i do sometimes forget most white americans cant necessarily tell what version of white someone is. and to be very clear this is not me at all criticising - homogenous whiteness is part of american culture and that has an impact on how european features are percieved, it makes total sense they have a different perspective. But like personally i can look at most white people and take a pretty good guess what region of europe their familys from, and so can most other europeans. I remember studying in america and finding out the girl i was sat with was irish american and saying 'oh i could tell. you look irish' and her being shocked, saying she was surprised i could tell. like girl you are the most sterotypically irish looking person i've ever seen. There are always exceptions obviously, but as a general rule you can at least take a good guess.

I think maybe this why some movies seem so badly cast to me sometimes. They'll be casting for a movie about ancient greece or something and it'd be fine if one or two actors looked more western or northern european... but all of them? I just cant concentrate. It takes me tf out. I'll be sitting there like "that is an anglo saxon i can tell just by looking at him". I remember being so not okay with logan lerman getting cast as percy jackson when i was a kid, because the book described him as mediterranean. And i felt gaslit because everyone else was calling him the perfect percy, when he looked so british/irish to me. Like e.g. I can tell Emma D'Arcys heritage is likely scandinavian, just from looking at them. They have a mix of features you can pinpoint on a map somehow. Its just something I know immediately upon looking at them without having to even think about it.

Maybe this is why some americans seem confused by where 'tall, dark, and handsome' comes from, and the concept of dark features in general. "Olive-skinned" as well. Like these terms dont really work very well with a culture that enforces homogenous whiteness. My cultural experience with the term "olive skinned" has always been that its used as a way of referencing the green undertone (i.e. has nothing to do with the depth of colour) usually seen in the countries around the Mediterranean. It suggests that that person's skin tans easily, but it doesnt necessarily mean it IS tan. It can go very pale without sunlight, but even when its pale its yellow/green tinted. But seriously, where does that term fit in when it comes to homogenous whiteness? It just doesnt really, it wasnt made for that.

All i can think is Europeans dont really have a concept of overarching whiteness amongst ourselves the way white americans do (please dont think this is me saying we dont benefit from whiteness, we do). Im not saying this is better or worse than the american concept either btw, Im really not making any kind of moral or political statement here. I just think its kinda fascinating how much culture affects our ability to categorise certain traits. Our perception of stuff like this depends sooo heavily on culture/how we're exposed to it, and I think maybe this is something we need to keep in mind when we're having cross-continental conversations, instead of assuming our way is the only way to percieve something and the other person is stupid for seeing something different than what we see.

so it is Victorian Rural New England and Morpheus was just struck with what the doctors,believe to be TB. They tell his family that what he needs is fresh air and peace and quit, and to send him to a small hunting town in Colorado. It won't cure him, but it's been known to ease the effects of TB and make it livable.

Morpheus goes, but his mother is convinced that it's not actually TB, but a vampire feeding off of Morpheus, and insists he takes a thing of garlic flowers with him for protection. He does, but gets rid of them on the train. His parents are eastern European immigrants, and while his father just wants the family to blend in with American WASP society, his mother keeps their orthodox and traditional roots.

When Dream gets to Colorado, things don't look better, and his doctor even says Dream needs a blood transfusion.

The treatment it's done at is a Catholic hospital (his mother would have a fit if she knew) and Dream actually starts feeling better. Many of his symptoms are going away and There's even some colour back in his cheeks. After recovering, he is sent to a hunting lodge where many of the residents are also eastern Europeans. So many of them follow the same customs as his mother for protection.

Dream on the other hand feels so good that he starts taking day trips to Denver where he meets high society folks, and Hob.

Hob and Dream are "of the same sort" and Hob begins to spoil Dream. He takes Dream to dinners and shows. Dream, who grew up with nothing but stories of wealth and luxery, is enammered by this man who gives it to him freely. Most people know theyre confirmed batchalors together.

