Love Me, Love You
slightly not safe for wombats for the make out at the end.
May 14
Just past noon. It was muggier than usual this early in May. The air seemed thicker in Kamurocho, like the concrete jungle had its own breath that exhaled, separate from the millions that resided inside it.
Kashiwagi rifled through his pants pocket in search of his house keys. It had been a frustrating morning that he called off the rest of his workload, shuffling it onto others in the Kazama family.
Nishikiyama was still struggling managing his newly granted family and it heaved more onto him and Kazama. Subordinates poaching in areas that weren't their territory, grunts essentially giving their patriarch a big "fuck you."
It had already been brought up once, and after Kashiwagi laid down the law on Nishiki, Jyou tore into him. That was a couple weeks back and she was still being a little frosty about it, which added to his pissy attitude; yet it was the least of his worries.
"I'm home." He mumbled through a sigh. He kicked off his shoes and put the umbrella he carried in the caddy by the door.
He and Jyou lived with their two children in an up-scale fifth floor apartment in Kamurocho's residential area that the two bought outright. The living and kitchen area was open and spacious. Jyou had her mother's help with how to furnish the place, both he and she were useless when it came to interior decorating.
Following the walkway that divided the living room and kitchen, Kashiwagi stripped off his suit jacket. He flopped down on the couch, loosening his tie. He already had a habit of running his fingers over the arm of the couch, the feeling of that dove gray suede a comfort.
Bogged down and wound too tight. Home was his current comfort. No bullshit getting rammed into his ears about collections or rival clans, decorum and honor.
The common sounds at home were music, laughter, lively conversation when Jyou had the band over. Wakaba muttering to herself if she was in the kitchen practicing her cooking. The vast array of sounds from crabby to jubilee that Kyrie could produce. Happy sounds. Normal sounds.
The only sound he heard at present was music. Looking to his left out of the bermuda windows that lead to the balcony he saw the top of Jyou's head over the cabana style couch.
Taking a deep breath Kashiwagi ran his hands over his face, rubbing away that weird, tight, and weary feeling that seemed to physically cover the skin like a residue and got back to his feet.
As he went, he unlooped his tie from around his neck and tossed it behind him, letting it fall where it may.
The afternoon sun was bright as it drizzled. The dingy gray clouds were a contrast to the bright blue sky behind them. Jyou had made herself comfortable, pushing the couch they kept on the balcony closer to the railing so she could prop her feet up. She had Wakaba's little boombox beside her on the side table, playing one of her eldest daughter's CDs. Jyou wasn't doing anything in particular, she had a worn paperback in her lap but had yet to read from it.
Kashiwagi watched the light rain hit Jyou's feet and run up her ankles, the occasional droplet surviving the journey long enough to follow along her shin bone. The polish on her toes was a deep vivid blue that shifted green in the right light. The blue matched the roots of her dyed hair.
It was a recent change, black hair with blue roots. Kashiwagi thought the color suited her, but he did make the mistake of kissing the top of her head when she had gotten out of the shower and ended up with blue dye on his mouth. Jyou laughed the entire time as she made a concoction of baking soda and dish soap to wipe it off. She had to use cotton swabs to keep it out of his mouth.
He sat down on the couch beside her, sliding down onto his tailbone and resting his head on the back cushion.
"Thought you'd be out, aren't you recording right now?" He asked.
Jyou rolled her head to face him and opened one eye, squinting the other. He looked at her and already he felt a little better. It looked like she hadn't done anything today. She was still wearing what she had slept in, the black tank top and worn to butter soft pajama shorts with the donki penguins on them. No make up, not even her piercings. Just her freckles and the rosy hue on her cheeks she always groused over.
He never loved Jyou more than when she didn't bother to do anything. It was when she was at her most content he thought.
"Shobu is taking care of it. I've already laid down my vocals so she's giving me the day off."
He nodded as he reached into the breast pocket of his shirt and pulled out his cigarettes. He smoked Hi-lite brand cigarettes, but since Kyrie was born he had been trying to quit. Being frank, he wasn't doing a very good job. In two years he had weaned himself from the filtered originals to the special mild. They tasted like shit, but it was better than being that asshole who chewed gum all day; like a cow masticating in a field.
