i am gonna stop reblogging after this because i will probably have nothing meaningful to add but. i feel like my point is still being misinterpreted.
-i also hate chatgpt and think nobody should use it because it's useless, thieving, and environmentally unfriendly
-many people using chatgpt do not know why it's a bad thing, because they haven't heard about the environmental impact and all that yet
-they do not know they are fucking up the environment. so they deserve to be told. and given a chance to change their actions
-if someone Knows about the issues with gen ai,knows about alternatives and is still using it. I Agree With Arguing with Those People. I Literally Agree With That.
-lemme. lemme break it down specifically. This is what I'd do if this happened:
Person A: i used chatgpt to answer this math
Person B: hey you know chatgpt is like super wrong on a lot of math and also has a shitty environmental impact right? i can grab some sources on that, but you'd totally be better off using an actual calculator or educational website for that
Person A: oh shit, my bad, im not gonna use chatgpt now
and if person A went like
Person A: yeah ik but i really don't care
then THAT is a person who deserves a fair amount of insulting.
but if the conversation went like
Person A: i used chatgpt for this math problem
Person B: you should be ashamed of yourself, fuck you
Person A: why??? is there something wrong with chatgpt?
Person B: you should just know how do math and you're fucking stupid
Person A: what the fuck man
then that ^ up there ^ is what it feels like a lot of other posts are like. Person B has the exact same correct intents, but they get so caught up in hating chatgpt (the correct part. i hate it too) that they forget not everyone knows Why chatgpt is bad, and then end up using really shitty ableist rhetoric to defend their point when they really didn't have to do that.
in summary
-chatgpt bad
-telling people why chatgpt bad: great. based
-being rude to people who Know why chatgpt is bad: understandable. they're being shitty. not ableist. i never said this was ableist
-being rude to people who Don't Know why chatgpt is bad: useless, assumes everyone knows exactly what we do
-being rude to people because they need help with basic tasks at all: ableist
hope this clears things up
actually i have commented this on enough posts that it should be its own post
chatgpt Bad. we all know and understand this. it is a flawed resource that doesn't understand what it's saying and is putting people off from learning more flexible and important life skills. anything it can do something else can do miles better.
but PLEASE can we stop reinventing ableism to insult anyone who's ever used it?? making recipes can be hard. writing emails can be hard. learning these things is hard, and there are genuinely great resources online to help with those. and if someone mistakes chatgpt for a good resource, then they are literally just believing all the marketing that has been misinforming them!! it does not say anything about their morality. it does not make them stupid. it makes them misinformed, and they deserve to know about better tools for their issues.
but ive seen a lot of people acting like the problem is not people using gen ai to solve issues, it's that people need help with issues at all. and that's...not the issue. some people need outside help to complete tasks. these people will always exist. and informing them that the tool they have found to help them isn't helping them at all, and is stealing information without credit, is important, but shaming them for not knowing how to do basic things is Just Ableism. That's Just Ableism. Come On.
if someone fully knows all about its issues and chooses to still use the misinformation generator of chatgpt for their thesis or degree or what have you, then by all means, have at them for causing future harm to those who learn from them. because they are knowingly doing that. but skipping the Informing part and heading straight to name calling is Not It.
i feel like this is very rambly but basically. people using chatgpt are not your enemy. chatgpt itself and the people creating it are. show people their tool is useless and harmful, and they will listen, learn, and have a better life for it. call people stupid and tell them to be ashamed of themselves, and you are being ableist. it is really that simple.

smth I feel like I see a lot of reading people writing about history (including historians sometimes) is that they'll do a sort of 'overview' of the area or period with little sections on different aspects of life (not inherently a bad thing to do. but) where you'll get like. a section on idk. priests (fine) and then a section on The Lower Classes (good to have ig but way too sidelined considering the portion of the population this represents) and then you'll get a section on Women & almost without fail the whole section on women is (maybe bar a mention or two) about upper class women as though we hadn't just touched on class three seconds ago. and on the one hand there's some source bias here for sure but rather than trying to find information or discuss the lack of information on poor women (or enslaved women! who get even less of a mention) they just sort of.... go along with it & present that as though it's the case? idk idk it bothers me so much both in the way it ignores class as something that affects every aspect of life but gets relegated to a section but also in the way it ignores (& de-genders to a certain extent) the whole existence of poor women (a major part of most populations in history) And how it frames the whole gender of 'woman' as an inherently frivolous luxurious sort of thing (which is also connected to how you get this weird sort of homophobia where effeminacy is framed as a symptom of degenerate wealth & not something poor people (who are apparently inherently masculine) can have too). which is how you get the common but insane take that e.g. by ancient standards sparta treated women 'well' and helots 'badly', when the fact is that the majority of women in sparta were helots. anyways this is particularly about gender and class but I think it's a mistake to treat any of these categories as too separate bc you get some really weird impressions of history that way

look guys i very strongly disagree with the "trans men hold privilege over trans women" point of view and i'm finally able to articulate why:
I think trans men don't hold privilege over trans women, because privilege is kind of a consistent thing.
