the "I have something to confess, I'm in love with you" "wait I thought we were already dating?" trope but Zestious
Because let's be real folks, Sir Pentious is a fucking idiot, his ass would NOT realize that he had a boyfriend, like he's the kind to miss every single hint that a person could make and assume they're just "good friends" and in Sir Pentious's defense it's not like Zestial actually told him they were dating, he just started treating Sir Pentious as his boyfriend and assumed he just knew because it was obvious they were dating
And I mean it was obvious, (although he still should've told him, kinda a dick move not to) Zestial would buy him nice gifts, take him on romantic dates, tell him how pretty and smart he is, and get much more......touchy than a friend would.
But to again defend Sir Pentious, he doesn't really have friends, so he just doesn't have a reference to what is a totally normal platonic level of affection and what is your overlord crush friend feeling you up in the back of a carriage because he thinks you're dating.
Also this gets funnier the longer this miscommunication goes on, like imagine this happening for decades. Zestial probably just thinks that Sir Pentious wants to take things really slow
This comes to a head when Sir Pentious moves into the hotel, (which Zestial is definitely NOT jealous of, it's not like he had hoped his boyfriend would move in with him, not at allllllll) and Zestial starts picking him up for their hangouts (dates), while Sir Pentious may not realize the other hotel residents absolutely do, especially Angel Dust he's really good at sniffing out sexual tension people who are a biiiiiiit to close to just be friends
i imagine it going something like:
Angel Dust: soooo,.. how long ya been with ol' tall dark n' scary? Sir Pentious: oh Zesssstial? I've known him for about 90 yearssss, why? Angel Dust: what's he like in bed?~ Sir Pentious: *offended British gasp* mussst you be ssso perverssse?! I've NEVER sssslept with Zessstial! Angel Dust: WOW I can't imagine datin' someone for that long an' not puttin' out Sir Pentious: *scoffs* I'm not dating Zessstial Angel Dust: what? yes ya are! ya don't hav ta hide ya relationships from me new guy Sir Pentious: well, I'm not hiding anything! Zessstial and I are sssimply clossse friendsss Angel Dust: no, you're not Penni, do you see how much he spends on ya? he bought ya a corset that cost more than I make in a year! nobody's spending that much on a dude they ain't trying to fuck Sir Pentious: do YOU see how much he makesss? that wasss hardly anything to him, we are jussst friendssss Angel Dust: suuuuuuure you're just friends, that's why he's always touchin' ya waist an' lookin' at you're ass Sir Pentious: *flustered snake noises* HE DOESSS NOT YOU PERVERT, *pinches the bridge of his nose(?) and sighs loudly* and I already told you, we.are.just.friendsssss Angel Dust: wow you're stupid, ya know that new guy?
Later Sir Pentious told Zestial about the conversation he had with Angel because it was ridiculous who would even think that they were dating? then Zestial informs him that HE thought they were dating as well.
Sir Pentious deals with the sudden realization that his long-term crush not only likes him back but thought they were already together and didn't tell him? after all, how was he supposed to know drunken make out sessions weren't a normal activity for besties? (sure, he didn't do that with his hotel friends, nor did he want to, but how was he supposed to knooooow)
While Zestial grapples with the horror that his long-term boyfriend didn't know that he was his long-term boyfriend, I mean it makes sense in retrospect but still he can't believe that he's in love with this idiot (it's like entirely Zestial's fault that Sir Pentious didn't know but shhhhhhh)

Note
I was just thinking about how from my recollection, every time Chazz does anything bad/questionable at any point it's because he's under the influence of or being straight up controlled by someone else.
Like everything he does pre school duel he does because his brothers still have him in the palm of their hands and he has to put up this front and this hard shelled persona to cope with the pressure and it drives him to make some decisions that could be considered bad, like throwing Bastion's cards into the ocean for example. But even then, he never does anything particularly major, he's just a struggling kid desperate to earn his brothers' approval and respect and prove that he's worthy of the family name because they're constantly berating him and putting him down and telling him that he isn't if he doesn't do things their way and behave the way they want him to and do what they want him to and it's too much for him to carry. And his brothers are so much older than him and he's a 15 year old kid, so they hold a lot of weight over him, what they say and what they think of him matters to him.
But then there's season 2, where all the bad things he does that everyone is mad at him for even after he returns and holds against him, like turning Alexis and honestly the majority of the school, he only does because he's been brainwashed and is being controlled by Sartorius. He doesn't even remember anything between being defeated by Sartorius and waking up during the duel with Jaden, Sartorius saw a confused kid looking for a new purpose and took him to serve his the Light of Destruction's needs because he was a powerful duelist and a vulnerable, easy target.
And on a slightly sillier note, even stealing the Spirit Keys back at the end of season 1 which is kinda not a great thing to do ultimately was Atticus's idea personally I think Atticus knew the plan wasn't going to work and set Chazz up so knowing that Alexis would reject him so that he could move on from her and just didn't think through the part about the keys being technically won in a duel as a result and causing problems but shhhhhhh
I don't know, it just made me really upset thinking about it šŸ„ŗ he's a good kid dammit šŸ„ŗ
he IS A GOOD KID!!! i always turn to the fact that he gives foster his 50th card. he has nothing to gain from giving the card away, it wouldnā€™t benefit him. the fact that he GETS the 50th is pure luck!! he did it because he wanted to!! he respected the way foster struggled for a deck like he did, it put him on equal terms with someone!!!!!
heā€™s so sweet under it all <:( the chazz at the start of s1 would never go up in those bleachers and chant ā€œL TO THE E TO THE X TO THE I, LEXI RULES AND THATS NO LIE!!ā€ but he DOES and you know why?!?!? because he FINALLY has a space to just be a TEENAGER and CRINGE and a BOY!!! heā€™s not supposed to be a paragon of a business corporation, heā€™s just a 15 y/o with a crush on a girl!!!!!!!!!
like. he still needs to learn to take no for an answer, but HE FINALLY GETS THAT CHANCE AND IT MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME. when i first moved in with my mom after spending so much time with my shitty dadā€™s side of the family, she had to constantly remind me i was a teenager and not some hardened adult ā€” that i could ask to hang out with my friends on the weekend or that i could mess up and not have a panic attack because nobody was going to scream at me. and it just gets me emotional every time to look at chazz and think that above all, in spite of everything, heā€™s just a teenagerā€¦

Lunchables and Familiarity
*Nathan the Nobody and Candy Pop are sitting on Candy Pop's bed, recovering from a little game they liked to play called: How long can we kiss without passing out?...with Candy Pop winning as usual*
*after a few more deep breaths, Nathan looks over at Candy Pop*
Nathan: you want to come with me to get a lunchable?
Candy Pop:....what in the 7 deadly sins is a lunchable?
Nathan:.......what did you just say?
Candy Pop: what's a lunchale-
Nathan: you poor, neglected, demon possesed-fairy-angel-blue jolly rancher....you have never tasted a Lunchable?
Candy Pop: no....I haven't....
Nathan: *picks candy up* come with me then, blue raspberry goblin, we shall find you the best Lunchables we can....and some babybel cheese on the side!
Candy Pop: *finding this wildly funny* alright then?
*Nathan carries Candy Pop on his back, taking him to the nearest exit of Jason's little pocket universe....he puts Candy Pop down about 3 minutes later cause he's having trouble keeping his balance with the unruly and excited genyr on his back*
*eventually Nathan finds the exit and Walks out with Candy Pop into an alley way, seeing a walmart sign about 5 minutes away from them*
Nathan: *putting away his mask and tying his hair up into a man bun* alright...if anyone asks, Candy Pop, you are a cosplayer and I am your roommate.
Candy Pop: but you're my boyfriend-
Nathan: *putting a finger to the small jester's lips* SHHHHHHH. we will devote ourselves to the role.
Nathan: NOW, we shall go...*he walks with Candy Pop to the walmart*
*Once they are inside, Candy Pop looks around excitedly...practically bouncing up and down, even though Candy Pop had gone to Walmart with Nathan a few times before, he always found it all quite invigorating considering where he was from, they had nothing like this*
*Nathan walked toward the cheese and lunch meat isle and pointed at the lunchables*
Nathan: the ambrosia and nectar of humans......āœØLunchablesāœØ
Candy Pop: you've been hanging out with Papa Grande...haven't you?
Nathan:...........hush you glitter force-glitter diamond lookalike.
*candy Pop laughs at this and just grabs a lunchable*
Candy Pop: alright we got the- *GASP*
Nathan: huh?
Candy Pop: *pointing at the refrigerators* red bull!
Nathan: Candy...if i buy that for you...Jason will KILL me....you understand that...right?
Candy Pop: small price to pay for your boyfriend's happiness~
Nathan:.....you're lucky i'm feeling extra good today.
*Nathan gets a red bull for candy pop and walks with him to the cashier*
Cashier: that'll be 14.59...
Nathan: *raises an eyebrow* hm...that's...more...than usual...
Cashier: *shrugs and takes the money from Nathan and gives them the stuff they bought*
Nathan: *mumbles* thanks...
*Candy Pop kept his eyes on the cashier...something felt....off*
Cashier: *looks at Candy with an odd grin....a grin Candy Pop had seen in the past but couldn't quite put his finger on* so...you're a cosplayer? what- or WHO are you cosplaying?
Candy Pop: *cautious* well....i'm cosplaying-
Cashier: wait....let me guess. a genyr?
Candy Pop: *eyes widening* how did you-
Nathan: *already at the exit* Candy! c'mon! Jason's gonna get worried if we're gone for too long!
Candy Pop: c-coming...*he heads towards Nathan...thinking about the odd interaction he just had...how on earth did that cashier know Candy Pop was a genyr...Genyrs were not something humans knew about...Genyrs were often mixed up with Angels...but that cashier had guessed perfectly...it wasn't normal*
*Nathan and Candy Pop head home and enjoy their red bull and lunchables*
*after they finish, they both get ready for bed, Candy Pop practically vibrating from the red bull...they walk to Jason's room and lay down all together, Candy Pop in the middle of the 6'0" goth and the 6'4" Toymaker*
Jason: *looking down at Candy Pop* why....why on Earth are you so shaky?
Nathan: *giving Candy a look that says: tell him and you wont be able to walk for a week.*
Candy Pop: *simply smiles at Nathan and turns to Jason* Nathan bought me a Red bull.
Nathan: YOU LITTLE SNITCH-
Jason: *sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose* i'm too tired to lecture you at this point...just don't do it again.
Nathan: *squints* hm...alright....fine...
Candy Pop: *simply chuckles and drifts to sleep*
*the throuple falls asleep peacefully*
................................................
Cashier: *walking into the back of Walmart snickering*
???: what's so funny?
Cashier: *slowly morphing* you wouldn't believe what I saw....
???: what?
*the cashier has now completely morphed*
Morivin: I got to see our dear older brother.
Drolsoir: he was here?
Morivin: yes...posing as a cosplayer with this...HIPPIE he was with
Drolsoir: ah...do you think we could use this?
Morivin: i believe we can younger brother....we will use our brother's relationship with that hipster people call a man to draw him in....and kill Night Terrors.
Drolsoir: lovely....
.....................................
*candy pop sits up, waking in a cold sweat*
Candy Pop: no....no no no....
Night Terrors: what is it?
Candy Pop: *grits his teeth* Morivin.....that cashier....it was Morivin....
Night Terrors: *Malice and cruelty in his voice* oh my~ quite the development we have.....
*Candy Pop closes his eyes in regret.....remembering the danger this could put him in....the danger this could put Jason and Nathan in*
Candy Pop: *breathes out* very well....I will simply have to be more careful...
*he lays down, pretending like everything is ok....just as he always does...*
........................
so, if you couldn't tell, this is going to be connected with the backstory i wanted to make for him.

finished the nevers 1-b!
aughhhhhhh, i wish they hadnā€™t so confidently ended as if a second season was going to happen! WHYYYYYYYY! WHY COULDNā€™T IT JUST END WITH AMALIA AND PENANCE BEING SCHMOOPY? frustrationnnnnnnn! (although i get that thereā€™s no way they couldā€™ve predicted the show would get THIS screwed back when they were still in production. you gotta try to swing for a renewal when youā€™re on hbo!)
i got SO attached to frank and hugo and i am pissed that hugo died. noooooooooooo! let them be happyyyyyy! i hate thissssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! hasnā€™t this show heard that we donā€™t bury our gays anymore??????? (I get that maybe james norton wanted out because he works so much, but shhhhhhh.)Ā maybe i just immediately need to start writing a fic about someone rolling up on the scene whose new turn is bringing your recently dead boyfriend back to life. or maybe the galanthi seeds ship frank and hugo too, and one somehow falls on hugo and magics him back to life. yep. thatā€™s where iā€™m at right now. MUNDI CANā€™T HAVE BOTH HIS LOVES DYING TO BOOKEND THE SERIES! I REFUSE! I REFUSE TO HAVE HIS LIFE BE THAT SAD. also, foppish aristocrat + grizzled copper wound up being a really excellent shippy dynamic that i donā€™t think would have occurred to me! update: itā€™s possible i wrote my fix-it fic already. I HAD TO! FOR MY OWN PEACE OF MIND, & PEACE OF FEELS!
i really, really liked the twist of auggie going bad. the stammering, hapless, charming englishman trope feels like such a staple of whedonā€™s work (and just such a staple in stories in general), and i loved seeing it turned on its head. i especially liked the way that the penance/auggie dynamic sort of felt like a fred/wesley remix but through a more critical lens, and i like how it was starting to feel like an amalia/penance/auggie love triangle was starting to happen. but ugh, i reallyyyyyyyy wish we hadnā€™t ended the series on that hug. D:
kinda relatedly: you KNOW i was like,Ā ā€œhoratio gravitating back toward his awesome wife and auggie being evil and amalia being bisexual means the narrative was totally setting up canon amalia/penance!ā€ and now nobody can tell me any different, damn it.
all of the maladie/sarah stuff was riveting and so magnificently acted! loved her journey.
olivia goddess williams remains my favorite, even when sheā€™s shooting an innocent space creature over and over.
amalia and her two past selves hanging out was excellently trippy!
i really liked the direction the show took in these episodes, i would have liked to see more of it. (but it would have required the magic resurrection of hugo swann, so maybe this is all for the best.) weary sigh! i really love all these characters and would have loved to watch them for much longer.
i still say reed diamond shouldā€™ve showed up as laviniaā€™s evil american boyfriend. sorry, denis oā€™hare!!!!!!

Already dating
Word count: 1618
Genre: Probably fluff, idk really
Pairing: Natasha x gn!reader
Warnings: None (let me know if I need to add any)
Request: could you maybe write something with Natasha x male reader (if your comfortable, otherwise you can write it with female or gender neutral) where Natasha blushes when the reader compliments her in front of the team and the team immediately goes crazy and does everything in their power to get them together, only to find out they've been dating all along?
Summary: Steve and Tony (mostly Tony) lock you in an elevator to admit your feelings, not knowing youā€™re already together.
A/n: Thanks @mochamoff for the request, sorry it took so long to do it! Iā€™m writing this authors note over a week before Iā€™m posting the fic which is unusual because usually I post within twenty four hours of finishing. Anyways it feels nice to be on a break and this fic being posted means Iā€™m officially back which Iā€™m excited for. To be honest this fic isnā€™t the whole team, just Tony and Steve, but Iā€™m pretty happy with the way it turned out so I hope you all enjoy reading!
Tumblr media
ā€œNext time you have to listen to me in the field Stark.ā€ Steve says as soon as everyone is settled into their place on the jet.
ā€œActually I donā€™t, you have absolutely no power over me and as much as you want to be the leader of this team you are not so stop acting like it.ā€ Tony snaps back.
