Tagged by @lucymonster - thank you!
1. The last book I read
I'm rereading The Murderbot Diaries (again...), so I just finished Book 3 and am now reading Book 4.
2. A book I recommend
I mean...I always love when people try out the Cosmere, or I've been recommending Gideon the Ninth to people lately.
3. A book I couldn't put down
I started the Murderbot Diaries because @round-hatches-are-terrifying kept posting about it and I was going on a trip with a long flight and needed something to read. So I started the first book...and more or less read all seven books nonstop over the next week. Like, I had to take breaks because I was on the trip visiting family and we did things all day, but pretty much every spare moment I was reading...and then I just restarted it immediately. Twice. So, uh. That one.
4. A book I've read twice (or more)
I reread books a lot. I've read most of the Cosmere series twice, and I'm working on my third read-through of the Stormlight Archive. I've read the Locked Tomb books twice. I've read the Discworld books over and over again too. I mean, when I really like a series, rereading feels like I get to hang out with the characters more, so I reread a LOT.
5. A book on my TBR
I have GOT to read White Sands. It's the only Cosmere book that eludes me. I need to get my butt to a library and check it out because I tried reading it on my phone and it was terrible.
6. A book I've put down
I've had some bad luck in the past with starting a book on a trip and then not finishing it and then a lot of time passes and I just never go back. I did that with Dune, I know. And a book with clockwork birds in the title I think? My brother really wanted me to read that, but I just fell out of the habit and it felt hard to go back. I did that with Life of Pi too.
7. A book on my wish list
Like to buy? I'm not sure what differentiates TBR and wish list. Oh! I guess the Murderbot short stories? I don't know how to get them ha ha. And I really look forward to when Stormlight 5 and Alecto the Ninth come out.
8. A favorite book from childhood
The Dark is Rising series. A book I loved so much that I am too afraid to go back because what if it is terribe.
9. A book you would give to a friend
I loaned Tress of the Emerald Sea to a friend recently! Honestly, I'd like to loan out the Secret Project Sanderson books since they're an easier in to the Cosmere.
10. A book of poetry or lyrics that you own
I was a classics major, so I have a lot of Greek & Latin poetry on my shelves. Other than that, I've never been into reading poetry, to be honest.
11. A nonfiction book that you own
More classics books, I'm afraid. Like I have histories and books of scholarships and textbooks and all of that.
12. What are you currently reading
The Murderbot Diaries. Again. 😅 Exit Strategy, probably my favorite!
13. What are you planning on reading next
T-The rest of the Murderbot Diaries.... And then soon Stormlight 5 will be out! And one of these days I'm going to get the library and try to get White Sand...
Tagging @round-hatches-are-terrifying and @interstellar-interloper my mbd buds. I'd be curious to hear from @cosmereplay and @imtheseventh and @zibus if you folks are interested too! @spikeface if you want!