As it turns out, Hob is from a city not too far away from Dream's farm. And then Hob says something that doesn't click with Dream. Hob said he moved there when it was still new. That wasnt possible sense the town was founded befor Hob's parents could have been born. The town had been there before the revolution.

Slowly, Dream starts to notice things that also seem off.

Apparently, Hob can tell Dream's getting too close to the truth because one night when Dream and him are leaving the theater, Hob pulls him down an alleyway. Dream tries,to fight and thinks Hob is going to drain him of his blood and leave him to die.

While Hob does drink from Dream, Dream feels less like it's to feed, and more like it's an act of lust from Hob. Hell, Hob has Dream pressed against the wall and has Dream's legs lifted up and around hob's hips while holding Dreams wrists down. It's a pretty sexy position to have your meal in.

Hob admits that he saw Dream one night while he was hunting and couldn't resist him. Dream never had TB just Hob drinking from him.

Dream is really only half listening because his lover has him like this, when before they could barely give each other a kiss.

Hob notices and explains the long term goal Hob had. He wanted to make Dream a vampire so he could forever have Dream's beautiful body. Dream gasps that he wants to do what ever Hob has for him. That he wants Hob to make him what ever he is. The transformation is orgasmic. When its over, Dream is looking up at his lover with a new thirst for blood.

I love the whole backstory you’ve got here, it feels like a real setup for a historical novel. I also love the inherent sexuality of turning into a vampire. It’s really fucking hot. Yes he’s technically taking something from Dream by feeding from him, but he barely even feels the pain or loss of blood. He’s just whining softly and grinding his cock in against Hob’s hip. But he doesn’t, not quite. He makes sure that instead, Morpheus drinks from him in return. No, i don't. The problem is, is that other "big" artists in Europe don't hold a candle to the outreach SPanish/english/Korean speaking artists have around the world. so when they meet with those artists it'll be harder for THOSE big European artists to make them connections with other artists on other continents. you know what i mean? like Meg the stallion has met Kpop stars, American artists meet with SPanish artists. notice how Europe is never in that link up? because their numbers and fan base simply don't match up AT ALL.

a while back, maybe the start of 2020 or late 2019

first we had one of their mods incorrectly accusing one of our mods with racism. he pulled it out of her saying she looked forward to fighting the british in valhalla. given she's a poc and there really isnt any race that hasnt been affected by the british empire, even if it wasnt a joke she still would be in the right. we later found out he did this just because he didnt like her. he got her put under pressure in ACT on a false accusation so she pulled herself from something bringing her stress and blocked him from our (AssWeed) server. she has moved on, a few ACT users havent.

now the other two we had an issue with. one would not listen to facts and continuously dismissed transphobic jokes cyberpunk's team were doing saying "thats just how it is in eastern europe." if a triple A company is marketing a game to the world it should consider the world, not just its location. you would think a game set in the future would be more progressive. she was banned from our server for saying transphobic remarks herself.

the last girl we had an issue with kept trying to act all buddy buddy about it while the whole time backing up the transphobe saying "thats just our nation's sense of humor, you americans are so sensitive!" despite there being other european users that were agreeing with us. she also belittled the BLM movement and showed her true colors of being racist. our server does not tolerate this behavior so she was also banned.

the most recent thing to my knowledge that these children have done is had a user that was in both ACT and AssWeed spy and then tell them information about what we were talking about. one of our mods was at the time a part of both servers and would come to our vent spaces to relieve the stress the other server put on her. she didnt want to leave ACT because she had friends on there and also wasnt that interested in talking about nsfw subject matter, but there were several people attacking others headcanons and making her uncomfortable by saying racist things in the open. when i had experienced ACT it was mostly building on others in a supportive way. a lot had changed since then. we then learned that her complaints had been screenshotted and sent to the two girls we had a problem with and they kicked our mod from the server. for complaints that were warranted. they were still butthurt over us banning them, which were for valid reasons, that they decided to spy and get rid of anyone that complained about how ACT was being run.

a mature person would have seen how they were in the wrong and apologized by now. instead they are still berating us and hurting the ac community as a whole. for the best of both servers, these three especially should be removed and ignored. until then, i cannot forgive the ACT server for what they put my friends through.