ā€œSomeone has to step up and lead.ā€ Steve tells him. ā€œItā€™s not like you could do any better, you would probably mess things up.ā€
ā€œMaybe I would, but I would do a hell of a lot better than you are doing.ā€ Tony says. ā€œYou like to pretend youā€™re all high and good and above us but who made you leader? Nobody. You crave control so you took it.ā€
ā€œI did what needed to be done.ā€
You watch them snap back and forth at one another a few more times, rolling your eyes at Natasha. She gives you a small smile to show that sheā€™s amused and turns her attention back to your two teammates whose argument has only gotten more and more heated.
ā€œY/n what do you think?ā€ Tony asks, catching you off guard.
ā€œAbout what?ā€
ā€œAbout who would be a better leader for the team.ā€ he explains. You think for a moment and they both stand as tall as possible (in Tonyā€™s case it isnā€™t tall at all) and puff out their chests. You scoff, the male ego is so big, even in men who are good and try to do the right thing.
ā€œNeither.ā€ you decide.
ā€œNeither- but the team needs a leader, you have to pick someone.ā€ Tony splutters.
ā€œJust because I donā€™t think the best leader is either of you doesnā€™t mean I donā€™t think the team needs a leader.ā€ you tell him. How one of the smartest people in the world canā€™t figure that out for himself is beyond you.
ā€œSo who would you choose then?ā€ Steve asks, confused.
ā€œNatasha obviously.ā€ you say, smiling at her. The corners of her mouth tug up slightly and even that small movement makes you feel proud.
ā€œNo offense, but Natasha???ā€ Tony asks, seemingly outraged. ā€œWhy?ā€
ā€œWell first of all she doesnā€™t have a fragile male ego like you dumbasses.ā€ you tell them. ā€œBut itā€™s more than just that. Sheā€™s smart, both book smart and street smart. She can hack into computers and memorize information easily and knows how to blend in, or to get people to like her. She is more rational than the both of you combined but is also good at making decisions on the fly. She is an excellent fighter and can keep track of strategies and she has connections in and out of the government, with backup plans for almost every situation. Not to mention she has an amazing heart and donā€™t argue like some other people on our team tend to do. And of course sheā€™s absolutely gorgeous but that doesnā€™t have anything to do with it.ā€
You wink at her at the end of your mini speech and are surprised to find her cheeks noticeably pink. She canā€™t help the smile that creeps onto her face when she thinks over your words.
ā€œAbort mission, Romanoff is blushing and smiling, I think I might be about to die.ā€ Tony states obnoxiously.
ā€œShut up, youā€™re just annoyed that she likes me better than you.ā€ Natasha tells him, taking a breath to (mostly) collect herself.
ā€œYouā€™re scary when youā€™re happy. I havenā€™t seen you like that before.ā€ he says. ā€œAre you in love with Y/n or something?ā€
ā€œShut up.ā€
Tony smirks. ā€œMake me.ā€
Natasha takes one threatening step towards him and thatā€™s all it takes for him to back away, stuttering out apologies and mumbling under his breath about how Natasha is too scary to be a team leader. Natashaā€™s scare tactics do seem to work though because he doesnā€™t speak to anybody but himself for the rest of the ride home.
As soon as the jet touches down you and Natasha exit, heading straight to the room where you are supposed to be debriefed. Steve tries to follow but Tony grabs his arm to let him know to hold back a second.
ā€œI know I joke but I honestly think theyā€™re in love with each other.ā€ Tony tells him. ā€œI didnā€™t see it before today but thereā€™s no way Y/nā€™s speech was platonic, who memorizes lists of reasons why they like their friends, not to mention their flirty wink at the end. And then Natasha, sheā€™s scary but she was acting weird and happy around Y/n.ā€
ā€œI hate to say this but I agree with you and they would make a cute couple.ā€ Steve says. ā€œBut we should probably catch up now.ā€
Tony takes Steveā€™s words as an opportunity to stop being serious and become obnoxious again. ā€œOnward dear captain, lead the way fearsome leader, how ever could I-ā€
ā€œTony Iā€™m trying to be polite but you are making it very hard.ā€
---
ā€œTony no.ā€
ā€œTony yes.ā€
ā€œThat is a horrible idea.ā€
Tony opens his mouth in outrage. ā€œI think itā€™s a pretty good idea actually.ā€
ā€œI wonā€™t work.ā€ Steve counters.
ā€œWell I think it well and need Iā€™m the only genius here.ā€ he says smugly.
ā€œYou canā€™t force love!ā€ Steve tells Tony, running his hand through his hair in frustration.ā€
ā€œAh, ah, ah,ā€ Tony says, ā€œIā€™m not forcing love, they are already in love. All Iā€™m doing is giving them a little push.ā€
ā€œBy locking them in an elevator?ā€ Steve asks in a deadpan voice.
ā€œExactly.ā€
ā€œYou canā€™t just go around locking people-ā€ Steve starts to say but he gets cut off by Tony.
ā€œShhhhhhh, hi Y/n, hi Natasha.ā€
ā€œHi guys, what are you up to?ā€ you ask, obvious to what was going on seconds before you entered the room. Natasha eyes them suspiciously because they are acting weird, holding their bodies stiffly, which means they are hiding something.
ā€œWe were just about to head down to the training room, want to come?ā€ Tony lies smoothly while Steve shakes his head in the background.
ā€œThat sounds good,ā€ you reply, ā€œyou want Tasha?ā€
ā€œOkay.ā€ she agrees, still eyeing both of them, Tony in particular suspiciously.
ā€œGreat!ā€ Tony says and starts to walk towards the elevator and the rest of you follow him, Steve trying to convince himself that going along with Tonyā€™s plan is doing no harm.
ā€œLadies first.ā€ he says, stepping off to the side and giving a big flourish with his arm. Itā€™s weird but then again Tony is always weird so you donā€™t think too much of it, stepping into the elevator. As soon as Natasha follows you in he orders Jarvis to close and lock the doors and to prevent the elevator from moving and then pulling up a screen so he can watch you.
ā€œYou better run when I get out of here!ā€ Natasha yells. ā€œYou too Steve!ā€
ā€œYouā€™re going to thank me later.ā€ Tony says. ā€œSteve, why donā€™t you explain why we locked them in.ā€
ā€œUm,ā€ Steve hesitates, not knowing where to start, ā€œwell we think that you two need to talk about, um, feelings.ā€
ā€œFeelings?ā€ you ask, confused, while realization dawns over Natashaā€™s face.
ā€œUm, yeah feelings.ā€ Steve responds, feeling very awkward and hoping this works so he didnā€™t do all that for nothing.
ā€œThey donā€™t know weā€™re dating and theyā€™re trying to get us together.ā€ Natasha leans over and whispers in your ear before straightening back up and talking to Tony again. ā€œI didnā€™t take you for such a romantic Stark.ā€
ā€œWhat? Iā€™m not- romantic me? Pepper says Iā€™m the least romantic guy sheā€™s ever been with.ā€ he splutters, trying to regain his masculinity.
ā€œAnd that is not a compliment.ā€ you tell him. ā€œBut for some reason even though ā€˜you arenā€™t romanticā€™ you wanted to get us together.ā€
ā€œMaybe I did,ā€ he says. ā€œbut you have to admit that my plan is amazing and it's totally working.ā€
Natasha snorts ā€œWhat part of this conversation screams working to you?ā€
ā€œWell you havenā€™t killed Y/n yet and neither of you have denied your feelings so itā€™s obviously working. I expect a thank you speech dedicated to me at your wedding.ā€ He says arrogantly.
ā€œThere will be no speech.ā€ Natasha tells him.
ā€œBut there will be a wedding?ā€ He asks, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and Steve has to look away because it looks ridiculous.
ā€œHopefully.ā€ you say, teasing Tony with your vagueness but also making Natasha smile as she thinks about what that might be like.
ā€œTold you my plan would work.ā€ Tony brags to Steve before telling Jarvis to release you from the elevator.
ā€œYour plan sucked.ā€ Natasha tells him. ā€œWe were already dating dumbasses.ā€
She grabs your hand and pulls you out of the room as Steve and Tony stare after you, shocked.
ā€œDid you know about this?ā€ Tony asks, looking at Steve with suspicion.
ā€œNot at all.ā€ Steve answers, his mouth still half open. In hindsight it should have been obvious. Of course Natasha wouldnā€™t want to be open about her dating life right away, she likes her secrets way too much.
---
ā€œYou owe me fifty bucks Y/n.ā€ Natasha tells you once youā€™re out of earshot.
ā€œSeriously?ā€ you whine.
ā€œYou said they already knew but they didn't, so pay up.ā€ She holds her hand outwards expectantly and you both laugh.
ā€œLater.ā€ you tell her. ā€œThere are more important things to do now.ā€
ā€œHmm, like what?ā€ she teases gently, taking a step closer to you. Your breath catches because you still canā€™t believe you are dating someone this beautiful. You match her halfway and pull her into a deep kiss, only pulling back when you need to breath.
ā€œThis.ā€

Aces in Spaces Chapter 8
I know its not Monday, But, I literally have written so many cute things and itā€™ll take forever to get to them so Iā€™m moving to posting twice a week (please donā€™t feel like yā€™all have to keep up with that Iā€™m just an over-excited nerd :P
Slightly longer chapter! Erica is finally getting to meet the support group (and Hannah) for herself!Ā
Tags: @sunshinepascal @rentskenobi @maybege @princessxkenobi @obaby-wan @agent-450
Ā Masterlist
Erica going to the support group 4 months dating
ā€œYou agreed to meet him here. You agreed to meet him here and thereā€™s no reason why you canā€™t do this. He said there would be cake, I promise, everything will be ok. Itā€™s possible you might not even have to say anything other than your name.ā€
Erica takes a deep breath after her pep talk, leaning her head against the head rest and counting to even her breathing. Where was Roman?
Itā€™s still 20 minutes before the start she reasons, he probably isnā€™t as eager to be early as she is. She thought maybe if she showed up early enough sheā€™d have adequate time to prepare herself before going in (as if she hadnā€™t spent the whole morning and previous evening doing the same thing, her mind traitorously reminds her). She bites the bullet and reaches to call Roman.
ā€œHello darlingā€ She can tell heā€™s smiling and sheā€™s about to scold him ā€œButch is driving the monstrosity, you neednā€™t worry for my safety.ā€ He tacks on helpfully.
ā€œRoman I donā€™t know if I can do this.ā€ Maybe she hadnā€™t intended on being so honest but he already knows her most guarded secret, he probably understands.
ā€œHow can I help?ā€
She drops her head against the seat again, somehow he always knows what to ask and itā€™s making her feel like crying again at how caring he is. ā€œI, are you on your way?ā€
ā€œWeā€™ll be there inā€¦ three minutes tops dear one.ā€
She takes a deep breath. She can handle that. ā€œIā€™m not going in without you.ā€
ā€œOf course not ace, I canā€™t have someone steal you awayā€
The thought makes her heart leap to her throat anew. She hadnā€™t even considered the prospect of having to deal with that while she was here, wasnā€™t this supposed to be a support group? Isnā€™t that like a safe space? Good God is nothing sacred anymore?
A car pulling in next to her breaks her free from her thoughts and she sighs in relief at realizing it is what they have dubbed ā€˜the monstrosityā€™ (much to Butcherā€™s dismay). Roman is out of his door and over to open hers in a flash, holding his arms out in question and she dives in without a second thought.
ā€œWe donā€™t have to if you arenā€™t ready today.ā€
She shakes her head against his shoulder, picking her head up slightly to say against his ear. ā€œThese are your friends now, theyā€™d miss you.ā€
ā€œI can send Butch to tell them Iā€™ll be back next week.ā€
Erica pulls away slightly to look at Butch and Roman turns with her.
ā€œBoss, I wouldnā€™t want toā€”ā€
ā€œThen againā€ he turns to look at the sky absent mindedly, ā€œif he simply pops in and says weā€™ve both been called away to the advantage of a certain librarian who needs assistance shelving books, I suppose that canā€™t be helped now can it?ā€ He finishes looking at Erica again, definitely teasing, and she swallows slightly before nodding.
ā€œIā€™ll go in then, I want to meet her.ā€ Her eyes go to Butch, ā€œUnless you really would want the afternoon off? I donā€™t mind doing a movie, orā€”ā€
She trails off, eyes searching the ground and Roman tightens his arms around her reassuringly.
ā€œI donā€™t mind either way Ms. Erica, if you feel up to it today, weā€™ll give it a go together. My Hannah would understand either way.ā€
She looks to Butch again. ā€œDo you promise she wonā€™t be mean to me?ā€
Roman tilts his head, where had that come from? Erica sounds like a young girl going to school for the first time, not anything like the strong and fearless woman he knows her to be.
Butcher on the other hand looks horrified. ā€œNo, no, noā€ He reaches out to her shoulders and she meets his hand half-way with her own, pulling him to embrace both her and Roman. ā€œHannah would never, yā€™all two would get along like a house on fireā€ Heā€™s lowered his voice now, speaking softly and his tone bleeds comfort around their huddled trio, even Romanā€™s starting to feel safe. ā€œIf she was thatā€™d be it Ms. Erica, I canā€™t let anything happen to you two.ā€ Heā€™s rubbing her back slowly now, ā€œAnd you know how the boss gets if youā€™re sad Ms. Erica, gets all weepyā€ Roman starts to struggle from his side of the huddle, ā€œcanā€™t get anything doneā€ Roman is now avidly struggling, ā€œcanā€™t even get out of bed in the morningā€”ā€
ā€œReally? Must you?ā€
Ericaā€™s laughing, ā€œAlright girls youā€™re both pretty, now if I can be a member of a crime syndicate, I can handle a support group, I need to meet this lovely woman of yours.ā€ She finishes with a smile and Roman beams, She wasnā€™t wrong about him viewing the others in the group as his friends and since he made them in the process of helping her, itā€™s something he feels the need to share.
They head in together, the door doesnā€™t leave enough room for them to walk arm in arm but Erica walks between them when possible and soon they find themselves coming up to the desk. Where Hannah is currently absent. Erica tilts her head but Butch speaks before she can, whisper shouting in (fond) annoyance.
ā€œLove I told you not to climb that ladder when thereā€™s nobody there to catch ya!!!ā€
Erica looks to her right at Butchers exclamation and finds that ā€˜loveā€™ is a small slight woman with darker skin, who is balanced (rather precariously she will admit), at the top step of a ladder. She also turns to look at Butch, smiling affectionately before raising her eyes and making eye contact with Erica. Erica smiles back in an effort to make herself seem less intimidating (being 6 feet tall doesn't always help). Hannah, however, enthusiastically extends her arm above her head to wave, much to butcherā€™s chagrin, (who is attempting to coax her down from the ladder) and Erica waves back shyly. She certainly seemed nice enough.
Hannah begins to descend the ladder, Butchā€™s hands finding her waist to guide her as soon as sheā€™s within reach (which only takes about a step on her part) and three steps from the bottom he scoops her up to twirl her around before setting her down again, face nuzzling into her neck from his place behind her.
Erica turns toward Roman to give them privacy and he brushes his fingers against her in question. She takes them, nodding, gazing into his eyes for a last assurance before hearing Butchā€™s quiet ā€˜love I want you to meet someoneā€™ and turning to face them both.
