable, long lasting love described in that song is exactly how I feel about him and I was able to see my love for him in a new perspective thanks to that song. I really think Fair had a significant impact on our relationship or at least on how I view it.

Welly Boots and Drinking Song are connected to my little sister. Welly Boots because for some reason in my mind the narrator is a sibling rather than a parent. I think it's because I feel very protective about her but also so so proud of her. And Drinking Song is her favorite TAD song and she found it all on her own even without me pestering her to listen to this band haha

Ok so I can't pick just one favourite lyric, so I'm gonna have to cheat and hope you forgive me!

“to the dark, I said pour, and forgot to say when”. It's just so perfect. So evocative. That feeling of not being able to pull yourself out of a dark place is expressed so well in just that line.

“and I climb up the ladder, had I taken more care, I might have seen all the rot in the rungs” Incredible. Trying to pull yourself up, but not having the stability or not having the footing to do so?? chef's kiss

“and for the first time in all my life, I know I'm more than what I fear”. This line gives me goosebumps (and hope!– as someone who's anxious about everything lol).

For my favourite instrumental part – the bit after “...saint of never getting it right” - that crescendo! I feel like I could take on the world when it hits!

The Calling

Oh man this song gives me all the emotions. The way the song starts out so soft and soothing, and builds to something epic. Madeleine's voice is just gorgeous. The way she almost whispers “guided me here”. The idea of looking at your reflection and no longer recognising yourself. The idea of rebirth. The battle between the person singing and the reflection. “I tried, I really fucking tried”. It's painful and contentious, but ultimately it's defiatly hopeful. And Joey's lyrics in the background encouraging her to go through it - “...just let the rain come...” so she can come out the other side stronger and better (“I can't wait to show you how much I know you can be”).

It makes me emotional. This, like so many of their songs, gives me hope and makes me feel like “I can do this”. I love them so much for that.

Currently reading: I’m reading a bunch of things for my master about movies, tv series and monster’s concepts. But when I don’t do my master, I’m reading the fifth volume of The Witcher. 

I live in Canada and I’m speaking French (it’s my first language), so I read some Quebec writers; currently I’m reading Roux clair naturel of Fanie Demeule. It’s about a girl that construct her entire identity on a lie; she’s not naturally a ginger. The character is obsessed to keep that secret down but she’s feeling guilty about it and she develop an identity crisis. It is beautifully written.

Hello again, hehe. For The Horror and the Wild album ask game, 12 and 15?

For the 12: What song do you always sing along with?

I'm not going to be original, but it's definitly the song Fair. Whatever I'm doing (most likely writing my master that doesnt want to be finished) I wil stop myself and just sing peacefully the lyrics. They help me to calm myself and to believe that I will share one day a love like this with someone. It encapsulate the certainty of a tomorrow (something an anxious girl like me crave everyday).

For the 15: If you could recommend only one THATW song to your followers, what would it be?

I would certainly recommend That Unwanted Animal for the extraordinary performance of Madeleine Hyland. She have an incredible strenght and sensitivity in that song (that she have in all the songs of that album and others) but it's really remarquable in that one. Her voice is ethereal and splendid in it. And the song is really good and, in my point of vue, talks of another way of the anxiety and the depression that Joey and Madeleine talk in Farewell Wanderlust. The one coming from within that you didn't suspect was there but wait the most unexpected moment to eat you alive, destroying you and everyone you love and adore.

4. What song from Love Run do you always sing along with? for the album ask game. :)

Again, that's a tough one! I sing along all of them (or more particularly, part of them). Doing lipsync on the ''Fuck you'' in ''New York Torch song'' with a mask in a public bus is one of the best thing to do ever (you all have to try it someday). But if i have to choose one song that I always sing along, it would be Love/Run. I sing the whole eight minutes with my heart and my soul - when Joey sing the first Unemployed, my knees go weaks...

The melody and the lyrics are juste soooo fine! It's the promise for adventures, for fun, for lazy day without culpabilities, for love, for dead, for life, for everything. That the only thing worth to move, to do something, is LOVE.

2 and 18 for the Love Run asks!

For the 2 : What song from Love Run gradually grew on you?

I would say Little Miss Why So.

I don't know really why, but at the first listening, I didn't understand the song. In fact, I didn't see where the song was in the story of these humans, what she meant for the two of them, what she was saying about them, about their relationship, about their past, present and future.

It's been only a few weeks that I really, but really listened to the lyrics and saw what that song meant for the protagonists in the vague and vast story of them that I made up (even that story change with time, with my endlessly listening of these songs).

For the 18: If you could pick one Love Run song to watch performed live, what would it be?

Oh my god! It's so difficult to choose! Like is it even possible to choose between one?

I would like to see King be performed just for that line, that I found absolutely beautifully written and sang:

The sea and its waters , every unwanted daughter (is that you're here)

Or even for the whole performance that must be to listen in live of New York Torch Song. Or even just for the comfort of listening Not Yet-Love Run in live.

I'm not sure if anyone has pointed out this parallel yet, but elsa's song and blossoms have a line each that really stand out in terms of imagery:

'and like flowers the bodies tumble // around this muddied lot'

'and I stare at the soldiers before me // all my blossoms that have waited to fall'

just... comparing soldiers to flowers is such a clever way of doing things and I'm glad they made that parallel between two songs, like they always do so cleverly.
