Y'ALL. Y'ALL so for a long time I've believed that "the sun" in Meursault's story is Carmen, and I went to check Hell's Chicken's dialogue to see exactly how he said that he'd dealt with distortions before, and... you know what else he said?
To my knowledge, it is a phenomenon where an individual morphs into a form often unfit to be considered “human”. It has no known causes, and the appearances were all different.
Unfit to be considered human.
Meursault, who, in his book, was judged by the court to be soulless.
Meursault, who has EGO for Cyborgs who have been so mutilated they barely act like people anymore; a murderer who was experimented on until ceasing to be human; a sheep named after Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a novel about the humanity of androids and the inhumanity of humans; and now a rose that can't help its bloodsucking nature, based on Carmilla, a vampire whose story emphasized the duality between her vampiric traits and her human ones.
Meursault, who answered Heathcliff's ironic question of if he had metal for brains like this:
Tumblr media
I'm placing my bets now, that line from Hell's Chicken is foreshadowing for Meursault's canto even more than "I have witnessed a number of [distortion] cases in the past" was
#limbus company#project moon#meursault#sorry of my info on carmilla is off i still havent read the book#me post#CLARIFYING IN THE TAGS: MEURSAULT IS HUMAN#it would be a disservice to his character and honestly pretty gross if he ended up not being human#the entire point is that he IS human and that other people perceive him as otherwise because of how he behaves#so I guess theoretically if he did distort it would exacerbate the issue?#extremely speculative but there are distortions who can behave pretty normally while distorted#like the marksman of the mist (and also some of the reverb ensemble but those people are all full of issues WAYYY bigger than marksman was)#if meursault was one of those...#someone calling him unfit to be human. it's fine it definitely won't leave a scar on his psyche#i think in his canto there might end up being something about how even though people don't see distortions as humans#distorting is a very human thing to do#anyway i think overall there's juxtaposition with him and don quixote#don isnt human and wishes she could be#meursault is human but people don't think he is#yknow despite my theories it would probably be more poignant if he DIDNT distort#them looking at him and assuming he only couldve done something like that if he distorted but he didnt#oh wait but the timeline... they probably wouldn't have known about how distorting works yet#nevermind back to the first idea#they ask why. he talks about a beautiful voice. no one knows about this yet and they all think there's something deeply wrong with him#'a beautiful voice convinced me' holds up in court about as well as 'the sun was too bright'