Hannah seems to bounce almost, still whispering but exuding joy all the same, ā€œHello!ā€ She extends her hand gently, ā€œIā€™m Hannah, I work here and help the group when they need itā€ she elbows Butch softly with her other arm, ā€œIā€™m also dating this hunk so thereā€™s that too.ā€ She breaks eye contact to wink at him before turning to Erica again and smiling kindly. ā€œI think itā€™s brave what youā€™re doing, I know it isnā€™t easy to talk about things that are so personal.ā€
Erica breaths a sigh of relief, taking Hannahā€™s hand in both of her own. ā€œThank you.ā€ She blinks before releasing the other woman and looks down at her feet to gather herself before she speaks again. ā€œIā€™m Ericaā€ She elbows Roman in much the same fashion ā€œIā€™m dating the other hunk.ā€ She gives Hannah a lopsided smile (the one she makes when emulating something she isnā€™t quite sure about but hopes sheā€™s doing right, Romanā€™s seen it before and if he were braver in the library heā€™d pick her up and spin her like Butch did Hannah because sheā€™s doing so well). Theyā€™d had late conversations about how today would go, Erica desperate for every detail he could give, wanting to plan her every move, and even then sheā€™d finally confessed to feeling unsure she would be able to go through with it. To discuss struggles that sheā€™d worked so hard for years to hide would be digging up a lot of old memories and she wasnā€™t sure she could. Not alone, and certainly not with others around. Heā€™d settled on just telling her that she could tap him twice on the thigh at any point and heā€™d give Butch ā€˜the lookā€™ and theyā€™d leave, she didnā€™t have to do it all in one day. So far, sheā€™s swallowed all her fears and been amazing, part of him wants to tap her thigh now so he can bring her to that ice cream place and shower her with affection for being so strong.
But alas, Hannah is chatting up a storm with her about all sorts of things now, makeup, clothes, where she got the adorable sweater sheā€™s wearing and wondering if Erica ever has trouble with her sleeves being too short. And Erica is smiling fully (her real one, not the lopsided one, and that alone is a huge step) so he doesnā€™t think sheā€™ll let him pull her away. It might be an even better prospect honestly.
He makes eye contact with Butch and raises his eyebrows, ā€œIt seems weā€™re both in want of a partner, do you suppose things will ever be the same?ā€ He puts on a mournful face as if a breakup had actually occurred. Butch plays along, though heā€™s fighting a smile.
ā€œNo boss, think we ought to just stick with ourselves, it seems weā€™ve been abandoned.ā€
A ā€˜SHHHHHHHā€™ is whisper shouted from somewhere and both the girls seem to jolt back to their surroundings. ā€œOh goodnessā€ comes Hannahā€™s quick whisper, ā€œI donā€™t mean to keep you! You all run along nowā€ She answers Butchā€™s protest before itā€™s even out, ā€œyes I promise to stay off the ladderā€ She tugs him down by the collar to plant a quick pec on his lips (him bending at the waist and her on the tips of her toes and straining up) before turning back to Roman and Erica.
ā€œRoman, that is a wonderful woman you have found, and I swear if you hurt her Iā€™ll fight you.ā€
Erica pauses before leaning forward, putting her arms out to offer Hannah a hug. She gets one. ā€œYouā€™re the best.ā€
Hannah smiles when they pull away, ā€œGirls have to stick together, I got you.ā€ She pats Ericaā€™s elbow and winks at her before shooing them again, walking with them a few steps before moving behind her desk. The slap to Butcherā€™s butt seems to echo through the library and Erica nearly snorts, turning around to give Hannah a thumbs up around Butcher before walking again (she misses the way the man is completely unphased by it but Roman doesnā€™t and oh boy is that going to get him teased in the near future).
They walk down the hall together like Butch and Roman have done so many times before, Erica taking Romanā€™s hand at the last second, whether to comfort herself or to subtly show heā€™s hers she isnā€™t sure but it helps both things. She glances through the room as they enter, sticking close to Roman, and smiles when she hears an excited ā€œButch!!ā€ from the far side.
The blond boy Roman mentioned, Tom, comes bounding over, nearly throwing himself into Butchā€™s waiting arms and Butch turns into the momentum, swinging the boyā€™s legs a little. ā€œHey squirt? How ya doin?ā€
ā€œOh Iā€™m swell! I learned that word this week, swell, it means, um, nice. Do you like it?ā€
Butch smiles, ā€œItā€™s great. Can I introduce you to somebody I think is swell?ā€
ā€œButcherā€ Tom says confidently, ā€œI already know Roman. And Hannah.ā€
Butch laughs, ā€œWell you can find more than two people swell!ā€ He turns to gesture at Erica with a sweep of his arm and Tomā€™s eyes widen. Jenny appears behind him and Roman shares a smile with her, he knows Erica wonā€™t mind the young boy at all, heā€™d told her how sweet he was and if anyone would understand it was Erica.
ā€œYouā€™re the pretty lady. The ace Roman always talks about!ā€ Ok so maybe he hadnā€™t expected that exactly. Tom walks forward and presents his hand to shake (much the same way he did to Roman that first day). ā€œIā€™m Tom, and Jenny is my sister, sheā€™s around here somewhereā€ This time the boyā€™s eyes donā€™t leave Erica as he mentions the other name, staying steadfast on her face. ā€œYou have pretty eyes.ā€
Erica is smiling (and blushing a little Roman notes), looking down at the boy with fondness before glancing up to (who she assumes is) Jenny. She gives her a smile as well before reaching out to shake Tomā€™s hand. ā€œIā€™m Erica, andā€ She looks to Roman, ā€œI am the ace Roman talks about.ā€
ā€œCan I keep calling you the pretty lady though?ā€
Jenny chooses this moment to step in, ā€œIā€™m Jenny, Tom sometimes says whatā€™s on his mind withoutā€”ā€
ā€œNo I meant to say that, look at her Jenny sheā€™s beautiful!ā€
Erica laughs a little awkwardly now and Roman decides to help, ā€œDid Marie bring the cake this time T? Iā€™ve been waiting to have some of hers but I keep forgetting!ā€
The boyā€™s eyes widen in wonder again, hurriedly grabbing Romanā€™s hand and dragging him towards the other end of the room. Jenny takes a step closer to Erica as they both watch the boys walk away fondly.
ā€œHe really does talk about you here, and heā€™s been so eager to learn, he listens like itā€™s going out of style.ā€
ā€œThatā€™s my Roman.ā€ Itā€™s quiet but Erica realizes belatedly she did say it out loud, and she blinks quickly to reorganize herself and turns to Jenny, ā€œHe just, likes to educate himself, loves to learn.ā€ She looks back to the table, hoping she hasnā€™t already made a fool of herself in the first five minutes.
ā€œWell, that isnā€™t the only thing he loves.ā€
She looks back to Jenny in surprise, mouth going dry before she can say anything. ā€œWe havenā€™tā€”ā€
ā€œI didnā€™t mean to pry its justā€ Jenny, bites her lips in thought, ā€œhe talks about you so fondly, and, itā€™s a big step to come to a group for something he doesnā€™t experience, not a lot of people are willing to do that for someone else. I donā€™t have a lot of men around Tom but, he takes cues from both of them and heā€™s grown up so much since they started coming, I wanted to thank you.ā€
Erica looks to Jenny slightly shocked, she hadnā€™t even thought of that butterfly affect. She reaches to rest a hand on Jennyā€™s forearm before answering seriously. ā€œRoman is a wonderful person and an even better man, if Tom wants to grow up to be like him, Iā€™m glad to share him anytime.ā€
Jenny meets her eyes with the understanding of everything thatā€™s going unsaid and covers Ericaā€™s hand with her own. ā€œDo you do hugs?ā€
Erica smiles, ā€œI donā€™t mind at all.ā€
The support group meeting goes much the same way, (a thousand times better than Erica hoped) and Roman drives her back to the penthouse for their dinner date (Butch stuck around the library for ā€œreasonsā€ and Roman is all too thrilled at the prospect of giving Erica all the details.
ā€œThank you.ā€
Erica thinks itā€™s as good a place to start as any, today felt, cathartic almost. To be around people who felt the same way she did, who saw things the same way and were just as uncomfortable in some situations as she was. Roman doesnā€™t say anything so she continues.
ā€œI, I wasnā€™t sure how Iā€™d feel about it but, I liked it. They were all nice and Tom really was a sweetheart like you said and Jenny is a wonderful woman. Hearing them talk about, feeling awkward in ā€˜meet cuteā€™ scenarios and in the beginning of relationships, or even friendships? That was..ā€ She trails off, shaking her head in amazement, ā€œhealing. Like I knew I wasnā€™t alone, but itā€™s so much more meaningful hearing someone else describe the exact same feelings, knowing they are actually understanding you because theyā€™re right there saying it. Itā€™s, itā€™s wonderful Roman. I canā€™t thank you enough.ā€
He nods, smiling at the road and reaches a hand across the console to offer it to her, she brings his open palm to her lips to place a kiss on it before wrapping it in both her hands.
ā€œRemember dinner is on meā€
ā€œNot a chance Ace.ā€
ā€œOk well, tacos? Please?ā€
Roman laughs before Erica speaks again, ā€œThereā€™s two on the way to your house, one on main and one on 3rd street.ā€
ā€œDo you have a preference?ā€
ā€œI was just saying its not out of our way!ā€
Roman keeps chuckling, ā€œI never said I mindedā€
They pick the closer one to the house in the hopes the food wonā€™t be cold when they get home, Roman pulls into the drive through (something heā€™s been using a lot more since they started dating) before turning to ask what she wants.
ā€œTo be allowed to pay, thatā€™s what I want.ā€
He sighs, ā€œFiiiiinnnneeeeā€
ā€œAnd two burritos.ā€ She says finally. ā€œPlease.ā€ Comes the afterthought.

'Nother random Taako headcanon because why not; I like to think he actually does have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and, since Taako is a terrible liar, opted for a half-truth instead so even though he dodged the question about the stuff he stole nobody can tell him he wasn't being honest about having a (fantasy) CPAP machine. Plus I don't know of many if any characters that use one so it'd be really neat if he did!! But maybe that's just me that thinks that lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shhhhhhh I know Taako sleeps on the top bunk I just sketched it like this for now cuz it was easier, I'll pay better attention to his sleeping arrangements next time

ā€ƒPeter couldnā€™t focus on the delicious food that was sitting on the plate in front of him. His mind was focused on the fact that you werenā€™t present at the dinner that was mandatory for all students on the trip. Peter knew that he wasnā€™t the only one wondering where you were, the supervisors were curious to where you were at as well.
ā€œWhere was she last seen?ā€ā€Œ peter overheard Mr. Harrington ask his partner. ā€œI mean, she was with us on the tour, wasnā€™t she?ā€
ā€ƒPeter nodded as if he was part of the conversation. He only knew you were on the tour because that was when you started acting differently. Normally, you would have been hanging around Peter, pointing out things and making random jokes, but instead, Peter found himself getting avoided by you. At first, Peter thought you were just needed somewhere else, but he soon came to realize that you were purposely keeping away from him.
ā€ƒMr. Harrington nervously tapped his foot on the ground and checked his watch. He bit his lip.
ā€œThe thing is, once everyone is done eating, weā€™re going to be heading to the opera,ā€ he said, looking around at his students. ā€œwe really need to find (Y/N) before everyone finishes eating.ā€
ā€ƒMr. Harrington and Mr. Dell split up and went their separate ways to look for you. In reality, you were just in your hotel room, and Peter knew exactly that.
ā€”
ā€ƒYou paced around your hotel bedroom, your mind jumbled up with thoughts and worries. Youā€™ve been denying the fact that you were falling for your good friend Peter Parker. Your feelings for him went from neutral to having butterflies around him as well as becoming a stuttering mess around him. You knew that there was a dinner going on downstairs, but you couldnā€™t go on with seeing Peterā€™s face again.
ā€ƒYou had already been trying to avoid him during the tour. To you, you thought that if you avoided him, you wouldnā€™t feel the way you felt. It was no use anyways. The thought of Peter got your riled up. You recognized the feelings you had, and you knew it was a crush. Why Peter though? Why him out of everybody? He was going to break your heart, just like your every other guy in your past relationships.
ā€ƒYou never had faith in relationships ever since your last boyfriend who cheated on you. It was difficult to accept the fact that you had fallen for Peter, and you had fallen hard. A lard knock came from your door, startling you.
ā€œ(Y/N)?ā€Œ Are you in there?ā€ā€Œ it was Ned. ā€œUm, yeah. If youā€™re in there, Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell want to talk to you.ā€
ā€ƒShoot. You had totally forgotten to tell the two teachers that you werenā€™t going to be attending the dinner. You take a deep breath and walk up to the door. There was a surprise on the other side of the door as you opened it, and it wasnā€™t the teachers. Ned smiled awkwardly and took a step back, revealing Peter standing behind him with a backpack strap drooped over his left shoulder. You realized that Peter used Ned as bait to get you to leave your room, because he knew that you wouldnā€™t respond to him.
ā€ƒThe exact moment you made eye contact with those gorgeous brown eyes, the butterflies had returned. Immediately, you broke your gaze from his and scurried off.
ā€œOh, come on (Y/N)!ā€ peter exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air. ā€œWhat did I even do? Whatever I did, Iā€™m sorry! Please, just stop avoiding me!ā€
ā€ƒSilent was what you stayed.ā€Œ You couldnā€™t even listen to his voice without your heart racing. Your eyes were glued on the ground, you didnā€™t even realize the figure in front of you. You ran into someone and fell but got caught. It was Mr. Harrington.
ā€œ(Y/N)!ā€ he shrieked in surprise. ā€œThere you are!ā€Œ Oh goodness, am I happy to have found you!ā€
ā€œI-I, yeah, hi.ā€ you replied, brushing yourself off. ā€œUm, Ned, said you needed to talk to me?ā€
ā€œI was just wondering where you were, but mystery solved!ā€ he said with a smile. ā€œAnyways, weā€™re all heading down to the opera right now, so letā€™s get going.ā€
ā€ƒYou knew Peter was only a few steps away so you sped your way ahead of Mr. Harrington. You needed to catch up to the group of students so you could hide from Peter. Mr. Harrington chuckled.
ā€œIt seems that (Y/N)ā€™s excited for the opera.ā€
ā€œNo she isnā€™t,ā€ peter said, passing Mr. Harrington. ā€œsheā€™s just in a hurry to get away from me.ā€
ā€œNobody is excited for the opera Mr. Harrington,ā€ ned added, while also passing him. ā€œI donā€™t even think youā€™re excited for the opera.ā€
Mr. Harrington blinked. ā€œHm, now that I think about it, I guess Iā€™m really not.ā€
ā€”
ā€ƒThere were probably five people sat in the theater, and four out of the five were asleep. You already knew this opera was going to be a waste of your time. The only thing you were glad about was that you were part of the group that didnā€™t have Peter. Brad on the other hand was in it, and you didnā€™t particularly like Brad, but he thought you did. Brad thought everyone liked him, but in reality, everyone meant no one.
ā€ƒBrad walked into the middle of the aisle and sat down. You sat down beside him. Everyone started filling in the seats on Bradā€™s side, and people started entering on your side. Peter had barely entered and instantly saw the empty seat beside you. Peter didnā€™t even hesitate and raced after the seats, shoving through people. It wasnā€™t long until you heard Peter yelling at everyone to move out of his way. You soon realized that he was going after the seat that was empty.
ā€œOh crap.ā€
ā€ƒPeter annoyed a ton of people, but in the end, he was able to get the seat. You turn away from Peter and start a random conversation with Brad. All Brad did was play on his phone though, he couldnā€™t care less about the conversation at the moment.
ā€œ(Y/N), are you ever going to speak to me?ā€
ā€ƒYou ignored him and tried to seem interested in what Brad was doing, but Brad pulled away. The lights lowered and the teachers started shushing everybody. You turn forward and watch the curtains come apart. You could easily see Peter staring at you from the side.
ā€œ(Y/N), talk to me.ā€ he said quietly. ā€œI want to why youā€™ve been avoiding me. Is it somethā€”ā€
ā€œSHHHHHHH!ā€ Mr. Harrington shushed Peter from behind. ā€œSome people actually want to watch this opera.ā€
ā€œI donā€™t.ā€ you said, standing up from your seat. Peter raised his eyebrows. ā€œI have to go.ā€
ā€ƒPeter tried to reach for your hand, but you were quick to climb your way out of the aisle. Peter watched as his crush slid her way out away from him. That was it. Peter was done. He was going to find out the reason no matter what. Peter wasnā€™t slow and climbed out the other way, only to chase you down to the hallway.
