Although, the guy is sort of an ass and probably wouldn't agree to posing for a picture. Naruto decides to ask him anyway. What's he got to lose?

simon is appalled to learn that jace has never been to the beach. not for fun anyway. jace makes a point of telling simon he has been a couple of times for missions, but simon just rolls his eyes and says that doesn’t count

so one day when the weather’s good, simon packs towels and a picnic in his van and picks up jace to take him to the beach

jace doesn’t really get the appeal at first, just sitting on the beach all day doesn’t sound very exciting but while he’s driving simon tells jace some of his fond childhood memories of being at the beach with his family. that and the bright, happy look on simon’s face make jace a lot more excited

it’s kind of a busy day, but simon manages to find them a good spot where it isn’t quite so crowded. he lays out towels for both of them and motions for jace to sit on the one next to him.

when jace joins him simon immediately makes sure that they put on enough sun cream (this may or may not involve them rubbing sun cream into each other’s backs)

they start off in the sea. jace decides to show off how long he can hold his breath but resurfaces almost immediately because it was a lot colder than he expected. simon’s laugh makes it worth it though

splashing each other and generally just being really happy and relaxed together

simon went all out with the picnic food, bringing all of jace’s favourites. he packed far too much but jace makes sure it doesn’t go to waste

after lunch simon pulls a bucket and spade from his bag and insists that they build sandcastles. jace decides to turn it into a competition, trying to make the biggest, most extravagant castle he can. simon gets distracted from making his own sandcastle by watching his boyfriend excitedly build his, so simon happily admits defeat

they get ice cream cones and simon ends up with a bit on the corner of his mouth so jace leans forward to kiss it off

at the end of the day as the sun is setting and the beach is clearing, simon and jace walk hand in hand along the beach, barefoot so they can feel the sand beneath their feet. they don’t say much, content just to be in each other’s company

when they get back to simon’s van, jace thanks simon for showing him that spending all day at the beach was not as boring as he thought it would be, before kissing simon softly