you seem to have a wide taste in books !! what are some books that you would recommend ??
Hmmm I wonder. I have the feeling I just read the same couple of books over and over, and at times only different iterations of the same story, like in that line by Borges ("the various intonations of a few metaphors").
I find recommending books without knowing anything at all about the person asking rather difficult. What I'd suggest to one may differ greatly from what I'd recommend to someone else. I'll give a list of some of my favourite books that I think are enjoyable in general:
— Thoughts by Pascal
— Cain: a mystery by Lord Byron
— The Iliad by Homer
— Crime and Punishment by Dostoievsky
— Othello by Shakespeare
— Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo
— Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand
— The fragments of the Presocratics
— La Regenta by Leopoldo Alas, Clarín
— Tractatus Logico-philosophicus by Wittgenstein
— East of Eden by John Steinbeck
— Vita nova by Dante
— Contributions to the Founding of the Theory of Transfinite Numbers by Georg Cantor
— Caligula by Albert Camus
— North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
— Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
— Some essays by Russell. I personally love Mysticism and Logic
— Metamorphoses by Ovid
Poetry is perhaps harder to recommend because at times it translates horribly, but in general I love Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Lorca, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Rilke, Byron, Quevedo, Góngora, Lope de Vega, Horace, Catullus, Ovid, Tennyson, Maiakovsky, Garcilaso de la Vega, Oliverio Girondo, Vicente Huidobro, Emily Brontë, T. S. Eliot, Luis Cernuda and Edgar Allan Poe, to name a few.
#I talk too much#I wanted to say The tragic sense of life by Unamuno and Philosophy and Poetry by María Zambrano#but I thought maybe they'd be hard to find in translation. They're both approachable texts of philosophy beautifully written though#Unamuno's essay Vida de Don Quijote y Sancho (translated as Our Lord Don Quixote in English according to Wikipedia?) is also beautiful#I adore Schopenhauer and Nietzsche but I'm not sure I'd recommend them to anyone. Probably you can't go wrong with Kierkegaard though#I know what some of these books look like (like Wittgenstein's Tractatus or Cantor's Foundations)#but I swear they're approachable without specific academic background. The last line of Wittgenstein's Tractatus is one of my favourite#lines ever in the history of anything‚ philosophy or literature‚ but to be as hitting as it is you need to reach it at the end of the book#I think despite what it looks like both Cantor and especially Wittgenstein have an aesthetic intent in their writing#Wittgenstein in particular reminds me of Kierkegaard and Rilke and also of Unamuno and Zambrano. And of course Schopenhauer et al.#The Tractatus is very similar in my opinion to Huidobro's Altazor which is just amazing but I don't know how it would translate#These books I like in form and not just in content (although form is content like I think happens in Wittgenstein's Tractatus)#so when possible I'd read them in their original languages.I myself can't read German and know but very little of Russian and Ancient Greek#and a bit of Latin so I must be missing a lot of those. Nonetheless they're great in what I can get through translation#Perhaps you'd have the chance of enjoying them in full#If you can't read Russian I am actually quite specific with the translation of Crime and Punishment haha There's a concept#Razumikhin develops through the book at several points and often translators aren't consister with the word which makes the readers lose#the view of this development. And I happen to think the development works alongside the narrative of Svidrigailov#and also with what happens towards the end with Porfiry and Raskolnikov so I think it's important#In English there are several translations that maintain the coherence such as the one by Pevear and Volokhonsky#(the only one I can remember right now but I could check the rest). Garnett's translation is everywhere but that one doesn't do it#Hmmm Pedro Páramo in English takes some liberties and La Regenta isn't as funny which is what happens with Wuthering Heights#and The three musketeers in translation even when the translations are more accurate#I haven't recommended Wuthering Heights because I take you've read it but that's my favourite book#And I haven't recommended Pandora Hearts because that's a manga and you asked for books but it does some very interesting things#that I think are in line with many of the books listed here (as I said‚ I basically like the same few things retold over and over haha)#There are many books I am itching to recommend but that I can't do freely without some knowledge of the person asking#Like Steinbeck's arthurian novel or idk Gone with the wind#I hope this list is enjoyable enough. I'm not sure if I've been able to avoid being too partial#I suppose one has to bear the conditions of their existence and can't ever entirely get rid of themselves haha

Royal AU x Locked in a Room
Keke I'm assuming you're asking for boy king au? 🤭🤭 I feel like they often get locked in rooms together because everyone is so done with their bickering. Like oh noooo we lost the key, you guys are gonna have to wait in there. Together. Alone. Unfortunately the locksmith lives across Vienna. Btw he’s scared of horse carriages. Oh no.  Don’t worry, Mark makes sure to lock them in a room with a notable lack of sharp objects. I think when they’re away from everyone else, away from their situation, they feel a lot more comfortable with each other. They’re stuck in a room for the foreseeable future with no one else watching, what is the real point of putting up a front anymore in this situation; this is the man they’re going to be stuck with forever after all, just not in the confines of this specific room. They are both a very specific breed of ultra competitive and devoted, so even though they’re having a perfectly “normal” conversation about literature they enjoyed(Fernando: Machiavelli’s The Prince, he says it's a very good, relatable and interesting guide. Seb: Don Quixote, he told Fernando it reminds him of a certain someone), to everyone outside, it’s like “oh god what is that muffled yelling, are they scuffling???” When they’re not being scrutinized by the rest of the palace and court, I think they can have very calm constructive conversations about running the kingdom(no matter how seemingly competitive they sound.)  Also even if Seb cares less about image than Fernando, I think he still definitely puts up a front, it’s just a lot less negative than Fernando; so this situation gives them a situation where they can be their most free and open selves. Yeah yeah they spend time alone together often, like in their bedchamber, but that still has a notable time limit most of the time, and technically one of them could just dip at any moment. So everytime they get conveniently stuck in a room, they come out of it a lot closer and a lot more aligned, and a lot more fond of each other. I say “come out of the room” but more often than not, they’re found passed out, cuddled together on some surface, the furniture and their clothes in disaray. I’ll leave it up to your imagination how they ended up there, and what their state of undress is 🤭

Still reeling after seeing a guy call Don Quixote a violent psychopath willing to murder literally anyone who meets eyes with her but then compare Hong Lu to Astolfo.
You mean the tiny, sparkly-eyed, energetic, Chaotic-Good character deemed “irrational” by their teammates, kind of androgynous-looking and at one point jumps in to save a random person and is immediately tortured by their superiors for it? Also they have a big lance weapon?
And you compare HONG FUCKING LU to Astolfo?