ā€œ(Y/N)!ā€ you hear Peter call your name in the hallway.ā€Œ You pause in your footsteps. ā€œTell me why youā€™ve been avoiding me. Youā€™re acting weird and itā€™s worrying me. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll understand.ā€
ā€œNo, you wonā€™t understand Peter.ā€
Peter furrowed his eyebrows. ā€œAnd why wouldnā€™t I?ā€
ā€œBecauseā€Œ Iā€™ve fallen for you Peter!ā€ā€Œ you shouted, turning around toward him. ā€œIā€™ve fallen in love with you and I donā€™t know what the hell to do about it!ā€
ā€ƒPeter stood motionless. Speechless. He had no idea what to respond. The silence was killing you. It finally came to the fact that you had expressed your feelings and was going to get nothing in return.
ā€œI canā€™t believeā€Œ I just said that,ā€ā€Œ you sighed, covering your face in embarrassment. ā€œI canā€™t beā€”ā€
ā€ƒYou suddenly felt a pair of hands grab yours. Peter pulled your hands off your face and stared deeply in your eyes. He smiled.
ā€œI know what you can do,ā€ he whispered softly. ā€œkiss me.ā€
ā€ƒYou didnā€™t even have time to respond until Peter pulled you in by yours hands and smashed his soft lips upon yours. It was magical. Sparks flew everywhere. You couldnā€™t believe this was happening. The kiss was short and sweet.
ā€œP-Peter,ā€ you licked your lips. ā€œIā€¦ā€
ā€œI love you too (Y/N),ā€ peter said, laying his forehead against yours. ā€œit seems that you just had the guts to say it first.ā€

Cradlesona
I have worked on this for two days but I am finally done with my Cradlesona!!
@lovingsiriusoswald Thank you for starting this trend!
Now, introducing my Cradlesona: Angel Burnham! (or is it really her name...)
Tumblr media
This is my first digital drawing so it looks wack shhhhhhh
A brief warning, though: Personality might confuse you because of the way I wrote it. Iā€™ll make a much better version of this, however.
Basic Info:
Name: Angel Burnham (It is not her real name, however.)
Nickname: Angel
Birthday: December 12
Age: 22
Height: 150cm
Blood Type: O+
Physical:
Eyes: Her right eye is a natural brown color. Her left eye, however, is akin to a galaxy. It became like so when her magical abilities decided to show themselves while playing the piano one day. Nobody knows how the galaxy pattern was made permanent on her eye (nor do they know why her eyes become the colors of space when she uses magic instead of the typical red).
Hair: Dark brown hair, which can look black in some angles, while in other angles, it looks more brown (the image shows it brown however).
Accessories: She has two rosary bracelets on her left wrist and a St. Benedict ring on her left middle finger.
Features: Other than her left eye, there isnā€™t anything about her that stands out.
Illnesses: Aside from allergies to most seafood except fish, none
Social:
Affiliation: Neutral at first, Red Army later on
Occupations: Originally worked as a waitress in a cafe, but sometime after the day she found out about her magic, she was recruited by the Red Army to help them in the war.
Relationships:
Blanc: He and Angel are friends. Blanc let her stay in his house, gave her a place to stay when she wanted to move out, and was the one who helped her find a job in Cradle. He does this as an apology for accidentally bringing her to Cradle. Blanc, alongside Oliver, are the only ones who really know where Angel is from.
Oliver: At first, Angel was intimidated by him due to his less than friendly first impression. But within the time she spent living with him and Blanc, they were able to get to know each other and become friends through ranting.
Fenrir: When he stops by to pick up something from Oliver, he would occasionally chat with Angel. He gave her a tour around Cradle as well.
Edgar: Edgar may be kind to her, but something about his smile was sketchy to her. She doesnā€™t pry, however, mostly because she doesnā€™t have much concrete reason as to why he felt sketchy to her. Edgar would occasionally tease Angel about her crush, however, much to her annoyance.
Kyle: Angel loves his chill self and admires his dedication as a doctor. Theyā€™re friends and sometimes, if she feels like going out, Angel would accompany Kyle to the bar. She never drinks, however, so sheā€™s stuck with bringing Kyle home.
Lancelot: She was intimidated by him, but after learning what Lancelot means to the army through Kyle and Jonah, she realized that the King of Hearts is actually nicer than he lets on.Ā
Zero: They donā€™t talk much but Angel thinks heā€™s great company.
Jonah: Angel has a crush on him. She found him attractive when she first saw him, but after Blancā€™s brief descriptions of the Queen of Hearts and seeing him looking happy while eating a strawberry mille-feuille one day, she found herself crushing on him.Ā Ā
Personality:
Race/Ethnicity: Half Filipino-Cradle blood
Type of clothes/How they wear it: When she first fell into Cradle, Angel wore a long-sleeved dark blue-and-white striped shirt, with dark blue jeans and black sandals. Due to 19th century customs for women, she had to wear a couple of dresses. She has three favorite dresses that she wears nearly every day: the premium dresses from Jonah, Sirius, and Lancelot.Ā
Mannerisms: She mostly doesnā€™t care and likes to act as how she wants to act. She can behave and be formal if necessary, but otherwise, she definitely does not have the manners of Lancelot, Jonah, and Edgar. When it comes to taking care of herself, she tries but itā€™s not enough. She brushes her hair and takes a bath every day, but her hair can still look like it hasnā€™t been brushed.Ā
Favorite subject: Math because there is something about the numbers that captivates her and she feels pride over the fact that she can do math while her other classmates struggle.
How do they want to be seen by others: Angel hopes that people see her as a decent human being and not someone who seems to be bad-mannered or mean to others.
How people see them: Angel isnā€™t really sure on that aspect, but she did get a few comments from people who say that they were initially intimidated by her due to her serious expression. Itā€™s most likely that sheā€™s too serious for people to feel like they can easily approach her.
Introverted or extroverted: Angel is an introvert. She likes to hang around with friends, but that would mean staying in her place or being alone the next day to recharge. She isnā€™t the type to initiate conversation, but she would gladly engage in one if she feels like it.
What makes them laugh out loud: A lot of things actually. Snarky comments, roast comments, someoneā€™s rather enthusiastic way of telling a story, dissing other friends, and the list goes on.
Do they make snap judgements or take time to consider: Angel doesnā€™t judge people, especially if theyā€™re strangers because she is aware that they both come from different places. However, she will judge if someone makes a stupid move, including herself.
How do they react to praise: Angelā€™s reactions can vary. If she is proud of what she did, sheā€™ll say thank you, but if she does not find a reason to deserve the compliment, she gets bashful. Either way, her day will feel better, knowing she did something right.
ā€œā€ criticism: Angel accepts it with grace. She does not want to make a fuss, nor does she want to reveal any negative feelings towards said criticism.Ā
How do they treat anyone: If Angel is with a close person, sheā€™s much louder and more carefree. She looks more cheerful. If Angel is with a person who dislikes her or she dislikes, she still acts polite, even if she is tempted to show her irritation.
What is their view on lying: Angel absolutely hates lying. Itā€™s not to say sheā€™s above it, but in the moments she doesnā€™t say the exact truth, she feels guilty. This extends to her friendships; she strives to not lie to her friends about anything and will always try to keep her word. This honesty, however, can sometimes cause her to say an off-handed comment, which sheā€™ll regret saying later on.
Favorite animal: Her dog from the Land of Reason. When he pops into her head, she hopes that he is still alive.
Music, art, or reading: This is a hard choice for Angel, since she likes all three, but sheā€™ll choose music. All three keep her entertained, especially when she can barely do anything without WiFi for her phone.
Favorite color: Darker hues of blue and gold
Favorite day of the week: Wednesday, because that day tends to be her most relaxing day
Most beautiful thing theyā€™ve ever seen: Angel tends to find so many things beautiful. She can find beauty in even the way the stones on a cobblestone pathway are arranged. Deep down, however, she will say Jonah Clemence (lmao).
Political views: In the context of the conflict within Cradle, Angel is neutral. As someone who lives in the Philippines, she canā€™t help but note the disadvantages of the dictatorship that the Red Army advocates for. On the other hand, democracy can be somehow difficult to manage. Therefore, she prefers to not think about it.
How do they deal with conflict: She doesnā€™t. Angel tries to avoid arguments most of the time. However, she will speak up if she feels there is something wrong. When she does argue with someone, she tries to keep her inner peace without blowing up. However, when faced with conflicts regarding personal problems, she can get stressed easily and lose it.
Are they more likely to fight with their fists or their tongue: Angel prefers to speak. She is doubtful that she can fight, even with magic and the resistance to it in her arsenal.
How do they deal with stress: Angel will rant to herself when sheā€™s completely alone. Sometimes, sheā€™ll also rant to Oliver. If what is stressing her is sadness, however, she will keep it in and not tell anyone.Ā
What is their biggest regret: Angel is the type to regret a lot of things and when she least expects it, the things she regrets will enter her head and she will clench her fist and shut her eyes tight to make it go away. Her biggest regret, however, is when she played Sonata Pathetique mvm. 3 in a restaurant, the day she found out her magical abilities.
What is their greatest fear: Angel is secretly scared of one thing: being unwanted and consequently alone. Sheā€™s scared that she wonā€™t get a man who would love her unconditionally because sheā€™s not good enough or sheā€™s scared that her friends gossip behind her back or love each other more than her because sheā€™s not good enough. This fear worsens after she found out about her magic.
When was the last time they cried: Angel hates crying, more so in front of others. She doesnā€™t know why she even does; it was a thing she knew ever since she was a child. Because of this, she doesnā€™t normally cry, even if she bottles up depressing thoughts. She does cry, however, when the guilt from the day she found out her magic and the fear of not being loved by anyone ate her up.
What is their philosophy of life: Angel likes to go with the flow but she has to establish a few things she wants in life to make it easier.
What will they stand up for: Angel doesnā€™t have much she particularly feels passionate about, as sheā€™s the type who would rather chill and not be caught in conflict. But if thereā€™s one thing that would irk her, itā€™s people being mean. She doesnā€™t get why people would betray their friends nor would she understand why people are jerks. Therefore, she tries to be nice to everyone she meets.
Is it easy to admit their mistake: Yes. Angel will know if it was her mistake or not.Ā
Is it easy to forgive others: Definitely. Angel canā€™t hold a grudge.
Weak traits: Angel can be lazy and wonā€™t complete a project she started on. Angel also has some level of arrogance, born out of the fear that she isnā€™t good enough and that no one would want her.
Strong traits: Angel will always try to be a trustworthy person and someone who tries her best.Ā
Family and History:
Angel is actually from the 21st century who recently graduated from college with a degree in music. While walking back to a condo her family owns, Blanc bumps into her and drops his pocket watch, which she picked up. She chased him and called him but he was too fast. Eventually, he disappears, confusing Angel, and standing on the spot where he was, she ended up falling to 19th century Cradle.
Angelā€™s family is actually a mix of two worlds. Her mother was a Cradle citizen, born into a family of magic users, while her father was from the Land of Reason. Her mother, for some reason, entered the Garden on the full moon and accidentally ended up being transported to 21st century Earth, where she met Angelā€™s father and fell in love. They hid this from Angel and her other siblings and she only found out during a chance encounter with her motherā€™s parents. Because of the magic and resistance to it being passed down, she inherited both abilities, which are most powerful in music.
Skills and Special Abilities:
Magic: Angel can cast magic like typical magic users. When she uses magic normally, itā€™s far from the power of magic users such as Lancelot and Harr. However, when she plays piano or flute, her magic becomes much stronger, possibly stronger than the aforementioned two. Using it, however, can cause fatigue, fever, and even fainting.
Magic Resistance: Due to her roots in the Land of Reason, she also has the ability to nullify magic, making her one of the most powerful people in Cradleā€“ and a target. Strangely, when she makes TwoSetViolin references, her magic nullification ability is more powerful. (It was how she even found out about her magic resistance. She remarked ā€œiNtErEsTiNgā€ once and the nearby lights went off. The crystals in the light bulbs were newly installed.)
Pianist: She has a decade and a half worth of experience.
Flutist: While not as experienced with the flute (only having played it for around 5 years), she can still play it.
Paired with: Currently no one, but she has a crush on Jonah
Life in Cradle:
Angel just recently graduated from college when she first encountered Blanc, who bumped into her. Blanc seemed very antsy and, after apologizing to her, ran off. He dropped his pocket watch, however. The same thing that happened to Alice the Second occurred, except Blanc actually was nearby when Angel was falling to 19th century Cradle.
The portal closed immediately after Blanc caught Angel, so she was trapped in the unknown world.
On the first days staying in Cradle, Angel was nervous, even with Blanc and Oliver helping her. Often, she was reminded of how tense she was.
During one of the days Blanc showed her around, Angel saw a troop of Red Army soldiers, being led by Jonah. Angel found him attractive and kept glancing at him.Ā
Eventually, Angel asked Blanc if she can get a job and her own living space, since she didnā€™t want to burden him. Blanc helped her find a job as a waitress in a cafe and got her an apartment to stay in.
She found out about her magic nullification abilities when she moved in to her apartment.
For two months, she carried a rather mundane life as a worker in a cafe. There was a day when, during break, she ate in another cafe at the same time as Jonah (and found him cute as he ate his mille-fueille).
A few days after the news of the former King of Hearts being assassinated was announced, Angel was eating out with some friends from work. The restaurant had a piano, so she decided to play Sonata Pathetique mvm. 3. Midway through the piece, she heard screams and shouts of pain. That was when she found out that she was unleashing magical attacks through her playing and started to panic when she realized her hands were moving on their own. That was when an explosion occurred.
She was brought to Kyle thanks to Oliver. She was the only one who survived the fiasco, which was dubbed Perish Song Night. She also found out her left eye changed color.
Because of the fiasco, she was fired from her job.Ā
A week later, Red Army declared war on the Black Army. The next day, they faced off. Angel was nearby when it happened and was praying in her head for nothing bad to happen. That was when she accidentally repelled Lancelotā€™s magic, confusing everyone. It was enough for Blanc and Oliver to arrive and stop the conflict.
Two days after the face-off, Edgar finds Angel in her apartment, taking her to the Red Army HQ. There, Angel is made to serve the Red Army by using her magical abilities against the Black Army.

Reviewing time for MAG150 /X__X/
- ā€¦ So this is how you guys pronounce ā€œcul-de-sacā€, you absolute barbarians. (No, you donā€™t pronounce that L in Frenchā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦..)
- Statement-giver was, this week again, an absolute delight of sarcasm/self-awareness/casual self-deprecationā€¦ and so honest about his own faults and wrongs and personal pet-peeves that, even with the cheating, he didnā€™t seem antipathetic to me at all? Except for:
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œThereā€™s plenty of things Iā€™ve done I couldnā€™t explain to you. I mean, Iā€™m constantly, constantly looking back on my past self, and thinking: ā€œWhat an idiot. How the hell could he have down such an obviously stupid thing? How was I surprised it went so badly; what a relief Iā€™m now so much older, and wiser.ā€ ā€¦ Except that last part never really turns out to be true, does it? The line of when you were your dumb younger self seems to keep moving forwards with you, until each more mature and reasonable version of youā€¦ eventually falls foul of it, and becomesā€¦ a young idiot.ā€
YOUā€™RE RIGHT BUT YOU SHOULDNā€™T SAY ITā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ SHHHHHHHā€¦
- The moose thing. The effing moose thing. I love that in the middle of cheating and probably-depression/middle-age crisis and bad break-up, there was suddenly the mention of the moose:
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œIā€™d probably have stayed away forever if itā€¦ hadnā€™t been for the moose. There was aā€¦ carved wooden moose, you see, something Albertoā€™s grandfather had carved, apparently, and a real family heirloom. It was an ugly old thing, with thisā€¦ weird angular face that always made my skin crawl a bit. Iā€™d never let him display it in our house, so it had lived in one of the suitcases under the stairs. The suitcases Iā€™d pulled out and filled in a tearful rage when I was leaving. Soā€¦ yeah, Iā€™d kind of accidentally stolen the moose?ā€
How do you ā€œaccidentallyā€ steal a carved wooden moose. (But then, was it truly an accident? Herman must have seen it when filling a suitcase ā€“ so it may have beenā€¦ bitterness and anger in the spur of the moment, a mix of wanting to steal something precious to hurt someone he had loved, and keep something precious to a person he still loved, because it reminded him of him?)
