Danis: you can't have dogs in Baldur's Gate
guard: sorry, can't let any animals larger than a cat into the city

The daughter of a rival mafia group! reader that's been trying to escape the whole mafia thing and the worst possible luck hits her as she stumbles upon mafia! konig
Hating on your dad and running away is a normal experience that every daughter should come from to get her frontal love developed. What divided you from other people is your family history - and the way you had to not only run away from your dad, but from an entire gang and a fucking mafia family on your tail. You were never interested in trying to get into Vienna's underbelly, cocaine from Poland made you want to cry, and the gun sells in Berlin made you want to disappear - and so you did, buying a one way ticket to A Fucking Nowhere and getting a job as a waitress in a shitty kinda-touristy spot. No one ever cared for this village and this tavern anyway, so it's not like you actually had tourists...the plan was perfect, really. You just didn't know it was a village where Konig, leader of the rival gang, was living in his free time. His vacation house, if you will, his own personal playground that wasn't disclosed in any information you had about the area because he is obviously too fucking rich and important to get on the radar and...you notice that one of the customers is staring at you. You smile at them, always hoping for more tips because shit, running away from your mafia family with blocked credit cards is hard, and the man smiles back. Then he speaks. You recognize the voice. You somehow manage not to scream when he asks where your daddy is. You are asking him to go in the back, your dumb little brain deciding that pressing a knife against his throat would be a good choice - you knew how to use the weapon, after all, and you didn't want to be used in your dad's gang games anymore. You thought you would be able to slit the bastard's throat before he could say anything...but, of course, you were deadly wrong. With a face pressed into the wall of the small alley behind the cafe, you hear Konig laugh. You were dumb for thinking you could escape this life...but if you are really that angry at your family, he has an opportunity to give you a new one. The best blow to your dad's ego would be his precious daughter being his rival's girl - and so Konig kisses you right after pushing the knife away.

It has been two weeks since you introduced yourself to Joel and Sarah. You hate to admit it, but you haven’t been able to stop thinking about Joel. Your mind will stay preoccupied temporarily, then they circle back to him.
Throwing clothes in the washer? Joel.
Boiling water for pasta? Joel.
Doing the dishes? Joel.
In the shower? Yep, definitely Joel.
And this morning is no different.
You’re staring at yourself in your bathroom mirror, brushing your teeth, mind deep into Joel-Land, then your thoughts take a sharp turn - for the worst. You’re thinking about all of your past sexual encounters.
How unsatisfying and selfish your past partners were. You hadn’t been romantically involved with any of your past partners, all of them casual-no-strings-attached type of arrangements.
Even if the sex was casual, did that mean the pleasure had to be one-sided? Of course not.
However, after each encounter you found yourself feeling disappointed, and truthfully, it made you feel…..icky. Was it religious shame? Even though you don’t participate or believe in any religion anymore, your formative years were spent in a conservative, Christian church; where sex is bad, and sin is bad. And you don’t want to be bad, because you will go to hell. You don’t even believe in hell, yet, there is a small voice in your head that still worries about eternal damnation. Jeez, I should really see a therapist about that.
Perhaps it’s the misogyny and sexism, rampant and hard-wired into society and into mind’s since the beginning of time.
Your internal theological and philosophical debate gives you a throbbing headache.
+++
It’s Friday. Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, so most Halloween celebrations would occur this weekend.
If you were still in college, you’d most likely attend a costume party at a frat party and drink until the sun came up. These days, you don’t recover from hangovers as easily and find the anxiety spiral that follows a night of drinking to be too debilitating so you’re planning on keeping it chill this year.
You’re pouring out a bag of candy into a bowl, so candy is easily accessible for your sweet tooth cravings when you hear a strong, loud cluster of knocks at your front door.
Knock. Knock. Knock-knock.
Shaking off your initial startling from the sudden knocks, you open your front door to find Joel. He’s leaning his shoulder on the doorframe, one half of his body bears all his weight. He swiftly straightens upright again when you greet him. He looks even more handsome from the last time you saw him. He’s wearing dark wash jeans that accentuate his body in the most delectable way and a black t-shirt with a faded MILLER CONSTRUCTION graphic that is just barely legible.
You have the urge to steal the well-worn shirt so you can sleep in it, relish his scent, and let it become a metaphorical embrace of Joel.
Fuck, I really am down bad, you internally scold yourself to come back to the present moment.
“Joel! Ho-how are you?” you manage to creak out through nerves and surprise.
His beautiful, dark brown eyes are staring right into yours. His eyes could compel you to do anything.
“I’m doin’ alright, you?” The word ‘alright’ is drawn out making it sound like “awllll-right”
“Can’t complain. Y’all settling in okay?” tilting your head unconsciously, as if to convey genuinity.
