Shows that may still be removed from the tournament
Copying the shows under Pending from this list and pasting them here to highlight them.
If these shows don’t remove their pending status before October 16 8pm EST, they will be removed from the tournament.
Tumblr media
If no reason is stated, then that submission simply had insufficient/unconvincing propaganda.
Crossed-out items are those that have been edited and nothing else needs to be done. They are now allowed into the tournament.
Astra: Lost in Space
Cap Kakumei Bottleman DX - Propaganda contains too many spoilers and needs revision. Also lacks triggers
Charlotte - Putting this back in pending after reviewing the propaganda—it’s too short and not so convincing
Hinamatsuri - Propaganda tells too much about what happened in the show, and I can’t tell if they’re considered spoilers or not.
Kemurikusa - Propaganda may contain spoilers (To submitter: The last part about Earth seems spoilery)
Kyousou Giga - I had initially accepted the propaganda despite it being too short, but since the show also lacks any statement on trigger warnings, that makes it have two deficiencies. Might as well move it to pending.
Meganebu - insufficient/unconvincing propaganda and lacks triggers
Planetarian - Propaganda too short. Also lacks triggers.
Plastic Memories - There is enough propaganda for it to be included, but I’m still waiting for someone to submit something more substantial about it. Also lacks triggers.
Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live - Submitter might’ve shared too much about the drama in the show, spoiling it for others.
Requiem of the Rose King - I initially accepted this despite having such short propaganda, but then I realized it would be unfair to make an exemption for it when I didn’t for the others…
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho/A Place Further Than The Universe - To submitter: Is the part about one character grieving (implying that someone died) something we should know? Or is that a spoiler?
Vatican Miracle Examiner
Tumblr media
Propaganda that needs revision can be edited by the submitter on the GForm. Others may also make a new submission with their own propagand for it to be accepted.
If, for some reason, the original submitter cannot edit the GForm, then the updated propaganda may be sent to me here via ask or DM.
Pasting this from the FAQ as well:
Should I submit an entry or submit an appeal?
Submit an Entry
for shows not yet submitted, as listed on the Tentative List of Submissions
for shows that are already on the Tentative List of Submissions but you want to add your own propaganda for it. (Multiple submissions for the same show is okay!)
for non-submitters wanting to edit propaganda of shows under the Pending category in the Tentative List of Submissions due to having unconvincing/insufficient/spoilery propaganda. Your submission will be counted as a propaganda revision in this case.
Submit an Appeal
only for shows that have already been submitted, as listed on the Tentative List of Submissions
when you disagree on an Accepted/Pending show being included in the tournament
when you disagree on a Pending/Rejected show being excluded from the tournament
in reply to another user's appeal.
If you want your appeal to be anonymous, open the link below in an incognito tab:

Thoughts on the concept of Selina as Jason's surrogate mom in an AU? Like, if he never got adopted by Bruce but was Selina's little boy instead?
I mean, all AUs are valid and people have the right to think and headcanon what they want, so I'm never gonna put that down. But personally, that's never gonna be something I'm overly fond of, for a lot of reasons. Most crucially, I kinda abhor any and all "Jason never gets adopted" AUs. No shade on people who enjoy them, and absolutely no disrespect to anyone who's written them, but I've never gone looking for one or attempted to read one and I never will. It just feels like another way to other Jason from his family. Tim and Dick and Cass don't get nearly as many "never adopted" AUs, because people are more willing to acknowledge that they're important to Bruce and the family makeup and are a part of the family. But canon is already so shitty about Jason being considered a part of the family, when he literally is, when he's one of the first members of that family (and legally, the first to be properly brought into the family, since Dick was only adopted well into adulthood as opposed to Jason being adopted right off the bat), and I don't really care for fandom going down the track too. Jason's a member of the Batfamily, he's a member of Bruce's family, he is Bruce Wayne's son in all the ways that matter, legally and emotionally, and adoption does not get voided by death of the adoptee. It's why I'm not the biggest fan of "totally green eyes post Lazarus Pit" stuff either, because of how much hay is given to the Batboys all looking alike with dark hair and blue eyes, quit othering Jason out of his own damn family just because canon is shitty to him or you think your own fave should be more special than they are.
A reason why I don't think a "Selina adopts Jason" works for me is also my views on Jason and motherhood, which is that Jason already has a mother. And this was a mother that he loves a lot, that he cared deeply for even after her death, that was primarily responsible for raising him (even when he wasn't even biologically her's), that he mourns and misses. And you might say "well he also had a father but he has no problem making Bruce his new father" with regards to Willis, but those are different situations. One, in some canons, Willis is straight up abusive. He is physically violent to both his wife and his son, and Jason is never that cut up about the fact that he's dead, which is why Jason's so willing to immediately slot Bruce into a fatherly role in his life. But even if we remove the abusive stuff, or try to add some nuance to it, the fact remains that Willis was out of Jason's life for a while before he met Bruce, and was gonna stay out of it for a long time. Jason had the time and the space to process Willis being gone and staying gone, to internalize that and accept that as his new reality. And thus, he had the space within himself to accept a new father figure with a good amount of readiness, and view himself as Bruce's son as well as viewing Bruce as his father (but also still being able to grieve Willis when he's killed by Harvey Dent because there's a big difference between "in prison for a long time" and "dead"). But that doesn't exist with Catherine. Catherine dies, either from illness or overdose, and Jason is immediately thrust into survival mode. He does not have that same time and space to process his emotions, grieve his mother, accept life without her, especially in the immediate aftermath of the loss. And when you don't have the ability to really sit down with your feelings and process them, you internalize them a lot, and it creates a lot of obstacles to healing. And because of that, I don't think Jason would ever really want a new mother figure. He goes looking for Sheila not because he necessarily wants a mother specifically, but because he's concerned that his placement in Bruce's life is not permanent and he's looking for a back up plan so that he's not back to square one. His mother is Catherine, I just can't buy a story where Jason is willing to set her aside any time soon. It's why I'm not overly fond of that fanon some people have where Jason calls Talia "Mom" (along with my other feelings on how Talia and Jason's relationship needs to be handled with more complexity than both fanon and canon want to give it, rather than making it "oh she was evil and also raped him and it wasn't racist that we wrote that we swear" or "sweet Talia loved Jason as a son and never did anything wrong by him ever and Jason worships the ground she walks on" depending on your proclivities, Jason's got one mom and it's Catherine Todd.
I can't speak much to Selina's view on things because I don't know a lot about her character, nor is she someone whose stories I necessarily seek out. So whether or not she would have been in the headspace to have kids, did she want kids, was that something she was looking for at that point in her life, was she capable of taking care of a child in a full time parental role the way Jason would have needed at that age, I can't really speak on. Selina's a caring person, and she's certainly capable of affection and warmth, and she's got a caretaker personality especially as it relates to the downtrodden of society, but there's a big difference between that and actively wanting to be a parent. Part of what makes Bruce and Jason work so well (and makes the tragedy of their Batman and Robin era all the more poignant) is that things went really smoothly for them for the bulk of their time together. Bruce not only knew he wanted to be a parent, a proper parent, but he'd ironed out all of his kinks and smoothed over the bumps during his time raising Dick (as an eldest child I can relate, I like to joke my mom and I had a very "first pancake" type relationship when I was a kid) and avoid a lot of the mistakes he made with him when raising Jason (instead making all new ones!). And Selina and Bruce are different people, so it's entirely reasonable that they might not have aligned on where they were when it came to parenting when Jason found himself in need of a parent. I don't think Selina would make him her Robin though, I'm not sure where that vibe came from. She's not a vigilante trying to help people extrajudicially, she's a straight thief. She's Catwoman because she's a cat burglar. While Batman can have a Robin not only due to Dick and Jason's needs for Robin in their lives but also as a crime fighting partner, a thief does not need a little mini thief to help them out, especially cat burglars whose whole thing is stealthily breaking into places on their lonesome. Like, Ocean's Twelve wouldn't have been improved if the laser dance scene had a little kid accompanying Vincent Cassel the whole time. So I think Catlad!Jason would be a no-go even if Selina did adopt Jason rather than Bruce.
I'm sorry anon, those are really the only thoughts on the concept I have. Again, if people are into that, go nuts, have fun! It's not for me personally, for the reasons I've outlined above, but there's a lot of content out there, and I'm certain that a lot of the people who make it put thought into how Selina and Jason's lives would be changed and how they themselves would change and be altered as they grew and developed a relationship. I'm pretty sure a good chunk of the "Jason Todd is never adopted" tag on AO3 is for Selina adopts Jason stuff, go forth and be merry! It's just not my cup of tea.

so i wanted to talk about why i really like the way royal portrays the interactions between haru, futaba, and akechi.
in royal, insofar as i can see, haru is treats akechi with a sort of kindly polite working relationship. i actually cannot determine whether or not that’s because it’s akechi, or if it’s just because he’s a boy. her relationships with girls tend to be focused on spreading positivity and being kind, while she doesnt seem to be anything less than formal and shy with the boys--except mona, of course, but that’s a little different because he’s a talking cat.
futaba, on the other hand, seems to treat him like a potential traitor for comedic effect, which i can’t imagine she’d be doing if she thought he was going to betray them for real. (we already know what futaba did when she knew akechi was going to betray them, which was put everything on lockdown and bug his phone.) on the other hand, people do tend to make jokes about things that worry them, so akechi’s betrayal does seem to be on her mind either way.
haru is, notably, the first person to advocate for bringing akechi on the team, seconded by futaba. both of them cite the fact that they need the manpower, and both of them seem to be of the opinion that if he betrays them again, they’ll just squash him like they did the first time.
which is a very notable difference from the direction fandom interpreted that relationship. and i like the way that fandom interpreted haru and futaba as potentially never forgiving akechi for what he did, but i do think there’s a lot of merit in royal’s take.
in royal, haru and futaba’s concern seems to be primarily that he’ll backstab them again. specifically, when they’re discussing akechi joining the PT a second time, both of them reference akechi’s betrayal rather than necessarily his murders.
for some reason, the issues with wakaba and okumura aren’t even on the table. even when futaba and haru talk about losing their parents a second time in their third-tier awakenings, they talk generally about losing someone they love, like they’d died of illness, or an accident, or natural causes--like it was something unfortunate for which nobody is really to blame.
to be fair, it seems that they’ve already blamed someone: shido, who’s in jail. the situation has been resolved. they’ve done what they can to hold the people accountable to task. futaba at one point specifically says that shido is the one who killed her mother. i don’t think haru gets as far as saying “shido killed my father,” but considering the way she behaves in royal, i’m going to wager she’s on a similar page.
the stance here seems to be that although akechi may have really truly and outrageously fucked up, the deaths of wakaba and okumura are still ultimately shido’s fault. shido was the one who ordered those hits, for one. for two, shido’s the person who created and masterminded the entire government conspiracy that eventually led to both wakaba and okumura being silenced for what they know. and, considering that okumura was the one ordering literal assassinations of his business rivals to grow his own business through his connection with shido’s conspiracy, and that okumura was assassinated because shido’s conspiracy cut him loose, we should also be fair and add that okumura’s death was partly his own fault anyway.
so, from what i can see, the attitude isn’t necessarily that haru and futaba have completely forgotten that akechi is technically the person who shot and killed their parents. but they’re also very aware that the situation was more complicated than that, that shido is primarily responsible, that akechi was a victim in his own ways, and, at the end of the day, they kind of do need him to get back to reality.
the vibe is almost like, sort of like the p5 fandom, the PT don’t really know what to do with akechi. he’s not outright a villain. he’s not one of the PT. they’re sympathetic, although understanding that he’s done terrible things. what’re you supposed to do with that?
i think, in particular, this is reflective of a very interesting dynamic that’s widespread across royal: everyone in royal seems to be much more forgiving of akechi than akechi is.
forgiving might be a too strong of a word, but at the very least, the phantom thieves’ treatment of akechi is almost hilariously understated considering what he’s done. they sometimes rib him in mementos, but not really any more seriously than they rib, say, ryuji. there’s several mementos dialogues where people make small talk with him--nothing super personal, but general platitudes that you’d exchange with someone you don’t know extremely well, like talking about your health and good sleep. they’re notably wary of him as a potential threat on several occasions, but obviously not so wary that ann won’t cheerily talk to him about thrift-shopping.
as uncomfortable as i imagine those group dynamics must be, from an outside perspective it’s fucking hilarious because akechi is literally just the awkward villain-turned-friend that sometimes they invite out to parties but he just stands there awkwardly in the corner because nobody knows what to fucking do with him, least of all akechi himself.
but from a more serious perspective, i do think that again, there’s a bigger issue at play.
saying “akechi is not the one who killed okumura, it was shido” erases the fact that akechi was--apparently--willingly involved in the operation. i think royal makes it clear that he had mixed feelings on it, and wanted to back out of it on several instances (see: his confidant with akira where he hints at bad things to come, and warns akira not to proceed), but in the end, he did still go along with it. he sure did walk into that interrogation room and make the conscious decision to shoot joker in the head. in the end, even if it wasn’t enough to refuse shido’s orders, akechi still did have some measure of agency.
in order to respect that akechi did have agency in the situation, that means he needs to be held accountable for his piece of it, which means that he feels he needs to be held accountable and tried before the law.
so, any amount of apparent forgiveness from the phantom thieves--particularly from haru and futaba--would seem like they’re ignoring that he was (or at least felt like) a willing participant in shido’s conspiracy.
