Alcune impressioni su Obbligo o verità

Truth or Dare è il film diretto da Jeff Wadlow, regista poco prolifico legato a pellicole come Kick-Ass 2. Il budget è ridotto al minimo; il film mescola gli stilemi classici dell’horror ad una trama thriller incentrata su un’idea di fondo tutto sommato buona, piacevole, “estiva”.

Poi, però, entriamo nel merito. I primi venti minuti sono piuttosto monotoni: il gioco “obbligo o verità” è presentato in modo banale, ovvio, e dobbiamo quindi sorbirci le ripetute frecciatine tra il gruppo di amici, che mescolano i consueti ingredienti, soprattutto gelosia e sessualità.

Si tratta di un teen-horror scritto con il manuale e il freno a mano tirato ad ogni occasione in cui ci sarebbe voluta una decisa accelerazione. Alcune morti, infatti, sono ben ideate, ma la realizzazione è pessima e si perde così tutto il potenziale. Già vista e poco convincente anche l’introduzione di un demone, mentre è suggestiva la scelta finale.

I rimandi principali sono a pellicole come quelle della saga di Final Destination, ma ci sono anche affinità a film più recenti come Auguri per la tua morte. Per concludere, il film è sconsigliato, tanto più se siete amanti del buon horror, ma - certo - è un film accettabile per una normale serata tra adolescenti senza troppe pretese.