“Oh yeah, ‘s a nice neighborhood. Sarah seems to be enjoyin’ her new school, I was a lil worried she’d have a hard time but she’s a smart kid and gets along with pretty much everyone. Awful silly of me to worry in the first place…” he’s rambling, hands moving at the same pace as his speech.
You find his rambling to be cute, it’s a bit of a juxtaposition from his strong, demanding presence.
Joel realizes he’s nervous after he concludes his tangent. When’s the last time he felt nervous around women? Especially a sweet, non-threatening woman like you?
“Anywho, I came over to uh- ask you somethin’... Sarah liked your cookies so much she wants to learn how to make them herself and was wondering if you’d teach her?”
“I’d love to!” You shoot him a flattered smile,  learning that Sarah wanted you to teach her to bake makes your heart sing.
Joel is amazed at you. You agreed to teach a twelve year old, one who you hardly know, to bake. He shouldn’t be surprised given your sweet demeanor and generous heart, but he’s in awe of you.
“You sure? I mean, you obviously don’t have to if you don’t want—”
“Joel, I’d be honored to. Send her over in an hour,” you cut him off, hoping to convey your delight in teaching someone else to bake, the same way your grandma did for you.
Joel can’t stop the shit-eating grin that appears on his face.
“Sounds good. I’ll send her your way, sweetheart,” he lingers just for a moment to watch your reaction to the nickname, the one he’s used twice.
You desperately try to keep your composure cool and collected, but you’ve never had a good poker face. You wear your emotions like an accessory. And right now, you are flustered. You divert your attention to the ground as if looking into his eyes would expose your every thought.
“O-okay!” You can barely stammer out a response before he is pivoting off your porch, back to his own house.
You can’t see it with his back turned to you, but Joel is smirking to himself and feeling amused at his effect on you.
+++
“You sure you don’t want me to go with you?”
“Yes, dad. I don’t need a chaperone to bake cookies. I’m a big girl now, remember?”
Yes, he is acutely aware that she is a big girl now. Well, not really, to him she will always be his baby girl, but that doesn’t stop her from growing up. Too fast for his liking. The idea of her becoming a teenager almost gives him a coronary. It won’t be long before she’s driving, then graduating, and college. What if she wants to attend a school in another state? Across the country?
He feels queasy at that thought, afraid that she will grow out of thinking her dad is the coolest, afraid that she doesn’t want to spend time with her old man anymore.
He wills himself to think about something else. Anything else. Inevitably his thoughts wander to you.
Joel hates to admit it, but he was hoping to join Sarah for the baking lesson. He wants an excuse to be in your radiant, sweet, beautiful presence again.
While you can’t stop thinking about him, he can’t stop thinking about you.
Driving home from work? You.
Making dinner? You.
Making his morning coffee? You.
Laying in bed? Oh, yeah. Definitely you.
Exactly one hour passes when Sarah arrives at your house. You’ve already set up in your kitchen in preparation; already pre-measured the ingredients, setting out all the necessary baking equipment and you even found a spare apron for Sarah to wear. Ya know, to give her the full experience.
“Oooh, this apron makes me feel like a professional!” Sarah exclaims after tying the strings on her designated apron.
“Well, after this, you will be.”
You can’t remember the last time you felt this much joy. Sharing a passion of yours with someone who is eager to learn from you delights your heart and soul in a way you didn’t know you needed until now.
“So first, we’ll need to combine the butter and sugar,” Sarah dumps the butter and sugar into the mixing bowl. “Great, now we want to beat the mixture until it looks fluffy.”
She is completely engrossed in watching for the desired texture, furrowing her brows together in a way that mimics Joel. You find it adorable.
“Excellent, now we are going to add in the eggs and vanilla extract.”
She follows your instructions to a T, meticulous and concentrated as if she were mixing hazardous chemicals in a lab.
“You’re doing great.  Now let’s add our dry ingredients, half of it at a time.”
Her eyes light up when it’s time to fold in the chocolate chips. You both agree it’s the best part, both of you indulging in a few before adding them to the dough.
You assist Sarah in rolling the dough into little balls and placing them onto the baking sheet.
While waiting for the cookies to bake, you learn more about Sarah and Joel. She tells you about their old house, the camping trip they went on this past summer, the catchy pop songs on the radio that Joel will pretend to hate but she catches him humming the tune later, how Joel makes a big breakfast for the two of them every Sunday, a ritual they started when Sarah started school - he makes pancakes just for her.
Getting a snapshot of Joel and Sarah’s lives and their dynamic makes your mega crush on Joel that much bigger. From what Sarah has shared with you, he seems like a caring, protective yet fun dad. You’re aching to learn everything about him.