(i would go into a further discussion about how in royal, akechi seems to hold agency as a good purely in and of itself. agency should not be given up under any circumstance, even if the rewards for doing so are immense. it doesn’t matter if maruki is solving worldwide problems with his gigantic dreamworld palace, what matters is that it’s removing free will and the ability to make your own decisions for your own life. akechi holds that nothing is worth losing your agency--nothing, not even a perfect happy end. it means a lot to him. enough that he’d insist on it, even if it means that this means insisting that he should be held accountable for all his bad decisions and murders.)
that, in turn, probably explains a lot about akechi’s insistence on returning to reality, his insistence on going to trial and being held accountable in joker’s stead, his stand-off-ish behavior with the rest of the phantom thieves. haru’s and futaba’s and the phantom thieves’ general willingness to shift the blame onto shido goes against akechi’s own insistence on himself as a meaningful actor in his own life.
...in any event. with that analysis of royal’s character interactions out of the way, i sort of do want to address the fact that some people are unhappy that royal did not address wakaba’s and okumura’s deaths more, or centralize haru and futaba’s losses in royal’s narrative. i’ve seen 1000 takes and 1000 fanfics in which futaba and haru hold akechi accountable for their parents’ deaths and do not forgive him for it. akechi is, quite literally, the person who pulled the trigger on both of their parents, so it’s fair. and i’ve seen a lot of fanfics and fans who’ve built up haru’s and futaba’s entire characterizations on their inability to forgive akechi.
i’ve seen discourse saying that “even if it’s not really akechi’s fault that okumura died, haru’s feelings are still valid.” which is also true, of course. she did grieve over her father, and in some universes, haru would not come to the conclusion that shido is primarily to blame. i think there’s a really compelling story in which haru knows logically that her father died because of his own mistakes, flirted with a government-wide killing ring and got hiimself killed for it, and she knows that it’s shido who killed okumura, but she still cannot find it in herself to really forgive akechi. it’s a very good and cool angle that i personally like a lot.
i like those stories too, is what i’m saying. it’s not the route that royal went with, clearly. but i sort of wanted to throw my hat in the ring about why i think that the interactions between haru, futaba, akechi, and the general PT in royal are also interesting in their own right.
EDIT: literally JUST saw this really good compilation post of haru and akechi’s mementos dialogue!!!

Some Roses Will Never Bloom: A Rewrite Of Volume 8, Part 1
Never before have I felt so disappointed with the turnout of a RWBY Volume. It had the potential to be extremely good, but it chose mediocrity. Again. It felt like Volume 5 all over again.
I know I should probably wait for the final two episodes, but let’s be fucking honest here. Atlas is done. The plot is finished. These two episodes, if people are to be believed, are to hype for the next Volume and even then, given how RWBY did its “hype” and “payoff” in Volume 8… No, fuck that noise. Those last two episodes will get their own segment called the Volume 9 Character Short. If anything, only scenes with Emerald from those two episodes will be brought over to Volume 8 and if they’re big scenes, like her interacting with Cinder, I’ll make an addendum.
Before we begin, keep in mind that this is not a complete rewrite. If there’s a scene I haven’t mentioned, that’s because it’s good as is and can be left in. Length wise, I’ll try to aim for the same 14 episodes, but minutes wise… Who even counts these anymore?
So, let’s get into the meat and potatoes with a Meta-Rewrite. If this does not interest you, skip ahead to when I start talking about the episodes.
Grimm Expectations
Let’s rewind the clocks back to the hiatus of Volume 7-8. Rooster Teeth is proud to announce a new contest where Grimm entries are submitted and the winner would receive a prize. There was controversy the minute it began and it only got worse when the finalists were called.
So, let’s fix that. In this Meta-Rewrite, Rooster Teeth decide to instead broadens the prize pool to include five winners instead of the one, with no popularity contest to determine the winner. Of course, this doesn’t fix the contest results, which includes a controversial figure. However, because there is no voting involved, it instead becomes a flame war over the design that, let’s be honest, wouldn’t have mattered in the grand scheme of things.
So, yeah, RT uses all five Grimm winners, disregards any fucks that the fanbase has (again) and the only thing I could see happening is if the artist personally reached out to Rooster Teeth and requested it to be removed, to which RT will word it so that it doesn’t backfire in their face.
Alright, now let’s do it.
Divide
We’ll start right where the show left off, with Oscar witnessing the Whale arrive onto Atlas. However, curiously, it is stationary. Oscar asks what’s up with it before Ozpin cryptically tells him that’s what she wants it to do. We don’t need to see a huge montage of Oscar getting to the Crater, but just enough to know how he got there.
We cut to RWBY and co discussing what to do now, especially with Salem making good on her threat. Ruby tries to contact Qrow and Oscar, but she can’t reach them. Pietro and Maria pilot the aircraft down to the same discreet spot they parked in Volume 7. However, as they get off, they’re ambushed by soldiers. Just then, Johanna, May, and Fiona barge in and beat them with an ambush of their own.
“What the hell just happened!?” Johanna barked at Ruby. We’ll cut to fifteen minutes later where they all discuss what happened
“So, Ironwood’s finally lost it.” May mutters. They hear the news and see their wanted posters. Most notably, they see that Robyn and Penny are added to the list and that she and Qrow have a big “ARRESTED” sign over them. However, with Oscar, there’s a clear big red X over his face, causing Ruby to fret. Jaune gets upset and punches a wall, blaming himself for leaving Oscar behind on both occasions.
I don’t think Jaune would blame Ruby at this point, since 1) he, at this point, knows better than to point fingers and 2) it’s more his character to beat himself up rather than someone else.
It’d still be Yang, but she’d be joined by Ren. Yang brings up how Ruby’s leadership led them to this situation and Ren mentions how they destroyed Ironwood’s trust, not knowing what was really said up there back in “Gravity”. Ruby told Yang about how they not only went behind Ironwood’s back but also theirs by telling Robyn about the Amity Tower and thus burned their bridge with Ironwood, only for Blake to go on full blast and say what Critics have been saying for the entire hiatus:
“YOU GUYS ARE ACTING JUST LIKE THE WHITE FANG!”
She explains how they’ve done the exact same things that the White Fang had done, taking lives, stealing vehicles, but she adds the extra caveat of bringing up how they’ve also borrowed from Ozpin’s playbook. She confesses to being the one who planned on telling them about Amity.
However, Johanna breaks up the fight and tells them flat out: doesn’t matter what they did, they need to worry more about what to do. This is when they argue more about what’s important: Amity or Mantle. The team splits up the same way, since it is integral for their arcs to be like this and not go with the obvious “Ren cared about saving the world so he’s going for Amity and Nora cared about Mantle so she will help Mantle.”
Ruby frets more, since “this is what Salem wants”, only for Yang to retort: “well, she’s already getting that right now…”, which stings Ruby since she feels like it meant her splitting off with Ruby while she actually meant what happened with Ironwood. We’re not gonna do the “future” stuff. I feel like that should happen naturally instead of confusing people.
Just before they go, though, Ironwood calls Penny and tells her that Salem is here. Penny is about to answer when Ruby takes the phone away and tells him to fuck off, only for Ironwood to go “hey, people are going to die if you’re acting like a doofus about it!” Ironwood tries to talk more, but Ruby hangs up on him.
We smash cut to Ironwood growling in frustration, looking at the arm he lost in order to stop Watts. He gets a solemn look, pondering to himself about how far he must go in order to save the world. His arm trembles and thinks back to shooting Oscar. He begins to have second thoughts about what he had done, though they’re brief as the Councillors came in. During their rant, Ironwood grabs Sleet by the throat and drags his ass out to a window where they see the whale.
“YOU SEE THAT!? That is what we tried to protect the world from and now it’s at our front door. That’s why I’ve enacted Martial Law.” He then tosses Sleet to the guards and tell him to lock the Councilmen up. “You two have gotten in my way before. I won’t let it happen again.” As they get dragged away, he looks over to Winter and apologizes. Had he not arranged for her to be the Winter Maiden, she wouldn’t have been injured.
Winter reassures him and tells him that he was the only person who has given her purpose in life after her father ruined it. Ironwood is both touched and horrified with that comment, especially once the Ace Ops come, having done their grieving for Clover. Harriet also affirms her faith in Ironwood and tells him that Clover died for his Kingdom. Ironwood gives a moment to think… Closing his eyes.
“So… If I’ve led you all onto the path of hell…” He opens them as we see the light in his eyes disappear, followed by the sound of a loud, distinctive click. “Then there’s no other choice but to keep moving forward.”
And as we get our first official look at Mettle, the opening plays out.
Refuge
The villain scene from Episode 1 is moved over to here, but Cinder brings up why they haven’t made their move yet. Salem brings up that Tyrian’s report of the situation has confirmed that Ironwood has taken her bait and is now the greatest weapon they have. Let him destroy Atlas from the inside out and then clean up the mess. She then brings the relic to the Hound and has him sniff for Oscar’s scent.
The rest of the episode plays out like usual, with Ruby and Yang’s teams doing their thing, but with Oscar at the Crater, he’s not there for the scenes. He does still have his chat with Ozpin about how they’ll be one soon, however. He sees Yang, Ren, and Jaune arrive with people and he is elated to see them. He is elated to see them and asks what happened with the others. Yang sums up and then Oscar asks what happened to Qrow, Clover, and Robyn.
Cut to the jailbirds and Qrow saying how he wants to murder Ironwood. The Councilmen are tossed in while they extract Watts.
The Hound Scene gets changed somewhat, as we see it attacking Oscar in the middle of the Crater, bringing people to harm against the Hound. This furthers the reason why they couldn’t just shoot the Grimm, since the Hound threatens the lives of the refuges in the Crater. We end our episode there.
Strings
So, here’s where I think we’re going to make the big changes and axe a subplot. While the premise of Penny being hacked and her aura resisting it is good, I feel like, of the subplots that need to be cut, this would be the one. We can dedicate more of this time to her conflict with being the Protector of Mantle and now being the Winter Maiden, in other words being the Protector of Atlas.
Meanwhile, Nora, Ruby, and Blake all have their doubts. Ruby and Nora are obvious, but Blake has trouble deciding if she made the right call in returning to RWBY. Weiss, in a Tsundere way, brings up how she is a very integral part of the team. Blake then brings up how, if it weren’t for her, then they wouldn’t have had a hard time getting to Atlas, blaming herself for both their rejection at Argus and how Adam ruined their plans in the hijacking.
Weiss, however, wants none of that. While this was Ruby’s plan, Weiss takes charge of the operation due to Ruby being emotionally compromised. She gets a taste of being a leader in this episode, one she had wanted in Volume 1.
During this, Ironwood discusses matters with Watts, where they talk about the possibility of hacking Penny. For this rewrite, I think keeping the ‘Watts is working with Ironwood’ angle, complete with Ironwood having guns pointed to him, would benefit Ironwood’s arc and show how low he’s going. Not just working with one of Salem’s thugs, but also holding them at gun point. Ironwood justifies it by saying that this is Watts’s ‘punishment’ for the crimes he’s done. Watts, however, plays it by ear and waits for the opportune time for a backstab. That and he wants to stick it to Pietro.
The rest of the episode plays out like normal, but we get that ‘made a deal with the darkness’ scene as Watts is dragged back to his cell, Harriet has a hissy fit, and Robyn is like ‘you’re looking for someone to blame’. As the Ace Ops and Guards leave, Watts brings Qrow’s ‘we kill the man who put us here’ idea back to him and says he’s interested in his offer.
Fault
We open right where we leave off, as Watts reveals that he’s only getting close enough to Ironwood to acquire the right tools to escape. He then proceeds to dangle the carrot in front of Qrow.
“We’ve all been screwed over by Ironwood in one form or another. He disrupted your business, abandoned your town, betrayed your Headmaster.” The last part gets to Qrow and he lashes out. “We all want him dead, so… are you in or are you out?”
“Preposterous!” Jacques, to Robyn’s surprise, beat her to the punch. “Let’s not forget that you’ve done your fair share of screwing. Believe me, I had my experience. I know better than to trust you.”
“You’ve trusted Ironwood, right? And look where it got you. All of you.” That comment hangs in the air.
“We wanted Ironwood out for some time, but not like this! Are you mad?” Sleet asked. Robyn is visibly horrified at what Watts is suggesting and is the next to speak up.
“Jacques has a point for once in his life. Why should we trust you when you’re the reason Mantle is in this mess in the first place?” Then Qrow raises his hand.
“I want to hear him out.” Qrow said.
“What? What do you mean? You realize he works with-”
“I know! But remember who we’re dealing with. This prison… It’s not like the kind of prisons I’ve seen, especially in Atlas. No other people but us, only the top of Ironwood’s army are allowed to check in, and I’m pretty sure the guards aren’t allowed to give you that shiner. No… This isn’t our holding cell. It’s an execution cell, and we’re just waiting for Ironwood to drop the axe.”
We end on that implication as we see the episode play out like normal. While I like to have Ren bring up Pyrrha, I think the “cheated into Beacon” thing is big enough and we’ll need to unravel that bundle of worms. Instead of the “yeah, Ruby” scene, we could have Yang ask Jaune what he meant and Jaune reveals his fake transcripts. He also reveals that, for a time, he blamed Pyrrha’s death on his inexperience and that he knew about Pyrrha using her Semblance on his shield some time later. Yang, however, isn’t really in a position to pat Jaune’s back.
Meanwhile, the group crash at Whitley’s mansion, but Weiss doesn’t immediately point a sword at him. She’s tempted to as Whitley complains about having to harbour criminals without an explanation as to what’s going on, but then she notices that… he’s afraid. She then remembers Willow’s words to her and calmly goes “If you’re willing, I’ll explain everything. Please. Just help her.”