Hi my name is Don Quixote of La Mancha the Knight of the Rueful Figure and I have a rueful figure (that's how I got my name) with purple bruised ribs and tall stature and gaunt features and hair turning gray and a rather hooked aquiline nose and large black drooping mustaches and a lot of people tell me I look like Amadís of Gaul (AN: if u don’t know who he is begone!). I’m not related to Lady Oriana but I wish I was because she’s an incomparable flowering beauty. I’m a knight errant but some of my teeth and grinders are missing. I have long lank limbs. I’m also a defender of damsels, protector of orphans, succourer of the needy, righter of wrongs, undoer of injustice, and I wander a magic countryside called the mountains of Spain where I’m in my first year of knighthood (I’m forty-nine). I’m a gentleman (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly armor. I love my great-grandfather's forgotten corner of the house and I cobble together all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a doublet of fine cloth with matching shoes and velvet breeches and a helmet, morion, visor, breastplate and backpiece. I was riding outside La Mancha. It was early morning so the rays of the sun fell obliquely and the heat did not distress me, which I was very happy about. A lot of giants stared at me. I put up my pasteboard visor at them.

Manager of La Manchaland Don's uptie story was
Tumblr media
It really reinforced the messiness of Don Quixote being a very loving but also extremely self-centered person.
Despite being more than capable of killing all of his Children, he refused to retaliate, willingly allowed himself to be killed and stopped sealing La Manchaland the moment Sancho pleaded with him, in the name of the love he had for them and as his last responsibility as their Father.
At the same time, he continuously neglected his Family's suffering while he went off adventuring, and never considered how his actions and words hurt them beyond a "this hardship will end later".
Even if Sancho's theorized excuse of "he knows I'm not interested so he doesn't want to waste my time" was his actual reasoning, he didn't actually ask her opinion and just shooed her away while pushing more responsibility onto her.
Which in turn led to the uptie highlighting Sancho's attachment issues.
She's been alone her whole life, whether caused by the death of her parents or just straight up abandonment, and when Don Quixote offered to give her a family that would never leave, she attached herself to him. Despite all of her snark, she's arguably the most emotionally dependent on him out of all the Kindreds, and his frankly awful choice of words and them not sharing an interest in Bari's stories, made her assume he abandoned and replaced her with a random stranger.
This growing disconnect between them was made even worse with La Manchaland's creation and the subsequent shitshow, as in this mirror world she did not go adventuring with him and was much more attuned to what the other were going through. She could no longer rationalize or try to understand his perspective on his decisions while the others suffered.
All that mattered was that he promised her a family, and he broke that promise for the sake of his dream and whims. So now she'll take over and do what he should've been doing from the start, and prioritize the Family above all else.

this is going to be an odd post but having finished Don Quixote, I think... Project Moon turning Limbus Company's version of Don into a vampire is not any more of a disservice to her source material than anything else they could've done with her character.
The arc everyone expected from her was that she'd witness the horrors of the city and it'd shatter her whimsy, and now that she's a vampire, she's... definitely going to be doing something different. But you know what?
Nothing like that- having beliefs shattered by seeing the horrors- happens in the book Don Quixote.
He goes through 99% of the story with his delusions intact, unbreakable by anyone or anything. If he sees something that doesn't line up with his beliefs, he says an evil enchanter has changed its appearance. The closest he gets to having his beliefs changed by his experiences is when he starts seeing inns as they are instead of as castles, near the end.
His spirit is broken when he loses a battle and is forced to go home and take a year off of knight errantry... but not because he realizes he was wrong, he's sad because he has to take a year off of knight errantry.
You know how he stops believing in his delusions?
He gets sick, with the text saying it's from depression, and then after a few days of being in bed, he wakes up completely sane and holding the belief that everything he did in this book was stupid. And then he dies.
I'm not going to lie, I don't like the ending very much. And giving that ending to Limbus Don would, despite being accurate to the source material, not be great and would probably be widely considered as bad writing.
The story of a girl realizing that the City sucks is about as faithful to the original Don Quixote as her suddenly being a centuries-old vampire because neither of them actually happen in the book and both would change the entire structure of the story if they did happen. Also, "bright-eyed person who believes in justice learns the hard way that the real world is too harsh for that fantasy" is a very common theme in the City that we've already seen with Finn from Yun's office in Ruina, Garnet from Leviathan, and pretty much every fresh fixer out there, so basically I'm saying I support this decision

