I do hope Dazai realizes he could either push Chuuya away like he's been doing, and that would be it, goodbye Double Black, or he could actually admit Chuuya matters to him. Let Chuuya know that through Dazai's words/actions, not just conjecture.

Yk one thing the BSD fandom hasn’t really realized yet is that Suegiku have actually known each other just as, if not LONGER than Soukoku. Seriously. Ik that sounds crazy, but just hear me out:

First of all, we know Jouno joined the Hunting Dogs 6 years ago. That means he’s known Tetchou for at LEAST six years now

Now you may think it’s a little bit of leap to just assume that they knew each other for all those 6 years. After all it’s entirely possible that Tetchou joined after Jouno did, and so the two could’ve only known each other for as little as a year. However, I honestly don’t think that’s the case, and Tetchou did in fact join BEFORE Jouno.

Admittedly, this is just ultimately HC but it makes sense when u think about it. Out of all the Hunting Dogs. Tetchou is easily the MOST committed to justice and his job. He has passion for it almost unlike any of the other members. I think that he (unlike Tachihara, for instance) actually TRAINED and maybe actually applied to become a Hunting Dog the normal way, kinda like how u can apply to become a cop. In other words, based on his very evident dedication, you can tell that this was a career he CHOSE to go into. And considering that career planning requires, well, a PLAN, one that doesn’t necessarily have to take that many years (depending on the career), and the fact that current Tetchou seems like he’s already in his early to mid 20s max (most of the young adult characters in BSD tend to be in that range- Kunikida, Dazai, Ranpo), then 6 years ago (when Jouno joined) he would’ve most likely have almost completed or already completed his training and become a HD member

Ofc, u can argue that his training could’ve taken longer, so he still could’ve joined after than Jouno. But considering the fact that they took in Tachihara when he was like only 15 (I think?) mostly because of his ability, I don’t think the official training and application process actually takes THAT long. Or if does, then you can easily speedrun all that time by having an OP ability, regardless of ur actual age. (They’re kinda like ADA and PM in that sense; age literally does not matter if u have a broken power lol that can make up for that lol) And considering the fact that Tetchou HAS an OP ability and is literally the strongest Hunting Dog, I feel like he would’ve been accepted for the job sooner rather than later. So yeah, he would’ve already been a HD by the time Jouno joined.

But 6 years ago is just when Jouno OFFICIALLY joined the HD. That’s not even mentioning the time it must’ve took to find and arrest him in the first place. So considering Jouno was an executive of an infamous mafia group, I bet it would’ve taken more than just Fukuchi to capture him. Other HD members, like Tetchou and Teruko would’ve most likely been on the mission as well.

Especially because (while this is mostly HC territory again) it rly seems the HD took down, not just Jouno, but most likely his entire mafia group. We never hear any mentions of them in the present and it just doesn’t make sense that a group as ruthless and THOROUGH as the HD would capture Jouno,(someone who can literally hear them coming MILES away and literally disappear into thin air!) but somehow not anyone else in the mafia group. So if they rly did take down everyone, then that definitely would’ve been a job for more than just one person. Meaning Tetchou definitely would’ve been involved in Jouno’s arrest. Which is how they might’ve actually known each other for even longer than those 6 years, depending on how long it took to arrest Jouno. (Btw, SKK have known each other for 7 years)

I think the reason we’ve never actually realized this is because unlike SKK, SGK aren’t freaks that constantly bring up how long they’ve known each other every five minutes

Also, you could argue that SGK understand each other almost as well as SKK, considering Jouno can literally read Techou’s body like a book and that Tetchou is capable of perfectly describing Jouno to an absolute T.

Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt during the Lovecraft fight has always been so interesting to me...

Because it's the kind of worry you'd never expect from a character as gruff as Chuuya, who had displayed nothing but hostility towards Dazai so far. Usually, characters that are labelled as "angry" or "anger issues" (which Chuuya is much more complex than that but you get my point) act more as a tsundere type of way when the one they "don't care about" gets hurt. And show their care in very, very subtle ways (ex. their eyes widen, their mouth parts and closes again, etc) before putting up their front once more.