And we end on the Grimm River.
Amity
This episode is mostly the same, but with two exceptions. One, Ironwood does not, in any way, try to interfere with the broadcast. This had been the thing he was working on the whole time and, albeit without the Ironwood could no longer be trusted bit (which he looks solemnly away to), is pretty much what he wanted. And two, Watts ‘fakes’ hacking Penny.
He later reveals to his coup that there’s no way to hack Penny, bringing up how they had her schematics back in Volume 3 but were unable to activate the virus for her. What he really did was force a reboot and lied out of his ass about how it was a failed attempt. He then reveals the broken phone and offers the escape plan one last time.
Midnight
Here we are. One of the biggest episodes in Volume 8. The big backstory reveal for Cinder…
And we’re instead going to make it about Hazel, so instead, it’s going to be…
Gingerbread
We open with twins, lost in the woods. The elder reassures the younger that everything will be fine. They were abandoned by their parents to line their bellies and forced to fend for themselves. There, they come across a house that looked like it was made of gingerbread, with eagled eyed viewers being able to spot a young Cinder being carted off.
A blind woman greets the kids and brings them into the house. We know the schtick here, though instead of fattening the kids up to be eaten, she toughens them up to be sold to wealthy people who use them as child labourers. Gretchen finds out about this but she gets captured and is about to be killed to be silenced. Hazel, in a fury, ends up awakening his Semblance and, using a Dust Crystal, sets the house ablaze as they escape.
A montage plays out of them surviving however they can, even joining some bandits and raiding towns. However, during one such raid, they’re stopped by a young Qrow and have them be brought to Ozpin, which plays out similarly to how Ruby got inducted into Beacon.
We cut to Oscar chatting with Ozpin about Salem’s plan and how it seemed to be working before getting the idea to do the same to her. As Hazel walks in and gets upset that Ozpin casually says hello, Ozpin asks: “Why? Why do you follow Salem?”
“You know why. Did you tell him the full story?”
We cut back to another montage where we see that Hazel and Gretchen are part of the same team and they were the best years of their life. Unfortunately, they go on a mission to Mountain Glenn where it just so happens to be the time a mad scientist was fucking around there. They try to stop the Grimm from overrunning it, but it seems hopeless. Hazel, as the team leader, pulls the team back. However, Ozpin gives them the order to not run away and to hold the line. Gretchen follows this to a T and sacrifices herself in vain.
This devastates Hazel and causes him to drop out of Beacon, bearing a grudge against Ozpin. Not only that, but it paints some parallels between Hazel, Qrow, and Jaune, as all of them had friends they lost to the orders of a Headmaster who they despised. Qrow teeters in the middle (he talks big about killing Ironwood but hasn’t committed to it yet) between Jaune (who accepted Pyrrha’s choice and lets go of his hatred) and Hazel (“OZPIIIIIN!”). It also presents a dark parallel to the current story, since Atlas and Mantle are currently undergoing a similar siege, but it’s Ruby who insists on holding the line.
Ozpin admits that this was just one of his many mistakes, but asks again why he decided to work with Salem because of it, when she was the one behind the Grimm. Hazel then answers the obvious:
“I tried to kill her.”
We then get to see Hazel beat her senseless in a flashback, only to reform from dust and taunt him. Eventually, he gave up as Salem comforts him before revealing that Ozpin has sacrificed people like him for one huge lie (as she does this, Sacrifice plays). He then swears his allegiance to her if it means there’d be no more Gretchens.
Ozpin cuts the flashback by retorting that she’s planning to bring-
Salem comes in. The show’s about to start.
Cut to Weiss as she enters Whitley’s room. She notices that he just finished calling someone and suspects he’s ratting out on them. Whitely denies this and calls Weiss out for being overtly protective. Weiss counters by saying that she grew up in a hostile home and can’t really trust any Schnee but her sister, which she begins to doubt.
Whitley brings up that she barely had it as bad as he did and talks of his turmoil of living with the parents alone while Winter was at Atlas and Weiss was at Beacon. Between his mother’s drunken rambles and his father’s angry rants, he barely had time to live his own life. He just lets Weiss have it for ditching him before he breaks down and realizes that, no, he’s just jealous because she got to be free while he was still stuck in the cage. Weiss remembers when she was grounded and stripped of her title and realizes “oh… shit.”
Then the doorbell rings and, surprise, it’s Klein. Whitely explains that they need a doctor for Nora and without Jacques, he figured to invite the person he fired just to further spite his ass. He and Weiss begin to rekindle an old flame that they never ignited.
Back with Salem, the scene plays out like normal, but when we see Cinder get tortured, we see flashes of Cinder having a shock collar, hinting to her big backstory event. Then Salem has a small speech.
“It would appear that we have been brought forth into the light as monsters and villains. So, why not play that part and show them why dear old Ozma had to keep me a secret for so long… It’s time.”
Suddenly, Beringels fly out of Monstra and Zerg Rush the shields while the Grimm River activates and rushes forth, destroying the hut that RJY were at and almost killing them. Jaune sends out a distress call with his scroll as they try to avoid getting washed away in the water. They see that it’s heading to Mantle and that the plan by Salem is a two-prong attack to further force the division between Mantle and Atlas by putting them both in peril.
During this, Ren tries desperately to activate his Semblance, but just couldn’t. He panics, he worries, he sees Grimm emerge from the River to try and kill them and he just can’t make his Semblance work. He asks why now of all times must this happen. He closes his eyes and tries to think… Then sees petals on himself. Before he has any time to figure out what happened, they see a plane arrive and blast the River, stopping it in its tracks. Just before Jaune is about to thank their savior, they see that it’s Winter and the Ace-Ops…
War
The Beringels break through the shields and invade, destroying much of Atlas and overrunning the city, killing people on-screen. The rest of the scenes play out, however, when we cut to RWB, we see Weiss is trying to restrain Ruby from running out there, saying that she could be arrested or killed and Ruby responds with wanting to do the right thing. May interjects and asks why they bother saving Atlas when all they do is laugh at the misfortune of others. She’s basically the “Let Atlas Fall” part of the fanbase.
And this is where RWB give their counter arguments.
Weiss says how, even though the elite are snobby twits, Atlas is not exclusive to just them. May and her were just born with silver spoons in their mouths but that doesn’t excuse them from leaving everyone else on Atlas to die, bringing up how the Mantleans they saved were also on Atlas.
Blake brings up that, yes, Atlas has done bad things in the past, but so did every Kingdom at one point or another, bringing up Mantle’s role in the Great War, so to say that Atlas deserves to burn is to basically say Mantle deserves to burn.
Ruby then uses her “there are no sides” bit, but also blurts out that the whole situation was her fault and that she’s at the very least trying to fix it. And that starts by heading straight to the Whale and beating Salem herself.
The whale scene plays out the same, as does RJY’s scene right up until they plan to blow up the Whale. Yang and Jaune argue against it while Ren vouches for Atlas, saying how this may be the only chance they have at beating Salem, proposing to Winter to go ahead into the whale to scout it. This leads to the argument about replacing Oscar which pisses Ren something fierce as he finally drops the Pyrrha bomb on their ass.
“You say that like we haven’t lost a team mate before!” Boom. In a flash of light, Ren could see clearly. While muted colors were around him, he can see the petals around everyone. Jaune has blue petals, Yang has red petals, and Harriet has burning crimson petals. He could hear what each petal represents. He hears crying when he sees blue, he hears screaming when he sees red, when looking at Winter, he hears a bunch of different things as he sees multi-colored petals.
He sees that most of the Ace Ops don’t have a consistent feeling. Not even Vine and Elm, who he can’t help but see himself and Nora in their places. Then he looks to his own petals. Pure white as he hears exhaling: calmness. He’s reached a zen state, making peace with what he had felt in Volume 7: A desire to stop Salem and prevent what happened to him and Nora from happening to other people.
Hopefully that gives a slightly better explanation at what his Semblance does without directly telling the audience. However, he doesn’t use this to basically read the script and tell the audience what people feel because, reading the dialogue, it just feels forced. “You’re going to be a good guy because I have magic petal seeing powers!” Instead, he plays therapist.
“I understand why you think people are replaceable. I guess it comes with the territory of being in the army.” “If you can’t even gauge what your partner is feeling, you can’t work as a full team.” “What did you hope to accomplish when you joined the Ace Ops?” “Who are you trying to prove yourself to?”
I feel like that’s a lot more in character for Ren. As for Winter, she doesn’t go “I outrank you” but rather appeals to Harriet’s blood thirsty nature by saying that they’re basically sentencing them to a trial by Grimm, even tricking Harriet into agreeing that, should they survive and free Oscar, that they’d be let go, kinda playing into how she’s the Hare.
Back at the manor, Weiss gets ready to accompany Ruby. Willow approaches her and they have a small chat about what to do now that Jacques is arrested. Willow brings up that Jacques was promptly fired from the SDC due to his treason and, as a result, his previous rulings are called into question, including stripping Weiss of her title. She lowkey implies that Weiss should return and become the proper heiress to the SDC once more, even resisting the lure of the bottle to prove that they can make it right.
Weiss, however, looks to Ruby and Blake getting ready, then says to her “thanks, but… I think I’d rather be a team player than a team leader.” The two have a small, proper mother-daughter bond before BOOM!
It’s Penny, and she says that she’s sorry.
And that’ll wrap up this half of the rewrite. There are a lot of unaltered or even minor altered stuff, I know, but the front half of Volume 8 was alright to say the least. I think the back half of Volume 8 will be where major changes for this rewrite will happen. So, tune in for part 2.

My review of the Slender Man movie. It was bad. *SPOILERS*
Before I begin my review please enjoy this list of alternative things this movie could have been called that I made while watching:
~Slender Man- The face remover
~Slender Man- The cock blocker
~Inception
~The Mist
~Doctor Octopus Returns
The following are notes that I wrote down while watching the movie.
~
The teen conversations at the beginning of the movie are too awkward to be real life awkward conversations and it was one of the most uncomfortable parts of the movie.
For whatever reason when the girls all got together for a sleepover they thought it would be funny for them to add in a seen of them talking about porn and it too came off as awkward and weird.
They did such a generic and poor job of introducing Slender Man and honestly if I were him I would have been offended.
The movie uses a lot of rapidly flashing imagery and it just comes off as really tacky. The only one I didn’t mind was the last one.
Before the first girl goes missing her friends notice that something is wrong with her. She barely says that she’s fine and then they just keep walking. I can not think of a single real life situation where if your friend was that out of it that you would just be like “eh whatever” especially not on a school field trip. THEY DONT EVEN GLANCE BACK AND JUST SEE HER STANDING THERE! They should have noticed she was missing. Smh.
Drunk father of the missing girl (Katie) breaks into Hallie’s house and Hallie somehow thinks he’s Slender so she runs upstairs and hides and thinking this will scare Slender away she yells at him that she called the police. ??????? Then the guy starts talking and she just opens the door and talks to her friend’s obviously drunk father normally until he attacks her and she just slams him into a lamp. Guy gets arrested and released in the same day apparently BECAUSE
The group of girls decide to just flip the script and break into that guys house to go through their missing friend’s stuff. This scene upset me because they basically had one girl take advantage of a sad, grieving, drunk father.
They see videos that are real “proof” that Slender is real and they look just like the made at home stuff you can find all over youtube but they just go “oh my god.. it’s him!!”
A girl that had been communicating with Katie the night before she goes missing gets into contact with another girl, Wren, and Wren just believes everything this girl says, no questions asked.
“Keep your blindfolds on!” (to be safe because they were doing some kind of ritual to get their friend back???) Second girl that gets affected Chloe just straight up disobeys that and gets fucked up so the other two friends just proceed to scream at her for it.
There’s a scene where Slender breaks into Chloe’s house and chokes her and to remember that scene I apparently just wrote down “Choke me daddy”. There’s also a scene where he just caresses one of the girls faces.
In the same scene as the face caressing he like makes her hallucinate I guess and honestly it just made her surroundings look like a distortion room you’d see at a carnival or fair.
They made Slendy look hella curvy in one of those scenes ngl.
Most iconic quote of the movie goes to Wren calling the guy Hallie is going on a date with “Abercrombie Tom”.
The hospital in the movie just looks so unrealistic and uncomfortable. And like I understand it’s a horror movie but I feel like you can make a normal hospital scary but no they decided to film in a hospital that looks like it was probably built 200 years ago.
Biggest plot twist of the movie was that Wren ended up dragging Hallie’s little sister into all of this hot mess.
Ha psych just kidding even bigger plot twist was that her little sister apparently asked to be involved which makes literally no sense.
Number one Slender Man defense strategy? Locking doors. Used twice, did nothing both times.
Slender Man can apparently: Turn into a mist, Use his tendrils like a spider or doctor octopus, and he can also apparently turn into a tree and absorb people into him. What a great way to combat deforestation.
This movie completely deserved the 6% it has on rotten tomatoes. Slender has so little screentime that the movie shouldn’t even be called Slender Man. Honestly it should be called “Dumb teens making dumb mistakes for an hour and thirty minutes” because that’s what it is.

In Port Charles, New York, there was never a large amount of time without someone having a near death experience, death, or traumatic event.
Michael and Willow had been pretty fortunate, ever since they got married the only bad thing that had happened was Wiley being kidnapped and they had all recovered from that, mainly. Granted, they still checked on him twice a night, but it didn't matter. Everyone was healing and the pair were trying desperately to tell each other what they felt without actually saying the words.