With so many race specific casting calls (Asian colleague, black stand in who can drive, diverse residents, etc) it would be weird to have the main character be a privileged white girl. That’s why I’m still dead set on Moyo. Even if Kato was our main, how would they go about that narrative. Would she become more aware of her privilege throughout the season. Idk, it just wouldn’t sit right with me if she is our central character.

Today is not my day.

I have meeting today.

Last night I went downstairs to do something with the laundry. The towels still had ten minutes left. I left the laundry room and promptly forgot about it.

I woke up at 6:30 exhausted, set my alarm to go off at 8 and fell asleep so fast that when Mom came down to wake me up, I thought I hadn't slept yet. It was a quarter after 8. 8:15.

I checked my phone and it said I missed my alarm. What good is an alarm clock if it wont work?? If it wont wake me up?? My phone wasnt even on silence!!! And its not the first time this has happened either!!

And then I hear mom go into the laundry room and I shoot out of bed like lightning struck me because I remembered: The Towels!!! Mom had only JUST gotten the washer cleaned from the mold I accidentally kept causing and I apologised profusely for the literal MOLD growing in the washer and then I LEFT THE STINKING TOWELS!!! Oh my gosh. And mom was so frustrated she actually groweled in exasperation before storming upstaors to rant about it to Dad.

So I came upsfaira and dad asked me why I didnt put the towels in the drier and does anyome know how absolutely pathetic it sounds to say I went to do it but it wasnt done so I forgot??

how i, kiara heather-holloway, would plan and write the upcoming live action dylan dog tv show (thats being produced by james wan rn):

OKOK first off. my god. this has to be as comic accurate as it can be. this has to be better than the fucking movie or ill literally d*e oh my god. the movie was so bad and was only dylan dog in name and outfit. 

he needs the clarinet. and not for one scene. gotta have that shitty car, hes gotta be broke, hes gotta live on that craven st, hes gotta have the fucked up doorbell nd hes gotta have that p*lice officer backstory (though i dont want them to go too full into the backstories of the main characters cuz that takes away from the main story of the episode, and is really just unneeded)

this shit will be set in london. but as for the time im kinda on a fence? its always had a timeless sorta feeling, esp as of late with the comics only now starting to establish itself in the 21st century, but i would really like for it to be set in the 80s cuz a lot of the classic comic stories r from the 80s and it would fit in with how old timey he is with his car and movie references

i hope they have the budget to actually get the rights to use groucho marx’ likeness cuz like... the biggest thing the movie was missing was groucho nd even though there was a little easter egg in the beginning of the movie with them dressed like him... it wasnt enough bro, it’s not the same without him :(

i dont know where this show’ll get distributed, but im hoping netflix, since a 10 episode format (which is what it was confirmed to be) would be perfect on there with all their other shows with short seasons. 

im biased bc i love monster-of-the-week type shows but i think it would be perfect, since the comics are exactly that, where the story is self contained within its episode. i guess they could have some small overarcing story (maybe abt morgana and her tie to dylan?) over the season but idk how something like that could also fit in with the amount of story needed for the monsters and shit

id think itd be perfect if they adapted the first comic “dawn of the living dead” for the first episode of the series, since that comic is the introductory comic for dylan and groucho and how his shit works yknow? the audience could be like following sybil for that first episode as shes asking for their services and is just seeing their BullShit at close hand

idk about the rest of the series, but id love if they adapted the anna never story for an episode tbh

the tone id like for the show would be gothic, with european style of horror, but still crackheaded and bullshittery with grouchos and dylans antics and jokes. i hated what they did in the movie, making it a generic american action horror movie with the club scene of vampires vs werewolves. im so tired of vampires vs werewolves. let this represent european horror and bring that style into american culture Blease

idk who id cast for dylan. someone lanky, british accent definitely, early 20′s/25 maybe. i like brandon routh but hes too old for the part now u_u and honestly, though he kinda looked like dylan in face, he didn’t fit into dylans lanky profile at all. i hope maybe he’ll get a small cameo in the show tho😭 he got did so dirty by that shitty movie

the cast would be revolving, with only dylan and groucho and maybe bloch (if hes in the episode) being the main characters. the romantic interests and side characters for the specific story would last for the episode like in the comics.