“Do you have any plans for Halloween?” Sarah asks as you’re pulling the baking sheet out of the oven.
“Oh um, I usually just hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. Nothing super exciting. What about you?”
“We always order pizza and watch a scary movie - nothing super scary though. We dress up too. Well, I dress up but dad thinks he is too cool to do that so he wears the same boring mask every year,” she has a mischievous grin on her face, concocting a plan when she asks, “do you want to come over and join us?”
On one hand you’d love nothing more than to spend more time with your new friend and Joel, but on the other hand the thought of being in the same room as Joel, in his house, makes you both anxious and aroused. Dizzy, nervous, and horny makes for an unpleasant combination.
Gaining a sliver of bravery, you swallow your apprehension and say yes.
“Sure, yeah, what time should I come over?”
“6:30. And you better wear a costume!”
+++
You’ve spent the past hour trying to put a costume together. Not making any progress, you decide to seek external advice - your best friend Katie.
You both met as freshman and have been close friends ever since, even rooming together in your first off-campus apartment. She moved to the West Coast shortly after graduation, though you still keep in touch via email and phone. You give her the scoop on Joel - him moving into the neighborhood, your gigantic crush on him, how you baked cookies with Sarah yesterday. She’s impatiently waiting for you to bone your hot neighbor. Girl, I’m waiting too.
“Do you still have that bunny costume you wore junior year?”
You rummage through your tote of seasonal clothing in search of said costume. Pulling it out, you now realize just how skimpy the costume really is. Bunny ears and a tail paired with a skin tight black bodysuit leaves virtually nothing to the imagination and definitely too much skin for this occasion.
“Dude, I can’t wear this! His daughter will be there! I can’t believe I wore this out in public. This is X-Rated,” you’re growing agitated in having no success in your costume, to the point that you are tempted to tell Sarah you came down with something so you don’t have to go.
“Okay, okay, the ears and tail are still salvageable. Do you have something besides the bodysuit?”
“Ummm…” you trail off into the phone, frantically searching for something to replace the risque bodysuit. You find a plain white baby tee amongst the sea of clothing, deciding you can pair it with your favorite jeans, the ones that accentuate your body in all the right places.
“This could work..” muttering to yourself when a devious thought pops into your head. White shirt, no bra.
“Found it! Gotta go, loveyoubye!” You hang up the call before Katie has a chance to respond, tossing your pink Razr on your bed. Your body hums in anticipation and jitters, feeling emboldened by your no bra plot.
After throwing on your outfit, you style your hair differently than you normally do. You add several coats of mascara to your lashes, sweep on some blush that complements your skin and add a sparkly lip gloss to your lips, making them appear extra plump and juicy.
You grab a bag of Halloween candy and you practically skip across the street. Reaching the front door of your new bestie and her gorgeous dad, your confidence is replaced with a furious ball of anxiety. Your heart is palpitating and you feel your stomach churn.
Would Joel think you looked stupid? Or worse, childish? Fuck, you should’ve stayed home.
Joel opening the door snaps you out of your thought spiral but only briefly, because he’s staring at you like you’ve started growing extra limbs. He looks both puzzled and pissed?
“What uh-what’re you doing here?”
His voice has a sharpness you haven’t heard before and it stings.
You have a moment of realization.
Sarah didn’t run the invitation by her dad.
You deduct that he isn’t a fan of surprises.
Before you can formulate a response, Sarah saves you from having to do so.
“You dressed up! I’m glad you came,” she squeals while wrapping her arms around your middle in an embrace.
She looks up at Joel from where she’s latched onto you and gives her confused dad an explanation.
“Dad, it’s okay, I invited her.”
That seems to alleviate his confusion. You, on the other hand, not so much. You’re internally screaming at yourself. It’s obvious to you that Joel wasn’t expecting you, and in conclusion, doesn’t want you here.
“I didn’t mean to impose, I—I’m sorry, I’ll uh— just go back home,” fighting back tears of embarrassment, looking everywhere except at Joel.  You think now is a superb time to move across the country, change your name, dye your hair, somewhere far away from this humiliation.
Joel senses you’re feeling rejected in some way.
“No, no, come on in. Jus’ wasn’t expectin’ you s’all,” he gives you his most reassuring smile.
You swallow the lump of emotions in your throat.
He didn’t expect you to come over, nor did he expect you’d show up as his personal version of a Playboy bunny.  He almost busted in his jeans when he could see your nipples through your very thin white t-shirt. He thinks you’re trying to kill him.