The breeze picked up, bringing the rain down faster, sun hiding behind a bloated rain cloud. Jyou kept her feet up and stretched, the droplets cool on her feet. Kashiwagi watched her toes spread, his brow clicking up once quizzically. He couldn't figure out what she enjoyed about it, but didn't mention it.
"Where are the girls?" He still had the cigarette pack in his hand, rotating the white and blue pack in his hand.
Jyou watched the blue curls of smoke dance off the end of his light. His exhale was slow, most of the smoke leaving through his nose. Jyou figured he was trying to savor whatever taste he could get out of them, maybe if he rotated the pack with it would create a full flavor.
"Goro came and looted them for the night." She replied, running her hand through her hair.
He scowled at that. "What for?"
Jyou raised her brows and smiled. She finally took her feet off the railing and shuffled over, closing the gap between them. Kashiwagi followed her lead and raised his arm up so she could tuck herself against him. He took another drag and turned his head to keep the smoke from getting in her face.
Jyou wrapped her arms around his midsection, placing her head in the crook of his neck.
"It's his birthday today. You'll never guess where they're going."
He snorted, pinching the lit end he quickly ground out his smoke and chunked into the coffee can they kept outside specifically for the butts.
"Could be anything with Majima. What, Disneyland?" His tone was sarcastic, he had a horrifyingly vivid image of The Mad Dog running all over the park with mouse ears on. His next thought was what if he gets the group banned and later Kashiwagi will have to explain to his daughter how she got put on a no entry list as a two year old.
Jyou whistled and gave him a squeeze. "Sometimes I think you've got a crystal ball somewhere on you, babydoll. That was a great guess."
Putting the pack back in his pocket he relaxed, his scarred cheek on the top of Jyou's head.
"Wasn't being serious." He chuckled, bending the arm around her shoulders up and lightly brushing back strands of her hair.
"I think he just wants the girls to have a good time." Jyou mused.
"Speaking of good times, you're home early, so I take it you are not having one?" Her tone was light.
That was a conversation he didn't want to have. Some of his current issues were directly connected to Nishikiyama, and he didn't want a rehash of their argument in his office. Kashiwagi didn't have to say anything. His silence and silent sigh was indicator enough. But there wasn't anything he could say to her that would change her perspective of his actions.
For all her complaints about him favoring Kiryu, her favoring Nishikiyama evened the scales in his mind. In Jyou's mind, her favoring Nishiki did not even out any scales. She wasn't a yakuza, her favor did not hold any weight where it mattered.
Jyou wasn't ready to be in a bad mood over it again either, so she didn't ask him to elaborate.
The silence between them was loud. Kashiwagi decided to cut through it.
"It's not just Nishiki. It's just a fucking shit show in every direction right now." He did not specify that he meant his own personal fears and worries.
"I see. I'm sorry." She replied. That was about all she could say. Jyou was always curious and willing to listen, but Kashiwagi liked keeping in depth yakuza affairs off her ears.
Kashiwagi looked at Jyou's wet footprints on the concrete. The heat already began to fade the prints. A morbid thought shot through his mind and made his blood run cold.
Jyou felt him go rigid in her arms. She sat up and gazed at him with concern.
He glanced at her then averted his eyes just as fast. He reached into his pocket and pulled out another cigarette. Kashiwagi needed the movement of hand to mouth to occupy his thoughts to keep from spinning further down the drain.
Jyou watched as his thumb hit the striker on the side of his Dunhill with practiced deftness. Despite the Kazama family being a main family and having amassed wealth, Kashiwagi presented himself modestly and unassumingly. That lighter, a 1970s vintage in solid 18k gold, had cost a little under ¥95,000. It was the only flashy item he carried, and he didn't even buy it. Jyou did for their second anniversary years previous.
"You wanna tell me what just walked over your grave?" She asked. She turned to face him fully, folding one leg in and bent the other up to her chest.
She waited and quietly watched him smoke. To Jyou, Kashiwagi exuded masculinity when he smoked. Cool and composed, the light gently held at the top joint of his first and second fingers. Jyou thought he was a little like DeNiro in the way he carried himself.