BONESY BONESY HIII BONESY
remembwr when i said this
i am home now!!!! here is a pic of both shelves
its a little messy n not well lit.. shelves are a little disorganized too especially the bottom two but its fiine ! lucky star shelf i showed you before is third down on the left. im gonna take better pictures to post here and on mfc once my sega power figure comes in and i move my toga and midari sections around
basic explanation, starting from the top on the left shelf: -combination toga and midari section, with my full ohshc manga set in the back -jiro section, with all my mha manga -lucky star section <333 -misc section, largely demon slayer, w assorted manga -another misc section, kinda where i stuck my least favorite figures LMAO im sorry guys right shelf: -mostly one piece section, partially disgaea section -yamato shrine plus kakegurui section runoff -mainly my edward shrine plus funkos lined up along my tokyo ghoul + tg:re manga sets, but my NSO section is slowly growing. plus miku -hxh section! mostly meruem, komugi, and neferpitou- theyre my 3 favs. couple misc figures next to them too -red box on the right of the lowest shelf is where i stash all my weed LMFAO isnt it a genius spot.. nobody would ever look or suspect. im soo smart.. anyway rest of that is misc manga and its kinda cluttered just pretend you dont see that
speaking of midari and toga sections! here are closeups of both !
midari section is currently cramped and messy.. usually has kakegurui manga behind it (hence the empty spot) but hunter is borrowing the first few volumes rn so it looks sad and empty :( need to move the midari section to another shelf because it and the toga section next to it are getting too large to coexist on the same shelf anymore they need more room. and speaking of toga section
wonderful angel.. also getting crowded mostly because banpresto always makes giant ass bases which take up lots of space on shelves </3 take a hint from pop up parade bp your base game SUCKS.
also just now realizing how BADLY tumblr annihilates quality... pls click on the pictures nd zoom in i promiseee they are better quality than that pls..
here is my jiro section !
gets a whole shelf all to herself (except for the dabi figure.. who is my bookend). im on a quest to get every single (non-gk) figure of jiro EVER made and so far i am missing seven out of sixteen :( most of the rest are trading figures and funkos except for the bellfine scale figure which is hella expensive.. like $100+.. but she will be mine eventually. here are the ones im missing
top 3 are trading figures, middle is still on preorder i think so it cant be mine yet , jst need to track down the other two somewhere. on the bottom are two of the funkos which are easy to buy but i dont LIKE having funkos and i dont WANT them but because its jiro i have to buy them anyway :/ im just putting it off. i almost ordered the first one the other day but decided to wait for the price to go down a bit. middle one is a gamestop exclusive thats bundled with a t shirt and i could easily buy it rn at, yk, gamestop, but i dont want the t shirt so i gotta buy th funko individually off ebay. last pic on the bottom is the bellfine scale, found it for $90 on a site recently when it usually goes for $120/$130+ so hopefully it'll be mine soon!1 anywayy sorry 4 yapping.. just love jiro will collect all her figures 4ever. wish i could do that for toga but she has too many :( 62 compared to jiro's 16 :( anywayyy more shelfies
the midari section was formerly just the kakegurui section but i had to boot these 3 figures out cause they wouldnt fit:
mary nendoroid (which i got for a STEAL at $28 unopened, they usually go for like $70 or more), plus mary and yumeko pop up parades (they are holding hands). and next to them:
yamato section! my beautiful prince yamato! the angle of this one sucks.. wtv. the big figure between the manga is the most expensive figure i've bought so far at $45, not counting the kangel L pop up parade figure i preordered for like $64 (doesnt count cause i dont have it yet). and SPEAKING OF KANGEL...!
kangel pop up parade!!! i got her yesterday!!! and the goodsmile bonus p-chan (the sad kitty)! put her in front of my nso manga + switch game, im so so happy i got her :3 and i'll be even happier when i get the kangel L figure, which is wayy bigger and imo prettier
anywayy hope you liked my yappings bonesy if you see them n read them.. ^_^ and also anyone else who saw this on their dash and checked it out,, sorry for clogging your dash :(
figures are my passion my love my light my one true joy.. would love to answer any questions u have about them ever. need to take more closeup pictures also bc its so hard to see details in that shitty ass full shelf pic i took.. will take better pictures another time <3 shldve taken a closeup of my hxh section its so good,, or my edward section,, oh well

