Deirdre Headcanon: Appearance

This is long and rambly!  If you think you’ve read this before on my other blog, I have since added some thoughts re: hair care so it’s worth another peek!

First off, I imagine Deirdre as a Renoir nude as far as body type.  Soft, curvy, cute lil tummy, lounging around naked in a forest for some reason.  She’s very huggable.  Adorable!

That out of the way, I want to talk about her fashion and costume design.  I just think clothing as a way to show character development is so sexy.  Let’s talk about it!

There is basic Deirdre.  This is her default look, the one you see in game and in official art.  She’s a forest fairy.  Everything is loose and flowy.  She likes to wear white and purples.  Big ol’ bell sleeves.  Very ethereal.  Cottage core.  Fabrics like cotton and linen, nothing super fancy or extravagant.  Maybe some silk like a silk chiffon for the cape just for that extra flowly drapey look.  This is how she likes to dress and feels the most comfortable.  Let up to her own devices this is what she would choose.  She doesn’t feel like she needs to be particularly fancy or fashionable.  She’s secluded in a forest, ya feel me?  But she very much lives up to her reputation as the Maiden of the Spirit Forest.

Forest Maiden Deirdre doesn’t do much of anything extra with her hair or makeup.  Like she bathes in a lake under the moonlight with a bar of homemade soap.  This woman is lucky as hell she’s been blessed with fantastic hair genes because I for sure cannot imagine taking care of all of that.  It just does not occur to her to go out of her way to do anything fancy.  Strictly natural beauty.

When she is married to Sigurd, she keeps this same Look.

Then good ol’ Manfroy comes and takes away her agency and any control she once had over her own life (which really isn’t much).  So then I come in and take away any control she has over her own clothing expression!  Hurray!

Deirdre wakes up in Belhalla and evolves into her goth form.  She’s not just a weird forest hermit anymore, she’s a princess and princesses deserve the latest fashions.  Her gowns are made with high end luxury fabrics as well.  Expensive velvets and brocades and everything is high quality silk.  Goth Queen for a Goth King!  I imagine Arvis spoiling her and buying her all sorts of nice things since she comes to him with literally nothing.  She starts to dress like he does.  Everything is reds and blacks and it is very obvious that she is his wife now.  They match.  Aw!  Her clothes get more form fitting and sexier.  She’s not loose and flowy anymore.  She doesn’t dislike her new fits but she also wouldn’t pick them out for herself if she was out shopping.  She does like being matchy matchy though she thinks its cute.

Deirdre the royal has ladies maids who help her bathe and dress.  Her hair is washed with the finest soaps and really cared for.  I imagine forest Deirdre’s hair is more puffy and frizzy, out of control.  But then she is found in Belhalla and with proper care and maintenance, her curls have more definition.  I think there is sor of a push for her hair to be done up in fancy, elaborate updos but she puts her foot down there.  She doesn’t know why she prefers her hair down and free but she does.  For formal occasions like balls and things, she will relent and allow her hair to be styled.

I loooove this look from the Oosawa manga soooo much.  Its so freaking good look at her!

I see Deirdre becoming a fashion icon in Grannvale after her wedding with Arvis.  She is this beautiful, mysterious woman with no past who appears out of nowhere and is suddenly the lost princess.  She marries a hottie duke.  Like hello she’s going to be the talk of the town!  There is no way women all over aren’t trying to emulate her looks.  She’s living out every little girl’s dream of growing up to be a beautiful princess after coming from nothing.  Even if it’s not really Deirdre’s preferred choice in clothing, you just know the Princess Deirdre look catches on.  First probably in the courts but, into her role as empress, I imagine the regular folks start adopting her style as well.  That’s just how it goes with celebs and shit.