So it seemed it was time for them to deal with a traumatic event, according to whatever controls what happens with people in this town.
Whatever controls these people's lives decides to make them get caught up in a gunfight, where Willow was about to get shot. She had been kidnapped hours before and was being used as a pawn in a scam Cyrus had concocted against Sonny. He knew Sonny cared about Michael's family, but that he couldn't get Michael himself or he'd be killed.
When Jason and Sonny fired their guns at Cyrus and his guys, they'd fired back at a tied up, scared Willow. Michael jumped in front of them, his own gun firing as he was shot in the chest. The bullet just grazed Willow, and though she was in intense pain, the worst she'd ever felt, her first concern was Michael. He needed medical attention immediately, or else he'd die.
That brings us to the present, where Willow got shot in the shoulder and Michael's still in surgery to try and save his life. When they'd had her sign something earlier for it, a medical form she didn't know quite the details of, it had really set in. Michael could be dead because he was trying to save her life. Willow's bullet had been a through and through wound; they were able to get her all taken care of quickly. She's bandaged and traumatized, but fine. Michael, on the other hand, could be bleeding out on an operating table for all she knows. He got shot in the chest and the doctors think it's in an artery.
There are no words to describe how she felt, finding out that her husband had a large chance of death. Cyrus, stupid Cyrus and his mob games he had to play with Sonny. Stupid, stupid Sonny. If he wasn't in the damn mob, Willow never would've been kidnapped and Michael never would've been shot. He wouldn't be fighting for his life on an operating table right now, trying not to die. This was Sonny's fault as much as it was Cyrus's.
Sonny enters her room cautiously. "Willow, I'm so sorry you got caught up in all this. You never should have been involved in this situation in the first place and I have no clue why you were even on Cyrus's radar in the first place."
"I think that you should know damn well why I was shot, Sonny! The same reason Michael was, because you're in some territory fight with him. You're lucky Carly didn't get shot or another innocent bystander in your fight with him. Your mob war is fine, but I don't want anything to do with it. I married Michael, and I knew that it meant I was marrying into a mob family with you being his dad and all, but I didn't expect this! Your son is fighting for his life on an operating table right now because of you! I got shot because of you! My son could be in danger or on the radar of a known mobster right now because of you and your actions!" Willow angrily shouts at him.
The mobster is confused before he responds, "Don't you think I know that, Willow? Don't you think I feel terrible about my son having to fight for his life because of me again? I'm not a monster, despite you apparently seeing me as one. This life- it's not what I ever thought my life would be. In some ways, it's so much better, but in others, it's terrible. I don't know how you got to be involved in this, or if Wiley's on their radar, but my guys will take care of it."
"Take care of it meaning you're going to put us on house arrest like you did your entire family because you can't control the mob wars you start? Or maybe we'll have a guard following us everywhere we go like Joss. I'm sure I could get some pointers from her about how to live your life with a guard following you," she fires back, heart racing and angry.
"My family means everything to me. I-I would never do something that I thought could put my family in danger. I'm having one of my guys check right now and see if Wiley's on their radar. They're gone, the bad guys. No one is hurting any of you because you're all good people. Michael's the former head of ELQ and lives at the Quartermaine mansion, so I don't know if he was on their radar because of his last name, but I also don't know why you're the one they took. If they wanted to kidnap someone, Michael probably would've been easier to than you were," Sonny ponders, clearly apologetic about his actions.
Thinking for a moment, Willow breathes deeply, wincing slightly. "I'm sorry I blew up, but I'm anxious right now. I mean, my husband is on the operating table. Not exactly a great thing for me, or Wiley. I also got shot, which isn't exactly a fun experience. Add in the kidnapping, I'm pretty sure that there's such a high amount of adrenaline in my system right now I could be having a panic attack."
Jason enters the room with Sam and Dante. "How you holding up?"
"Shot, kidnapped, angry, scared, traumatized. I'm wondering, why did they pick to come after me? Sure, Cyrus and all them know I'm married to Michael, that's not old news, but if they wanted to get mad at Sonny, why not take one of his kids?" Willow asks, trying to distract herself from the fact that her husband could be bleeding out right now and that she's in a hospital bed with a gun wound.
"Well, Michael and I are adults. We've dealt with this stuff before, it'd be harder to just kidnap us. Avery is at Ava's, and they don't want to mess with Julian or Nikolas. Donna's got so much security around her, it'd be near impossible to, and Kristina would make an absolutely terrible hostage. Joss has a guard following her, and would also be a bad hostage. All of us wouldn't be good targets to kidnap, and so there could be the argument he could have taken one of Jason's kids, but they're all innocent in everything and Jason would go ballistic. It just wouldn't make sense. You, however, are new to this life, married to a Corinthos, have a child with one, and don't really seem like you've been kidnapped before," Dante explains.
"So I was the easiest target for them to take, pretty much?" Willow asks and they nod.
Sam speaks up now, "It makes sense that if they wanted Michael, they'd take you. Wiley's a bad target, considering that there's so much energy put into making sure he's okay at all times. You're his wife and he loves you, so they want to lure him in, they take you. Tell him exactly where to find you, exactly what to do to get you back. Only thing is, they didn't count on Sonny and Jason being there too. So they saw them and got scared. Shot at you since you were still tied up and Michael, being Michael, saved you. They wanted to hurt Sonny and the best way to do that is by hurting his family. You were the easiest target and collateral damage."
Willow sighs, angry and hurt. "So in an effort to hurt Sonny and Jason, they wanted to hurt Michael. They knew that they couldn't take him, so they take me instead and make him come get me and try to kill us both?"
"These people run off of trying to find a soft spot. This one matched for both of them. Carly was probably their second choice, except she's an absolutely terrible hostage and they know it would've been too obvious. If they could kill you and Michael, Sonny lets down his guard because he's grieving and probably raising Wiley. I'm grieving, everyone involved in the business is grieving. They can take over Port Charles. It's unfair and cruel, but true," Jason summarizes to her.
Portia comes into the room then, looking somber. "Is he okay? What-what's happening with Michael?" Willow asks immediately, frantic for news on her husband.
"Willow, the bullet that hit Michael was in one of his arteries. We were able to remove the bullet, but we don't know if he'll survive. The surgery was intense, and the damage he took to his heart was as well. His body, like yours, has faced a huge trauma, but since his was to his heart, we're not comfortable yet with anything," the doctor tells her and the brunette bursts into tears. It's like her heart is slowly cracking and they're dragging out what's happening.
"Portia, just tell it to us straight: What are the odds?" Jason asks, face emotionless.
"Michael has a 50% chance of survival," Portia admits. "The next 24 to 48 hours are going to be crucial to getting more exact odds. Right now, he's not allowed any visitors, but we will be changing that in a few hours. I'm so sorry I don't have better news."
Those are the words it takes for everyone to be crying. Jason, in a rare showing of emotion, looks like he's going to break down. Sam's face says it all: She's heartbroken. Michael's practically a son to the both of them, especially Jason. But Sonny, his face is the truly heartbreaking one. He breaks down right then and there, sitting on the floor of the room and crying. Dante looks shocked, like he's not processing this. "What the hell?" He asks. "Dad, what the hell is it with you and killing my brothers? First Morgan, now Michael?"
"Dante, your brother is still alive. He is in critical condition, but alive. The odds of survival will likely increase after I go to check on him in a few hours," Portia calmly explains as Carly runs into the room, crying.
Carly runs to the space in between Jason and Sonny and asks, "What's wrong with my baby? Why won't they let me see him? Is he alive?"
"Yes, Michael is alive. He was shot in the chest and it got in an artery. The surgical team was able to save him, though he is in critical condition with what I'm predicting is a 50% chance of survival. He will be allowed visitors in a few hours," Portia spiels, everyone understanding it more now and the room more tearful than before. "Carly, if you want, Joss and Dev are more than welcome to stay with Trina and I for the next few days, since I know you and Sonny will be here, and I presume Jax will be as well."
"Thank you, Portia. That would be great if it's not too much trouble," Carly thanks her, tears still streaming down her face.
"Of course," Portia smiles before leaving the room. "Jason, that offer extends to Danny and Scout too."
"That's nice, but they're gonna be staying with Elizabeth and her boys. Thank you for offering," he says solemnly, tears building up in his eyes.
The room has an aura of sadness as everyone processes the information they've been given. Michael has a 50% chance of dying, and a 50% chance of surviving. All because of Sonny's stupid fight with Cyrus. Despite what she may have said, Willow is still beyond upset with Sonny, as is Dante.
"Sonny, you caused this. Not Cyrus, you. By starting that stupid fight with him, you put all of our lives on the line. Now, Michael's fighting for his life in a hospital bed and Willow's been shot too! The only reason we're in this situation is you and your stupid mob war. You're lucky I'm not PCPD anymore, or I'd arrest you for all of your illegal activities and put you behind bars because none of us deserve to have this be our lives!" Dante shouts at his father, angry and needing someone to blame but truthful.
"I know that, Dante! I know that I'm the reason my son could die. I'm the reason Morgan did too, I know. I'm so sorry, Willow, that you got caught up in this because they wanted Michael," Sonny tearfully tells his oldest son.
Willow takes a deep breath, calming her sobs. "I am angry at you, but I know that it's Cyrus's fault I got kidnapped and that Michael and I got shot. Why I was kidnapped, I still don't fully understand, but I can see how badly you feel about this. So I accept your apology, but I can't forgive you for this yet."
Dante breathes, trying to calm himself, as he says, "They took you because Michael loves you and they wanted him to get to Sonny. It's stupid and rude, but the truth."
Love? That four letter word hadn't been said by either of them yet; they were getting annulled for God's sakes!
That would probably be getting put off indefinitely while Willow and him were recovering from their gun shot wounds. It would be easier on everyone because Monica would be there if something bad happened to either of them and Wiley wouldn't have to move around or anything.
Noticing her silence, Sam asks, "You didn't know that?"
"Is it that obvious?" Willow asks, noting that the pain of the wound is starting to go down.
"Yeah," Dante laughs. "It's really obvious. Stupidly obvious, to be honest. You two, I presume, have been in love with each other for at least a few months by now. It's just that neither one of you wants to say it because you're scared you'll ruin your friendship somehow or whatever."
There's a quiet laughter in the room for a few moments before the air turns somber again and tears come back full force. It's evident that all of them are in pain, emotionally and, for Willow, physically.
Several hours later, Willow's entire hospital room is full of people. Maxie, Spinelli, Anna, Finn, Monica, Bobbie, Brook Lynn, Ned, Jax, Joss, Dev, Cam, Elizabeth, Franco, Nina, Lulu, Lucy, even Sasha and Chase are there. A lot of people know Michael, and a lot of them care a lot about him. It warms Willow's heart to see that, to know that the man she loves has so many people who love him and care about him.
Portia comes in the crowded room with Trina, who envelopes Joss in a hug. "Michael can have guests now," Portia tells them, "but only one at a time. He may still be a bit woozy from the anesthesia, if he's even awake. He will likely be confused somewhat and drifting in and out of sleep. Don't talk about anything serious with him, or he'll get more confused."
As she leaves the room, Joss says, "I think Willow should go first. If there's anyone Michael would want to see first, I think it would be her."
Everyone nods their agreement and Elizabeth goes to get Willow a wheelchair. Sitting in the chair is fine, standing and walking isn't. She already hates how much this is slowing her down, considering that she's always been so quick to go and do things. This is pretty much just a shitty situation.
Elizabeth comes back, wheelchair in tow, and Willow moves to get in it, wincing in pain but ignoring that. She's got a husband to see. "You know," she jokes, "Michael and I never had a honeymoon. I guess this is the closest we'll get before our annulment."
"If I hear one more word about that annulment," Carly threatens and Monica agrees.
"I'm not letting you two make this decision, no annulment!" Dante smiles and everyone laughs for a minute except Chase and Sasha, but it's obvious that they mean it.
"Our fans grow," Willow chuckles as Elizabeth wheels her into Michael's room, which isn't far from her own.
"For what it's worth, and not that my opinion has anything to do with your marriage to Michael because it doesn't, you two do make a very good couple in a way I don't think we've seen around here in a while. Again, not my spot, but still, I think you two have some talking to do before you agree to end your marriage," Elizabeth tells her. "Count me as a fan."
Chuckling, the pair go into Michael's room, where the energy is instantly changed to more of a sad, somber energy. After all, he is in a hospital bed, hooked up to a lot of tubes and machines. Willow was lucky, her IV could go with her. Michael's setup is much more complicated.
Willow's wheeled up to his bed before Elizabeth leaves, telling her to just text someone when she needs to get wheeled away again. It's evident Elizabeth can't stand to be in the room much longer.
When she leaves, tears start streaming down Willow's face. This is more difficult than she thought it would be, though she was trying to joke her way through it. Her heart aches seeing him like this, the man she married fighting for his life in a hospital bed. It's heartbreaking, knowing that she's got a chance of him not making it, that he'll die on her. She knows he'll fight like hell to stop it, but at the end of the day, you can't always get what you want.
It's this thought that makes her want to say what she's been feeling, confess like she's in some movie or something. The words have been on her mind for weeks, but she couldn't bring herself to say them because there was a chance he didn't feel the same.
