To Say Goodbye

Dean still couldn't believe she was gone, not even as he dressed in a suit, not as he drove to the funeral home, not even as he ventured towards the casket.

It was unreal. Grace was dead. Grace was in that casket. How do you even cope with that. He'd never known anyone who killed themselves. No one. Here she was though, his feisty little red head. His sparring partner and mini-Hellion.

He couldn't look her mom in the eyes. How do you look at someone who lost a daughter? Or any child in general.

Reaching out, his fingers brushed over the smooth surface of the casket. After everything that had occurred between her death and now, this seemed like a way to end the chapter, to move on, to finish the job and mourn. 

Bringing his fingers up, he kissed them and laid his hand back down again.

"Sleep well, Gracie. Give the angels hell for me."

Reaching into his pocket, he laid a small bag of protective herbs and amulets in the flowers near her ID card.

So, uh. I heard today that Agent Grace Wilson died.

I think I talked to her once or twice. She was really grumpy, but in kind of an entertaining way.

Now I'm sad or something. It's really annoying.

Our Graceful Wreck

[So, I don't know if she can see this... because I know her account is gone now. I know some people think we didn't care about her, especially with the Pen death thing getting so much of everyone's attention... But that's not true. Because through all this plot, I've been waiting quietly for the day Grace's mother had said the funeral was so he could pay his respects to her. Well, when I went to double check the date the account was already gone but... I want to say it was supposed to be today so... I'll just post this now.]

Sterling stood in his best suit. The very best quality. The most expensive. The one that looked absolute best on him. He stood there in that suit and took a deep breath in and let it slowly out. 

There had been so much hurt and heart ache for the last few days. So much blood and chaos. Screaming, punching, hurting, crying... Even Sterling had been punched in the nose by one of his fellow agents. It was strange having his sister cover it with makeup so the discoloration didn't show up as much. 

But here he was, looking his absolute best.

In his black suit.

Black tie.

Black umbrella. 

White coffin.

Sterling took his place next to... No... No, he couldn't think time. He always stood next to Penelope during funerals. Or, he used to when they had to. Now he didn't even have her. Now it was just... He felt so alone. Even in this crowd of people he knew and loved. People he trusted and cared for. 

He felt alone.

"Grace..." Sterling whispered as he looked down at the coffin, numbed to emotion to get himself through the service. The rain poured down upon the white polished surface, the flowers laid upon it glistening with moisture. He felt Emma shiver from the cold to his right and instantly pulled her in with one arm to hug her, warm her, keep her dry, and comfort her all in one swift motion. 

He remembered the day he hired Grace. The day he interviewed her. He remembered how passionate she was about helping people because of her brother. He remembered how much hiring her meant to him because it was an assignment directly from Coulson himself. How he wanted to look after her... but his abduction had changed him, and not for the better. He pushed people away and because of his own suffering he failed to see hers.

Failed to see...

He remembered how brave she had been when she was kidnapped. How brave she ALWAYS was. Stubborn... Pigheaded at times. He couldn't deny that.

And he smirked fondly at the memory of it. 

She didn't get along well with some of the other agents. Especially Pen--... He swallowed and held Emma a little tighter against him. 

After a while he stepped forward and pulled something out of his pocket. 

Her deactivated ID card.

Gently he placed it on her coffin among the flowers.

Grace would like to attend swimming. Even if he’s a bro, he’s just nice abs.

He wouldn't mind the company, even if she couldn't keep up with it. He does a lot of his workouts alone. Except for boxing and sparring, but he has few partners for that because they can't keep up with the pace.

I don’t understand why people would send hate. It’s one of the reasons why I stopped letting my characters free. I applaud to Grace’s mun for being brave in doing something like that and to you too for writing this message.