- I got the Spiral-vibes of getting lost in the endless suburb, but to me, it was pretty clear from the start that this was a Lonely statement because:
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œYouā€™re all alone, trying to connect with people, trying to find your place in the world ā€“ but in the end, the only person you really know is yourself.ā€
ā€¦ was textbook what Peter had told poor Brian in his very first ā€˜on-screenā€™ appearance:
(MAG100) PETER: Peter Lukas! Lovely to meet you, Brian. Now, am I to understand ā€“ you donā€™t work here? BRIAN: Uh, no; I was just, umā€¦ making a sā€“statement, oā€“or, or whatever, uā€“umā€¦ PETER: Thatā€™s probably for the best. Elias can be quiteā€¦ ā€œprotectiveā€ of his people. [CHUCKLING] Never really understood why ā€“ I mean, in the end, the only person you really have is yourself! Wouldnā€™t you agree, Brian? BRIAN: Whā€“ Iā€“I donā€™tā€¦ Whatā€¦? PETER: Well. Plenty of time to make your mind up, Iā€™m, Iā€™m sure.
(Hi, This Was Another Incidental Reminder That Even If Heā€™s Not In This Episode And Only Mentioned In Jonā€™s Post-Statement: Peter Lukas Is Hella Bad News.)
- Gerry had described The Lonely as ā€œfeeling that youā€™re justā€¦ alone. Maybe thereā€™s no-one else there at all, maybe you just canā€™t connectā€ (MAG111); MAG150 reminded me mostly of MAG048 and MAG108 in that aspect ā€“ statement-givers surrounded by almost-people, the idea that things around are becoming empty shells, that people are fading/losing their identity? And in this episode, yeah, the dull repetitive suburb made a lot of sense (combined with impersonal TV shows and theā€¦ logic of them going wrong, the disconnect getting more and more pronounced as their actions made no sense and their words turned out to be unintelligible).
Two things strike me about The Lonely statements so far:
* They were either triggered by a Lukas (MAG013, MAG033, MAG057, MAG092, Peter Lukas being there-and-not-there throughout season 4), eitherā€¦ just happened for seemingly unknown reasons, just because the statement-givers had a personal rapport to isolation/loneliness/feeling singled out, initially taking comfort in it until it was twisted all over (MAG048, MAG150). (+ MAG108, but Adonisā€™s case is not clear to me: when Peter asked Martin ā€œDid [Elias] suggest you record a statement today? One that mentioned me?ā€, was it an exaggeration and was Peter talking about The Lonely in general? Or was it literal, and Peter had been in the audience, and the one responsible for messing up Adonis?)
* ā€¦ People who got out of it through an emotional anchor (Naomiā€™s dead fiancĆ© in MAG013, Andreaā€™s mother in MAG048, Hermanā€™s (ex-)husband in MAG150)ā€¦ got out of it. No ā€œhalf-finished mealsā€, as far as we know, amongst the people who escaped it? On the other side, Adonis dragged himself to the Institute before disappearing entirely but he knew it was coming, he hadnā€™t managed to escape it; same with Barnabas Bennett, who was stuck in The Lonely and only managed to transmit a call for help (that remained unanswered by Jonah). Yetunde Uthman apparently didnā€™t have any anchor and was a vulnerable target (Gerry had warned us that the Fears tended to pick on the vulnerable and people on the margins). There is still Carter, whose whereabouts are unknown (he was clearly messed up, but Jon didnā€™t mention if he was still around or not).
(ā€¦ but then, there is Martin, who seems to have begun using Lonely powers, and itā€™sā€¦ another matter entirely to get out of that, probably.)
- Given how Herman mentioned that Yetunde seemed to have died recently:
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œMy eyes found themselves focusing on the ceiling. On a small spot of red, that seemed to have seeped through from above. As I climbed those stairs, I desperately tried to tell myself I didnā€™t know what was going to be up there. And to be fair I was surprised by some of the details. But as soon as I saw the spot, I just knew thatā€¦ someone else was up there. And that they were dead. The only questions were ā€œhowā€, and ā€œwhoā€. I think Iā€™d given up on ā€œwhyā€. I didnā€™t know them, as it turned out. A young woman, conservatively dressed. Her face was bloody, butā€¦ I was sure I didnā€™t recognise her. She had a bag with her and her ID read ā€œYetunde Uthmanā€. Not a name Iā€™d ever encountered before. Just another victim of this place. [ā€¦] I donā€™t think sheā€™d been dead that long. But Iā€™m not a doctor, and I didnā€™t really try to check. Instead I turned and ran, all my tiredness gone in a sudden rush of adrenalin, down the stairs, out the door and into the night and the rows upon rows of bland, empty houses.ā€
ā€¦ I wonder if he got stuck in the Lonely place to replace her as a Fear-battery of some sort, because she had ended her own life? We may have got a similar case with Sean Kelly (MAG033): Jon mentioned that his body washed up six months after his disappearance on the boat, but that the coroner had established that ā€œit had only been in the water for five daysā€ ā€“ had he been stuck on the boat alone all this time, until he couldnā€™t stand it anymore and threw himself in the sea to make it stopā€¦?
- This weekā€™s static were (not including Jon when he Knew Melanie was at the door ā€“ whichā€¦ has happened a lot this season. The specific thing of Jon Knowing when someone is close / about to come in):
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œIā€™ve never seen [STATIC:] people happily living in a place so obviously dead. Two years we lived there. [/STATIC] Two years imprisoned in that beige, comfortable house, with the man I loved, watching our relationship turn toā€¦ sniping and snapping and bitter passive-aggression. [ā€¦] Because the sign said: [STATIC] ā€œRoadā€. No name. Just: [STATIC] ā€œRoadā€. [ā€¦] [STATIC] ā€œAvenueā€. ā€œCloseā€. ā€œWayā€. ā€œLaneā€. Only ever the suffix; never with the name attached.ā€
ā€¦ And I still donā€™t know what to make out of that first one? Is it about being Swallowed By Banal Life?
(The statement reminded me a looooooooooooooooot of Wajdi Mouawadā€™s Seuls, actually, and oh. This play is indeed such a sheer complete utter Lonely mood.)
- ā€¦ itā€™s rare, but this one wasā€¦ kind of a sweet ending?
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œIt was Alberto. He wasā€¦ calling me. I donā€™t know how, but the tears came even faster now as I answered, sobbing with relief to hear him yelling at me for taking so long. Had I forgotten? Was I even planning to bother? I tried to reply, to explain, but all I could manage to say, to get through the shaking sobsā€¦ was ā€œI love youā€. He wentā€¦ very quiet. And then he hung up. It didnā€™t matter though, because when I looked around, the windows of the houses were lit, and a woman was coming down from her front door to ask if I needed help with my car. ā€¦ Weā€™re working on it, the two of us. Weā€™re not exactly back together yet, but I think itā€™s going well. Heā€™s reluctant to sell the house, but Iā€™ve made it quite clear that Iā€™m never going back to the suburbs. Even if I canā€™tā€¦ really tell him why. I checked. To see if I could find anything about Yetunde Uthman. And I did find a few old social media profiles. But I wasnā€™t able to get through to any family or friends. As far as I can tell she disappeared a year ago. And nobody noticed.ā€
Not perfect but: it helped to push Herman to acknowledge that he still loved Alberto, they reconnected, the fact that theyā€™re working on their relationship is honestly the best possible outcome ā€“ things arenā€™t perfect butā€¦ oddly hopeful? Although, at the same time, we had confirmation of what happened to Yetunde, who hadnā€™t been so lucky.
- ā€¦ and at the same time, FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF did that statement feel like Specifically Going After Jon.
Main relationship about a duo of romantically involved males who (got) separated, snappy statement-giver who canā€™t stand monotony, who had the feeling of being ā€œimprisonedā€ for ā€œtwo yearsā€ and then got trapped alone (ā€¦ Martin and Jon have been ā€œtrappedā€ for almost three years at this point), bitterness and annoyance covering up remnants of love; statement-giver wanting to see Alberto again, getting stuck in The Lonely, managing to get out of it thanks to his lover calling himā€¦ Jon, right after: Have I mentioned Martin recently.
(And I feel, too, that we heard a lot moreā€¦ background corporeal noises than usual, in this statement? Here and there, we could hear sounds as though Jon was shifting ā€“ uncomfortable? Trying to get out of the statementā€™s trance as an experiment? It was especially jarring there:
(MAG150, Herman Gorgoli) ā€œā€¦ Maybe I was hoping for a fight. Or justā€¦ to see him again. I donā€™t know. I was younger then. Foolish. [HUFF]ā€
That part was followed by some ruffling of clothes and, I think, a faint scraping of his chair? It wasā€¦ quite noticeable.)
- Which makes me wonder: why did Jon read this statement? Becauseā€¦ it sounded way too targeted to feel like a coincidence? Annabelle made fun of Jon (and us :w) for not being sure of when and where Beholding and The Web were influencing him, if there was any influence at all, butā€¦ itā€™s still an actual question. Or is it that Jon was drawn towards a statement matching his feelings and mood, on his own?
If itā€™s Beholding-or-Web, why would they push him towards this specific statement, which seems to be basically just talking about Jonā€™s relationship with Martin and giving him tips on how to get Martin back? Because indeed, Jon seemed to entirely miss the point, if there was any (that to get out of The Lonelyā€™s influence, which is insidious enough to make you feel like youā€™re embracing isolation on your own, you have to rely on connections ā€“ in both ways, to reach and be reached):
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: Statement ends. The Lonely isā€¦ possibly the most insidious of the powers, I believe. Certainly it is the one thatā€¦ most delights in having you do its work for it. Even the Spiders seem to have a hard time matching it for sheer seductiveness. [HUFF] ā€œTime to yourselfā€, ā€œself-careā€, ā€œputting yourself forwardā€ā€¦ ā€œnot being a burden on those you care aboutā€ā€¦ [PAUSE] It doesnā€™t even need to tell you any lies; just waits for the lies you tell yourself. [ā€¦] And at least none of us is suffering alone. ā€¦ Martinā€™s got it the worst, of course. But it still seems to be his choice. And I have to trust that he knows what heā€™s doing.
And yeah, Missing The Point is a typical Jon thing; but here, it feltā€¦ even more than that. Pointedly ignoring the statement to talk about another logic. ā€¦ Is Jon fearing that Beholding-or-The-Web are trying to push him to reach for Martin and/or get him out of Lukasā€™s influence, and assuming that thatā€™s precisely a reason why he shouldnā€™t try to pull Martin outā€¦?
The matter of ā€œtrusting Martinā€ had been brought up with Basira first:
(MAG127) ARCHIVIST: Do they? ā€¦ Wā€“wā€“who elseā€“ Did Martin say something? BASIRA: ā€¦ It was a few months back. After the attack. Heā€™d started spending time with Lukas. At least, he said he was. And I wanted answers. He kept telling me to trust him, to hear the guy out even though he still wouldnā€™t actually show his face. I told him he couldā€¦ drop me an email or vanish me.
(MAG129) BASIRA: Then everything ended, and Daisy was gone. And you were gone. And Tim. And then I got back to the Institute, and Martin sent me to meet the new boss. Then I stood alone in an empty office for more than one hour. I can trust me, Jon. Thatā€™s it. ARCHIVIST: [SIGH]
So is Jon reacting in opposition to Basira because he saw what happened to her? Is he sticking to his decision to ā€œtrustā€ the assistants that he had stated in MAG117? When it comes to his involvement with Peter, Martin has never actually told Jon to trust him; itā€™s something that Jon came to on his own and tried to stick to, even though heā€™s been obviously forcing himself and uneasy about the whole situation:
(MAG129) ARCHIVIST: No, itā€™s fine, I know youā€™ve gotā€¦ whatever this is, Iā€™m not going to question you. MARTIN: Thank you.
(MAG139) ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ [SIGH] Iā€™m just worried about Martin. ā€¦ Christā€¦ Every other Avatar gets to have their feelingsā€¦ burned right out of them, but me? Iā€™veā€¦ just got to sit in mine. ā€¦ I know he said he had everything under control. I needā€¦ to trust him; whatever heā€™s doing with Peter, heā€™sā€¦ he knows what heā€™s doing. Probably. I justā€“ ā€¦ [VERY FAST] I need him to be okay. I just do.
Itā€™s still curious how Jon is sticking to this ideaā€¦? Is it because Jon knows a bit more about Martinā€™s whereabouts than he has been telling on tape? (His affirmation that ā€œMartinā€™s got it the worst, of course.ā€ wasā€¦ a bit strange ā€“ how can Jon be so certain of that?) Is it because Martin was a bit more explicit to Daisy that they had to rely on him? (Since Daisy spotted the recorder at the end of MAG142 while Martin and her were still discussing, and she told him that she had reported their conversation to Jon in MAG144 ā€“ we might have missed some information outside of the recording.) Is it because Jon learned from the end of season 3 that Martin knew how to hide his plan, and then Jon might be overestimating him in that regard, thinking that Martin will be able to take down Peter? Is it because it has become a convenient excuse for Jon to not interact with Martin ā€“ because heā€™s afraid that Martin will be too disappointed and disgusted with what Jon has done and becomeā€¦?
(Jon felt especially self-deprecative with the ā€œnot being a burden on those you care aboutā€, followed by a pauseā€¦)
- Hey! We now have canon footage of Jon saying ā€œI love youā€, cheers!
- Surprise!awareness with Jon pointing out the danger Peter represents:
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: Weā€™reā€¦ all well aware that with Peter Lukas in charge of the Institute, itā€™s a very real danger to all of us. We are trying. Daisy, Basira and I, we donā€™t leave the Institute much anymore ā€“ so we do spend a lot of time together. Itā€™s not that easy, though. When everyone has so many walls, so many defencesā€¦ [SIGH] sometimes you can feel lonely even when youā€™re in the same room. ā€¦ But itā€™s better than the alternative. And at least none of us is suffering alone.
ā€¦ at the same time, that arrangement soundsā€¦ so stiff and awkward. They ā€œspend a lot of time togetherā€. Sure, with close friends, you donā€™t need to do things together to be at ease and have an amazing time in the same room. But still; itā€¦ sounds so cold and impersonal, with Jonā€™s wordsā€¦?
- ;; The vocabularyā€¦
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: Statement of Herman Gorgoli, regarding his period trapped alone in a suburban area of Cheadle. Original statement written 9th November, 2014. Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, the Archivist. Statement begins. [ā€¦] MELANIE: Jon, have you got a moment? ARCHIVIST: Uhā€¦ [DOOR CLOSES] Of course, I was just, umā€¦ having a statement. MELANIE: Uhā€¦ an, an old one? ARCHIVIST: Whā€“ Yes, an old one! Iā€™m notā€“ Iā€™m doing my best.
Thatā€¦ was, I think, the first time Jon introduced a statement as ā€œwrittenā€ (instead of the usual ā€œgivenā€). I reaaaally hope that itā€™s because Jon is not perceiving the live-statements as the actual given ones, because we saw multiple times that people didnā€™t have a choice when it came to them (Jon would make them tell him their story, whether they consent to it or not); is it because heā€™s becoming suspicious of the written ones being dub/nonconā€™d out of people tooā€¦? In any case, that ā€œwrittenā€ wasā€¦ odd.