this is just for me but id love for there to be a throwaway line about dylan and groucho being married at one point, to reference their marriage in the recent comics

also make the show rated r. i think the titties are the most important part of the comics

while id like for it to be set in london, id also like for it to travel to other places in europe, and take it to interesting scenery nd shit like they always do in the comics. idk how id feel about that one werewolf school story thats set in germany being adapted, but id like to see that german forest scenery lol

there needs to be a few groucho, la pistola! moments where groucho tosses him the pistol ok............also there needs to be the classic pistol

umm for the effects of the monsters, i think itd be best if it was practical, rather than cgi. ive seen netflix’s cgi monsters nd while they work...... the practical effects i think would fit really well in the timeless/80s tone by being like various 80 horror flicks with their practical fx. since the comics were inspired by those classic horror films, like night of the living dead and shit

instead of making dylans personality be the cocky action hero that the movie made him out to be, i... would like for him to still be that jokey loner romantic that he is in the comics, getting himself into trouble cuz he accidentally slept with the monster or the killer or whateva. 

like he’s smart with paranormal shit but he only has 1 braincell and neither him or groucho have it most of the time

oh my god i just realized i hadnt even thought of xabaras ok fuck uhhh OK maybe he is part of the overarcing story. maybe yes he gets introduced in the first episode like hes first introduced the in the first comic. but maybe in the end, with the finale he comes back again, after you thought he was dead but noo ho ho hes alliivee and hes always gonna fuck with you dylan you cant get rid of him. whatever fight happens in the finale, it ends in a sort of draw where maybe dylan thinks he defeated him for good, only for the final scene to be xabaras just chilling, clearly not dead, maybe watching over dylan

(if there was to be a season 2, id like for them to do the “i am your father” reveal then, instead of doing all of that in the first season)

(id actually really like for dylans backstory with the time traveling shit and morgana in the second season to be honest now that i think about it)

the first season can be about the monsters of the week and the second possible season could actually focus more on his character story and how he even got into this shit lol

this show really has the potential to be a really great show that breaks out of the usual horror genre and im going to be SO disappointed when it inevitably becomes like riverdale or sabrina the teenage witch’s unnecessary edgy teen adaptions OR just becomes the generic horror franchise shit that james wan usually fucking does with saw and insidious. 

im really fucking praying that he actually pays attention to the source material and accurately brings the more gothic and european style of horror forward with it, introducing it to a larger american audience... blease for my sake .. i cant do dylan dog: dead of night (2010) again...

When was Maria was born and how did Mexican independence from Spain effected her?

Whoever you are I love you and I’m so sorry I didn’t see this sooner perdóname por favor! 💖. I’ll admit this one kinda threw me for a loop as I didn’t really know how to form my answer so I apologize if it’s all over the place.

So I started talking with my friend about this and I always had this thought that María was born at some point between 1813 and 1820? Which is probably a bit weird with the Mexican War for Independence (I think) but; in general, this war is kinda confusing for me and I’m not really an expert but from what I believe/remember from our conversation we discussed that “there is an official explanation in everyone's text books and then the truth.” Like "officially" basically Mexico wasn't Mexico. It was the Colony of New Spain, and they wanted to break away from Spain and be acknowledged as Mexico. But think about how stuff happened in the United States. When the American colonists broke away from Britain, who were the people fighting the English? Officially, it wasn't The Native Americans but other Europeans basically fighting against the British so that they can control America. The Natives didn't get anything.