[AU] <<<< bruno in a vienna lady costume (first time drawing him in women’s ballet clothing somehow? i only draw him in sweats apparently. or that outfit inspired by his canon one.) & another of him in a dress.
anyways. here’s random tidbits of info about my au:
> bruno fucked up sewing his pointe shoes while breaking them in once, so now leone sews for him. “it saves time”, he says.
> leone re-learnt how to sew for that very purpose.
> bruno prefers to practise in sweats/partial costume, while leone prefers to practise in full costume.
> when first casted in Giselle, bruno thinks leone hates him because leone is originally so dismissive. in reality, he was just really fucking anxious because he admired bruno and it came across the wrong way.
> he also makes bruno think that because of how harsh he is about bruno’s pointe work. however, leone would have been that harsh with anyone because he’s a perfectionist— bruno or not.
> leone is cast as albrecht & bruno is giselle (leads & love interests). i’ve written/drawn/imagined other ballets as well, like don quixote or even niche ass ones like Excelsior!
> they eventually carpool after leone discovers bruno walks/takes the bus. leone hates driving but pretends not to. uses “we have limited time rented in the studio” as the excuse.
> they, at some point, go on a museum date-but-not-date.
> bruno sneaks small snacks into leone’s dance duffel bag because he thinks leone is too stingy about eating sometimes. leone always says he won’t eat it, but he does once he gets home every once in a while. (au does not condone eds or anything like that, unlike the real-world of ballet. when i say stingy, i mean leone doesn’t like snacks. he eats properly at certain times throughout the day.)
> after a performance of Giselle, bruno and leone got each other flowers, not planned.
> bruno and leone whisper “ “in bocca al lupo” to each other right before each ballet starts (which is like an italian ver. of ‘break a leg’, a term to not genuinely wish badly on someone to not jinx the performance.)
:•)
that’s all for now. im so glad so many people like my au, i was worried when it came to posting it that people wouldn’t like the idea. LOL, i was wrong! i very much enjoy reading all comments and reposts and what u guys think. love all of you dearly and deeply. stay safe !!!!!!!

cuddling Ishmael from limbus company
I went way off course on this one. Also, I added Don Quixote, Rodya, and Ryoshu as well.
Either way, your wish is my command!
Tumblr media
Ishmael’s love is like the ocean.
One moment, it is calm with gentle waves and good winds.
The next, the wind is blowing you to and fro, the sea froths and foams in passionate, loving madness as waves like skyscrapers attempt to swallow you whole.
You are the only one permitted to see this part of her in its entirety.
The part of her that festers under her skin, begging to be let out onto those she loves.
The part of her that is held back by her fear and rage.
The part of her that you let loose, if ever so slightly.
The part of her that wants her to crush you in her arms as she holds your hand.
The part of her that wants to kiss your lips raw whenever she looks into your eyes.
The part of her that wants to have you with her for all of time.
The part of her that, when you saw all of her, held her close despite that, took control of her and shook her too her very foundations.
That is Ishmael's love.
That is the love only you are privy to.
Tumblr media
Don Quixote’s love is like lightning.
It is burning, it is viscous, it is quick, it is loud, it is wild, and it is most definitely Don’s.
To say the girl sweeps you off your feet is an understatement.
She will take you in her arms and promise you the world, promising to show you the most incredible of sights as it is the bare minimum of what you deserve in her eyes.
The conviction in her eyes, the force of her words, and the gentleness of her promises makes it impossible for you not to believe her.
Don Quixote’s words and actions, no matter how grand or mad, always have endless passion and love in them.
And so, rain or shine, day or night, alone or in public, Don Quixote will show you her love whenever she so wishes.
Tumblr media
Rodion’s love is oppressive, greedy, and all consuming.
Like a starved animal biting down on prey, she will hold you in her clutches and won’t let you go until she wishes.
Rodya knows that if you want something desperately, you take it.
However, the concept of giving something invaluable and fragile like her heart…
It’s something she is terrified of.
Yet, she still tries to give her love to you as best as she can.
It is not subtle, it is not gentle, it is not measured.
And yet, it perfectly encapsulates everything she feels for you.
Her love is massive, impossible, kind, passionate, and filled with more emotion than she can stand.
And it is all for you.
It is something she gives to you without desire of reciprocation.
She only hopes that you know just how great her love for you is.
Tumblr media
Ryoshu is not someone who shows love in any way that could ever be considered traditional.
However, even she is not immune to the cold.
So, on the nights when the temperature runs ever so slightly chilly, she will wrap her arm around you with an abbreviated mutter and nothing else.
As the two of you lay there, she will absentmindedly run her finger across the small of your back like it was a brush (or knife) and you were her canvas.
Simple nonsensical doodles, complicated designs, sketches of half formed thoughts and memories.
If you were anyone else, she may have entertained the thought of cutting you open at this moment.
Unfortunately for her artistic side, you had wormed your way into her heart like a caterpillar eating through an apple.
For better or worse, you were a part of her now.
For better or worse, she was a part of you now as well.
Ryoshu was in turmoil over this fact.
And yet, for some reason she felt a small flame of hope in her chest when she thought of you.
Could it be caused by sentimentality? Connection? Love?
Ryoshu did not know.
That did not bother as much as she thought it should.