The ā€œhaving a statementā€ was awful and, yeah, addict getting his fix. ā€¦ And at the same time, making me awfully sad: because these are peopleā€™s stories and at the moment, theyā€™re just handled likeā€¦ food. Theyā€™re consumed, and nothing else: once again, Jon wasnā€™t interested in any follow-up, he didnā€™t have a thought for Herman. We only heard about Yetunde Uthmanā€™s disappearance because Herman searched her up and reported on it ā€“ and usually, it would have been part of the follow-up that Jon or the assistants would have provided? They would have checked for the time of her disappearance, they would have tried to find out if a missing report was filed, where and when? But here, nothing from Jon, who prefers to focus on the Fear dynamic (like he did in MAG125 when he tried to get meta on the Slaughter and the idea of control). And in the same way, we havenā€™t heard of Jonā€™s victims from season 4 at all except for Jessā€™s complaint in MAG142 and Jon describing what he had done in MAG146 ā€“ it feels like, for the team Archivesā€¦ theyā€™ve ceased to exist as people past the fact that Jon attacked themā€¦?
(Once again, I!! still!! find!! it!! hard!! to be emotional over Jon right now, to feel sad or emotionally invested in him. Because: heā€™s not the primary victim. Depressed and in a bad place, sure; but the people he hurt donā€™t have a protagonist status ensuring theyā€™re heard, and I want to hear about them the mostā€¦)
- ALRIGHT, SO.
M e l a n i e, holy Mew. Everything Melanie.
(MAG150) MELANIE: Look. [INHALE] Iā€™m not going to do my job anymore. ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ I am not sure I follow, youā€“you know weā€¦ we canā€™tā€¦ quit, weā€™ve all tried. MELANIE: I didnā€™t say I was going to quit. I said: Iā€™m not going to do my job. No researching; no filing; noā€¦ field trips. Nothing that is going to help the Institute in any way. Iā€™ll still be around, I justā€¦ ARCHIVIST: [SIGH] MELANIE: I canā€™t be a part of this anymore. If, if I get sick, I get sick. And, and if I dieā€¦ ARCHIVIST: Why? MELANIE: Because this place is evil, Jon! And soā€¦ doing this jobā€¦ ARCHIVIST: [LOUD EXHALE] MELANIE: Helping it outā€¦ even in small ways, iā€“is in some wayā€¦ evil too! Every time we try to use it to do good, it just seems to make everything worse, andā€¦ and I will not be a part of that anymore. ARCHIVIST: What about The Unknowing? We, we saved the world! MELANIE: Did we? Iā€¦ I mean, Iā€“I think it was the right thing to do, but how many people were killed to do it? We, we werenā€™t even a neutral party; we did it as agents of The Eye, because Elias told us to. ARCHIVIST: Anā€“and then you put him in jail! MELANIE: Martin put him there. And, andā€“and heā€™s still doing harm. [INHALE] You ever think that maybe this wholeā€¦ ritual business is just an excuse, anā€“and that weā€™re all part of someā€¦ huge miserable Fear-machine? ARCHIVIST: [SIGH] Iā€™veā€¦ considered the possibility. MELANIE: Right. Well. If Iā€™mā€¦ just another cog, erā€¦ Maybe I canā€™t leave the machine, but from this moment? Iā€“Iā€“Iā€™m not turning. Iā€™mā€¦ jammed. [SIGH]
* I love how you could hear Melanieā€™s efforts when it came to communication all through the exchange. Sheā€™s struggling with words, they have trouble coming out of her, almost physically; you can hear that they donā€™t want to come out, but she keeps pushing through. Even at the end, when she pointed out to Jon ā€œLook, Iā€¦ didnā€™t come here for a fight. Iā€¦ just wanted to let you know what was going on.ā€: she put efforts into not answering with anger, she softened a bit.
* Jon had already singled her out by mentioning that Basira, Daisy and he were spending time together (leaving out Melanie) and that they werenā€™t leaving the Institute much anymore. We knew that it wasnā€™t the case for Melanie, since she had been told to frequently leave it: she was going to therapy in MAG136, Daisy said that she was out in MAG142, Georgie came to pick her up in MAG145 and MAG149. Unlike the others, Melanie has managed to reconnect with a life outside of the Institute ā€“ she has put work in her recovery, she relied on someone who was staying out of spooky matters (Georgie), she separated herself from a place she has deemed toxic. It only feel logical that she would reach the mental state and the decision toā€¦ cut her connection to The Eye even further.
* Itā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ fitsā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.. her so wellā€¦ Iā€™m not sure Iā€™m explaining it well but, with MAG117 and her rant about Elias (which really felt like a ā€œdown with the patriarchyā€ one?), I had gotten the feeling that Melanieā€¦ fitted well with ā€œactivismā€ as a notion: denouncing and firmly refusing to close her eyes in the face of things sticking out to her as unfair or oppressive.
* ā€œControlā€ and ā€œchoicesā€ have been extremely present themes this season andā€¦ Melanie is putting her own touch in that picture. Regaining control over her life, but also highlighting that even though theyā€™re stuck in the Archives, theyā€™re in that ā€œdead endā€ too, they still have options and that even passively serving The Eye is still serving, is still choosing to feed a Fear-machine; and that they still have the possibility toā€¦ plainly stop. She didnā€™t say it but the idea is also quite clear that Jon still reading statements for his own survival is, in parallel, an active choice on its own. And itā€™s true that Jon never questioned or wondered about the possibility of stopping even though it would make him suffer ā€“ when he realised he was experiencing withdrawal without them in MAG107, he just decided that he would roll with it because his priority was still to stop The Unknowing and he couldnā€™t afford to waste time pondering about it:
(MAG107) ARCHIVIST: It looks like the recording of statements has now passed over from psychological compulsion intoā€¦ a more physical dependence. I donā€™t whether this isā€¦ some sort of classical addiction or something a bit deeper. But either way, this is not the time for experimentation. Iā€™m on a deadline, and if I need to be reading statements to stay well enough, then I suppose thatā€™s what I shall do.
But in season 4, itā€™s not something he thought about questioning, or at least, not out loud. We still hear him reading statements. Heā€™s currently choosing to try to not attack people anymore, sure, and it indeed means not hurting any more innocentsā€¦ But itā€™s true that even reading statements is not an ā€œinnocentā€ act, if itā€™s also feeding The Eye.
* Melanieā€™s choice is radical and isā€¦ probably the bravest thing ever done by a character this series, along with Sasha jumping at Tim to save him from Jane Prentiss?
And there are many ways itā€™s going to turn awful for her ā€“ she mentioned it would probably be bad, could go to ā€œdyingā€ level. We heard from Tim that trying to run away from the Institute was bad. Even if Melanie manages to stick to it, in exchange for the comfort of sticking to her ideal, it will be pain and misery. It means the others will witness it. Iā€™m not even sure that Jon will let her carry through with it ā€“ given how he didnā€™t ā€œwant to lose anyone elseā€ in MAG118 and still lost Tim. Itā€™s going to be bad, and Iā€™m so, so impressed that Melanie is choosing to take that road, because it makes sense, but still: itā€™s a personal sacrifice, without glory, and yet it sounds like the most effective thing to do to stop feeding The Eye and to not participate in the Fears business.
* (ā€¦ Iā€™m not even sure, though, that Melanieā€™s sufferings (and/or that Jon observing it) wouldnā€™tā€¦ feed The Eye, incidentally.)
* GUUUUUUUH, I love the direction the similarities she shared with Tim tookā€¦ We knew that they had discussed together off-record:
(MAG106) ELIAS: You already have doubts, though. Youā€™ve been talking with Tim, and have convinced yourself thatā€“ MELANIE: [DRY LAUGHTER] ELIAS: ā€“even if Iā€™m telling the truth, Iā€™m too dangerous to live. MELANIE: Well.
There were a few random/comic bits ā€“ both Tim and Melanie had expressed some longing for the real Sasha, both are bit more crude than the other characters (holders of ā€œfuckā€ and ā€œassholeā€). Both expressed wariness/disgust for the tape recorders:
(MAG098) MARTIN: [ā€¦] Have you seen [Jon] sinceā€¦? TIM: [GRUNT] Kind of. We tried to talk, but he, he reached for thatā€“ Ah, he, he wanted to turn on his recorder. I freaked out a bit, and I said some stuff: if he wanted to talk, no tapes, I just, I just hate that thing.
(MAG136) THERAPIST: Right, have a seat. Do you mind if I record our sessions? MELANIE: I do mind. Yes. THERAPIST: Ah? I mean, itā€™s just for my own notes. MELANIE: I categorically and completely do not give consent for you to make any recording of me, ever. Turn it off. Please.
But what was striking this episode is how close Melanieā€™s words were to Tim, when it came to the Institute and their work there:
(MAG098) TIM: Still doing those? MARTIN: ā€¦ Yeah. Yeahā€¦ I did ask Elias if I could stop. TIM: And he said ā€œnoā€ for a mysterious reason? MARTIN: I donā€™t know? I mean, he kind of explained ā€“ I think? Jonā€™s ā€œtoo inconsistentā€ at the moment. He needs to make up for the shortfall, which, I guess, means me. ā€¦ Unless youā€¦ TIM: No. MARTIN: He did suggest I try to get you involved, andā€“ TIM: And I suggest that he not be a scary, magic psychopath. ā€¦ Whoops! Too late. MARTIN: ā€¦ Yeah. TIM: [SIGH] ā€¦ Sorry. MARTIN: No, Iā€“ I get it. Heh. Theyā€™re not exactly much fun. TIM: Look, itā€™s not that. Iā€¦ [SIGH] This place is evil, Martin. And I think doing what It wants? Probably makes us evil. And It wants those things to be read. I mean, Iā€™m not gonna stop you, but, at the same timeā€“ MARTIN: Iā€“ I get it.
[ā€¦] ARCHIVIST: Why? MELANIE: Because this place is evil, Jon! And soā€¦ doing this jobā€¦ ARCHIVIST: [LOUD EXHALE] MELANIE: Helping it outā€¦ even in small ways, iā€“is in some wayā€¦ evil too! Every time we try to use it to do good, it just seems to make everything worse, andā€¦ and I will not be a part of that anymore.
And Tim was the only one of the assistants to experience the sickness of not serving The Eye anymore/trying to flee, which Melanie took into account in her decision:
(MAG090) TIM: I hopped a flight to Malaysia. Found myself a hotel. ELIAS: I see. ā€¦ You were trying to leave us? TIM: Yeahā€¦! ELIAS: But youā€™ve returned. TIM: Iā€¦ I got sick. The longer I was goneā€¦ I felt weak, likeā€¦ like I was, I was losing myselfā€¦
(MAG150) MELANIE: Iā€™ll still be around, I justā€¦ I canā€™t be a part of this anymore. If, if I get sick, I get sick. And, and if I dieā€¦
And although Melanie and Tim share a reasoning, their conclusionsā€¦ differ so greatly. Tim fell into depression (confirmed by Mike in the Assistants Round Table) and ultimately chose anger and self-destruction as his answer. Melanieā€¦ goes with something that is technically self-destructing, too, but which also feels like self-preserving ā€“ and more interestingly, without anger, although it had been a long-term companion over the course of her life?
* Goooods, we got Basira and Martin visiting Elias in prison ā€“ now, I want Melanie visiting him and taking none of his shit anymore. Iā€™m worried it would go super badly for her because Elias can be shitty when he wants to be, but still wantā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ Melanie uncomfortable but resisting her anger and not letting him get under her skin this time aroundā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.
* Iā€™m a bit worried over what Jon will take out of the exchange, however, since:
1Ā°) Unlike Melanie, he has continued constantly feeding The Eye by reading the statements. The comparison does him a disservice.
2Ā°) What Melanie said about The Unknowing:
(MAG150) MELANIE: Helping it outā€¦ even in small ways, iā€“is in some wayā€¦ evil too! We, we werenā€™t even a neutral party; we did it as agents of The Eye, because Elias told us to.
ā€¦ was absolutely fair and true. Nikola had pointed out to Tim just before he exploded the place:
(MAG119) NIKOLA: Youā€¦ idiot! Do you really think the world will fare any better under the Watcher? You think youā€™re saving anyone? TIM: I donā€™t care.
But it also tells Jon that there is absolutely no way serving The Eye (or even being trapped with it) can do anything good, ever; that there is no positiveness to take out of their awful situation. Jon had made out of MAG127ā€™s statement that the Institute had been created in evil purpose, that the aim of the place had always been badā€¦ but itā€™s something else to be told from one of the assistant that stopping The Unknowing wasnā€™t even a ā€œvictoryā€. That Tim died almost for nothing, unwillingly furthering the interests of something he hated although he was pursuing his own revenge.
I doubt Jonā€™s defensiveness was out of loyalty for The Eye, but itā€™s true that this is not the first time it popped up this season (in MAG129, when he tried to argue with Martin that The Eye hadnā€™t gone ā€œafter our ownā€ unlike Peter); it might be that Jon was still clinging to the hope that at least, getting compromised and twisted and ā€œbecoming a monsterā€ could at least mean getting powerful enough to protect innocents and/or the world, that they could still find meaning in thatā€¦ and no. Jon has been attacking innocents; and heā€™s being reminded that the Institute is not neutral. (And indeed: what about The Eyeā€™s own ritualā€¦)
* On the matter of isolation and of Jon lacking connectionsā€¦ although I am delighted by Melanieā€™s announcement, it also sounded like a goodbye. She did point out that she would still be there, but by deciding that she would stop working for The Eye, that she wouldnā€™t do anything resembling Archival assistant workā€¦ it sounded, to me, like she was ā€œleavingā€ the Archives, and Jon too, on an emotional level. And Iā€™m a bit worried that Jon would take it the wrong way: given that Martin doesnā€™t want to interact with him, and that now, Melanie is cutting one of their only connections, heā€™s getting even more isolated, abandoned by them?
(When talking with Gerry, Jon had called The Lonely ā€œisolationā€ before learning its usual denomination, and itā€¦ might be telling that heā€™s more sensible to that aspect.)
- Aaaaaaaaaaaand Jon was thinking that Melanieā€™s therapist could be Annabelle, too, and itā€™s SO SILLY presented this way:
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ Did yourā€¦ therapist suggest this? [ā€¦] Melanie, could youā€¦ could you describe your therapist for me? MELANIE: [CHUCKLING] What? You think I wouldnā€™t notice if she had cobwebs down her face? ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ No? MELANIE: [DEEP INHALE] Thatā€™s it, isnā€™t it? [EXHALE] Youā€¦ you really think Iā€™m so stupid I wouldnā€™t have noticed if my therapist was some kind of monster! ARCHIVIST: I justā€¦ It was a worry. MELANIE: Right, rightā€¦ Okay: I know. That is why I ruined my first four sessions, and almost torpedoed the chance at a genuinely, really good therapist, because I was so paranoid that she was going to turn out to be someā€¦ some thing trying to manipulate me ā€“ but no. Sheā€™s not full of spiders, or made of wax, or wearing the therapistā€™s skin, or whatever: sheā€™s just a well-trained professional, who I am paying to help me. ARCHIVIST: Oā€“kay. [SIGH] Itā€™s justā€¦ The Web can be subtle, you understand? MELANIE: And? For all you know, its plan is to paralyse you with indecisionā€¦! ARCHIVIST: [SIGH] MELANIE: Leaving youā€¦ sitting here, terrified thatā€¦ everything you do is somehow all part of its Grand Planā€¦ And who do you think that fear is gonna feed? ARCHIVIST: Yes, well. [INHALE] You areā€¦ not the first, to make that point.