Kashiwagi remained silent. The fading of her footprint on the warm concrete. It felt like an omen, a grim that haunted behind him as he left the house each day. That she would suddenly be gone. When they first got serious it would creep along the edges of his mind, but it had grown substantially worse since having Kyrie.
He feared losing them. It didn't matter how. Just that they would be gone and he'd be left with shadows that had yet to fully evaporate.
As he brought his cigarette back to his lips Jyou leaned over and swiped it from him. He paused for a moment before turning to meet the impish smile on her face as she took a short drag off it.
"You shouldn't, you know that." He said sternly.
Her eyes narrowed as she propped her arm on the back of the couch. Holding the cigarette between her first two fingers, Jyou ran the tip of her thumb along the side of her ring finger.
"A single smoke isn't going to wreck my voice…not that there's anything to inhale on these damn things." She quickly pointed her smoking hand at Kashiwagi like it was a loaded gun. "Talk to me, sweetface."
She said "sweetface" in English. His own had improved markedly over the years together. But along with several other adoring pet names she had for him, they were what he knew with perfect practice. Unfortunately that wasn't exactly a skill he could use outside of his own home.
The rain had begun to taper off as the sun showed once more through the clouds. A beam lit up the side of her face. The light got caught in her eyes, the bursts of green that peppered her light brow irises glowed. It felt like she was looking right through him, hypnotizing him with those charming eyes.
Jyou went to take another drag but Kashiwagi swiped it back from her. She wrinkled her nose for a moment but smiled.
Tongue wetting his lips Kashiwagi decided to just say what was on his mind, however it came out.
"If I quit the outfit, would you marry me?"
"Hm? You mean the yakuza?" Her hand reached around her neck to pull her hair over one shoulder.
"What does one have to do with the other?"
"You're saying that's not why you won't marry me?"
Her eyes boggled for a second incredulously.
"Osamu, we have a two year old" Her tone was flat with sarcasm. To her it was obvious that if she had an issue with being a yakuza, she wouldn't have an entire baby toddling around the apartment with him.
The house; she had agreed to go halves on and buy with Kashiwagi. A Home. It was theirs for all time. And for Jyou, it was the biggest commitment she had ever made. This home was her symbol of dedication and love to Kashiwagi. She had her reasons to not bind herself to a romantic partner. To have made this step should have been clear…or so she thought.
"I think I'm confused about what you're asking me? Are you asking me, do I love you? Because that should speak for itself." Jyou threw the conversation back to his corner.
He sighed in frustration. That wasn't even remotely what he meant. Kashiwagi sat forward, elbows on his knees. He took a long draw off his cigarette, Jyou watched the smoke ghost from his mouth.
"There's just…advantages to it. Legal ones, and my own peace of mind."
Jyou could see anxiety creep into his handsome profile by the way he frowned and his brows knotting together.
"Are things that bad right now?" She asked softly.
His head clicked once to the side. "Not yet, but it feels like there's something coming. I can't tell if it's my own paranoia or not."
Kashiwagi finished the cigarette and tossed the but in the can then sat back.
"What if something happens to you, I have no legal right to your care. Or Wakaba, what would happen if you're on tour and Majima and Makoto-san aren't available? I can't…I can't protect either of you."
His jaw ached as he swallowed back a lump of emotion. Kashiwagi took a slow exhale through his nose and rubbed his eyes with the base of his hand. He was exhausted with carrying his worries, and it felt good to release some of them.
There were other things he could say. Like that it pissed him off that Makoto had a legal right to Wakaba and he didn't. That wasn't her fault, but it still chapped Kashiwagi. He could demand Jyou tell him the real reason for her apprehension to marriage, but he knew from the last time they discussed the topic that it wasn't wise.
Jyou had thorns in her eyes the last time. It didn't have time to grow into a full blown argument. Kashiwagi saw the thorns and behind them a deep wound that he wouldn't aggravate. That's when they had settled on moving in together instead.