Opening her mouth to speak, Willow notes that only a sob comes out. It's not a pretty sound by any means, if anything it's an ugly one, but it's okay because Michael's still alive. "This, what I feel for you, it's hard to put into words but I'm going to give it my best shot. I fell for you because you're you. That makes no sense, I know, but that's why I fell for you. I fell for you because you're so unapologetically yourself, even when it's causing an issue. I fell for you because I want the whole thing, the stupid little fights and the joking, the love that's always there. I fell for you because when I look into your eyes, I stop thinking. I fell for you because that look you give me, that keeps me up at night trying to figure out what it means. When we kissed, I can still feel it when I go to sleep at night. You, without my knowledge, walked into my heart and just decided to get comfy. Falling in love with you was beyond my control, but I'm okay with it. This- falling for you has been the scariest thing in my life because I'm giving you the power to destroy me. You're destroying me, not knowing if you'll make it or not. It breaks my heart, knowing you could die because of me. I couldn't deal with it if you die. So hang on long enough for us to watch movies while eating a pizza we just bought in a Walmart. Hang on long enough to have stupid pillow fights with me in bed at three am because Wiley's starting school tomorrow and we can't fall asleep. Do it for me, do it for him. Do that for us. I love you, Michael, and I don't see that ending so please, just wake up."
By the end of her beautiful proclamation, Willow's full on crying. Tears are streaming down her cheeks and her heart is broken. Even though he's not dead, Willow just spilled her heart to him. It could be the last thing she ever says to him when he's alive, that she loves him. That thought terrifies her, that he could die and never fully know if he knows she loves him.
"I don't know what it is, but somehow, you can always make me smile even when I'm feeling the worst I've ever felt in my life. Without me even thinking, I can see a future with you. A future full of a couple more kids and happiness. Don't get me wrong, I know romance isn't always happily ever after. But still, I know loving someone the way I love you is so uncommon, especially so quickly. I love you, and I'm going to tell you that because it's true. You deserve to know the truth, and simply put, that's the truth. Those three words that terrified me have been so common in my brain thinking of you. And telling you, it makes me feel relieved. Because you deserve to know these things. At the end of the day, you deserve to know I love you," Willow tearfully tells him. "So you can't die on me, okay? I love you and we haven't even started our story yet, so you've got to survive so we can have our happy ending."
No response from Michael, nothing. His vitals are the same and he looks the exact same too, still great but wounded. He looks frail, lying in that hospital bed.
Maybe her words can't save him. Maybe he's already gone, already left her. It's sad to think about and makes her breakdown, sobs coming from her mouth with tears so plentiful she can't even see anything. She takes his hand, holding it in hers. This, this is the moment in all those movies where he would squeeze her hand, wake up.
Life isn't a move though, she realizes, as she continues speaking. "I get it if you're already gone and your heart's still beating, but selfishly, I want you to wake up. I want you to wake up and we can stop the annulment, fall even more in love. Selfishly, I want a huge love story where we're together for so long that people ask if we're still together and wonder how we are because we've been together so long."
"And so you have to be okay, you have to wake up from this, you have to. I get it if you don't know entirely, or if you don't fully want to, but Wiley and I need you to. Everyone here, and everyone in the waiting room, everyone crowded in my room needs you to wake up. I love you," Willow tearfully reminds him.
She pulls out her phone and texts Elizabeth she's okay to leave the room, that someone else can come in, and within a minute, Carly's in there, staring at her son, equally as heartbroken, if not more, as Willow is. Carly's been through this before; Michael was in a coma for a year and a half at one point. That doesn't mean it's less heartbreaking or easier; if anything, the opposite is true.
"I'm so sorry this is happening to you," Willow says to Carly. "I can't even imagine what you're going through."
"Thank you. I know exactly what you're going through, Willow. Sonny and Jason have been through this enough, I know just how bad it hurts and how worried you are. But Michael's strong, he'll survive this. I have faith he will survive long enough for you both to have a happy family and me to have more grandbabies. Don't even try to say that I'm wrong, because he loves you as well," Carly smiles sadly at her, tears still streaming down her face.
Willow can't help the smile on her face when she hears that. "It's good to know someone's sure of that, because I'm sure as hell not."
Carly laughs, incredulous. "How do you not see it, Willow? He's told me, flat out, that he loves you. It's so obvious that you two love each other that the fact you're both denying it or not thinking about your love for each other is getting annoying."
"I don't know. I guess I just didn't think he loved me back, but I'm going to wait for Elizabeth."
Elizabeth walks in and wheels a teary eyed Willow back to her room. "I take it that he's not up yet?"
"Nope, he's still not up. I spilled my guts to him and he's still asleep or whatever he's doing," Willow explains to her, showing off her lack of medical knowledge.
"Well, I'm sure he'll be up in a few hours, Willow. This is Michael we're talking about, he'll pull through. He always does."
When she says that, the pair have reached the room, which is still crowded with people. Willow gets herself back in bed, despite the pain that causes. After all, it's not like she's going to die getting in bed.
More time passes, and everyone goes into Michael's room until everyone's visited and he's still unconscious. It's heartbreaking, knowing that the longer he takes to wake up, the lower his chances of survival are. Medical odds are terrible sometimes.
Jason goes back into Michael's room, noting that his phone was left there on accident. Willow nods her head, pretending she heard what he said.
When he comes back, there's a huge smile on his face very unlike what you have happen when you find your phone. "Michael's awake," he says.
Tears of sadness are replaced with tears of joy as the room gets a much happier energy. "Can I go see him?" Willow asks, already getting out of bed and into the wheelchair that has been left at her bedside.
"He's asking for you," Jason says, hugging Sam tight to him.
Willow smiles widely as Dante pushes her down the hall. "Please let this make you two say how you feel about each other," he smirks.
"I already have, but I don't know if he heard it," Willow smiles at him.
"Well, sister in law and cousin in law in a completely unconvoluted way, I think he did and know he feels the same so if you two aren't together by the end of this, I will be very upset," Dante jests as they reach Michael's room.
He steers her up to his bedside, as close as she can get, and then leaves the room.
"Willow," Michael says, voice quiet. It's probably because he's just speaking again after major heart surgery.
"I'm right here," Willow smiles, grabbing his hand gently.
She watches as a smile comes across his face and he looks at her with the look he always gives her. "Good. I don't want you leaving me alone in here. This room is kinda creepy and very boring, but you make it happier. You make everything happier. I heard what you said earlier. Well, parts of it. It was beautiful and if I wasn't coming out of an anesthetic because I got shot, I'd probably be able to say something much more beautiful than I'm about to, but I love you. So please stay married to me."
"I would love nothing more than to stay married to you, Michael," Willow tells her husband truthfully. "You scared me for a while there, I was so worried that you'd die on me before we could have our love story."
"Hey, I'm not that bad. I would never die on you and Wiley. But our love story has already begun, because it's been brewing since we met. Now, it's just turning romantic officially," he smiles at his wife. "If you think of it, us getting shot was kind of a great thing because now we're telling each other what we otherwise wouldn't be."
"Thank you for showing up when you did," she thanks him, "and for saving me. I would've died had it not been for your bravery."
"I wasn't being brave, I was so pissed I wanted to kill those bastards but I needed to keep you safe. So I took a bullet to the chest, but it's worth it," Michael explains. "If you died, I would have never forgiven myself. So thank you for being a good hostage to them so that no one actively wanted to kill you until I got there with my dad and Jason."
They both let out a chuckle, though Michael winces in pain a few times. "That wheelchair can't be comfortable for your back, do you want to come up here? There's plenty of room."
"I don't know if Portia would allow that," Willow smirks at him, "but I doubt she'd object too harshly."
Several minutes later, Willow's in the hospital bed next to Michael and they're both fast asleep.

how about "reminders" and "caught singing" for a prompt? :D
okay, I only managed the “reminders” part, but the Wave Hanzo skin happened and more than one person suggested that new tattoo covered up the brand in the Cyberninja skin and then I died
[on AO3]
“Have you ever thought about gettin’ this covered up?”
The words are the first either of them have spoken in some minutes as they lie in bed together, and it takes a moment for them to filter through Hanzo’s drowsy mind. He blinks his eyes open. McCree’s face swims into view, inches away on the next pillow, but McCree’s gaze is somewhere else. It takes another second for Hanzo to register McCree’s fingertips on his shoulder, gently following the lines of the scar tissue there.
Hanzo’s had the brand so long that he often forgets about it, the same way he forgets his tattoo or the clothes he is wearing that day. He still vividly recalls the day he received it, though–precisely ten days after Genji’s apparent death, when the clan had decided he had grieved for too long over a blight on the Shimada name and saw fit to remind him where his true loyalties should lie. He had accepted his punishment with numb resignation, steadfastly refused to make so much as a whimper as the brand seared his skin. That had been the day he decided that the clan would come to an end.
“No,” he says. “It had never occurred to me.”
“Really? You  never wanted it gone?” McCree’s face is mostly passive, but there is a faint crinkle between his brows that Hanzo finds confusing.
“It is not that I want it there. I simply forget about it most days. It is a part of my body like anything else, and I forget about it unless something reminds me.”
McCree looks guilty at that, and he takes back his hand, leaving a cold space on Hanzo’s bicep. “Sorry.”
“Do not be.” McCree still does not look mollified. “Does it bother you?”
“‘Course it does. That thing’s just a mark of ownership. Them actin’ like they owned you.” McCree’s mouth presses into an unhappy line. “But you’re your own man. You haven’t been a part of that in so long. Just seems like an unnecessary reminder. So no, I don’t much like thinkin’ about that.”
Hanzo stares, surprised at McCree’s response. McCree shifts uncomfortably and finally sits up, ruffling his hair with one hand.
“Sorry,” he says again. “Not about me, I know. Just had it on my mind a bit lately.“ Hanzo makes a questioning noise, and McCree continues, albeit with some reluctance, "I dunno, I’ve just been thinkin’ about—how good we got it, I guess. How we got here. And especially you, doing so much in the last year or two. And then there’s that thing.”
Hanzo props himself on his elbows, shifting until he can look down at the old scar. “I do not care for it,” he admits. “But I suppose I never thought it could be removed. It is something that happened, and that is simply how it is.” Endless, like the two dragons chasing each other in a perpetual cycle. “And I suppose I … I do not miss my family, or hold any love for this mark. I am not sure what makes me hesitate.”
“It’s familiar.”
Hanzo blinks. “Yes,” he says quietly. “I suppose that is the word for it.”
“Makes sense. Kinda felt the same way about my old gang tattoo. I did think about getting it removed or covered up here and there, and didn’t.“ He taps his metal left forearm with a finger, smiling wryly. “Got taken care of a different way, anyway.”
Hanzo nods absently. It is a moment before he speaks again. “I am not sure how I would do it, now. It’s far too old for most treatments, and others would just leave a different kind of scar, even with biotics.”
“True.” McCree reaches out and runs his thumb over the scar again, making Hanzo shiver. “What about a tat?”
“You think it could be covered with a tattoo?”
“Maybe. The skin’s not too wrecked. Could make it at least less noticeable, either way.” McCree worries the inside of his lip. “Don’t do somethin’ just because I don’t like it. If you really don’t want to do something—”
Hanzo gives a smile and a shake of his head, covering McCree’s hand with his own over his arm. “It is fine,” he promises. “You are right. I am well overdue to get rid of this thing, and an unapproved tattoo would make my family turn in their graves. Do you have any suggestions?”
McCree smiles and threads his fingers through Hanzo’s. “That depends. Anything you’ve wanted to get before?”
It takes Hanzo some time to decide. Over the next few weeks, he spends his time researching. He is not a prolific artist, but he is capable enough to put together a few sketches that are recognizable enough to show McCree. McCree, for his part, helps look up local tattoo artists and offers his suggestions when asked, but seems to make a point not to interfere too much.
He goes to Genji near the end of the process with a couple of designs, looking for input before he takes it to the artist. Genji is politely interested, at first, until Hanzo confesses the exact reason why he is getting the new tattoo; after that, he goes strangely silent for a long moment.
“I’m glad,” he finally says, his voice sounding tight even behind the mask. It makes Hanzo’s throat feel tight, too. Genji clears his throat and adds, “Although I am not sure this is extreme enough. You need something that would make our father die of shame if he saw it. Maybe some egregiously misspelled English. Or a topless woman.”
Hanzo snorts and snatches the sketches back. “The point is to cover it with something better,”  he reminds him.
“Who says it wouldn’t be?”
Hanzo swats him with the papers.
The artist he ultimately hires isn’t in Gibraltar, but out in Valencia. They have an impressive portfolio, and when Hanzo contacts them with his ideas and the situation, immediately has suggestions. A bit of back-and-forth over email and they have a final design within a couple of weeks, and an opening for a daytime session at the end of the month. Hanzo feels uncharacteristically giddy as he confirms the appointment.
It takes little effort to convince McCree to join him, and together they take off half of a week and take the train out to Valencia. They meet the artist the next day, and it isn’t until they have finished transferring the design to Hanzo’s skin that he feels the first flutter of nerves.
“Well, here’s that,” the artist says. “If everything looks good, I think we can finish it in one session, as long as you tolerate it.”
Hanzo stares at the image in the mirror. The scar is already half-hidden under the outlines of the transferred design, difficult to distinguish under the curved lines of the koi’s body, broken up by the arcs of ocean waves and the delicate twists of lotus petals. A knot loosens in his chest that he hadn’t been aware still existed, unraveling and drifting apart.
The artist steps away to grab the last of their supplies. McCree gives Hanzo’s wrist a gentle squeeze as he leansin. “Think I’m gonna step out for a sec,” he murmurs. “Grab us something to eat before we’re here for the next seven h—”
Hanzo gets his free hand around the back of McCree’s neck and pulls him down and into a kiss. It’s not the most graceful and McCree makes a surprised noise against his mouth, but he still melts into it all the same
“Thank you,” Hanzo murmurs when they part.