The same thing can be said about Mexico. The independence was started by “Criollos” or people who were Mostly All the Way European but born in Mexico. Other people like the natives, “Afro Latinos” and “Mestizos” weren't really treated well. So here were the groups involved

-Pure Spanish people who had the highest social standing

- Criollos who were basically European but were born in Mexico (so they were thought of as lower than Native Spaniards)

-Everyone else

The majority of the people making the big decisions and gaining the most from the the independence were criollos. So, like the American Independence, it was a battle between Europeans against other Europeans in order to take control of the land. Everyone else didn't get anything. That's one of the reasons why the other big war, The Mexican Revolution Happened. Oppressed Mexicans wanted to overthrow their Government and their Dictator. The majority of power and education had went to elite families who were mainly European. They owned basically all the land and were called “hacendados.” They ruled over the country with the help of the government while the rest of the Mexicans owned nothing and were forced to work land that was not theirs for slave wages.

The way The Independence affected María wasn’t great because, to me, María was more-so indigenous. If she was mainly European and from a prominent family she probably would have benefited a lot from it. Pretty sure a lot of those families got some shares of land out of it. But also because she was a woman, she probably wouldn’t get the full rights like men. At this point tho, women did begin pushing for full citizens rights. Because she was in a lower status, she probably didn't get a lot. In fact it was probably really shitty. Women did household work for a living. I know that there were a lot of ladies involved in the Independence itself too but I'm not sure what her role might have been. Whether or not she even played a huge role would have depended on her status.

I definitely always saw her as like “coming from nothing.” Like that's my own personal headcanon. I believe her family would have been apart of the Mexicans were forced to work on land that wasnt their own and were paid slave-like wages. Elite Families were put in charge of huge portions of Mexican land like 100 acres and such. They were the Hacienda owners, they kinda controlled everything. People were forced to tend to the land for very little or no pay and it lead to people basically revolting against that system in a super bloody war, the Mexican Revolution (1910 to 1920). Like I always thought she would have been a nobody or a really bad conditioned woman who was turned for a reason? I like the thought of her being of that class bc, when you think about it, it's a great narrative and it makes a lot of sense. I headcanon that she had all of that cunningness, anger, and resourcefulness as a human too, but because she was crushed beneath the boots of society she couldn't truly utilize it. Like, her potential had been smashed down, but all she needed was the right amount of power (vampiric abilities) in her hands.

Mexico's Independence was supposed to end the system and it kind of did officially but unofficially, like I said, all the land and power went to prominent, European families and their descendants. So it didn't end anything really lol. As I said, the war was mainly so Europeans could be free/gain Independence from other Europeans. Basically, the independence didn't do anything or change anything for anyone who wasn't an elite so it doesn't really matter whether or not she’s born before or after The Independence, or during it's height bc Maria's situation would have been the same like how Natives to the United States basically didn't really get anything when American Colonists split from England. Officially, and on paper the independence was supposed to end the system and everyone was supposed to be equal but in reality it wasn't. If she had a good family and part of the elites then they got so much power after they pulled away from Spain. They basically got as much land as they wanted; But bc she's Native or "mestizo" nothing would have changed for her. The Mexican revolution would have happened after she became a vampire (if she’d been born then) and that's where things would have changed for her if she were human (and maybe as a vamp too idk) because they actually revolted against the elite land owners and government.

Also: I have this headcanon that she was born somewhere else other than Monterey, because it never states specifically where she was born in Mexico. So I headcanon that she was born and raised in Oaxaca and then moved to Monterey at like half way through her life and then lived out the rest of her short life in Monterey before she “died” and that’s where she met her vampire family and they became the Monterey coven.

So when i watched death note in high school it made me curious about real japanese police work. I read about it alot and came to the conclusion that their justice system isnt too great.

Im currently upset that a coworker who i took as a friend - not only disliked me all along - but went as far as to lie about me to get me in trouble. That no one cared to hear my side. That i was fired on the spot. That people turned their back on me immediately. That no one cares.

