about the touchscreenless chromebook thing have you considered getting like one of them screenless drawing tablets?? I got one a while ago for about $24 and it takes a bit to get used to but it works (huion h420 i believe) (dont feel compelled to answer btw)
I've considered ... but I am alas so poor and I doubt my parents would buy me one bc my mom has this super stupid device rule like "u can only have school computers until youre like 18" bc my brother had a phone and almost failed HS. it sucks so im stuck drawing on school computers
#im so dirtpoor that at my schools bookfair i had to settle for a discounted sonic graphic novel#it looks cool#but og price : 3 dollars#price i paid : 1.45#i am broke#anon asks#i hope to get like a summer job or smth#maybe just a short thing#not like long-term#i live in a place with like 15-ish dollars per hr#so im thinking like hey all i need is 3-5 days realistically then boom i can get a cheap tablet and have a bunch for l8r or smth

So uh, I just got an e-mail from a publisher wanting to print my short story 5, which is great. But also they want to have it done and up for the Leipzig bookfair, which funny story, but a book with another short story of mine will also be revealed there.
So hey, two of my short stories will be available for the Leipzig bookfair, which is just the second biggest literature event in Germany, okay cool yeah
I think I need to sit down
#I mean thinking about it a TON of books will be available there#new books and stuff that's the fun part about bookfairs#still somehow surreal#also I can't go which is meh but it's just too short notice#but that's fantastic news for pitching my new story so yeah cool stuff

Talking about prewrites and how we go about thinking about what to present to audiences and what we don't.
#rose and rambles#writing#prewrites#um im worried this one will come off as a downer so forgive me#i don't intend it to be a downer but an earnest contemplation about which pieces of work we choose to share and why#anyway you know what isn't a downer? Forgive my fins#that was a good book i should reread it#listen#the entire concept is that when merfolk kiss its like a permanent bond for them#and you'll never believe what happens when a merperson kisses a human#at the risk of sounding cringe it is unironically one of my fav stories of all time#i remember getting it from ye olde scholastic bookfair and getting up early to read it before school#and squealing on the couch at 4 in the morning#the blog post does not go into any depth about forgive my fins hence the tag ramble but fhbvhfbv#hbfhfbdv there's a whole section where the two characters get stranded on an island for couple's therapy#its just good old fun

I need to start picking up catalouges for stores and start circling things I want like I did as a kid. Yes I DO need that barbie dollhouse and matching car and also madagascar 2 on dvd. Im an adult so maybe some kitchenware. I think it would bring me joy
#purting that huge sharpie curcle around something 5 times so mum knows you want it#we’re all just living in the remnants of the scholastic bookfair#and harbouring nostaglia for glimpses of happiness we think is lost to us#but this too will become nostalgia#qzth

I HAVE THIS VERSION TOO!!!!
I even still have the necklace somehow...
I don't think I ever posted this on here but, I have a special version of Wings of Fire; The Lost Heir that I had never seen get documented litterally anywhere else.
It came with the book, and a necklace (which idk where it is rn) and it was exclusively only sold at school book fairs.
Here's a collection of differences between the basic copy and the book fair copy.
They had different cover textures. The regular one was glossy, while the book fair copy was mate with shiny text (honestly wish the other books were like this)
The back of the special copy has a grade reading level rating, lacks the "epic saga takes flight text" and has a warning over the barcode reading "this edition is available for distribution only through the school market."
The book fair version was much thiner than the regular/current, and it also lacks an about the author section completely, with no picture or description about Tui Sutherland to be found anywhere in the book. The text in the school version is also slightly thicker and the pages are cleaner and more white compared to the newer version as well despite being older (not shown in the pictures here).
As far as I can tell, there's no difference in the story itself at all, nothing removed or added that I can find or remember. I just think it's a neat little part of my collection and realized I should probably share it in more places than just *gags* Twitter.
#I read it in one afternoon#I love Tsunami so much#I totally forgot that the edition was special to Scholastic bookfairs#God I loved the Scholastic Bookfair

Miguel asking Peter B for love advice since he wants so badly to ask the reader out on a date but it's been so long since he got involved with someone that he just don't know what to do 😂🩷
his stomach is in knots at the prospect of asking you out.
"how do i ask her out? like what do i say?"
miguel knows the nerves are normal, but these have his stomach knotting and twisting and doing anything in it's power to make his nerves worsen.
"just relax man," peter b says, bouncing a sleepy mayday in his arms.
"relax?" miguel doesn't think he'd know the meaning of the word if it was staring him in the face.
"you're overthinking this man, just chill out. she's not gonna care where you go, just as long as you're not shitting yourself over the place and making it a huge deal."
miguel regrets asking peter for help. it's not so much the advice, but the cavalier way peter loans it out. like it's nothing. like miguel isn't working up the nerve to ask out the girl he's had a fucking crush on for months like a teenager.
peter acts like you're not the girl who's smile sends an upitck to miguel's heart rate.
"okay, yeah. i'll be chill," he says it through gritted teeth and peter wants to give the man a sedative. "i'll be so chill."
peter nods, but he's disbelieving.
"yeah, now go ask her. she's coming back from the bookfair so she'll be more forgiving if you trip over your words and shit yourself." miguel knows peter's words are more jibe than fact, but in that moment, as he walks over to you, he wonders if his stomach would actually betray him like that.