Chuuya, however, is open, and vocal about it. His worry is clear not only to us, but to Dazai himself, the one he shouldn't be displaying the concern to (as per the cliche). Shouldn't it be some sort of secret that Chuuya does care? Isn't that what skk's dynamic has been shaping up to be until now?

I'm telling you- the way my mind blanked when Chuuya just casually.... showed concern not once, but twice, was a sight to see.

Besides, the context makes it much more confusing, because Dazai isn't some rookie, and Chuuya knows that more than anybody. He was the youngest executive in Port Mafia's history, of course he can handle a hit or two. Of course he'd seen him handle a hit or two, sometimes without batting an eye.

Heck, Chuuya himself was hurling Dazai like a ragdoll in their reunion, which was their last meeting. And you could argue that he was going easy on him, but Dazai has mostly withstood the same damage (as far as I could see), and Chuuya was as bitter as ever.

So that kind of contradicts both what we knew of Chuuya so far, and how their dynamic was shaped to be. I mean, that just makes Chuuya a hypocrite, yeah? What makes him care now, all of a sudden? What makes him care at all?

Well, to me, this backasswards reaction implies one (or more) of the following:

- Dazai rarely got physically hurt during their partnership and thus this is an unexpected thing for him to see (during a mission).

- The four years of separation made Chuuya unsure of how much Dazai can withstand physically now. Also the fact that he isn't in the mafia anymore, aka fighting enemy organizations on the weekly, would naturally make Dazai lose his touch in a way, what prompts Chuuya's reaction.

- Dazai getting taken off guard took him off guard which led to panic. Especially since the situation was (momentarily) out of their depth. Seriously wtf even was Lovecraft?

- During the dungeon scene Dazai was an enemy, while in the Lovecraft fight he was as an ally. The difference might be significant to Chuuya.

- This has always been Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt regardless of the situation.

- "Only I can hurt him like that" ahh logic

- Asagiri was still experimenting with their dynamic and thus there are some inconsistencies.

This scenario didn't play out again (after their reunion) for me to exactly determine which one is more plausible, but it is 100% canon for Chuuya to shamelessly show his concern and run to Dazai to check on him before properly dealing with their opponent, which I find to be such an appealing layer to their dynamic, and a good spin on the type of character he gets stereotyped as.

Bonus: Dazai also becomes a softy when Chuuya's hurt, especially post corruption. Dead Apple alone displays that multiple times.

All in all, Skk are doing a terrible job at maintaining their 'hostile' and 'antagonistic' relationship post their reunion. Freaks.

So: before we get into what it means, I'm going to tell you why these things are related. 15 is probably the best text we have when it comes to dissecting their relationship, and in 15, dazai says 2 things that relate to both raging romantic tension and also dogs.

This, as well as an arguably more loaded section:

This. Now bear with me, I really did take my meds, this second excerpt is almost a one to one copy of the dog treats panel. For those of you who have read 15, you'll know that this scene is the set up for chuuya being forced into the mafia. They duel, the "treats" (the sheep) appear, and then they disappear, and only when dazai walks away do both the dog and chuuya realize theyve been ensnared in a weirdly elaborate trap for someone who's supposed to not want anything to do with them.

Not only that, but it establishes that not only does he call chuuya his dog, but "his dog" is part of his future plans, and part of the reason he even has future plans.

Part of the reason that dazai wants to live at that point is to spend time with chuuya.

Now: with that we get back into the dog treat "duel".

First, I'll let you read it and draw your own links, as long as you promise to leave them in the notes

As a bsd reader, you'll probably know that dazai's plans often revolve around knowing what the other party will do. This is easily reflected in the dog encounter, because dogs don't know anything, and thus their behavior cannot be influenced to an unpredictable point. If you offer a dog a treat, you can count on that dog eating the treat. The problem is that dazai can't connect that motive to the dog's actions, because he specializes in dealings with egotistical people who rank highly in organizations who have massive flaws they overlook. Take him outside of his comfort zone, and he struggles to tilt things in his favor.