What’s up readers?! How about a little show and tell? Answer these 13 questions, tag 13 lucky readers and if you’re feeling extra bookish add a shelfie! Let’s Go!
Thank you thank you to @sky-kenobye for the tag and I'm terribly sorry for taking so long to do this
1) The Last book I read:
Last book I finished is Dune Messiah
2) A book I recommend:
Can I recommend Dune when I've not read all of them? Because that. Also The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. Go read them now. They changed my world.
(Also, and extra I'm never sure if I recommend or not: Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart, it was definitely a read, it took me a while to recover from it)
3) A book that I couldn’t put down:
This is most of my books tbh, but let's say The Magus by John Fowles, I Really really needed to know what was going on there. (Also The locked Tomb but I can't write that as an answer to everything)
4) A book I’ve read twice (or more):
I haven't read something more than once in a really long time, so probably books I read when I was a teen. I know I've read Memorias de Idhún by Laura Gallego or Rubinrot by Kerstin Gier at least three times each. (I am also planning on re reading The Locked Tomb as soon as they announce Alecto, I am not normal about these books)
5) A book on my TBR:
A LOT, I want to read the Thrawn books and the Revenge of the Sith novelization. I gave up a bit on finding the Thrawn books and bought the comic for the first one but I still want the books dammit! Also the rest of the Dune books.
In my physical TBR pile in my room I have The Atlas Six and Long Way Round. (The pile is finally a bit smaller after buying like 7 books in Scotland back in april and then not reading them and buying more)
6) A book I’ve put down:
If I'm honest I hardly put down books and if I do it's because they are so plain I just forget about them instantly. Let's say The husky and his white cat shizun because I have forgotten to take it off my currently reading in goodreads.
7) A book on my wish list:
Again, the Revenge of the Sith novelization and, anything in my tbr? Also the Taschen COMPLETE fashion history.
8) A favorite book from childhood:
This has to be Las Crónicas de la Torre by Laura Gallego. Really shaped my taste as a person. Anything from that author really. I also loved El pirata Garrapata as a child.
9) A book you would give to a friend:
THE LOCKED TO- jk. I don't know really. I'm a person that loves sharing what I like so I lend my friends a lot of books. Let's go with some of my books that my friends currently have: This is how you lose the time war by Amal El-Mohtar and Alex Gladstone, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (my friend has had this for like 4 years now lmao) and The Collector by John Fowles
10) A book of poetry or lyrics that you own:
I am not a poetry enjoyer so I don't consciously own any poetry books, but I probably have some around from when I needed them for High School? By Spanish authors of course.
11) A nonfiction book you own:
I do not really read nonfiction, we can put here the illustration books I own, Long Way Round, and The girl with the seven names by Hyeonseo Lee (a woman writing about her experiences in North Korea and running away from there)
12) What are you currently reading:
I am finishing Children of Dune and She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan (yes, two at the same time because I only had like 50 pages left of Dune when I left on a trip and I didn't have space for two books and would have finished Dune in the first plane ride leaving me with nothing to read the rest of the trip. No, I couldn't buy God emperor of dune in scotland and leave children of dune with my sister I don't know what you are talking about)
13) What are you planning on reading next?
God Emperor of Dune, of course, and He Who Drowned the World (and The Atlas Six that has been in my room for months now)
I am honestly so late for this that I don't know who has done it already so I'm just gonna tag people and if you've done it I'm sorry, ignore this and send me the link heh
@heretolurkandnothingmore @tomicaleto @grapenehifics @heniareth @tideswept @somethingsteff
#about me#i guess#i would have aswered like 10 books in each category but i tried to keep to the rules#unsuccessfully