McCree blinks at him slowly, heavy-lidded and a little dazed. He manages to give a crooked smile. “It’s just lunch, honeybee,” he says, but they both know he understood just fine.
The plastic wrap and red, angry skin surrounding it make it hard to take a photo of the finished product. Hanzo tries for several minutes and even enlists McCree’s help, but eventually has to give up. Thanks to the advancements in medicine and convenient over-the-counter topicals, the whole thing will heal much faster than his sleeve did all those years ago–he can wait a couple of days.
The old Shimada brand is barely visible now, well obscured under the dark green-blue of the waves and the gradients of the koi’s scales. He can still feel it if he runs his fingers over the plastic, but otherwise, it might as well not be there at all.
“They did a real good job,” McCree says, stepping up behind Hanzo at the bathroom mirror. He wraps his arms around Hanzo’s middle and drops his chin on his shoulder, looking at their shared reflection.
“Yes,” Hanzo agrees. “I’m very happy with the work.”
“How’s it feel gettin’ that covered up?”
Hanzo studies their shared reflection for a long moment. His eye inevitably drifts back to the new tattoo: a mask to hide the last of his disastrous past, but a memorial in its own right. Not only a symbol of growth, but also a reminder of the one who brought him here and the happiness he feels in this moment.
He smiles and leans back into McCree’s warm, solid chest. “It feels good.”

lily liveblogs “terminator: dark fate”, part 3
Sarah Connor knows how to make an entrance.
(parts one and two)
This is in the trailer, and it's just as epic here. The focus on her boots. Then rising up to her face--complete with bulletproof vest, shades, and GIANT GUN as she opens fire. YASSSS, MY QUEEN.
The human-looking part of the Rev-9 runs for Dani but Sarah shoots him off the bridge before he can get her, then drops the gun, switches to AN EVEN BIGGER GUN and fires at the skeleton who is doing that same inhuman back arch to lurch to its feet, and he goes flying in an explosion and lies still. Then she tosses THAT gun away, and goes to peer over the edge for the first half, where the Rev-9 is impaled and twitching and already regenerating. Then she tosses the grenade over the edge, says "I'll be back," in a badass monotone and walks away as Grace registers wtf just happened and pulls Dani away from the explosion, shielding her with her body.
Sarah pulls out YET ANOTHER GUN as the grenade explodes, and keeps on walking without breaking stride. FUCK YEAH.
"Who the fuck is that?" Dani rightly asks.
"I don't know," says Grace, who is hyperventilating and red in the face, and quite deservedly tired. "But we have to move!" And she runs to pick up Sarah's discarded gun and steals her SUV. I’M HOWLING.
Dani is like, "maybe we shouldn't steal this scary woman's car," and Grace is like, "gtfo or die," and they drive away. Sarah is about to dispatch the REV-9, but sees them driving and stalks off in a huff as the REV-9 re-congeals out of the fire.
(I honestly wonder what would have happened if Sarah had taken the time to dispatch the REV-9 ‘properly’ but then this movie would be very, very short, so I’ll give it a pass.)
Grace is dehydrated. Dani's have a breakdown. Grace breaks the news that her father is dead. "It needs physical contact to copy people and they don't survive." Is that an inherent part of the process?? I don't think so, because the T-1000 copied Sarah and she was fine, it's just because they usually KILL THEM AFTERWARDS, it's not a REQUIREMENT or anything. But I give Grace a pass for not going into the details because Dani is already traumatized enough.
The skeleton stalks down the highway past a dude who looks SO CONFUSED while EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE and the fleshy-looking part starts walking in front of the skeleton and then they MERGE holy SHIT THAT'S CREEPY and there's STILL NO EXPRESSION on his face OH MY GOD.
Grace starts crashing (physically), which is bad because she's driving, so they almost crash for real. Grace faints, so Dani has to drive, oh, wait she can't, yep that ended badly. Dani stalks off to go to the police, while Grace is SO RED and can barely walk, until Grace explains that’s such a bad idea, and all the cops will die. She ends up putting Grace in the back seat and says she'll figure out the driving bit, FUCK YEAH. did I mention I love her?
Grace robs a pharmacy for her meds, much to Dani's surprise and chagrin. Grace collapses, so Dani has to grab the gun before anybody else can and finish the job to get them out. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME DANI HAS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW REAL AGENCY*, AND SHE MAKES THE CHOICE TO SIDE WITH GRACE INSTEAD OF LETTING THE AUTHORITIES TAKE HER AWAY. The assistant helps her haul Grace out, and Dani makes a split second decision to trust him which turns out to be justified, because he doesn't try to hurt them.
[[*ok, technically, she showed agency before when she made the decision not to go to the cops, but there’s a big difference between that scene and pulling a fucking gun on innocent people during a robbery. And she only has like a second to decide if she’s gonna do it or not, vs. the conscious deliberation in the previous scene. This is the moment where Dani’s all-in, the moment where there’s no going back.]]
Sarah Connor is waiting for them outside. FUCK YEAH. and she is PISSED. She takes Dani's gun -- "give me that before you hurt yourself," as Dani just fucking STARES.LEGEND.
Cut to them driving through town with Grace sprawled in the backseat with her head in Dani's lap as Sarah drives, and her sunglasses are reflected in the rearview mirror. Dani claims she's just Dani... a nobody, and Sarah says she's got to be somebody for them to send whatever Grace is to protect her. Then she asks for Dani's phone and tosses it out the window.I cannot believe Dani didn’t see that one coming, but she’s had a long day.
Cut to a hotel room, dropping ice cubes on Grace, like you do. "We should have done this in the bathtub," Dani complains. "Have you SEEN the bathtub?" Sarah retorts. Also: a fuck-ton of Lay's potato chips.
"I keep my cell phone in a chip bag. The foil blocks the GPS so they can't track me." CHIP BAG. THE PUN HERE.
"I'm wanted in a couple states," Sarah admits. "Fifty, actually." (she means US, I assume, I doubt she's a wanted felon in Mexico, but...).
"Why ten bags?"
"Because I really like potato chips." I'M HOWLING.
(are there costcos in Mexico? Just saying.)
Dani grieves over how her father and brother will die unmourned and unburied and you can see the blankness on Sarah's face, how that's so far removed from anything she's ever known for decades. "Funerals don't help them and goodbyes don't help you. You just have to learn to live with it."
Which is a) the truest advice Sarah knows, and b) SO FUCKING SAD THAT IT'S COME TO THIS OH MY GOODDDDDDD.
Sarah pumping Grace with meds and just figuring it will all work out is so in character, and also a nice contrast to her first introduction to battlefield medicine under the bridge in T1. How far she’s come...
Time for a flashback from the future while Grace is unconscious and dreaming!!
God the future war scenes are so bleak and awful and barren and boring to me I can't believe people want a whole film like this, especially when we already know that humans win and the Commander can’t die, so there’s not a lot to milk for suspense.
The Rev-7 bursting out of another Rev-7 is so fucking CREEPY I can't even--
Hey, Grace is rescued and I love the medic (a black lady!) and Grace volunteers to be an augment! I legit thought she was going to say "tribute," lol.
...I don't understand how augmentation works, though. How can they have surgery so good and so clean when everything else is rubble? Are they literally cutting apart Terminators and wiring them into Grace? WHERE DO THEY GET THE PARTS?? I WANT TO KNOW and I don't think this movie's going to explain.
Sarah wakes up Grace by pointing a gun at her and gets disarmed, having locked Dani out of the room, but Grace lets her back in. Sarah's look is withering: "Sometimes, mommies and daddies have to have grown-up discussions." I'M HOWLING. EVERYTHING LINDA HAMILTON SAYS IN THIS MOVIE IS GOLD. Also, I like how neither Dani nor Grace denies this. Maybe they’re just too stunned? I know I would be.
(also notice how Sarah’s not smoking?? I guess potato chips are the new cigarettes)
Sarah explains some things. Her expression when Grace says she's never heard of Skynet--"Good."--is PRICELESS.
"Where's your son now?" OW OW OW OW OH MY HEART
"I hunt Terminators." RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINNNNNNNNNE AAHHHHH "And I drink til I black out."
Oh, Sarah. I'm so sorry. so so so sorry.
I'll have more things to say about the digital trail later, so this is just a placeholder for now.
That moment where Sarah puts her shades on. Hot damn. Interview and openness OVER indeed.
Grace threatens Sarah, who is unimpressed. "Great! I drive." DRIVING AS A METAPHOR, Y'ALL.
"Legion...an AI built for cyber warfare."
I've seen people pissed that Skynet was erased and replaced by a similar-but-different AI and maybe it's because I love parallel universes and AUs so much, or maybe it's because the Terminator movies represent our relationship with and fears of technology, but I think this was a valid choice and I approve. Because, as Sarah points out, "Those assholes never learn." No. No, we don't.
Sarah pulls off her shades to admit she gets texts from someone she doesn't know, WHICH IS FURTHER PROOF THAT THE SUNGLASSES REPRESENT SHIELDING FROM EMOTIONS/VULNERABILITY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Grace hacking Sarah's phone -- "future shit"-- is hilarious, thank you very much, and I love that the PHONE CONTINUES TO BE A TRACKING DEVICE THROUGH ALL THREE FILMS BUT FOR ENTIRELY DIFFERENT REASONS. But won't the gov't/terminator/somebody find her through it now that it's out of the chip bag??? How is she getting texts if her phone is always in a chip bag? When is it safe for her to take it out??
Grace has tattoos on her body - "in case I can't remember shit" AHHAHAHHAHAHA, that's hilarious.
Sarah was on America's Most Wanted?? I bet she was. She should add that to her resume, lol.
Ohhh, that's clever that the same plot device gets them to both Carl and Sarah. I like it.
crossing the border is not this easy, but I don't think American audiences can handle that level of realism, and this isn't that kind of film, so... *shrugs*
The Rev-9 is in the data center and it's so creepy. All he has to do is plunge his hands into the cables, and... facial recognition software does the rest. (I don’t think it’s ever stated directly, but I headcanon that LEGION IS A ROGUE AI MEANT TO CONTROL PEOPLE BASED ON FACIAL RECOGNITION SOFTWARE, so it's totally in keeping with its nature.)
On the train, Sarah is eating potato chips. LOVE IT. I don't even like potato chips, per se, but it's a fun character detail and more culturally acceptable than smoking in films these days (the irony!)
flashback to bby!Grace seeing the plane crash and I'm all like I'VE SEEN THE TRAILER, I KNOW THAT'S CHEKHOV'S FLIGHT 3000 TO FORESHADOWING, more plane crashes are definitely coming.
Because the Terminator films reflect our own fears back on us, it's interesting to see how those fears have changed. Now the end of the world is more complex - technology suddenly going dead, then launching nukes and EMPs, THEN world war - fighting over food with humans WHILE being hunted by Legion. It's the same in outline and yet different from Skynet's quick and dirty nuclear war.
Sarah interjects to guess the leader of the Resistance is Dani's son, which is a) a reasonable guess under the circumstances and given the history of this franchise, and b) political commentary about what many Americans fear, namely non-white "Mexican" (as a catch-all term for anybody brown) immigrants and their children coming into their country. It also makes the inevitable subversion--that DANI is the leader, not some man--so much more pointed when it comes, as the franchise critiques ITSELF. still, I kinda wish they dealt with that here, instead of later, though.
Sarah also makes the "Mother Mary" comparison, which is so funny given the obvious overtones to her own son (his initials are J.C.!) and lampshading the fact this is the first time in-universe that anyone has mentioned the parallels.
Now they're off the train and in a truck, with Dani's head in Grace's lap, yay parallels. Poor Sarah is probably wishing Kyle had been augmented, then maybe he could be there too (why is Michael Biehn not in this movie?? sob).
I'm not sure how the REV-9 just up and assumes they're going to Laredo just because that's where the train goes, especially since they then jump off the train for this... side-quest? What's up with that?? Does the train not go to the border?
Oh, okay, this is where her uncle lives. Dani tries telling him the truth. It goes poorly. Grace slices a fly in half. Wow.
It's nice to see a black guy and an Asian dude on the border, but my relief lasts for ten seconds because they get sliced up by the Rev-9 posing as a woman of color, oi...
still creepy when he merges with the machine, and how does he know what he's looking for on the panopticon? can drones see faces at that distance? Can he?? I'm so confused.
Of course he tells the Border Patrol that Grace, Dani, and Sarah are members of a drug cartel and sets the authorities after them...
Of course there's a door underneath the wall. of course there is. Random dude goes first, which means he is dead meat. Oh, there was an ambush, but Dani makes the decision they're going to surrender, so I guess no one's dying here?
Sarah is lying to the authorities about being related to Grace, because of her medical condition. Good for her.
Grace senses the drone about to kill Dani and moves to save her! I guess it's going to take the Rev-9 a while to figure out she's not dead?
Dani is in detention and sounds like a crazy person trying to explain the truth. By the way, SETTING THIS SCENE AT THE BORDER CROSSING IS HELL OF A POLITICAL STATEMENT, FYI.
Grace is getting medical care, and they find her drugs. "Nice body search, fellas." Of course, they figure out she's an augment...is this going to influence the future in the same way that Cyberdyne’s discovery of the T1′s head and arm influenced Skynet??
Sarah and the other dude who got picked up with them have a plan. Good.  Let the ass-kicking begin.