To be fair: Jon and Melanie hadnā€™t identified Elias as an Eye cultist when they were new to it, and Jon is apparently unable to focus on his Web-lighter ā€“ the therapist could still beā€¦ something (someone relevant and/or an avatar). Iā€™m glad, though, that the therapy seems to be working!! (ā€¦ although Iā€™m a bit worried because, on the one hand, Melanie Got It when she points out sheā€™s paying a professional to help her; on the other hand, the way she said her therapist was ā€œgenuinely, really goodā€ feltā€¦ weird to me? Itā€™s not something Iā€™d say of mine? I would talk about methods and how itā€™s working for me but notā€¦ compliment like this.)
- Crying very hard that Melanie is absolutely spot-on on the fact that The Web is mostly a perfect culprit for Jon, at the moment. Once again. Because that was his idea in MAG146 ā€“ MAG147, too.
Itā€™s interesting how Jon has been settling more and more with referring to The Web as ā€œthe Spider(s)ā€ this season!
(MAG081) ARCHIVIST: I do not know how many of them there are, or precisely how they separate, but I do know that the Eye ā€“ Beholding ā€“ was not the first that I encountered in my life. The first was the Spider. The Web. And I have no idea what that might mean.
(MAG130) ARCHIVIST: I found this tape tucked in the corner of my desk drawer. [AGGRAVATED SIGH] Covered in cobwebs. I suppose subtlety is gone out the window a bit. And the question is now simply ā€¦ how much I trust the Spider to have myā€¦ best interests at heart.
It fits him, and I still do like how The Web is actually referred to in feminine form (ā€œsheā€, ā€œMotherā€, ā€œMother-of-Puppetsā€) by People In The Known, but Jon tends to go with ā€œitā€ ā€“ itā€™sā€¦ probably more of a ā€œheā€ for him, too, because of his own personal experience, given how he (almost) met ā€œMr. Spiderā€? Heā€™s not been the only one going with ā€œthe Spiderā€ this season, though, it sounds like an actual way to refer to it:
(MAG121) OLIVER: Honestly, Iā€™mā€¦ still not exactly sure why Iā€™m here. Butā€¦ you know better than anyone how the spiders can get into your head. Easier to just do what She asks!
(MAG128, Breekon) ā€œA thrumming, silk-wrapped thing of the Spider, hiding away in an old steamer trunk. [ā€¦] The Spiderā€™s always an easy job ā€“ no fuss, no complication, everything planned and prepared. It knows too much to truly be a Stranger, but hides its knowing well enough to endure.ā€
(MAG136) DAISY: [SCOFF] Sheā€™sā€¦ Web. Spiderā€™s sneaky like that. [PAUSE] Like that lighter youā€™re always using. Whereā€™d you get that?
(MAG146) HELEN: There isā€¦ something wrong, with Hill Top Road. You know it as well as I do. Some strange ā€œscar in realityā€ at the centre ofā€¦ whatever it is the Spider is spinning. [ā€¦] But the Spiderā€™s strings are subtle, so I suppose itā€™s not impossible. Why?
(MAG148) ELIAS: Uh! Look, look, look. Iā€™veā€¦ been doing this a long time now and, if thereā€™s one thing Iā€™ve learned about The Web, itā€™s that it plays its own game. All you can really do isā€¦ hope it doesnā€™t get in the way of whatever your plan is. Because the Spider usually winsā€¦!
(Although Elias/Daisy/maybe Helen could have picked up the habit from Jon.)
- rgefdjerkfd
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ Did yourā€¦ therapist suggest this? MELANIE: Nā€“notā€¦ not exactly. ā€¦ Sheā€™s justā€¦ helped me work through some things Iā€™ve been thinking for a while, uh, she doesnā€™t know the details. Just that Iā€™m in a ā€œbad contract situationā€ working somewhere pretty awful. [HUFF] ā€¦ She thinks I work for the Tories. ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ Godā€¦
I love that 1Ā°) this is how the therapist translated Melanieā€™s situation, 2Ā°) that for Jon and Melanie, being bound to an eldritch entity feeding of pain and fear that is trying to reshape the world as a factory farm is stillā€¦ way better than the perspective of working for the Tories. BABES, I LOVE YOU.
- Especially given how we only know that not serving The Eye means getting sick because Tim experienced it, that Tim had been the first one to call the Institute ā€œevilā€ and to point out that working for it meant corrupting themselves, and given how The Unknowing was mentionedā€¦ Iā€™m still utterly baffled that Tim wasnā€™t even namedropped in this episode. I still kind of hope that there is something coming about it because? It was super-weird?
- Guuuuh, Melanie and Daisy are so good this season!!
(MAG150) MELANIE: If you need me, Iā€™ll be trying to get Daisy drunk. ARCHIVIST: [STATIC] Good luck. It only ever happened once in 2006, she drank aā€“ ā€¦ Sorry. Didnā€™t mean to. MELANIE: Sure. See you around.
ā€¦ and pffft: Martin highlighted that Daisy was ā€œpretty observantā€ (MAG142), and we now have confirmation that Daisy very rarely gets drunkā€¦ which means sheā€™s probably used to watching people get wasted around her? To hear compromising stuff while she remains sober? Daisy, youā€™ve been getting a lot of Beholding points lately.
- That means that, right now, three members out of four of Team Archives are under withdrawal: Daisy is resisting the call of her blood/The Hunt, Jon has stopped taking live-statements (and ;; isnā€™t recovering well from their trip to Svalbard: MAG150, ā€œā€¦ Still feeling weak. Restless. I want to be proactive, but there hasnā€™tā€¦! That hasnā€™t been going quite so well for us lately.ā€ He probably wonā€™t truly heal until he takes oneā€¦), Melanie has now stopped working for The Eye.
- Alright, so both with Jon commenting that Basira-Daisy-and-him are spending a lot of time together bundled up in the Institute (in the Archives / in the tunnels?), and Melanie announcing that she would stop to do any work for the Archivesā€¦ What are they spending their time on? Because Melanieā€™s decision implies that the assistants were currently still doing research and follow-ups, although we havenā€™t heard a trace of it lately: in season 1 and 2, Jon was constantly crediting his assistantsā€™ work during follow-up; in season 3, we heard them adding some data after the statements they had read, and we had a few mentions of Jon asking for their help while he was away. In season 4, Jon highlighted here and there that it wasnā€™t the case anymore:
(MAG122) ARCHIVIST: Statement ends. [EXHALE] Well thatā€¦ certainly helped, I think. No notes or follow-up in the statement, and obviously no research done by myself orā€¦ my team.
(MAG123) ARCHIVIST: Statement ends. The Web does seem to have a preference for those who prefer not to assert themselves. The investigation is tricky, I donā€™t want to impose on Basira and, obviously, Melanie andā€¦ Martinā€¦ arenā€™t available, but I did do some light searching myself on Gregory Cox.
(MAG124) ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ Of course, even if I did want to do research into the statement, I wouldnā€™t have any help doing so. Itā€™s been a week andā€¦ Melanieā€™s attitude towards me hasnā€™t softened. And Basira, though she is very willing to talk, still doesnā€™t seem to trust me enough to let me in on whatever plans she might have ā€“ if she has any plans at all, of course.
(MAG126) ARCHIVIST: I did do a small bit of follow-up on Deborah Madaki, just for my own curiosity. She didnā€™t go to Sannikov Land in the end.
And Jon admitted in MAG148 that he was less interested in doing a follow-up, which he has indeedā€¦ stopped doing at all at this point. Annabelle had also portrayed Jon as unable to not read out a statement once he has it in mind nowadays (MAG147: ā€œBut think about it, Jon: whenā€™s the last time you were able to read a statement quietly to yourself without instinctively hitting record and speaking it aloud? It is just instinct? Habit? Or is it a compulsion ā€“ a string pulled by the Ceaseless Watcher or the Mother of Puppets? Or both? I know the summaries have started to confuse you. Where did they come from, when you read a statement fresh? How do you justā€¦ sort of know what itā€™s about, before you even start to read itā€¦? But by then, youā€™re away: the roller coaster is dropping and youā€™ve no real choice but to hold on and hope thatā€¦ I donā€™t crash you.ā€), although she might have been trying to confuse him on purpose (sinceā€¦ he had done follow-up into statements shortly before that episode, which implied doing some work before reading the statements out loudā€¦? Or is it that the overall glimpses of what-this-statement-is-about-before-reading-it were enough to do some research?).
But in any case: there was no mention of Basira, Daisy or Melanie providing any follow-up this season. Soā€¦ what have they been doing, in the Archives, that counted as ā€œassistant workā€ to not get sick? Follow-ups on past statements? On statements we havenā€™t heard yet? On dummy statements? Or did they just do some filing and/or organising (like Tim was moving boxes around in MAG104)?
- Weā€™re going back to the ā€œassistants canā€™t quitā€ deal and aaaactually:
(MAG150) MELANIE: Look. [INHALE] Iā€™m not going to do my job anymore. ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ I am not sure I follow, youā€“you know weā€¦ we canā€™tā€¦ quit, weā€™ve all tried.
If we trust his words (ā€¦), Elias indeed confirmed the trapping aspect (MAG092: ā€œBasira is now tied to the Institute. All of you are. Like fingers on a hand. And I am the beating heart of it. Should I, or the Institute, be destroyed, you will all, unfortunately, follow suit.ā€), but Iā€™m curious about Jonā€™s ā€œweā€™ve all triedā€ā€¦ because as far as we know, only Tim tried to quit?
(MAG065) ARCHIVIST: Then quit! If you hate it so much, leave your post in the Archives. Permanently. TIM: Youā€™re firing me? ARCHIVIST: ā€¦ Iā€™m offering you a chance to quit. No notice period, Iā€™ll even make sure you get the rest of the monthā€™s paycheck. [PAUSE] Just say the words. [STATIC RISES] TIM: I want to. ARCHIVIST: So do it. TIM: Iā€¦ ā€¦ canā€™t. ARCHIVIST: [SOFTLY] Why notā€¦? TIM: Iā€¦ Iā€¦ Iā€“I canā€™t! I donā€™t knowā€¦ Why canā€™t I quit?! ARCHIVIST: Iā€“I donā€™t know. But I donā€™t think I can fire you either. TIM: What? ARCHIVIST: Itā€™s this place. TIM: I donā€™t understand. ARCHIVIST: Neither do I. [STATIC FADES] Iā€™m trying to figure it out, Iā€™veā€“ Iā€™ve got the shape of it butā€¦ Iā€™m sorry, Tim. Truly I am. But I cannot, and will not, trust you. This place isnā€™t right, you see that now. I donā€™t know how or why, but there is something very wrong with the Archives. And I donā€™t know who here is a victim of itā€¦ and who is an agent. TIM: Soā€¦ what do we do? ARCHIVIST: For now? I suppose we justā€¦ do our jobs. TIM: I donā€™t want to. ARCHIVIST: Noā€¦
(MAG079) TIM: There is something in this place, and itā€™s messing up our heads. It watches us all the time. It stops me quitting. Iā€™m pretty sure it would stop Elias firing Jon even if he decided to actually try running this place for once. MARTIN: Youā€™re sure you donā€™t just want to stay? TIM: Iā€™m. sure. MARTIN: But, like, deep downā€“ TIM: No. MARTIN: ā€¦ Oh.
ā€¦ But the others donā€™t seem to have tested these boundaries as far as we knew? Martin is unclear (although he mentioned feeling trapped in MAG039 and MAG117); we didnā€™t witness Melanie trying to actually flee (although Elias mentioned to Jon that ā€œEven more than the others she has a visceral hatred of being trapped. Regardless of how much freedom I afford her.ā€ in MAG102); and it had been pointed out how Basira hadnā€™t even tried:
(MAG095) MARTIN: Kinda thought your job was to be a hostage. [ā€¦] Shouldnā€™t you be, I donā€™t know, trying to escape? BASIRA: Sure. Howā€™s that gone for you? MARTIN: What? BASIRA: The way Tim tells it, weā€™re all in the same boat here. So, howā€™s your escape plan coming? [NOISES OF CONFUSED EXASPERATION] MARTIN: Howā€¦ Doesnā€™t it bother you?!
(MAG112) DAISY: Youā€™re getting comfortable with all those books. Donā€™t forget why youā€™re here. BASIRA: I know where I am, Daisy, and I know that Iā€™m a prisoner. DAISY: And you want to escape. BASIRA: Yeah. But not on my own. Weā€™re working on something. Iā€™ll ask Melanie to fill you in.
And Jon himself was a weird case ā€“ he indeed fled the Institute at the end of season 2, but it was moreā€¦ circumstantial? And he didnā€™t come back because he was getting sick like Tim?
- Oufffffffttt, Jonā€¦
(MAG150) ARCHIVIST: Uhā€¦ [DOOR CLOSES] Of course, I was just, umā€¦ having a statement. MELANIE: Uhā€¦ an, an old one? ARCHIVIST: Whā€“ Yes, an old one! Iā€™m notā€“ Iā€™m doing my best. MELANIE: ā€¦ Sure.
ā€¦ What is the definition of his ā€œbestā€, here? Staying in the Archives and accepting to be tailed by the othersā€¦? Thatā€™sā€¦ better than (re)traumatising people, sure, but the contrast with how Melanie is doing her best (forcing herself to go through therapy and to go past her distrust, working on herself, deciding that she prefers to be dead rather than collaborating with a Fear-machine, putting efforts into going to tell Jon although we could hear that it was hard and theyā€™ve never been best friends in the first place) is quite astounding, and it was really not surprising that she was absolutely unimpressed.
(To Jonā€™s credit: that also means forcing himself to Not Know, probably. But still: if he feels like heā€™s currently doing ā€œhis bestā€, what does it say about his current mental state, except that itā€™sā€¦ bad all over?)
- For once, Iā€™m still not sure that I clearly understand the different meanings of the title! Hermanā€™s was pretty forward (feeling like he was stuck in the suburb & in his life, getting stuck for real in a Lonely dimension without issue) and Iā€™m guessing that itā€™s also a representation of Jon&co right now: stuck and unable to go anywhere, just condemned toā€¦ wait (is Jon waiting for the end of 2018? He said he was conscious that the year marked the Instituteā€™s 200th anniversary, in MAG127); although, at the same time, Melanie is proving that choices and options are still possible.
Right now, weā€™re indeed in a strange situation where it feels like, unless another new crisis suddenly explodes at their face (Maxwell Rayner not actually dead-dead? Jon had mentioned seeing people with the pendants of the cult, shortly after he woke up from his coma) (Vast ritual? We havenā€™t heard anything about it) (other Beholding folks coming to prepare their ritual?) (Hunters going after the Institute?)ā€¦ Martin is the only one currently able to move things forwards.
- Cheers: this episode marked the end of the penultimate quarter of the seasonā€¦ and of the series in general! ā€¦ Now, weā€™ll be entering the last quarter. It. Feels. Weird (usually, at this point, you would have a clear idea of the end line in sight and, uh, Iā€¦ haveā€¦ no ideaā€¦ what weā€™re heading towardsā€¦ and I am absolutely confident that, whatever happens, it will make sense and will have been introduced for a long while. But right now, itā€™s only ā€œsomething most likely awful comingā€ and just. Dread.)
Title for MAG151 was used by Peter, twice, so Iā€™m expecting the episode to be about Martin meeting his ā€œfriendā€ andā€¦ getting some answers/leads. Whoever that friend is ā€“ but given how the title can serve as a Vast pun and/or be a reference to a camera, I would say that Simon Fairchild (the Fairchilds collaborated with the Lukases on the Daedalus project, one of Jonā€™s first cases as a researcher at the Institute was about him, Jon has jinxed it by spitting that he didnā€™t want to meet Simon ever, and Peter said his friend was currently out of the country when Jon pointed out in MAG124 that Simon apparently likes to travelā€¦) and Mikaele Salesa (since Peter and him were at least acquaintances making bets together according to MAG066, and there isā€¦ that camera from Floydā€™s statementā€¦) are gaining a few points as likely suspects.