A silence hung on the two of them, the CD Jyou had been listening to ending. Kashiwagi could see out of his peripheral Jyou looking out at the Kamurocho skyline, her tongue playing with her bottom lip. She usually did it while fiddling with her labret piercing, but as she didn't have it in, it looked odd.
There was nothing to really say. It was an inevitable stalemate. Anything he or she could say would just end up hurting the other.
Jyou unfolded herself and crawled over to Kashiwagi. Without a word she put herself in his lap, one leg slipping over his, straddling his hips. She gave him a soft smile as she reached up and brushed his hair off his forehead. Kashiwagi placed a hand on her waist, holding her close against him.
"I know you want to ask, but I don't want to talk about it right now. I will tonight, I promise."
Kashiwagi nodded, brushing her hair off her shoulder. Fingers ghosting along her freckled shoulder up her neck to cup her face, thumb brushing along the apple of her cheek. Jyou let go of the tiniest of laughs as his other fingers touched her ear and made it tickle. Tucking her head to the side she leaned in to kiss him.
Kashiwagi sighed in contentment as her lips pressed with his. Her kiss was tender, as if in apology for being unable to express herself. The tips of her fingers skimmed down the side of his face, making him blush at the delicate touch.
"I do love you, Osamu." She murmured against his mouth as she kissed him with more fervor this time.
His breath was shaky as she pulled away to catch her own. Kashiwagi's heart was pounding already from one deep kiss. From their very first kiss Kashiwagi knew he could never love another woman. Jyou completely upended him.
"I know, I love you back." He said, his voice soft as he tried to get his bearings
He watched her cheeks redden, eyes sparkling. Jyou's tongue just barely peeked out from her mouth, slowly gliding between her lips. She was thinking.
"When was our first date?" Her hands began to work the buttons of his shirt. She stopped midway, slipping her hands inside and gliding over his shoulder and down his chest.
It was hard to think, her touch made his body hot and head spin. Jyou kissed along down his neck, sweet and featherlight. Kashiwagi gave a little sigh as he rolled his head to the side to give her free reign.
"March…hm..ninety-three." he could barely get the words out as her kisses became harsher, the slight nip of her teeth on his throat before she sucked away the sting.
His fingers tangled in her hair, having a turn of smothering her in kisses. Jyou giggled as his lips ghosted over her ear before kissing along her jaw. She wrapped her arms loosely around his shoulders, humming happily as he laid damp kisses over the top of her breasts. Jyou felt the flame low in her belly as his hands slipped under her tank top, caressing the shape of her body. Kashiwagi's hands were warm and a little dry, a comforting feeling that made Jyou buzz with want.
"I'll make you a promise." She panted, taking him by the chin to look him in the eye.
Kashiwagi moved a lock of hair out of her face. "What?"
"Unless I change my mind, and do it sooner - no matter what, I'll marry in March, 2013."
He scoffed with a bemused smile. "You'll make me wait fifteen more years?"
"If you can stand to love me that long." She said.
Kashiwagi rested his hand on the back of her neck, guiding her into another kiss. Lips parted he delved deep, his tongue weaving with hers. His heart felt it might break his ribs. It was pounding so hard. It was such a silly thing of her to say. Loving Jyou, their life together, it was easy.
He smoothed her hair before once more cupping her face. Their noses brushing against each others, lips a whisper apart, ready to come back together.
"As long as I live."

Seeking to Seize Chapter 17
AO3
‘Is this really the time to be worrying about a school festival?’
Yosuke has the nerve to look offended. ‘The team needs the morale, Partner! As long as we keep checking the Midnight Channel, what’s the harm?’ They’re in Yu’s uncle’s living room doing homework, and even though Nanako is taking her bath upstairs and his uncle is at work, Yosuke keeps using sign language. It makes Yu feel warm. ‘You could use a distraction, too. I can tell how stressed you’ve been lately.’
Yu sighs, because Yosuke’s right. All this waiting makes him antsy. He almost wishes the killer would make a move so they could get a lead. But that’s probably a bad thing to hope for, so he doesn’t bring it up. Instead, he signs, ‘Is that why you signed the girls up for the pageant?’
‘The only other two people signed up were Hanako and Kashiwagi-sensei.’