Supernatural gifts
Have you been able to witness any supernatural stuff lately? For most of my life this stuff which I believe seems like it should simply be everywhere, but doesn't seem to be anywhere! And to top things off, the darkness has been getting bigger and deeper.
Scripture says to seek ye first the kingdom of God, and I agree we should be seeking with all our strength to do that! What is God's kingdom?! We hear this all the time, but is it just a place up in heaven we should be remembering to keep our eyes on? The prize, the goal, the promise we are so excited to know about. Our hope, our passion, and what makes God so cool! But is that really what that means?! Maybe we made up to this next plateau and left something down below...
The kingdom of God is more than just our hope, or motivation, it is also described in the old testament, and is a real way of life, culture if you will. Adonai, the sovereign Lord, has a kingdom with a schedule that uses his superior view of reality to help us mentally and emotionally. It is what the Bible is all about! After years and years of church aren't you compelled to think there is something that doesn't add up?
One of the biggest parts of a kingdom, is that the king makes the rules and that includes the schedule. God appointed the Sun and Moon to be signs for the seasons, and he also asked for us to celebrate seven feasts with their very own topics of focus.
Chanukah, also known as the festival of lights, is one of the coolest holidays the Jewish people came up with! During the Maccabean war, the temple was claimed by heathens who defiled the temple by sacrificing pigs in it! The Jews later recaptured the temple but they were left with only one jar of holy oil. That oil was to keep the temple sacred by burning at all times... The oil survived eight days!! While the priests made new oil, and one jar usually only lasted one day. It was a miracle, and so often we need to be reminded of this miracle. It is all about trusting in the Lord! Right in the heart of the depression that sets in during the cold season too! The forces of darkness have removed the story of Maccabees from most non-catholic Bible's. The festival of lights was mentioned in the Gospel, and I am sure Jesus was celebrating it as well!
Here in the USA we relate to "for the people by the people", but God had a strict set of traditions that we were supposed to keep forever. Did you realize that Paul said that they should not burden the gentiles with a bunch of rules. Circumcision and other things were considered too heavy and they decided to leave them out for the new believers because they did not have enough of the established understanding of the laws and the significance. I know what you are thinking Jesus is the new covenant and the old covenant doesn't matter anymore, but that isn't the words that were used by Jesus! Jesus came to fulfill, not abolish the law, and the big leaders agreed.
The Puritan's that came on the Mayflower celebrated the Passover, and the festival of lights, there is a feast of booths and first fruits, there is also the day of atonement, the feast of trumpets, the day of Pentecost, and unleavened bread! God asked us to celebrate the feasts he created for us for a reason! He wants us to be in the right season to best supplement the our minds with the seasons and teachings together for our moods sake!
Did you know the moon affects our bioenergy? Statistics show trends in criminal activity due to the phases of the moon. Are you aware elctromagnetic chaos can affect your thinking? It does it to 🐝... They will lose their ability to fly, by frequenting a signal at a steady natural rate to flap their wings, inside areas where there is Wi-Fi! The moon is changing the electro magnetic fields as it moves in line with the sun to a stronger pull to something else when it battles the sun for the pull on the other side... I am compelled to add that Nickola Tesla called our planet a natural Tesla Coil. It is of significance because all of this stuff has general bearing in our mental positioning and mood to easily access certain parts of our mind... And God controls the positioning of the heavens and the rate they revolve. Sometimes there is a lunar month of 27 days and others it is up to 29.
It seems there is a lot of darkness that has been getting stronger and a lack of supernatural power in the world I grew up in. I cannot speak for you but I am pretty sure that seems to be the case for my guess is 90% of the community of believers. My recommendation is that we should pay attention to the scripture! God built a beautiful future for us, but we have got to be ready to grow up and learn and obey, as the gentiles would have had the opportunity to after they got enough education. A foster or orphan is a good analogy of this.
We are born into sin and this is something we must confront. Whether or not we think there is no way our parents or their parents or their parents could have been dumb or ignorant to this stuff... The Bible speaks for itself and we must let it tell us the truth.
Jeremiah 10 clearly depicts a Christmas tree as being something a Christian should not learn to do! Ponder upon the symbolic nature of the Christmas tree. What did the Christmas tree represent to begin with? If you ask me it is a mockery of life. The tree is cut down, one is wasting a perfectly good life force to dress it up for a funeral. It is laden with tinsel and everybody loves it, except someone can have a little secret. A nice laugh about the tree's doom. God is not one to laugh about destruction, that grieves him. He has done his best to purchase our salvation. It is a mockery of the truth, because we are blessed so immensely, and death is but only a moment on a short of moments that should not be dwelt upon. The tree is part of a bitter moment.
I have a feeling that God will answer prayers to those who will move into his kingdom, to live under his rules and follow his schedule. If we abide in the schedule he created for us, we are going to increase his love for us. He set a standard and if you don't show up you aren't going to be blessed. Scripture says the gate is narrow, I am very persuaded that the lunar Jewish calendar the feasts and original schedule for the Jews was and still are permanent pieces of God's kingdom. If we start using the edge we have in God's will, the best advice we can have, then we might start to impress the Lord, as we choose his will and ways over our own ideas of how life "goes"!
If you are like me you want to impress the Lord and do his will. So keep making sure you are on the good dirt by choosing him and his ways! The Lord is good to us he will provide a way. Trust in him and lean not on your own understanding!
So what can we do? Let's PRAY: Dear Lord you are the king of my schedule. You own each second of my life. Thank you for being so passionate for me! I need every foothold I can get. Help me find a way to your kingdom grace. Bring people into my life that will be open to your schedule. Help me resolve the issues I must struggle with in my worklife. Please forgive me of my anxiety about work and help me forgive those who will sin against me. Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from this evil. For yours is; the kingdom, the power, and the GLORY forever and ever, Amen!
Please do not look down on your pastors. Do not argue about these things but gently encourage others to see the truth. Hold a conference outside a library and explain to others what the lunar calendar is and the feasts of the Lord. Start with what you can handle, share your findings! We have to get the word out and others will start to soften or even become interested in the beautiful ways of the Lord!
I hope you will contact me with any questions... I would love to pass on some information I have learned to you. May you be blessed by our Creator and LORD!

I dreamed today that we were shooting a Chinese film with my college friends. We were filming an important historical event, with a twist of fiction.
Behind the camera, a small group of the cast and crew gathered to rest together. We were in a pavilion, and there were curious passersby who wanted to ask about our film.
One of them brought up that the period we're filming is controversial. The group was having awkward responses, so I spoke out: "If I could go back in time, there's a lot I would like to do differently." And the group agreed.
During a peaceful time off the set, we were in a convenience store trying out different instant noodles. Outside, the main actor was shot, and so was the female lead.
As we were taking in the shock, I went to a northern area and there was a temple. There, I saw the main actor's best friend, and he shot me but I was only hit on the shoulder. I told the police authority in that area that he's the suspect who shot the main actor. The police told me that the main actor survived, and it's only the girl who died.
I was given a bit of time to grieve. I then remembered that both the male and female leads were from a boy and girl group, respectively, and both contained 7 members. That day was also 7/7. I then proposed that they should either add or remove members because 7 is unlucky...
I moved out of the temple to write a Chinese phrase of vengeance in English letters on a beam of a bridge. The reference I was copying it from had wolves and arrows on the logo, so I ended up including those as well, but I tried to remove them later to make the text more visible.
For some reason, I found that the fem lead was there with my college friend Gege. She was grieving the actor's death. One of my other college friends then appeared, saying that she's been wanting to play a lead role. But I softly reminded her that she might not be allowed, because she's not Chinese herself, and the Chinese might not appreciate it.
Later, we were in a closed room, and someone was banging on our door. I stopped it from being opened, and the fem lead checked the screen door to see who it is. She said it's fine so I let her enter. It was a female knight in red and orange mechanical armor.
We later left and found ourselves in a grocery aisle, surrounded by mooks. In the back door, there was a fat man with shades, emerging from a small tank with a robot design. I ran back inside to say that I don't know him and he seems evil, though he seemed familiar in my mind.
Later, we fought the mooks. The armor girl easily ran through them with her body.
I wish I could continue that dream...

Before the Storm:  A Reaction Post
I just finished binge-reading the latest WoW novel, and I have thoughts.  Quite a few of them, actually.  So here goes.
Short non-spoilery version:   Game tie-in novels are never going to be high literature, but for what it was, I really enjoyed this book.  I know Golden’s name has been mud around this neck of the internet lately, so this probably isn’t a popular opinion.  The contrast between Anduin and Sylvanas as leaders--and as people--was interesting to see, and the questions about how the living and the undead can (or should) interact were incredibly poignant.  There was only one significant lore development (at the very end, regarding a new variety of undead) that is easy to catch up on via a quick summary, so it’s not a mandatory read to understand Battle For Azeroth.  But as a character study and a fleshing-out of the world and how various issues stand going into the new expansion, it was a enjoyable read.  If you’re a fan of Anduin, Sylvanas, Genn, Calia, or goblins, definitely check it out.
Spoilers (as well as a mention of real-life death/grief) below.
I think sometimes fandom marinates in an echo chamber and, because of how seldom new canon material is released, we assume that because Blizzard isn’t releasing a weekly short story they’re letting unresolved plot threads dangle and fester.  Sometimes they do, granted, but there were an awful lot of things addressed (or at least mentioned) in this book that fandom has been wondering/worrying/complaining/speculating about:
The leadership void among the Darkspear.  The impact of losing so many soldiers and supplies in the war with the Legion.  What’s been going on in the Undercity while Sylvanas is away doing Warchief stuff.  The fact that none of the Horde leaders have families.  The reaction of the Cenarion Circle to their losses in Silithus.  The unpopularity of Gallywix among his own people.  The confusion and cross-faction misunderstandings about the disastrous battle of the Broken Shore.  The tension and lost trust after Genn Greymane and Admiral Rogers’ shenanigans at the start of Stormheim’s storyline.  Moira’s son not being a baby anymore.  The unresolved issues between Moira and Magni.  Velen’s grief over his son.  The fact that Tess and Mia Greymane exist.  Theramore.  Calia’s claim to the throne of Lordaeron.  The long-lasting impact of the Cataclysm.  The mixed opinions among the Horde about the way the goblins terraformed Azshara.  Kalec and Jaina’s relationship.  Lore from the priest order hall.  And yes, the fact that Anduin needs an heir.
I’m not saying all these things are settled or developed, or handled in ways I necessarily agree with, but it’s good to be reminded that Blizzard hasn’t forgotten about any of these elements.  (Wrathion, on the other hand...  Sigh.  Don’t get me started.  Suffice it to say he’s not even alluded to in the book.  Onyxia does get a passing mention in relation to how her scheming impacted the Wrynns.)
Anyway, moving on to the main theme of the book:  life, death, and all the corpse-gray areas in between.
It was hard to read sometimes because of how raw the emotions were and how hard the questions were that it asked.  I’m not sure that it would have the same impact on someone who has never grieved the death of a loved one, but for me it was quite emotional.  I got misty-eyed in several places.
I found myself imagining what it would be like to see my much-beloved grandmother (who, by the time she died, was as hunched, emaciated and discolored as any Forsaken, although that’s not how I try to remember her) standing across a field from me.  To be able to speak to her again, tell her how much I love and miss her, to tell her what I’ve been doing in the last fifteen years...yet to see her as a withered, pungent, unnatural husk, to know she’d been denied the rest of the grave...  Faced with that choice, I don’t know how I would react.  I’m glad I never will--for a lot of reasons!
The book never said that Anduin imagined himself facing either of his parents under such circumstances, but I’m sure he must have.  (I mean, not that there was anything left of Varian to turn undead, but hypothetically speaking.)  Anduin’s a very empathetic person, and his own grief over his father was still so raw.  It certainly affected Genn, who I thought was written very well.
I’ve never been a fan of the Forsaken, because their dark, mean-spirited, nihilistic outlook and the corpse/bone aesthetic don’t appeal to me. (It doesn’t in other contexts, either.  Give me cute jack o’ lanterns and chubby-cheeked ghosts for Halloween decorations, and skip the plastic tombstones and cardboard skeletons, please.)  This book gave a lot of insight into what it would be like to be undead, without the need for sleep, cut off from any living friends/relatives, with a body that’s slowly wearing out without the ability to heal or do physical therapy, knowing that you are repulsive and smelly to others, making the most of second chances while also perhaps yearning for the peace of true death, and being acutely aware of how fragile you really are.  It made the Forsaken more sympathetic and (excuse the pun) fleshed out.
I was also quite pleased to see acknowledgement of Forsaken who aren’t emotionless, gibbering eeeevil.  My lone, seldom-played undead alt, a lowbie priest, is that kind of a character:  holding onto the Light even though it now is painful to use, and refusing to stoop to being a monster just because she’s a walking corpse.  That wasn’t a viewpoint that was really highlighted in canon before.  (Of course, that means my little priest would be out there on the Arathi plain with a bunch of black arrows sticking out of her right now, so...)
I was disappointed that the book never mentioned Anduin bringing Elsie’s body back to Stormwind to bury beside Wyll.  I’m going to assume he did, because geez.
I still don’t know where they’re going with the new Light-infused variety of undead, but we’re not really supposed to.  It’s just a teaser and cliffhanger.  There’s a lot of story potential, anyway.  We’ll see.  I’m glad they didn’t remove Calia from the story completely, at least.
Speaking of cliffhangers, if that adorable gnome/goblin couple didn’t survive, I’m going to be majorly bummed out.  It was also interesting to know that goblins and gnomes can get married in canon.  Presumably other cross-species relationships can be made legal, too.
