haha this got long sooooooo

so. both of my parents are professional photographers with their own studios. obviously not saying which ones lol. my first conventions were actually photography conventions. fun night (themed party where everyone dressed up and played games for their teams to win a little bull trophy or something idr. my older sister and i used to try to convince the adults to let us play too) and the ice cream social (free ice cream sundae for everyone!) my beloveds. they got rid of them both and can't figure out why they can't get new (young) people to join and i am forever salty. when i was almost aged out of the age range they were going for, they started doing a kid section of the judgement thing and i was able to enter a couple things though. i might have blue ribboned a couple times? it's been close to two decades, don't look at me lol

there were also fun things like "the fancy colored pencils that kids are not allowed to touch" that my mum used for retouching, back before the days when digital photography and photoshop were big. or going with my dad to outdoor shoots so someone could hold the gray card and the reflector. i used to try to make it into shapes while we were walking from place to place. my favorite was this one that made me think of Simba. you know. this thing

he also called me back to the camera room a bunch for the ever important duty of "lean against this foam pillar so the seniors don't knock it over when they lean on it for their picture"

he even forced me to be second camera at weddings a couple times because he wanted me to do them on my own because they pay well. haha no i can't take the stress. miss that kiss and you're out of luck

god i just remembered looking through random negatives with my older sister. i think we may have been sorting them? or maybe just being gremlin children. unsure. we didn't ruin anything though to my knowledge (not counting the bathroom lock we "picked" open too many times using a pair of scissors to get the other to stop hiding in there)

okay fine i just remembered cracking a digital camera view screen when i tried to play fight with my little brother at home and there wasn't a big open area to do so in

i can recognize but not name a nice little number of things that were used for photography back in the 90s and so

also i learned how to use photoshop before paint, and still only really know how to crop and scribble out information i don't want to share in paint. i'd rather use photopea though lol (i can't afford my own copy of photoshop, and the last computer i had it on won't even start anymore and i don't know the code besides, so free browser copy it is!)

oh god that's right! mom entered a picture of me as a kid that made it into this one book that went all over the country! PPA loan collection or something. unsure of the year, but i used to like flipping to that page in the copy of the book my mom had

me as a kid, internally: oh gosh is it really allowed for me to wear boy clothes? even just for a picture? even though it's my mom telling me to wear the clothes?

me now: damn, i'm queer as hell. wish mum wasn't such a weird christian about shit though so i could feel safe around her

i'm just glad she bought me a binder. y'know. for cosplay (which is honestly what i mostly wore it for tbh)

she did dress up as Zorro once though! theme was "disney or what i want to be when i grow up"

i was a fairy. my older sister was Catwoman (and got chased behind a tree by the 101 dalmatians). and my little brother was a Jedi lol

it has occurred to me, as I age, that most people did not spend their childhoods getting simplified breakdowns of class-action lawsuits explained to them over dinner at least once a week

Okay so I cheated

I wasn't diligent about writing reviews for season 6 of True Blood. TBH, the season just.... wasn't the best. A major factor that kinda disinterested in me trying to track changes in the show episode to episode was dramatic downsize of importance and relevance of Tara and Lafayette. Like yes I do love and adore their characters, however they were also a very key and integral part of the story. Tara was pretty much the main protagonist of season 2 and Lafayette was a major catalyst for plot in season 4. These characters had weight to the overall narrative and mean something. Sure, Maryanne came to Bon Temps to sacrifice Sam, but it was Tara who "summoned" her (accidently cause the woman leading exorcism didn't know what she was doing lol). So for them just to be "around" season 6 while all these other characters go THROUGH IT this season. Like crazy bull shit has always happened in the show, but the characters really GO THROUGH IT this season. Like Sookie and Jason finally know what really happened to their parents AND Warlow is coming for Sookie. Bill is tripping on those Lilith visions. Jessica is trying to keep shit normal but OPPS she kills 3 fae children. Eric has to see his sisterlover get injected with an unknown fatal disease and has to have her die in his arms, losing both his maker and sisterlover in a matter of 2 years despite existing with each other for centuries. Like wow all that's sooooo interesting, so like maybe Tara and Lafayette could be going through it too. Tara and her mom? Lafayette and the passing away of his boyfriend? Like wtf, Lafayette and Jesus get like 2 scenes of dealing with Jesus death and BOOM Lafayette is back to his "fabulous" self. Like????? I know he has some romantic stuff that happens in season 7 but it's all tied with Jess and that random white boy vampire and like....

And like why would they like RANDOMLY have this super important heartfelt moment with her mother despite Lettie Mae being absent this season?? Like Tara literally has NO character arc in season 6 yet we are just gonna..... THROW OUT a random ass scene where Lettie Mae tries to make amends with Tara. No "omg so sorry you were locked in a vampire concentration camp" or nothing. And like... I know exactly what happens in the beginning of season 7. Tara fucking dies OFF SCREEN during the COLD OPEN OF EPISODE 1 of the last season and then Lettie Mae and Lafayette spend the season chasing Tara's ghost just for her ghost to be like "it's aight lol" and peace out to the afterlife???

ALSO.... stepping away from the black characters for a second but what the fuck are they doing with Jason?? I'm sorry but like his whole relationship with Violet seems extremely abusive, manipulative, and nonconsensual. I truly believe this a prime example of "if the gender roles were reversed, we all would be super grossed out and uncomfortable with it". But since it's Jason, the show seems to treat any and all sexual scenarios "viable" for his character. Like, they paint Jason to be "the man whore" and within that justify anything "bad" that happens to him (directly or indirectly) because of his "promiscuous ways" despite Jason bouncing from monogamous relationships to monogamous relationships since season 1. I just.... it's just uncomfortable. Straight up. Especially since the show has established that Jason was sexually abused as a teen because an teacher manipulated him and he REALIZES THAT YEARS LATER. Yet, it was treated like a joke? Like everything that happens to Jason, no matter how traumatic it would be to literally any other human, is just like not that big of a deal cause "lol Jason is just a dumb dumb with rock hard abs". Goddamn this 2021 perspective is like.... everything with Jason and Violet just feels sooooooo gross.