Like, bear with me: I'm an abled person. I have privilege in relation to disabled people. Because, if me and a disabled person are in a Situation where this distinction is relevant in some way...I'm literally never gonna come out with the worst hand. Never. No matter what the situation is. This is a consistent fact.
Now, when we talk about different transgender identities, I think this gets more shady, because the "who has privilege in relation to who" is a relative statement. One example I saw of people explaining why in their view trans man have privilege over trans women is kind of like this: Imagine there are two passing and stealth trans people, a trans man and a trans woman, in a workplace. Then, it comes a coworker, being blatanly misogynist. Regardless of their views on trans people, in this situation, the trans woman is gonna get the worst of it, in relation to the trans man, because he will be viewed as a man.
It makes sense, and I don't think this hypothetical situation is inaccurate or anything, but I'd also like to point out why it doesn't work as a good point to why transmascs have privilege over transfems. Imagine we change about any variable in this situation. Let's say the trans woman is closeted as a guy, and the trans man is openly transgender. The misogynist coworker then would very much target the trans man in their points, especially if they are particularly transphobic. Now imagine both of them are out and openly trans, with the bonus that now both the man and the woman are gnc. Depending on other specifics, the misoginyst coworker might be bigoted to just one or both of them.
Like, do you see? In different situations, the different trans people have the worst hand. So that doesn't mean that because of the first case, trans men have it generally better. Because there are many kinds of trans men, and simply not all of them have privilege over trans women. In some cases, they might even have it worse precisely because they are trans man. So the privilege the trans man in the first example has is not a consistent thing over trans man! Maybe it's common, I don't know, but when we compare it with someone who has real privilege, like me, an abled person, I ain't ever encounter myself in a situation where I'm having it worse because I am abled in comparison to someone who is disabled.
That's why I think trans woman and trans men simply don't hold privilege over one another, simply because it varies. It depends on who the trans men and women are, it depends in what situation they are in, it depends on the people around them, it depends of so much!!! So saying that trans men have privilege over trans women sounds simply surreal!
I think that, also, the different patterns of the situations in which trans woman have it worse are important to be discussed, and that's why we have the word Transmisoginy, to discuss these issues pertinent to the nuanced oppression trans woman face (and on a similar note, that's why it's also important to have fucking words like Transmisogynoir, because a black trans woman's Situations will be different from a white trans woman's Situations and it's important to to recognize that). THAT's why I also think that we need words like Exorsexism and Transandrophobia, to identify the patterns of situations where trans men have it bad precisely because they are trans men and not something else or because nonbinary people have it bad precisely because they are nonbinary.
SO, in short, my opinion on the "trans man have it generally better than trans woman and that's why they have privilege" debate is that trans man don't generally have it better than trans woman, but some trans man in specific situations have it significantly better than trans woman and that in other situations trans woman have it significantly better than trans man and that is basically a case-to-case scenario and that's also why we need the specific words for different shapes and faces of transphobia to better understand these cases and why x happens with y at z situation. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
#maybe i havent been able to convince you of my point#but hopefully you can see this issue in a new light i guess?#my two cents#transphobia#trans#transandrophobia#trans community#transmisoginy#intersectionality#long post#like hopefully i've been able to get my point across XD#like do you see my point#i hope the examples at the beggining help#like#it doesnt matter that im a black abled person and that is a white disabled person#in a situation where the disability or lack thereof is the Relevant aspect im gonna have it way better than this hipothetical disabled pers#so i have privilege over them regarding my ableness#and similarly in a situation where our race is the relevant aspect they are gonna have it better than me#in situations where these OVERLAP you can't just 'tell' because of like#Nuance. if you know her#im not trying to say trans woman in situations like the first example or some fandom stuff and online interactions-#-don't have a significantly worse hand than the transmascs#im saying that this kind of stuff is a case-to-case scenario#and this so-called Privilege is just.#inconsistent.#and when you compare it to like Abled Privilege or White Privilege it justs...#you can sort of just see the difference#i get it that this whole debate is based on the fact that “in general; men have privilege over women” so i actually see where it's coming-#-from. but i also think that the transness aspect is something that just adds so much nuance to this issue that the previous Truth-#-just can't apply with good accuracy anymore