(Anil had mentioned that this episode could trend at number 1 on tumblr, too, and squints, if I had to guess at why an episode would be more likely to trend, it wouldā€¦ probably contain reveals (Martin meeting Peterā€™s friend would cover it indeed), but also ā€œJon & Martin meeting againā€ or ā€œPeter and Elias actually in the same room for the first timeā€, soā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦)

The Queen and the Butterfly II: The Witchā€™s Curse - Part 15
This story is a sequel to ā€œThe Queen and the Butterflyā€.
The story: Poppy offers Branch some cupcakes with butterflies in it which turns out to be mysterious. When the two Trolls eat them, they got transformed into butterflies themselves and realize that the cupcakes were actually cursed by an evil witch! Now they must try to find the witch who made those cupcakes and get a cure to get themselves back to normal, while encountering obstacles in the process along the way.
You already seen what had happened in Part 14. Now get ready for Part 15!:
Meanwhile, Poppy, Branch and Cloud Guy made their way through the village, attempting to search for Chrystelle. Cloud Guy made his way on top of a huge plant and settled the jar with Poppy and Branch in it down before examining the landscape of the beautiful meadow.
ā€œThe village looks more beautiful when we are small!ā€ Poppy enthused. ā€œLook at the trees and the pods sparkle in the sunshine!ā€
Tumblr media
ā€œBut Chrystelleā€™s cottage has to be around here somewhere!ā€ Branch complained. ā€œWhere is she? Cloud Guy, see anything?ā€
ā€œWell, let me see...ā€ Cloud Guy looked in each direction. He licked his finger and stuck it in the air to test the wind. He took a deep sniff. He got down on his hands and knees and listened to the ground for a long time. Finally, he stood up and smiled at Poppy and Branch.
ā€œNo idea! You said nobody knows where it is, right?ā€
Poppy grew worried-sick. ā€œI hope weā€™re not too late!ā€ she said. ā€œWe just need to find it quickly or weā€™ll never become Trolls again!ā€
ā€œDonā€™t worry!ā€ Branch reassured her, putting a butterfly wing to her shoulder. ā€œWeā€™ll try to get there and break this curse! But we need to keep going!ā€
He was right. Soon the trio started moving again as they went further deeper in the woods. When they got there, they stood there and stared at the foliage around them.
Tumblr media
Branch pointed toward a large bright opening of the forest. ā€œWell, that way looks friendly and inviting, but you just know itā€™s going to turn out to be horrible and terrible once you get there.ā€
Cloud Guy smiled and nodded. ā€œRight,ā€ he said. ā€œIt could easily be the way to CERTAIN DEATHā€¦deathā€¦deathā€¦death.ā€ He switched to his booming, dramatic voice and even made his own echo while saying this.
Branch and Poppy exchanged a look. Branch added sternly, ā€œOr at least imprisonment.ā€
ā€œSure,ā€ Cloud Guy agreed. ā€œCould be imprisonment. Definitely.ā€
ā€œFollowed by death,ā€ Branch said.
ā€œOr MAYBE,ā€ Poppy argued. ā€œit could turn out to be just as nice and safe as it looks!ā€
ā€œMaybe,ā€ Cloud Guy said skeptically.
ā€œDoubt it,ā€ Branch added with a scoff.
No more than a few minutes has passed when Cloud Guy held up a megaphone and shouted at the top of his lungs:
ā€œHEY, HAS ANYBODY SEEN A YOUNG WITCH WHO MAKES PASTRIES, CAKES, MUFFINS, COOKIES, PIES AND EVEN BUTTERFLY CUPCAKES?!ā€
Tumblr media
The sound of his shouting was loud. Really loud. In fact, he was so loud that Poppy and Branch covered their ears with their butterfly wings and winced at the uneven tone of his voice!
Branch frantically shushed Cloud Guy in order to make him stop yelling through the megaphone. ā€œShhhhhisssssh!!! Shhhhhhh!!! Keep it down a little! The rest of the world will hear us for eternity!ā€
ā€œCome on, Branch,ā€ said Cloud Guy. ā€œHow bad could it be?ā€
Before Branch can do anything about this, a Troll named Aspen Heitz came running frantically around, crying out ā€œMy Lord! Who has disturbed my peaceful skating routine?!ā€
Tumblr media
Thatā€™s when Cloud Guy immediately realized his mistake. ā€œWhoops!ā€ he said. ā€œSorry! I didnā€™t mean to spread the word to ya!ā€
When Aspen realized that it was Cloud Guy talking through the megaphone, he called out to him ā€œYo, Cloud Guy! How itā€™s going?! Whyā€™d ya speaking too loud on that megaphone?!ā€
ā€œWell, Iā€™m here to find a witch,ā€ Cloud Guy began. ā€œA young one who lies far ahead from Troll Town! Have you seen her?ā€
Word for the whereabouts of Chrystelle struck Aspen like a lightning bolt. Stunned by this explanation, he hopped on his skitterboard and casually rode off!
Tumblr media
ā€œThatā€™s just a myth!ā€ he yelled as he started moving away from Cloud Guy. ā€œA witch like that has never existed! Gotta move!ā€
ā€œHey, wait! Aspen!ā€ Cloud Guy called out. ā€œYou need to tell me where she is!! Just come back here and sign my megaphone!ā€
But as he pointed at his megaphone to Aspen, the Troll had already disappeared! It seems like heā€™d been expressing disbelief since Chrystelle was nowhere to be found in the entire town. Poppy and Branch gave dissatisfied glares at Cloud Guy for disturbing the peace and quiet for the Trolls.
Tumblr media
Cloud Guy chuckled sheepishly at them. ā€œThatā€™s just great, isnā€™t it?ā€
Moments later, Cloud Guy carried Poppy and Branch in the jar down a meadow. He plucked a red flower from the ground and waved it in front of them.
Tumblr media
ā€œWhy are you picking a flower for us?ā€ asked Branch.
ā€œSo that in case you want to sniff at it, you might want to rest your little fluttering wings from all that hovering with this,ā€ Cloud Guy explained. ā€œI think it also contains pollen for you to eat!ā€
ā€œExcuse me?ā€ Branch said. ā€œWe donā€™t drink pollen at all!ā€
ā€œBut youā€™re butterflies and they eat pollen, right?ā€ Cloud Guy corrected him. Branch had to groan over the fact that most butterflies eat pollen while Trolls usually donā€™t, which he thinks itā€™s a little disgusting when they eat it. But Poppy wished she really wanted to take a mouthful of flower pollen for herself but Branch was against this idea for now.
Later, Cloud Guy continued trudging through the woods with the jar holding Poppy and Branch inside as they kept going. It didnā€™t take long until Branch looked up at the sky. It was going sunset.
Tumblr media
He looked down to Cloud Guy and asked him ā€œAre we there yet? Itā€™s less than a few hours already?ā€
ā€œWeā€™ll get there when we get there!ā€ he said. ā€œDonā€™t worry, Branch. It might not be as difficult as it seems.ā€
Despite his clear explanations that they are really trying to find the witch they were looking for, the search is turning out to be difficult, just as Branch and Poppy would predict. Where is Chrystelle? And why did she isolated herself away from Troll Town?
Poppy, Branch and Cloud Guy tried everything they can to see an old cottage belonging to Chrystelle in the distance but to no avail. The search went in vain as soon as they tried searching on some cliffs. On one cliff, Cloud Guy gazed at the far-off landscape of the Troll universe until his stomach grumbled and he starts straining. Grrrrrrggh!! Ngggggh!!!
ā€œOh no,ā€ Branch moaned, realizing things have took the wrong turn this time. ā€œWhat?ā€
Tumblr media
ā€œCloud Guy, whatā€™s the matter?ā€ asked Poppy. ā€œWhy did you stop?ā€
ā€œI think I had to take the washroom,ā€ he admitted. ā€œCanā€™t we just stop for a while?ā€
ā€œFOR REAL?!ā€ Branch shouted, frustrated that Cloud Guy is going to screw up once more. ā€œWeā€™re halfway there and you stopped here just to take a pee?!ā€
ā€œIā€™m sorry, Branch,ā€ said Cloud Guy gently. ā€œBut my carbon dioxide oxygen canā€™t handle much during this search so we need to rest first.ā€
ā€œOkay, so where should we rest on?ā€ Poppy asked. ā€œA flower?ā€
ā€œThat has to be one of the good spots,ā€ Branch replied with a grin, hoping that Cloud Guy would give them his flower he found in the meadow earlier.
But instead, Cloud Guy found a dead unsteady tree nearby and walked straight into it! Then he placed the jar on one of its loose dangling branches and asked ā€œWhy donā€™t you just take a rest in this tree until I get back from the washroom for a minute?ā€
Tumblr media
ā€œWHAT?!ā€ Branch yelled. ā€œNo, no! Please, Cloud Guy, no! This is just a bad idea! That tree looks not so fine and it would kill both of us down the cliff!! Donā€™t do this! Use the flower with pollen instead!ā€
ā€œDonā€™t worry,ā€ Cloud Guy told him calmly. ā€œItā€™ll be fine!ā€
ā€œNo! Itā€™s not fine!ā€ Branch shouted, glaring at him. ā€œJust give us your flower! Weā€™re so hungry for pollen right now!ā€
ā€œOh, okay,ā€ Cloud Guy said, understanding his statement. Then he reached for the flower in his sleeve. ā€œOkay, just give me a second-ā€
Tumblr media
PFFFTTT!!!
Poppy and Branch exchanged a disgusted look as they heard a stench of brown icky air coming from Cloud Guyā€™s bottom. He looked at them, embarrassed. ā€œUh-oh. There goes my dim-dong! Gotta run!ā€
Tumblr media
And just like that, he took off running away from the cliff, leaving the jar holding Poppy and Branch inside suspended on the loose branch.
Branch looks stressed up when he saw the cloud disappearing away from them. He yelled ā€œWAIT!!! This tree isnā€™t safe for us to rest on! Get back here, you... You sick! Revolting, low some little...ā€
But it was too late. Cloud Guy had already been gone! Not again!
He had left them behind once again since Cooper did this the other day! Itā€™s a shame that Branch and Poppy would have let the cloud open the jar so they can raise their voices.
Tumblr media
Poppy looked at Branch, feeling utterly upset at him. ā€œThis plan stinks,ā€ she retorted. ā€œI donā€™t know when we will find that ā€œChrystelle witchā€ right now unless Cloud Guy wouldā€™ve not been so careless in the first place!ā€
It was true. Cloud Guy would have also give them the flower he found in the Troll Village meadows but everything had came too far since this happened. As soon as Branch let out a disappointed sigh, the tree started to sway from the wind and the jar tilted a little.
Poppy and Branch stared down from the branch and could see that they were above hundred-feet high on the cliff! They shuddered, hoping they would not fall at all as Branch said ā€œAt least it canā€™t get much worse than this...ā€
But it did.
Tumblr media
CRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKK!!!
Startled by that strange sound around them, Poppy and Branch froze in terror.
Poppy gasped. ā€œWhatā€™s that noise?!ā€ ā€œI donā€™t know!ā€ Branch told her.
CRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKK!!!
The sound was actually coming from the branch they were on! Upon inspecting it closer, Poppy and Branch could see a crack on the end of it! It means that they are truly going to fall any minute!
Poppy and Branch began to panic as they tried to look for a way to open the jar. But Cloud Guy wasnā€™t there for them right now and they were hoping that he might come back from his toilet break to help save them.
Tumblr media
CRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKK!!!
Suddenly, the sound of the creaking branch grew louder as another crack vertically slithered through the wood, where it stopped right in front of the jar! Once it got there, it formed another horizontal crack right near it!
CRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAKKKK!!! SNAP!!!
Tumblr media
Just as Branch had been predicting about this tree, the branch barely snapped in half and began tilting, holding the jar with Poppy and Branch inside! They cowered as the branch continued creaking, this time very loudly, and tilting towards the abyss below.
Tumblr media
Shivering with fright, Branch and Poppy watched in horror as it tilted almost halfway just before it will snap off!
ā€œBrace yourself!!!ā€ Branch screamed.
And then...
Tumblr media
SNNNAAAAPP!!!
Instantly, the branch snapped free and it was sent falling down into the abyss, sending the jar flying off from it and into the air! Poppy and Branch were flung about inside, bouncing around the glass and screaming as the jar fell away from the branch!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Branch smacked to the lid and tried to open it, but the jar rolled around and around that he canā€™t reach for it! He screamed along with Poppy as the jar and the branch made their way deeper and deeper into the abyss below!
Tumblr media
In moments, they would truly meet their end together...
Until...
Tumblr media
SCRRRRRREEEEEEEE!!!
A loud screech echoed around the abyss. Poppy and Branch frantically looked around and saw a giant blur of black and green coming towards them!
ā€œOh no!ā€ Poppy screamed in horror. ā€œLook out!ā€
Tumblr media
SCRRRRRREEEEEEEE!!!
The blur went nearer, revealing a giant black bird with green streaks in its feathers! This was the most scariest bird Branch had ever met in his childhood a long time ago and now, it was heading straight for the jar! Branch and Poppy screamed together as the scary creature swooped down at them and...
Tumblr media
SWOOP!!! SCREEEEEEEEEE!!!!
...grabbed the jar with its talons and screeched! Then it flew away from the abyss, carrying the jar with Poppy and Branch inside and leaving the broken branch fall down in the abyss below.
Tumblr media
The last thing Poppy and Branch could hear was Cloud Guyā€™s voice calling out from above ā€œHey, guys! Iā€™m back from the washroom! Letā€™s get goin...uh, guys?! Poppy?! Branch?! Hey, where are you?! I thought you hated resting in this tree?ā€

5+ headcanon for an AU: olympic ice dancing AU for NohKate
me, quietly: ohhhhh nooooooooooooo
this au would be based, almost entirely, on the filmsĀ ā€œThe Cutting Edgeā€ and Iā€™m so sorry.
1.) So Kate was a super amazing figure skater who had an injury that took her out of singles figure skating but her coach Natasha suggested ice dancing (Iā€™m pretty sure nobody goes from figure skating to ice dancing but shhhhhhh)
2.) unfortunately, Kate has a Reputation as being an exacting, demanding skater that nobody wants to work with
3.) enter Noh! Noh is famous as a roller...rink...dancer? Iā€™m almost certain this is a real thing. Only heā€™s the Bad Boy of rollerskating and is no longer allowed at league events, so to the ice he goes.Ā
4.) there are lots of hijinks and butting heads and arguments about the music oh my GOD they fight so much about the music until Nick Fury and Peggy Carter, ice dancing LEGENDS and their coaches, flat-out tell them that if they canā€™t get their shit togetherĀ then THEY will be picking Kate and Nohā€™s music and it will absolutely be ā€œOops I did it againā€. They wind up dancing to Abba, Queen, the Killers, and the Supremes. (those are their best routines, anyway)Ā
5.) They realize they donā€™t hate one another over pizza. In years to come, pizza will become their go-to bonding food. They share their stories--Noh was homeless for a while, before finding a family in the roller skating community, Kate was always trying to be The Best to get attention from her parents, both of them found families in the sport of their choice
6.) Noh actually really loves how controlling Kate is. Itā€™s nice to know that someone knows what the hell is going on. With Kate, thereā€™s no chance that the wrong music will play (this happened to Noh once) or that theyā€™ll be late (Noh has done this before) or that youā€™ll tell the committee in charge of your sport to go fuck themselves (guess what Nohā€™s done). Conversely, Noh helps Kate lighten up in other areas of her life (like going to Derek Bishopā€™s offices and screaming ā€œFUCK YOUā€ at him and then getting daydrunk and doing karaoke after)
7.) Their first time at the Olympics is full of anĀ ā€œare they arenā€™t theyā€ vibe with former figure skating champions Loki Laufeyson and Cassie Lang commenting on both Noh and Kateā€™s costumes and choreography as well as their potential relationship status
8.) the next time they go to the Olympics theyā€™re definitely marriedĀ