This analysis overlooks one teensy massive character trait that shapes the character: Dazai is the type to step on a rake, hit himself in the balls, and stick the landing so well that everyone thinks it was on purpose.

You can only tell what's "the plan" versus what is just improv by how hard he tries to sell that he's in control.

With this new lens, seeing how hard dazai tries to assert "the difference in [his status]" with the dog almost entirely colors the interaction as some sopping wet loser loses at his own game that he started against a small animal.

And now: how does this effect the skk reunion and how does it reflect on their previous relationship?

Well, I'm going to pull out some "oh holy shit... I mean, I meant to do that!" Moments

This man is going back and forth like it's his job. He doesn't know what to expect because chuuya is far beyond his comfort zone. Hes everything that should make him predictable, and yet he never is. Every time he's taken aback by his target not reacting the way he "should" he pulls another trick out from his sleeve. Even literally, in the lock picking case. Whenever he needs to try to assert that he totally planned this, he goes for another trick.

As with the dog, when dazai walks away, the only thing chuuya was left with was a distinct sense of "this guy needs friends." They're both low stakes interactions that are born from dazai not expecting something and not knowing how to regain control of the situation.

This implies that dazai just doesn't know how to deal with a straightforward person and thus can never predict what chuuya will do, because he runs on an unswayable internal logic that makes him as difficult to manipulate as a human can possibly be.

As a partnership, they're constantly confusing the fuck out of each other, because dazai is weird and eats dog treats, and because chuuya cannot be understood with the logic dazai excels in.

They know each other but they can never hope to understand each other.

Finally an sskk face off since the sacrifice. I am going insane. I can’t articulate all my thoughts rn but something about the way Atsushi aimed a kick at Akutagawa that he fully expected the guy to block (because they know each other’s usual fighting styles!!!) only for it to connect and hurt him; Atsushi begging Akutagawa to recognize him because even if he still can’t consciously admit it, Atsushi has become convinced that Akutagawa wouldn’t be attacking him like this if he knew it was him; pleading for him to snap out of it and demanding to know why he saved him aghhhhh I’m going feral we know the reason Atsushi we know whyyyyy

I can’t believe it actually. We are at the point where sskk do not want to genuinely hurt each other. Atsushi attacked only out of self defence and was taken aback by actually breaking his wrist. Akutagawa refused to kill Atsushi in the Fukuchi fight and Atsushi is now convinced he’d stop attacking if he recognized him. Holy shit. Oh my god.

And Sigma badass moment! My boy, he pulled through! Either him or Chuuya had to break the stalemate; hell yeah, validation. Wasn’t there a meme someone made? “Prison arc -> prison arc if Sigma still had a gun”? Well Sigma’s got a gun and things are picking up babyyyy! His retort to Fyodor was quite possibly the funniest thing he could’ve said in response. Just completely shut him down. Using what he’s learned running the empty home Fyodor previously tried to buy his trust with. Beautiful. ADA Sigma real??? (I think the story will have to acknowledge his very public involvement with Taneda’s shooting and the acts of terrorism the Hunting Dogs now know he is responsible for… so I’m not sure how that will go but I’d like to see him end up with the Agency tbh… so long as it makes sense.)

Things I did not expect:

Mysterious note left in Russian??? It could be Mykola I suppose but… why? What happened? If he’s actually in trouble I doubt he’d need help escaping. Is it a trap? But what for? Alternatively… could it be Pushkin? He was in Meursault initially right? We never found out what his connection was. It could be a new Russian author too! Intriguing! There’s also the matter of it being written in Russian in the first place - who is it meant for? Sigma specifically? Or is it meant for someone else who speaks Russian?