Yu makes a face that makes Yosuke laugh. ‘Are teacher even allowed to do that?’
Yosuke shrugs. ‘There’s no rule against it. I think Kashiwagi-sensei is the only one who’s ever tried.’
‘How does she even still have a job?’ Yu asks. ‘If she were a male teacher, she would’ve been fired a long time ago.’
‘King Moron didn’t exactly give the school a lot of time to find a replacement. Besides,’ Yosuke adds, ‘we just have to deal with her for a few more months. She won’t be teaching third years next year, so we’re safe there.’
Yu’s heart almost stops. ‘Yosuke,’ he signs, fingers heavy, ‘I won’t be here for our third year. I’m going back to Tokyo.’
Yosuke’s face falls. “Oh, yeah,” he says aloud.
Lighthearted conversation effectively ruined, they return to their homework.
The group date café is just as awkward as Chie thought it would be. She doesn’t even get to sit across from Yukiko because the class rep is here, so she has to look at Kanji instead. At least Kanji’s trying, she thinks, suppressing the urge to glare at the class rep.
Then Yukiko answers a question with, “My favorite hobby is defeating Shadows,” and Chie’s stomach drops. Yosuke rushes to cover it up and Chie, to change the subject, says the girls will ask the next question. Yukiko asks, “What kind of girls do you like?”
Yu, who has been a little downtrodden, looks Yosuke in the eyes and signs, ‘Yosuke.’
Yosuke goes red and averts his eyes.
‘You didn’t seem too surprised about the crossdress pageant,’ Yukiko signs to Yu as they walk to the home ec. room to ghim changed. They’ve already done his make-up (not that he needed much—he’s pretty for a boy) and borrowed a silver wig from the drama club room. All that’s left is finding the perfect outfit.
Yu signs, ‘I figured some revenge was coming. Yosuke really railroaded you guys, and Kanji and I didn’t try to stop it.’
‘What were you thinking in terms of costume?’ Yukiko asks as she pushes the door to the home ec. room open.
Their eyes fall on it at the same time and they know.
Yosuke feels exposed in a way he really doesn’t like. “How do girls wear these?” he hisses at Chie, tugging at the bottom of the pink skirt he’s been forced into. “One wayward breeze and everyone will be able to see my nads!” He bends at the knees to scratch at his shins. “And these socks are itchy as hell!”
Chie gives him a quick smack on the arm. “Cut that out! You’ll flash everyone!”
“Well, you should’ve given me a longer skirt!”
“Stop complaining! I have to wear a bathing suit in front of the entire school thanks to you!”
“You’re scaring the emcee,” Rise says, a laughing tone in her voice, and Yosuke and Chie turn around and see her walking up the short set of stairs leading from the floor to the stage, leading Kanji who is, for some reason, dressed like Marilyn Monroe. His knees are slightly bent and he keeps swinging his hips to watch the white skirt of his dress swirl around him. Yosuke can barely keep himself from laughing.
Chie cranes her neck to look around them. “Where’re Yu and Yukiko?”
Rise shrugs. Kanji says, “Amagi-senpai says it’s gonna be a surprise,” in his usual deep voice, which is extremely inappropriate for his current appearance.
Rise’s phone buzzes, and she laughs when she reads the text. “Teddie is giving Naoto-san some trouble,” she says. “He wants winged eyeliner and they don’t know how to do it.” She flips her phone closed and tilts her head up to look at Kanji. “Do you mind if I run and help? I’ll be sure to vote for you even if I’m not back before the whole thing starts.”
Between the layers of makeup and the dimly-lit backstage it’s hard to tell, but Yosuke things Kanji is blushing. “Go help Naoto-san,” he says. “No one should stand alone against Teddie.”
Rise laughs again and scurries away. Chie glances at her own phone and says, “I better go, too. I gotta save a place for Yukiko when she finally shows up.” She levels a glare at Yosuke. “Don’t flash anyone!”
The emcee doesn’t wait much longer before he starts the pageant, even though Yu and Teddie still haven’t arrived. From his place off stage, Yosuke hears him ask “Kanji-chan,” “What would you say is your best feature?”
“My eyes,” Kanji replies, and the crowd laughs.