"Which raises an obvious question: why are Bordigists at an anarchist bookfair given their lack of libertarian ideas. Trotskyists are not welcome so why are these dissident Leninists? Perhaps this is evidence of, as was said in On the Poverty of Student Life, that “since the anarchists tolerate each other, they would tolerate anything”? Or perhaps this is an expression of anarchist lack of confidence in their own ideas which makes “ultra-leftism” more influential in British anarchist circles than it deserves to be? Whatever the reason, they were there and their texts appear in libcom.org and elsewhere. Still, how irrelevant must you be to be parasitic on the British anarchist movement?"
-Review: "The British Communist Left, 1914-1945" (2023)
...
how do you call that kind of rethoric? humble trashing?

Just an idea
After going from the crazy reader to the comforting reader, now I am back to crazy reader after watching a tiktok for the Korean drama "It's ok to not be ok".
It was just a clip from the drama where the male lead's autistic older brother got looked down by a family of 3 and was violently treated by the family. The context was that the female lead was the older brother's favourite author (she writes children's books but her personality is quite crazy), so he went for her bookfair and got picked on by the family.
The autictic older brother suffered from both physical (got his hair pulled) and verbal assults from that family (said that he was crazy).
When the female head heard the commotion, she walked down so casually with her bodyguards following behind her. She grabbed the father's hair and said "Even you would scream when someone grabs your hair, how do you expect him to not?". She then asked the mother how did she diagnosed someone as lunatic when she is not a doctor. The mother replied because the autistic older brother was acting weird and rambling nonscense. So, the female lead called the mother "A crazy bitch becasuse she is also rambling nonsense!".
All of this happened at the bookfair for children's book, and I was like how I wish Team Green has someone like this.

I've got a book launch event for BREATHE: JOURNEYS TO HEALTHY BINDING coming up at 1pm on Saturday May 11 at the Barnes and Noble in Santa Rosa (700 4th St). Say hello if you'll be in town!
Here's the info from the Barnes and Noble event page:
We are beyond excited to announce that we are hosting Maia Kobabe, author of 'Gender Queer' I.E. 2023's most banned book in America, for a Discussion/Signing of 'Breath: Journeys to Healthy Binding' by Maia Kobabe and Sarah Peitzmeier, PHD. 'Breath' is a graphic novel comprised of real-life stories and research-backed advice on the subject of binding. Maia will also be joined by local LGBTQIA+ non-profit, Positive Images, who will be setting up appointments for binder sizing while also handing out free binders and other goodies. We will also be having a bookfair with Positive Images that will allow a portion of all event sales to go back to the organization so they can continue to help the LGBTQIA+ community.
The book discussion will be open to all who would like to join however, one of Maia's books will have to be purchased to receive a wristband granting you access to the book signing line after the discussion. LIMITED WRISTBANDS AVAILIBLE so it is encouraged to buy your books before the event begins.

WiP - Road Plushy!
In preparation of the Bookfair next week I did some very last minute cosplay things, they are queued up and will be posted the next weeks but one final addition was this little plushy I just finished today.
I have to say I really enjoyed working on her as it was kind of back to the roots for me. Before I started customizing dolls myself I made custom plushies of my favorite characters around that time, including clothes and everything. I used a free pattern back then ofc I don't have it anymore as it's over 10 years since I made the last of those plushies, therefore i made up my own pattern here.
But the body came together quite fast, I added a magnet as she will be my little shoulder buddy and why not adding a magnet in before?
After stuffing the parts I made the pattern for the dress and struggled a bit to choose a ... color. As of course references differ, I decided to go with white as I am pretty much out of f*s to give after a horrible week at work, and I added some lace because why not?
Sewing parts together, then some hand stitching for mouth and eyes. I am ... not very expierenced in stitching but I guess it will do.
For the hair I first wanted to go with fiber but as she's a convention buddy I wanted something more durable, so I used fleece as well and sewed into place. Went out to get a small bow, it's removeable in case I come across a Kanda in need of a hairbow :'D
All done ^_^
