i know this is mostly frustrations with D17 based on the characters adapted from the comics, but i personally have a personal beef against the darkwing duck stuff, the initial concept of it being a show in-universe was... fine... and i LIKED the idea of Drake being an old fanboy making the character real, his dynamic with launchpad was fun and all, but i feel like once they brought in Gosalyn they completely took out everything that made her unique to make her a more standard 'Robin' type, getting rid of her feistyness and temper for more of a standard 'i can take care of myself girlboss' type
They said they wanted it to not be some sort of immediate attachment thing, that the Gosalyn THEY wanted wasn't one that would immediately start calling Drake 'Dad' and all, but that sort of eliminated the point of Drake being Gos' adoptive father in the first place, and Gos' search for belonging turning into a standard 'coming together to help with a mission' thing. And the Show's refusal to let anyone be 'dead' really weakened that in turn because with Gosalyn's grandfather technically still being alive albeit lost in another world then the orphan/foster kid desperate for a place to belong is cut off at the knees for a far more cookie cutter setup
My problem with DT17 is that they kinda nailed his sentimental adventurer side, but his relationship with money is so toned down. I want the Scrooge of Barks' one-pagers to emerge sometimes, but never got him.
#sorry i am DEEPLY emotionally attached to the drake and gos of the 90s#and i did NOT like the direction they took with them#and it feels really ironic to me that Gosalyn was supposed to be a sort of realistic take on it#'no self respecting parent would actually let their kid be their sidekick'#so for Gosalyn to be like ACTUALLY the sidekick now#feels.... rude