Well. 17 year old me would have said. But of course. In Japan your guilty until proven innocent. That japanese put on a show but dont truely like most people. That they band together and will go out of their way to avoid any kind of conflict. That they care more about a pretty appearance than solving anything. 17 year old me that only heard and read about Japan knew these things. 17 year old me imagined this cool different country that works because theyre proud of this... performance way that they live. And i was amused by it. All i knew was america and european history. I was so hungry for something different. I was so interested in different people.

Then I went to Japan. I got here and it was too similar to manga. How silly, i thought, those a comics - i didnt actually expect the country to be like those comics. And ive never really been able to place what that made me feel but id grown past this bemusement of different “alien like” people. Theyre just people who live in another country i thought. I dont like america and our norms. I know nothing but america but i dont agree with any of our steriotypes. You cant describe me the way most would try to describe a typical american. So why would people from any other country be different. Im sure theres people like the sterotype - but certainly more not at all like that.

And i got here and i watched the smiles on service workers slowly fade when they thought no one was watching. I watched children put trash where it didnt belong thinking no one was watching. I was girls laugh loudly and run around and yell at their boyfriends. I watched drunk college kids hollar and reak havoc in the city. Not robot people, not obedient children, not, quiet and demure girls listening to the men, not studious students worried about their reputation. Just people. The same people i saw back home.

And so i thought. Its the same. Different history. Varrying values. Same old people - judgmental and watching everyone ready to scold them if they deem it necessary.

But that guilty until prooven innocent thing. The fact that the old way of caring about your reputation is still a solid work practice.

These things. Make me feel like... i guess.... to my dissapointment. Maybe america really is more free...

I dont want that to be true. The us is so full of itself. Just like healthcare. I want universal health care to be a good thing and at very least in japan its not really. Its better. Its more affordable. Maybe their problem is just how much they hate drugs and thats what stops real care.

But. Ive always been a cautious person - i just dont want to get in trouble. But ive never thought id be in a situation i couldnt talk my way out of - because i dont do anything super bad. Maybe sometimes ive pressed the limits - but never outside of... like i drank underage. I tried to get into bars i wasnt old enough for. Ive dodged paying for the train fare. Dumb things. Things that the worse that would happen is i gotta pay it somehow or id get scolded. Drinking under age is against us law but its almost never taken too seriously.

But its occurred to me. Yeah. In japan it is guilty until prooven innocent. I really could have gotten in legal trouble for baseless allegations.

And japan is as racist and people say. Theyre friendly and try to talk to you in english and say nice things. And it doesnt seem like racism to a person from the states. Out racist look at you with digust. They wont touch you. They wont talk to you. They dont want to know about you

But here... it takes the form of a racist parent who grew up in the 50s and knows that theyre not supposed to be racist but still is.

Theyre welcoming and friendly to your face but talk shit behind your back. They ask a bunch of questions like (in america “where are you really from”) they refuse to accept you might actually belong. They constantly want to assert how different you are so instesd of telling you that your different - they ask questions or explain what theyre doing. And if you say ‘yes we also do this’ they react with disbeleif - what? No! You couldnt possibly get this - this is our thing and you are not us! And they constantly ask if you miss your home. Assume that you’re uncomfortable because they are. Also also. Instred of not wanting to touch you here - theyre much more willing to push you out of the way

Theres many mixed race kids here now though. I assume theyll have to do the same thing that happened in America. I havent met any mixed race adults but ive met plenty of white dads.... all trying super hard to assimilate to the point that they walk around talking like robots. Swearing that everything japan is great and they dont miss their home cointries at all. Pretty similar to the immigrants of america from when my mom was a kid.

So i still think at least for japan. Theyre way more similar to the west than they think they are. But these restricting regulations that they live by... really does make the country seem not as free as id ignorantly beleived it was.