Anyone who’s emotionally invested in the Menethil dynasty has sure had a rollercoaster of ups and downs lately.  Yay, Calia’s finally in game!  Noooo, she’s not interested in claiming her throne!  Yay, she’s interested after all!  Nooooo, she’s dead!  Yay, she’s...undead?  And she's totally cool with the idea that Lordaeron belongs to the Forsaken?  (Which, I mean, it does, but it’s surprising to have her think that.  So many forum threads about this stuff suddenly became obsolete...)  And there’s a slim chance that her daughter is either undead or still alive out there somehow?  WHAAAAAAT?
Oh yeah, she secretly got married to a footman, had a kid, escaped the Scourge, lived in Southshore for years under an assumed identity, and then presumably lost her husband and daughter when the town got Blighted (yet she’s okay with the Forsaken???), but we didn’t see the bodies so heaven only knows what plot twist could come of that.
On one hand (the Watsonian one) it’s a tragic, awful thing for her to have gone through and I felt really bad for her.  On the other hand (the Doylist one), did she really need more tragic, awful backstory?  No.  No, she really did not.  It seemed like overkill, which makes me suspect they’re seeding a plot thread for the future.  Meh.  Hey, if she lived in Southshore, did she know the Rogers family?  Would Admiral Catherine Rogers recognize her as whatever her fake identity was?
On a related note, you’ve got Anduin who in the past was always like, “OMG noooo don’t compare me to Arthas!” and now is like, “Okay, Calia, I’m officially adopting you as my new big sister.”  Oh, the irony...
I should address the rainbow-striped elephant in the room:  There is no LGBTQIA+ representation in the book.  Anduin is specifically mentioned as having been attracted to the female dwarf Aerin, and he expects to fall in love with a woman someday.  Personally, I‘ve headcanoned him as bi, perhaps leaning a bit ace, while always expecting Blizz to have him marry a woman.  I do sympathize with those who had hoped that he might be canonically gay, and I strongly agree that Warcraft badly needs more representation in that regard.  In this book alone, it would have been so easy to have that blacksmith bringing a helmet as a gift to his long-lost Forsaken husband instead of friend.  But we also need a major Warcraft character to be unequivocally LGBT.  It’s way, way past time.  Get on it, Blizzard.
[Edited to add:  I almost forgot, another kind of representation I wish they had explored was that of physical disability.  As convenient as Anduin’s Magic Lie-and-Bad-Idea-Detecting Bones are, why couldn’t he have had some negative lasting effects of being crushed by the Divine Bell?  Chronic aches, maybe a limp at least?  Loss of a limb, even?  There is a narrative to be explored there, and as someone with a close family member who suffers from chronic pain and limited mobility it would be refreshing to see that kind of thing addressed.]
Moving on, I’ve never cared for Valeera Sanguinar that much, but I did like how she’s set up as Anduin’s super secret spy.  I wonder if she gets to wear pants now.
Big ol’ meanie Sylvanas made Baine and Anduin stop being pen pals.  *pout*  I loved how Magni called her “lassie,” though.  That takes balls of diamond, to be sure...
Speaking of the banshee queen, I tried very hard to read between the lines to see what their long-term plans are for her.  Just because the last line of the book is Anduin proclaiming that she’s beyond saving, that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try to pull off some kind of redemption arc.  If anything it just draws our attention to the question.
Is Anduin right?  A big part of his plot arc lately is how he’s finding his way, making mistakes and learning from them.  Could he be wrong about Sylvanas?  He saw potential for good in Garrosh that never developed, so it’s not impossible that he could find compassion for Sylvanas someday...if she shows remorse and a desire to change.  And that’s an “if” bigger than the sword sticking out of Silithus.
I didn’t see any signs of her wrestling with her conscience.  If anything, the emphasis on how some Forsaken do still have feelings (besides hatred, bitterness, and anger) condemned her all the more by comparison.  Yet she does regret Vol’jin’s death, and she did respect him.  And her feelings were definitely hurt by her sisters’ responses to her, and you have to have feelings to have them be hurt.  But her lack of remorse for any of the vicious, heartless things she does, combined with her new penchant for killing her own people, doesn’t bode well for her to have a change of heart any time soon.
I also kept a close eye on Nathanos.  In his short story they made a point of saying that his senses were sharper with his new body, and that he felt a pang of regret for the first time since his death.  That could simply be an indication of his renewed state, or it could be a tiny sliver of foreshadowing that he’s not 100% on board with Sylvanas’ plotting.  Then again, that was set before Legion, and he spent all of Stormheim frantically trying to find her, and worrying about her, and just generally not being remotely subtle about how much he cares for her.  Heh.  Then again, he can care about her (in whatever way the undead feel such bonds, that is) and still think she’s going too far with her ideas about the valkyr, raising more Forsaken, keeping them up and functioning indefinitely without the release of true death, etc.  Interesting potential for conflict there, as well.
I don’t know that I even want to see a Sylvanas redemption arc, but it’s fun to try guessing what Blizzard has planned.  And such a plot twist would alleviate some of the “Didn’t we just do this same ‘overthrow a bad warchief’ plot with Garrosh?” syndrome, and allow them to keep around one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.
I was also relieved to find no evidence that Anduin is being corrupted by the Old Gods, Azerite, or anything else.  He’s true to himself and the Light, as always.  I appreciate characters who stubbornly insist that there is good in (almost) everyone, despite living in a world that does its best to beat that optimism out of them.  It’s not blind idealism or naivete; it’s faith and its own kind of strength.
Sylvanas and Anduin are fascinating foils for each other.  The stark contrast between a young king who is still finding his place and a bitter, scarred, centuries-old queen, someone who comes to understand that death is not always the enemy versus someone who digs in her heels and refuses to accept it, someone who wants his people to be happy versus someone who kills them for not agreeing with her...  It’s intriguing.
Was it the best book ever?  No.  Did I enjoy reading it?  Yes.  Is it absolutely necessary to read in order to understand the story going into the next expansion?  Nah.  Would it have been a lot better with Wrathion in it somehow?  Of course.  ;)
And that’s my two cents.  (Er, well, judging by how long this post got, more like $2.50.)

This may be old hat, but I have seen people talk about how Shiro clearly favors Keith to the detriment of other team members. Namely, Lance. I don't feel like this very IC, but I wanted to get other opinions and I enjoy your meta.
This is something in fanon that’s always kind of bothered me honestly. I have a whole meta here about how Shiro protects Lance and cares for him throughout Sendak’s takeover. I honestly don’t understand how people could say Shiro doesn’t care enough about Lance when Shiro was literally willing to get captured and tortured again for his sake. “But that was one time!” some fans will say. As if putting your life on the line and getting a few thousand volts of electricity surging down your spine isn’t a big deal apparently?? Shiro cares for Lance, he does. He could’ve won that fight, but he threw it for Lance’s sake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something that I repeatedly see people cite as a sign Shiro “favors” Keith over Lance is their talk before the BOM. Shiro decides he’s going to take Keith with him, and Lance lashes out. He claims Keith is unable to stay calm, and yet, he’s the one losing his temper. And this is only the latest in a long line of instances in which their supposed “rivalry” is really just a one-sided game where Lance is the instigator and Keith repeatedly has to remain calm and either try to make peace or just tune him out. Throughout season 2, he really snaps back. In contrast, Lance has demonstrated again and again that he is childish and self-centered, that he himself has a quick temper. And yet, he’s quick to direct the blame at Keith. Who handles it quite gracefully, might I add.
Tumblr media
So yeah, anyway, Shiro was right. It was a good call to bring Keith instead of Lance. But because Lance is often placed upon a pedestal, somehow not coddling him 24/7 can be misconstrued as abuse. I think another reason people are so quick to say Shiro doesn’t treat Lance the way he deserves is because he doesn’t talk Lance through all his insecurity issues. But you know what? If Lance wants to talk about it, then he has to bring it up. The only two people that have actually addressed that directly are Allura and Keith. And both of them only do so after Lance brings it to their attention. If Lance doesn’t speak up or keeps up an act, how is Shiro supposed to see the signs and help?
More importantly, people act as though all of Lance’s insecurities are somehow Shiro’s fault. Why is that? Shiro has been imprisoned and tortured for a year. His PTSD and consequential paranoia, depression, and anxiety are far more difficult to deal with than Lance feeling upstaged. And yet, Shiro would never presume that this was somehow everyone else’s burden, or that they owed him more because of it. So why should Lance merit special treatment? Yes, Shiro isn’t as attentive with Lance and Hunk. But that’s because they’re so much more well adjusted.
I don’t mean this badly, it’s just a fact. They came from good, loving homes. Hunk feels fondly enough about his family to want to return, and seems to have no baggage associated it. Lance meanwhile we know was the youngest sibling and somewhat spoiled. They had it good before. There’s nothing wrong with that. Characters don’t have to have traumatic backstories to be deep or meaningful. But this also means that these two aren’t dealing with the same shit as Keith and Pidge. They don’t have Keith’s abandonment issues or the shared grief he and and Pidge feel over losing their family. These two need more reassurance and guidance and comfort, and Shiro is of course there to provide it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bizarrely enough, it also feels like fans are unable to believe that Shiro has friends. Lance treats Hunk significantly better than Keith from day one, and in fact forces his personal vendetta on Keith for purely selfish reasons. But Keith is expected to graciously accept this because “it’s just from Lance’s insecurities.” Meanwhile, Shiro clearly has nothing against Lance and has never singled him out or treated him poorly out of nowhere. Yet he’s accused of favoritism. This favoritism is really just friendship. He knew Keith before Kerberos, was so close with him he literally brought Keith to the launch instead of his own family. They’ve clearly been side by side for a long time, long enough for Keith to develop an intense desire to be with him when he shuts out everyone else. Long enough for Shiro to not be surprised that it’s Keith of all people who shows up to save him.
Tumblr media
Romantic or not, “Shiro and Keith have the closest relationship.” In Joaquim’s own words, that’s canon (source). So of course their interactions will be different from everyone else’s. That gravity and vulnerability is unique to them alone. And honestly? Removing that link is clearly detrimental to both their coping mechanisms. I think it’s selfish for people to expect Shiro to either push Keith away or pull everyone else in. He’s not ready for something like that, and it shouldn’t be forced on him. Everyone else is allowed to have best friends or romance or whatever’s happening here. Why can’t Shiro? Why is that so wrong? And, to take this in another direction–were Lance to somehow become Black Paladin, does that mean he has to distance himself from Hunk? That he can’t still be interested in Allura? No, I don’t think so.
And I mean, Shiro does trust Lance, you know? He does still take Lance’s input into account. When Lance says he wants to try to make that impossible shot in Beta Traz, Shiro lets him. Shiro trusts him. And when he makes it? Shiro compliments him! And the reaction is immediate–Lance is clearly thrilled. So yes, Shiro does think Lance is capable of great things. Yes, Shiro lets Lance know when he does a good job and wants to be supportive of him. That much is clear.
Tumblr media
I think the other reason why people assume Shiro is somehow biased against Lance because he made Keith Black Paladin instead. And, I’m going to be completely straightforward here–the idea of Black Paladin Lance just makes no sense to me. Neither in the narrative nor thematically and it certainly doesn’t fit with his character development. The thing is, I think people have lost sight of what Black Paladin really means. It’s not a popularity contest. It doesn’t mean you’re the “best” and you shouldn’t just want your fav to have that spot. Lance is far more suited to the role of a Red Paladin, as reflected in his parallels with Alfor, his talk with Allura, and his character arc. To quote my other meta:
It’d be a huge setback and really detract from his character development. When he sits in the Black Lion for “like half a varga” Lance’s main motivation here is seeking his own glory. His character arc is about learning to grow past that and see the bigger picture and realize everyone in Voltron is part of a whole and you’re not better because you’re the leader.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he treated Keith earlier in that episode was also incredibly malicious considering the guy was grieving the loss of the person he loved most. And Lance still has the audacity to spit on Shiro’s last “dying” will and continually provoke Keith until he lashes out or leaves. Learning to see the wrong in that and instead supporting Keith was a huge step for him, and I don’t see why he’d ever still take Black after that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also makes no sense thematically. When Keith steps into Black again, he says, “I know this is what you wanted for me, Shiro. But I’m not you. I can’t lead them like you.” And Lance just goes, “This is your moment.” Keith’s concern first and foremost is with what Shiro wanted and what’s best for the team. Lance just wants to steal the spotlight. He has no intrinsic connection to the Black lion through his bond with Shiro the way Keith does. He also doesn’t have those thematic parallels to Zarkon the way Keith does–instead, he’s recognized as being very similar to Alfor.
People act like Shiro and Keith stole away Lance’s chance at leadership, but Shiro wasn’t even considering anyone else. Lance was never even in the running.
The thing is, I kind of understand where people are coming from. To my knowledge, a lot of fans find Lance to be the most relatable, and reflect on him–likewise, I often do this with Keith. But anyway, people really feel for Lance and see their own insecurities through him. But that still doesn’t mean everyone should drop everything to immediately focus on him. Shiro is a good leader. Shiro cares about all of his paladins. Shiro by no means has anything against Lance. But that doesn’t mean he should be given the spot as Black Paladin just because he’s Lance, or that Shiro should be micromanaging his and the other paladins’ emotional needs 24/7 when he’s just trying to get by himself. I understand people feeling for Lance and wanting to see him reach his full potential. But that doesn’t mean everyone has to bow down to him. In fact, going by his daydreams and personal arc–this would significantly negate a good amount of his character development.