YALC is here, so AWAKE IN THE WORLD author, Jason Gurley, it’s time to EXPRESS YOURSHELF!
Jason Gurley is the author of debut YA novel, Awake in the World, a love story about fate, privilege and the irresistible attraction of opposites. Available to buy direct from the Usborne stand at YALC, Awake in the World is a perfect summer read that fans of Jennifer Niven and Nicola Yoon will love. Meet US author Jason Gurley as he answers our Shelfie Seven questions!
1. You’re about to embark on a mission to Mars, but can only take one book. What do you pack? There’s no way I’m ever going to have to really answer this question, so instead, here are my three contenders: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It’s a little bit of everything: coming-of-age novel, romance, drama. Adichie draws the most finely-tuned characters; they never feel anything short of real, so everything they face plucks the truest of strings. Contact by Carl Sagan. This is such a deeply personal novel to me, and one whose ideas about science and faith heavily influenced Vanessa in Awake in the World. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s just the right blend of creepy and sad, of bleak and haunted. Ishiguro is one of my all-time favorites. If I ever tired of the story, I’d read just to watch him move words around in his quiet, dazzling way.
2. You can travel back in time and give 16-year-old you a book you’ve read recently. What do you choose? Probably Alexander Chee’s How to Write an Autobiographical Novel, or Colum McCann’s Letters to a Young Writer. Sixteen-year-old me was just beginning to seriously consider a future in writing stories, and was far too heavily influenced by the glamorous portrayals of writers in the movies and elsewhere. These two books do a marvellous job of stripping away the illusion to present the reality, and emphasize the satisfaction of hard work over the elusiveness of literary stardom (which young me thought about a lot). As McCann says: it’s all about putting the arse in the chair.
3. Which great literary classic is still on your to-be-read pile? The Count of Monte Cristo. Don Quixote. A Tale of Two Cities. So many. Lately I’m working my way through some mid-20th century books - everything from Rona Jaffe and Mary McCarthy to Ralph Ellison and James Baldwin.
4. Awake in the World is going to be made into a film. Who’s your dream director? Who gets cast as Zach and Vanessa? I think Lyrica Okano would make an excellent Vanessa, full of confidence and wonder. And Lucas Hedges would bring just the right amount of pathos and determination to Zach. As for directors, I’d love to see someone like Destin Daniel Cretton tackle this material. I’m a big fan of his film Short Term 12. He’s an artist who understands the inner lives of young people, I think.
(Lyrika Okano, Jason Gurley’s choice for Vanessa in Awake in the World movie.
5. Which song provides the perfect soundtrack to Awake in the World?
There are so many possible answers to this question. I tend to write while listening to music, so everything from film scores to ‘80s songs to more current music gets in there and worms around. But I’ll go with a little track that Nancy Wilson wrote for the film Vanilla Sky. It’s called “Elevator Beat”: it’s short, wistful, hopeful, a little tragic, and utterly gorgeous. The perfect song to listen to on repeat about a thousand times while writing about these characters.
LISTEN HERE: https://youtu.be/OfV-YzMfvns
6. What’s your favourite relationship - romantic, BFFs, sworn enemies, family - in a book? Oh, Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire, from Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife, definitely comes to mind. The whole love-that-transcends time thing is hard to do well, and this book succeeds because the characters feel so textured and real. I also love the working relationship between cousins Joe Kavalier and Sammy Clay in Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. From that first scene where they’re forced to bunk in the same bed to the eventual tangles of their career and loves, they’re utterly fascinating.
7. You’re holding a literary dinner party. Name five guests - real or fictional - on your invite list. Ann Druyan, for all her stories of working on the Voyager project and living a life of healthy skepticism and wonder. Margaret Atwood, to learn about what makes a successful, contented, productive, exemplary writing life. Ta-Nehisi Coates, to learn how someone straddles the serious (his nonfiction work) and the comic (his Marvel work) so expertly. Christopher Hitchens, because I imagine no one is a better and more irascible conversationalist. Jesmyn Ward, who I think is the best writer of the last twenty years or more.
Awake in the World is out now and a perfect summer romance. Available this weekend from the Usborne stand at YALC. Come and say Hi!

I am long overdue for a reread of this book, so this is less of a review (which I will hopefully come up with soon) and more of me gushing about the rep in this book. So maybe consider this a Riley Redgate appreciation post. We’ve got a pansexual main character, an aroace and autistic main character, an ethnically diverse cast, all making up what is also just a really fantastic novel. (Plus who doesn’t love a good seven deadly sins inspired story?) I first read this book probably four or five years ago, and it was the very first time i saw a pan, aroace, or autistic character in novel, much less all of that rep in one place, or where the individual identities are not the sole focus of the story. And to top it all off, the representation is done WELL and it’s done SEEMLESSLY. These characters aren’t included as tokens, their identities are important to who they are and to their role in the story.

A bit late, but my February wrap up is here! Solitaire really messed me up, and after that, and with a war going on, I didn’t feel like reading anything for a week. I’m slowly triyng to find my balance again. Hopefully, better times are ahead of us. Have a safe March xx
Here’s what I read:
The Seven Husbands od Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkind Reid
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland + Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

Hi my loves✨ It’s finally Friday!
•
Yesterday I finished The Wizard Heir and absolutely loved it. I think I had like 150 pages left and just devoured it in two and a half hours! It was such a good read.