“An eloquent heiress of thee noble Junes,” the emcee says, “she’s pure disappointment from the moment she opens her mouth!” Ouch. Rude. “Presenting Yosuke-chan of the second year class two!”
Feeling more awkward than he’s ever felt in his life, Yosuke walks to stand next to Kanji and, meek, says, “Hi.”
The crowd gets noisy again, and Yosuke wants so badly to retreat. Calm yourself, Jiraya says in his mind. This moment will not define you unless you let it. Relax. Let yourself have some fun with this.
He takes a deep breath and nods, mostly to himself. When the emcee asks if he normally dresses like this, he giggles and says, “It’s not my usual style. The skirt is a little too short for my taste.” And this time, when the crowd laughs, Yosuke somehow knows they’re not laughing to be mean—they’re laughing because they think he’s funny.
“We’re laughingstocks up here!” Kanji hisses in his ear over the din.
“No,” says Yosuke, “we’re the only ones with enough balls to go through with this.”
The emcee suddenly brightens. “She has the mildly bitter tang of the city,” he says, “and her lack of a voice has only made her more endearing! Presenting our transfer student who’s been breaking hearts in the second year class two, Yu-chan!”
It’s instinct that drives Yosuke to turn his head, so seek Yu out, and his heart drops when his partner comes into view.
Because Yu looks goddamn beautiful.
It’s obvious he and Yukiko took this more seriously than the others. He’s wearing a light colored kimono detailed with a likeness of Mt. Fuji, and his silver wig has been styled and pinned into place with an ornate hair ornament. He carries himself with a dignity Yosuke didn’t think was possible when crossdressing. How is he so pretty? he asks himself.
Jiraya says, You should tell him how you feel before someone else takes him away from you.
Him being gay doesn’t mean he’ll like me! Yosuke retorts. You’re the one who told me that!
If you think this is the same kind of situation, you are far more oblivious than I thought.
You’re supposed to be on my side here!
I am. You just don’t see it yet.
Then Teddie blazes onto the scene dressed up like Alice in Wonderland, and Yosuke is jarred from his thoughts for the time being.
No one’s particularly surprised when Rise wins the real pageant. She knows the boys and Naoto-san tried to spread their votes evenly between her, Chie-senpai, and Yukiko-senpai, but the rest of the school didn’t care. And, sure, maybe she used some of her Risette charm, but she’s a competitive girl. So sue her.
She and the other girls put their school uniforms back on and they meet up with the rest of the team. Rise grabs one of Kanji’s arms and one of Naoto-san’s, linking them together in a chain. “The festival’s almost over. What should we do now?”
Before anyone can answer her, Yu-senpai’s uncle drops Nanako-chan off with them. She’s delighted; she loves Nanako-chan. Everyone on the team does. It’d be hard not to love such a cute, innocent little girl. Nanako-chan hangs onto Yu-senpai’s pant let as they discuss what to do next, and when Yukiko-senpai offers the inn and hotsprings to them, she smiles hard and wide enough to shame the sun.
Kanji-kun swings Nanako-chan up on his shoulders as they walk to the bus stop, with Naoto-san walking on one side and Rise on the other. “Do you want to take a bath with the girls or with the boys?” Rise asks Nanako-chan.
Nanako-chan screws up her face to think and says, “The girls. Onii-chan already takes a bath with me sometimes if I’m really sad, so I wanna try taking a bath with girls for a change!”
A thought suddenly occurs to Rise and she leans forward to look at Naoto-san. “Who do you feel comfortable bathing with?”
Naoto-san opens their mouth to reply, but Nanako-chan interrupts. “Naoto-niichan should take a bath with the other boys!”
Kanji-kun looks ready to say something when Naoto-san speaks instead. “Nanako-chan,” they say, “I look like a girl, and I dress like a boy, but I don’t feel like either. Since the Amagi Inn only has girl bath times and boy bath times, Rise-san wants to know when I would like to take my bath.”
Nanako-chan seems confused. “If you’re not a boy, I can’t call you Naoto-niichan, and if you’re not a girl, I can’t call you Naoto-neechan. What can I call you, then?”