man i was gonna type something out here but nothing came to mind
part 3 was so good its left me speechless
Thank you very much for opportunity to write my thought down, without thinking about intro.
I LOVE 7 CANTO.
It was amazing. I feel rewarded for all my love and faith toward Don.
AND THE FACT I PREDICTED A LOT OF THINGS ALSO FEELS AMAZING
I loved how Sancho abandons us walking forward, and for the first time, sinners follow her, listening. Paying attention.
I loved to see that story about that Bloodfiend family and how Bari changed everything. I loved to see how he changed his mind and how he tried to change everything around him. I love how when he sees "fruits" of his absence, he tries to bring justice himself, punishing his Family for crime and himself for allowing that to happen. (Also also the fact that while he speaks about his family, the fact that his relationship with Sancho is special. One he takes with him for adventure, one who allowed to run away from this prison, one who allowed to kill him, one who inherits his name. If I were Dulcinea, I would also hate Sancho. Imagine being so obviously second favorite for eternity.)
I loved that Don Quixote did so much to save Sancho from this prison and torture from hunger, and yet the first thing she does after getting saved is lock herself in a prison, ignoring her hunger. She did not want to be saved. She wanted to die here with him, and in some way, she did.
I love that Don that we meet in a beginning a prisoner who for a first time in two hundred years sees world and speaks with other people. Of course, she's weird. Genuinely, she could be weirder.
I love that she confronts sinners and their answer not to beat her into submission but talk with her.
Some of them I believe some of them not but it still was great. Seeing Sinclair stopping circle of violence and being first person to say "hey our friend is hurting, maybe WE WON'T BEAT THEM?!"
I love how desperately Yi Sang and Heatcliff don't want to see their new family to fall apart
I love how Hong Lu says the most correct things
I love how Outis SEES HERSLEF IN DON(not in a way I predicted BUT STILL), and I love how she doubts her.
I usually dislike timetavels in story, but there was something so beautiful in a way that Dante changed only a bit, only a few words, rejecting their fear to help Don.
I love how Don Quixote is broken, but there are still some embers of his ideals. I love dynamic between him and Sancho, I love his weak laughter in battle and how it's almost impossible for Sancho to lose. I love that so many skills Sancho learned from him, but in final action, he copies her, creating a lance.
I love how he dies in her hands, and Sancho keeps crying, explaining how, in the end, she changes. She wants to live, and she wants to be a hero. And how he dies almost happy seeing how his Sancho finally found something worth living besides him.
I LOVE THIS CANTO
But of course, there is some unsatisfying stuff.
We still don't know what's the deal with Sanson.
We still haven't learned what "Promised Timepiece" means.
I also think her sprite SHE HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO HAVE HER SANCHO HAIR
But not everything could be a win for me and that's fine.
I only hope that, at least in the next event we will see Sinners getting used to the idea that ancient vampire is traveling with them and that it's a conscious choice to keep sounding like that.
Also, I want them to use Don's voice actor range because SHES AMAZING