Dazai is actually injured! I was certain he had something ready to get out on his own but I like this much better. Tbh I know this sounds bad but I’m actually way more invested now that Dazai has a broken leg and Fyodor was just shot. There’s higher stakes, you know? Damn though. I think Dazai’s injuries are. Worse. He’s being terribly self-sacrificial, and is apparently going to face off against Chuuya next time we see him. I do think now the stakes would be too low if Chuuya was completely free of the brainwashing tbh… I’m hoping for a double “I know you’re in there” fight between skk and sskk. Not that Dazai can do much physically but his strength has always been with words anyways, and I am certain Chuuya’s already fighting back. And I know Atsushi will reach Akutagawa. Manifesting sskk reunion where they challenge Fukuchi again and win this time via the power of unbreakable trust (delusional).

Sigma asks Fyodor “WHAT are you?” Which is interesting, and I’m hoping will acknowledge the way Fyodor doesn’t seem to age… but also intriguing is the “getting closer” part on the side which implies he’s not quite right. I think Fyodor will still turn out to be human tbh (it’d be weird otherwise, thematically), but now I’m starting to lend a little more weight to that theory about a Fyodor double…

Well anyways. This was a lot. I’m going to helplessly whir about it for a bit now.

Why do people downplay Chuuyas role in Dazais life so much and why do they mischaracterize him a lot?

They also make it seem like Chuuya is nothing without Dazai as if he doesn't have his own set of colleagues and friends that have nothing to do with Dazai.

I hate those fics where they make Chuuya be extra sad and full on break down mode after Dazai leaves because that's so OC. They focus on the Oda-Dazai thing to make it seem tragic but do they forget this is Nakahara Chuuya who made a deal with the devil (Dazai/Port Mafia) just so his "friends" who stabbed him in the back could be safe?? He wouldn't blink if Dazai left cause of Oda cause he, of all people, knows the importance of friendship.

The death of his group of friends cemented his place in the Mafia while the death of Oda made Dazai leave.

ngl skk shippers who make Chuuya unnecessarily dependent on Dazai and act like he's some uwu gay sad boy make me so mad. No one mischaracterizes Chuuya more than skk shippers.

The last line you wrote is so true. I personally think Chuuya was simply mad at Dazai for leaving without a word, to hold him in such low regard that he thought Chuuya wouldn't understand why he was leaving. But maybe he was a bit sad too. Was their bond so unimportant to Dazai that instead of leaving a letter, he left a bomb? Did he not consider him a friend? Was all these years of partnership just an act? All that.

(my delulu ass also believes they actually stayed in contact after Dazai left. The dungeon reunion did not feel like a reunion.)

As for your first question, why do people mischaracterize Chuuya so much? It's because 1) you'll be surprised how many bsd stans are literal kids with undeveloped media literacy, 2) the bsd wiki page sucks. People read the light novels with their eyes closed and 3) there are weird shippers who only watch this show to fetishize the gay ships and they have the worst takes ever. You and I can't do anything about it unfortunately.

ALSO the idea of chuuya having made the room for dazai before he left hurts so much. Like if they were to the point that chuuya felt like he'd be able to spoil his baby that much without him being too overwhelmed and THEN they get separated hurts my heart too much to think about.

We're just throwing around thoughts here, so do you think it's more likely for PM skk or 22 skk to get to that point? I personally think dazai needs the ADA to settle in to regressing no matter chuuya's efforts because the PM is no place for a baby and I don't think dazai would ever get comfortable while close to mori. I think it would make 22 skk's reunion so much more bitter sweet because chuuya DID do everything right and dazai DID do his best to let chuuya help him and they loved each other (however you want to view that love) but there was no way that arrangement could have gone on long term healthily in that environment. I would absolutely adore the idea of chuuya playing with the idea of building a room for dazai in his head before he left and then once they reunite him dropping everything to get it done because that's His Baby and now that he's in a safe place he deserves everything chuuya can give him <3

Purely just for organizing reasons, agere and deaging gotta be separated. While both lovely, they’re sisters not twins and shouldn’t be grouped together 🩷 I’m glad to see them separated as well

I definitely think 22 skk will reach the point of Dazai having a regression room in Chuuya’s house. They’ll get a few furniture pieces before Dazai leaves like a rocking chair, but I think post 22 reunion after they’ve kinda fallen back into a routine again is when the room happens.