It surprised me because their rules are so much like the way my great grandmother talked about stuff. And while were supposed to care... we just dont in the states. Respect your employer? Sure we say we do to their face but talk shit with coworkers. Worry about your reputation? Eh think im a bitch i dont give a fuck whatcha gonna do about it? Nothing thats right. Dont like another person? No one cares. Like that person or dont - it doesnt change anyone elses relationship with them. Make a mistake? Well if your boss fires you - everyone already probably thinks their an asshole cause generally mistakes are just met with some form of dickwaving belittlement. Pretty sure most of us get mad everytime we hear a story about someone getting fired because they posted a picture of them in a bikiki or having fun - most of this generation agrees thats dumb and has to change.

I feel more like an american now than ever. Americans are reluctant to change im told. Yes. I suppose we are. We might not know the rest of the worlds history but we kinda know our own. And as much as ive alwags agreed with the sentiment that cultures are different and thats just the way they want to be.... we used to be these ways but decided it was restrictive and controlling and mentally abusive and fought it...

Ive been reading more about the work culture in japan to figure out how he fuck this went so wrong. Apparently when young japanese people enter the work force, they cant even have friends as distractions outside of work because their boss will move them away from home.

Ive already read that japanese think suffering is good and seniority and witness first hand their preoccupation of appearing busy over actually being productive. Its just this constant performance.

Perhaps i did stress him out to the point of physical pain. I remember having a massive meltdown where i shook and it felt like my brain was melting after i tried so hard to be a good nice person. I did whag people apparently like. I changed myself to just agree with people and be positive and assume the best in everyone. Then my “friend” told me that i was a bad friend because i asked them if they would people drive their friends home so i could to sleep at 4am. And the two things just didnt click. I didnt go to sleep that night. I sat at my desk shaking for the next 5 hours and having flashbacks.

Im talkative. I talk as much as i do here in real life. And i have alot of questions. I talked to him a lot. Made him look not busy. I know he liked talking to me. I know he did. Thats why i got confortable talking more. He was always surprised when i asked him questions about himself but once he started answering he kept talking. Yeah. Its nice to have someone ask you what your thoughts are on topics. What your experiences have been. Did you like those things or not. I know japan it a group think culture - i guess they get there by really draining out ANY idea of individualality. He told me hed never been asked what he likes about himself. In the us were asked that constantly from elementary school “what do you like about yourself. What do you like about your friend. What makes you different?”

It kinda baffles me... questions and thoughts like these are so common in anime.... and obviously anime is popular in japan. Obviously obviously. Im confused how theyre watching these programs often with such deep meanings.... and not taking anything away from them. In the states our tv programs are always being restricted and stuff because they might give us “bad ideas” but they aren’t restricted here and yet... it seems no one takes anything from them

When i visited japan in 2013 i saw a teenage girl in huge heels lose her balance and stomp on a middle aged womans foot. That woman had already been standing like her feet were in pain and she made a face of being in so much pain. The girl rudely didn’t apologize and the older woman said nothing. She smiled through her pain...

And i also complained to my coworker. Not full on complaining. The small ones you make at work when youre not sure of the extent you can go to. At first he held off like the other teachers. But. Then. He started complaining back. It got to me not needing to be the one say an annoyance first. Like i asked how his meeting was. Other people i worked with might leave it ah it was a bit slow but necessary. And he started that way. But instead he started responding to me a succession of statements the slowly crept more toward his real feelings. ‘It was good... we didnt do much... or anything, i just sat and listened and took notes. we dont learn anything, it takes up a lot of time but we have to go. I dont like those meetings. I dont know their pupose... but were told to go so we must’

Whatever. Im just gonna keep rambling and complaining about this cause it sucks and is awful. Contracted woth my company i wasnt allowed to publically critisize japan. I imagine thats why you dont often find many things on the internet complaining. You will literally be unemployable if your name is attached to critisisms of this country.