Finished my first series of the year! (4 out of 35)
First series I read this year was actually a reread for me - The Seven Realms by Cinda Williams Chima. Absolutely one of my favorite YA series. When the series came out, I was in the first semester of my senior year in high school, and now, it’s been almost ten years since I graduated. I still enjoy TSR as much as I did when I originally read it.
Here’s a link to my original review. Everything still stands about the books. (I did want to rewrite the review in a more mature voice, but *shrugs*.) This is such a wonderful and underrated series. Admittedly, it does start off a bit slow, but once it gets going, ooh buddy, you’re in for a wild ride.
HIGHLY recommend. Two thumbs up. 10/10. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

I was so excited to add this to my Redgate collection - I absolutely adored her other titles. 'Seven Ways We Lie' uses the themes of the seven deadly sins for each of the main cast... only this one felt a bit scattered and took me a long time to get into. Still some great writing. Review to come soon...
But the cover is on pointe!

Miniature book haul :)
I've been looking for Sophie Kinsella's Surprise Me for a while now after the girls in my work read it in their book club (I would join it, but I'm always so tired after the work day that I just want to go home and sleep). I finally found it in W H Smiths!
Makes for a happy Sunday!

Shelfie Seven: Kathryn Evans, author of BEAUTY SLEEP and MORE OF ME
It’s three weeks until the launch of Kathryn Evans’ second YA novel BEAUTY SLEEP, in which 16 year old Laura is plunged into a futuristic world after 40 years asleep (think Black Mirror meets Malory Towers). We asked rainbow-haired author extraordinaire Kathryn to EXPRESS HERSHELF by answering our SHELFIE SEVEN QUESTIONS:
#1: Who’s your weirdest literary crush? It’s Edward from Thomas the Tank Engine. You did say weirdest…
#2: If Beauty Sleep was made into a film, who’d be your dream director? Who gets to be Laura? Obviously the director would have to be Charlie Brooker! I absolutely love the Black Mirror series, that sideways take on modern issues is exactly what I try and do in my books. As for actors, if I could have anybody – Amandla Stenberg has the exact mix of vulnerability and strength that I see in Laura.
#3: Where’s your favourite place to write? The place I get most done, believe it or not, is my hairdressers! It takes a long time to colour my hair so I take my laptop – with all those people watching me I daren’t faff about on facebook – plus, they bring me a constant supply of tea!
#4: You’ve been invited to the Hogwarts’ Yule Ball: what are you wearing? Oh wow! Something ice-blue with a huge skirt and silvery ivy leaves trailing from the shoulder, across the bodice and over the skirt, pumps for dancing, and my hair would be piled up and ice-blue too with glitter and a tiny silver top hat…and maybe some incy little fairy lights… I’ve thought about this way too much haven’t I? Waaaaaay too much.
#5: Which fictional character do you most closely identify with? Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Poor old Tess Durbeyfield – my life is nothing like hers but she was such a trier, I love that about her. And then there are the swishy skirts…
#6: You’re booking a holiday to a literary location, real or fantastical. Where do you go? Easy. The Weasleys’ kitchen. A home from home.
#7: You can travel back in time and give 16-year-old-you a book you’ve read recently; what do choose? What a brilliant question! I’m tempted to give her my first book More of Me because she’d be so so happy to know we finally got published but actually, I’m going to give her I am Malala, because I just think everyone should read it.
Don’t miss BEAUTY SLEEP, out 4th April.

HERE YOU GO WITH SHELFIE!!!
I have all books by Sudha Murthy, just not on display here
Yes there's an entire section devoted to Hindi literature.
At one point of time i had the entire Amar Chitra Katha collection but I have most of it to my seven year old cousin sister this year.
Obviously this is not everything I have read cause I have also read many books by borrowing. Lanka's Princess and POTOT have been loaned to people.