Shortly after they discuss Chuuya being Dazai’s caregiver again, they also set up the weekly regression sessions. Chuuya picks Dazai up from work for maybe the third time since their reunion, and while sitting on Chuuya’s bed Dazai notices the rocking chair is gone and his desk is shoved awkwardly into the corner of the bedroom.

Chuuya then takes Dazai into the old office room and it’s been completely transformed, the boring white walls are a soft pastel blue, and there’s a big circular rug that looks like the ocean. The familiar rocking chair is in the corner, next to a shelf with picture books. There’s a set of drawers where Chuuya has moved all Dazai’s baby clothes, and there’s a starfish night light. In the corner is a crib with matching ocean sheets, and a mobile with different fish.

Dazai would definitely probably feel overwhelmed at first and like he doesn’t deserve any of this, but Chuuya just wants to show Dazai his feelings haven’t changed and he really means it when he says he loves him 🥺 Chuuya’s serious and committed and Dazai doesn’t have to move in but he always has a place here with Chuuya, and after a good cry session Chuuya puts Dazai down for a nap in his new crib and maybe sits on the floor and stays with the baby while he sleeps to make sure he’s okay and not too scared in the crib 🥺

OK. SO. You know how Dazai is Not having a good time rn.... like bro is seeing the pearly gates. And Chuuya (who is not in control of his own body) is on his way to kill him via Fyodor's orders.

NOW, many people, including myself... ARE SO EXCITED FOR THIS SKK REUNION!!! like... so many monumental things abouta possibly happen. SUCH AS (list off the top of my head): 1. Chuuya bite Dazai vampire style and that nullifies the curse. Aha. i can imagine the edits now. (and to see that animated at some point.. ough) 2. Skk beats up Fyodor double black style ;) 3. Skk bantering that we have missed so so so much 4. Chuuya potentially faking being vampire, lifting his hat up, and looking at Dazai... "You missed me?" OR "You look like shit. Now, I don't think Dazai is going to die. But. It a possibility that we cannot ignore.... and I've got some angst that it can cause. Like. Agh. This is the reason I'm making this post; I want to shock others with fear. Fear that I don't want to suffer through alone. NOW, MY ANGSTY LIST FOR HOW THIS SKK INTERACTION MIGHT PLAY OUT:

Fyodor calls back vampire Chuuya (Sigma situation) and he doesn't make it to Dazai in time and Dazai dies Alone. (I don't think this is going to happen at like. All. But it could! Maybe!)

Turns out Chuuya is faking being vampire, but he gets to Dazai and it's too late to do anything (poison kicks in, bro bleeds out, etc.) He dies in his arms! ^^

Chuuya is forced to activate corruption, Dazai can't save him because BROKEN LEGS and both Chuuya and Dazai die (i will stop reading bsd.

Chuuya kills Dazai as a vampire, the curse isn't nullified (FYODOR is the one who sent Chuuya there afterall) and this is when we get Really Angsty: (1) It's obvious that Chuuya and Dazai care for each other on some level, even if you don't ship them. Chuuya would be killing somebody that he cares about, and he would probably blame himself for it. Dazai is somebody that he has known for SEVEN YEARS!! That shit would HURT!! The sheep, flags, all of his subordinates that have died on the field, now Dazai. (2) NOW as for DAZAI!! If I remember correctly, Dazai says something along the lines of "Everything I want I lose" or something like that, right?? Now. Imagine this. Dazai, someone who craves death and constantly tries to commit suicide, dies. OK so what?? No. I think that Dazai very much wants to try and stay alive, it's hinted at multiple times (15 novel, his character song, a much happier life with the ADA in contrast to the mafia, etc.). Let's circle back to what I said earlier, "Everything I want I lose." Dazai goes full circle from wanting to die -> wanting to live -> dying. It hurts and it would prove what Dazai thinks/thought is right!! Everything he wants, he can't have! (Also, cherry on top. He hates pain!! He would be dying a very, very painful death.