Where as everyone can come to the states and tell us to our faces how much we suck and how much cooler their countries are. And generally the younger general is just kinda like - ‘you right’ people write articles all the time shit talking the states and we just go ‘ya we deserve that’ we do. Im not saying dont do that... but like... maybe just maybe. Were doing the good thing where were like

In the states you might not want to become a ‘whistleblower’ and in some industrys you might get black listed for something dumb. But at least we talk about it and agree its a problem. In japan no one wants to even admit they have problems.

Know what else i told him. I talked about how were overworked in the states. That our work culture has gotten too similar to japans and we hate it. No one working 80 hour weeks thinks that they should have to do that. Of course i didnt go about it that way. I told him that my friends back home work 80 hour weeks and its unhealthy. That i cant work that much and refuse to. He i imagine counted how many hours he works and laughed and i said - oh haha yea i guess you also work that much. And he looked so much like he wanted to cry about it in the same way my friends back home. But said its natural in japan and that hes gotten used to it. But he definitely didnt mean it as he said it. I told him my friends say that as well. That i think theyre workaholics and i personally cant do it. That when work calls them they always pick up the phone even when they dont want to. But i dont do that. When my job called me as a server id ignore it and call them back later when it was too late for me to be asked to come in and ask them what they wanted.

Maybe to him my stories felt like when i read about students in europe being allowed to not go to school without reprucussions. It made HAVING to go to school evem more annoying. Why cant we choose to take breaks? I heard that place doesnt have homework - meanwhile im given at least 6 hours work a night! Not everyone has to do this? Other places learn things for fun?? They dont have to keep up with standardized exams that dont account for different teachers and school districts?? A 50% in that country isnt a failing grade???

Those were already shitty things but to read about them not bein universal did make having to endure it more upsetting.

Doesnt change that im stoll upset with him for not saying anything to me. Doesnt change that im mad that he made stuff up.

Im all for women standing up for themselves but the way Katrina said she was picking fights with people really annoyed me. Sometimes Europeans come off as rude but in reality they just dont take our shit, instead of being a Karen, if you’re holding up a line (which she claims she wasnt but really all 3 times) they will cut you. When i went to Germany i was shocked with how blunt and straight forward people were and guess what, without talking they knew i was American because of how surprised i looked. I think Americans and Canadians are very similar in personality. Also the way she described how she “spoke back” wasnt as cute as she made it seem if anything i bet you they knew she couldnt speak the language and she just offended them for going Oui Oui Oui to the guy & made it worse because they also speak Dutch and German there, she just assumed everyone spoke french. She is lucky the didn’t get aggressive with her because try pulling that in NY and it’ll be lights out.

i mean, from what i saw from that stream (i didn't watch all of it tho so if i'm missing something, my apologies), kat didn't really seem to really get confrontational with any of the ppl, besides the dude at the bar (where she kinda just had a wonky conversation with him), and maybe that couple (which she assumed was french bc the guy was saying "vite" over and over again).

but even her version of confrontational isn't really… confrontational lol like, she wasn't getting into their face and saying "what the fuck are you doing? you jumped in front of us in line" or anything like that. she was just kinda side-eyeing them. the one time i thought she went a bit too far is when she pointed in between that one couple, aka getting into their space, just to show that she was upset. that was probs too much. but even then, she might have just explained it weird so idk.

and as for the dude at the bar, that would have been the only time i would have been like "hey girly, maybe now's not the time to get aggressive or upset" since apparently he was a huge guy. i think also, you just gotta be assertive in those situations. if you're next in line, stand confidently and jump up in the spot. don't slowly creep in and whatnot. be aware and no one will try to jump in front of you. and worst case if they do, it's not the end of the world.

and just as a general rule of thumb, if you don't think you could physically fight someone and win, don't get aggressive with them. also, if you're overly sweet, and the other person comes across as mean, that's on them and they end up looking like the asshole, not you. take it from someone who used to get almost beat up a lot growing up and has worked in retail for almost five years. politeness is the way to go… until it isn't lol