And Rise can’t help but laugh, because of course that’s what Nanako-chan would be worried about.
There’s something a little strange about Onii-chan’s friends, Nanako thinks.
They’re all very nice! They treat her well, not like a nuisance like her dad’s work friends do sometimes. But none of them really look like they should be friends. Nanako has never seen a TV show where a delinquent becomes friends with an idol, or where the son of a big store like Junes becomes friends with a detective. But her teachers always say not to judge based on looks, so maybe this is actually normal.
Then she gets in the bath with some of them.
It’s the girls’ turn first, so Nanako lets Onii-chan help her into her yukata when they get to the big room everyone is sharing. He smiles at her like he’s saying “Have fun!” and she’s whisked off by the girls and Naoto-san. (Nanako doesn’t like calling them “Naoto-san.” It makes them sound old, like someone her dad would go drinking with. She has to find something else to call them.)
After they wash, Yukiko-neechan helps her put her hair up so it doesn’t get in the hot water. “You can wear your towel in the water,” she says as she tucks one corner of Nanako’s fluffy white towel against her skin to keep it secure, “but you don’t have to.” Nanako notices that Yukiko-neechan’s towel is a lot looser than her’s. She probably won’t wear it in the bath.
Rise-neechan doesn’t even bother wrapping her towel around herself. She just holds it against her front to hide her bathing suit parts. Her skin is really pretty, Nanako notices. Pale, no moles or freckles. Is her skin nice because she’s an idol? Or is she an idol because her skin is nice?
Nanako pauses at the edge of the bath, and, after some deliberation (seeing all the other girls doing it), drops her towel.
Rise-neechan, she sees, is the only one with perfect skin.
It’s not as obvious with Naoto-san, because they’re still wearing their towel, but everyone but Rise-neechan has scars. They’re small, for the most part, little silvery lines almost completely faded. If they weren’t all naked, Nanako would have never noticed. Chie-neechan has the biggest; it’s in the middle of her chest, where a bathing suit that wasn’t a bikini would cover it, and it looks kind of like a burn mark.
No one talks about the scars. They talk about how soft Naoto-san’s skin is, or exams, or the school festival, but no one mentions the scars.
Anything but the scars.
So, yeah, Onii-chan’s friends are a little strange, because the girls and Naoto-san are all so pretty and pretty people shouldn’t have scars.

WEEKLY UPDATE: 23 August 2018.
+ Gibo to Musume no Blues (2018)(6/10) ~ Airing.
This drama is becoming so incredibly heartfelt. I did not expect this drama to tug at my heart strings the way it does, but this drama turns me into a complete mess.
+ Mr. Sunshine (2018)(14/24) ~ Airing.
Gu Dong Mae in these episodes were life. I was so worried about seeing him all bloodied, but he made my day seeing all this fight. Another week passes where I am such a sucker for Go Ae Shin’s Fan Club. They make such unlikely allies; I am just eating it up.
The week’s episodes closed with an interesting predicament. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in episode 15. I am not too worried this week though.
+ My ID is Gangnam Beauty (2018)(8/16) ~ Airing.
I am intrigued to see where they end up taking the rooming situation between Yeon Woo Young and Do Kyung Suk. I expect lots of amazing fan service and bromance in our future.
+ Life (2018)(10/16) ~ Airing.
There has been some interesting developments this week, but I’m still intrigued to see what where this story is ultimately going. I can’t believe we are already more than halfway through and I’m not entirely sure what the dramas is trying to address.
+ Thirty but Seventeen (2018)(18/40) ~ Airing.
This dose of fluff is a nice break from the rest of what I’m watching. I’m not a huge fan of the story and don’t find it incredibly unique, but it’s still nice.
+ Takane no Hana (2018)(6/?) ~ Airing.
There is something so touching about the lead couple. The tenderness they they treat each other just gets me every single time.
+ Survival Wedding (2018)(4/?) ~ Airing.
I am happy to report that episode 4 is really heating things up. Though I don’t know Yoshizawa Ryo so well, he is super cute. I really am enjoying him in his role of Kashiwagi Yuichi. He is certainly very nice to look at.