+++
You’re starting to relax once you three settle on the couch, Sarah nestling between you and Joel, Alien on the TV. Turns out, you and Joel share a love for the film. You may or may not have gotten into a heated (playful) debate about the other films in the franchise.
Joel gets an influx of trick-or-treaters, more than you usually get, residents of the neighborhood taking advantage of this opportunity to be nosy. Again.
In between costume clad visitors, you sneak glances at Joel, who looks absolutely scrumptious tonight. His hair had been damp and combed back when you arrived, his curls now almost dry and in all their glory. He’s wearing an obviously well-loved, faded Pearl Jam concert tee that clings to his arms and grey sweatpants that sit dangerously low on his hips. You wonder if all his shirts fit like that. When he stands, you can see the outline of his dick through his sweatpants.  You have to manually restrain yourself from pouncing on him. You’re soaking through your panties and you’re a little worried that if you stand, the seat beneath you will be soaked too.
The scent of his body wash invades your nostrils, a heavenly mix of sandalwood and cinnamon. You’re imagining yourself running your hands through his hair and burying your nose into his neck, alternating between kissing and sucking on the skin there. You want to taste every inch of his skin, taking your time to savor him.
Joel’s stealing glances at you, too. He’s never seen someone look so sweet and seductive, divine even. You smell warm and sweet, amber and vanilla. Not the artificial, manufactured type vanilla scent, it’s like vanilla straight from the bean. When you readjust your position on the couch to get more comfortable, your tits lightly bounce, unrestrained by a bra. He has to stifle a groan, disguising it as a cough. He wonders how much they’d bounce if you were riding his cock. Your lips are absolutely sinful. Pouty and plump, juicy from the lip gloss. The bunny ears are the nail in his coffin. He’s picturing you bent over on his couch, still wearing the bunny ears as he devours your pussy from behind.
Only a quarter of the way through the movie, a few of Sarah’s friends from her old school pop in to invite her over for an impromptu sleepover to which Joel agrees to, since they no longer go to school together.
Which means you and Joel are left alone. Together. Your body is aching to close space between you and the man you’re enamored with. You don’t know that Joel is itching to do the same.
“Sarah couldn’t stop talkin’ bout yesterday. She loved hangin’ out with ya, thanks again for doin’ that.”
“She’s welcome to come over anytime. She’s a sweet kid,” you’re beaming at the fact she enjoyed baking with you. Joel notices the way your eyes gleam, overflowing with delight.
You finally have the courage to meet his eyes. The way his eyes are raking over your entire body makes your clit throb in anticipation. Your heartbeat is erratic, thumping loudly in your ears.
The energy in the room is magnetic, pulling you and Joel closer together.
“You can uh-scoot closer t’me if ya want,” he gruffs out, beckoning you to scoot closer to him. Joel wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but you make him feel like a flustered teenage boy about to kiss a girl for the first time.
You scoot closer to Joel, hoping he doesn’t notice your body trembling from nerves.
With your body flush next to his, he stretches one of his toned arms behind your head, resting it on the back of the couch. You can feel the warmth radiating from his body and it sends a shiver down your spine, straight to your aching core.
The tension in the air is palpable, both of your bodies buzzing in arousal. You’re both pretending to watch the movie in front of you, but your minds are elsewhere. He gently removes his arm from the couch and rests it across your shoulders. It’s a seemingly innocuous gesture, but its impact makes you clench around nothing, more arousal dripping into your panties.
He leans his head down close to yours, his mouth behind your ear.
“No bra? You’re a naughty lil bunny aren’t ya?” His hot breath tickles your ear, your eyes clamp shut involuntarily and you whimper. A high-pitched, whiny whimper, and Joel’s never heard anything sweeter.
He places his other large palm on your thigh, gently squeezing it. Your skin prickling in goosebumps and your nipples are hard enough to cut glass. The wetness pooled in your panties is beyond the point of comfort.
Joel presses a chaste kiss behind your ear, eliciting another whimper from you. He peppers kisses from your neck all the way to your collarbones.
“This okay?”
“Mhmmm…”  You’re already so keyed up you feel hazy. Your whole body feels hot, lit aflame by Joel’s lips on your skin.
“You gonna be a good girl for me?” he rasps while his hand is caressing your thigh, intentionally not too close to where you want him. Need him.
“Mhmmm,” you moan, still unable to form words, arousal taking over all of your bodily functions.
“Need you to use your words, honey.” He squeezes your thigh again.
He pulls his face back from your neck to look you in the eyes, and slows his movements on your thigh so you can tell him to back off or give him the green light to continue. You grab his hand on your thigh and squeeze it, to keep him from removing it.
“Joel, pleeease. Want it so bad. Need you so fuckin’ bad.”
You beg in the most sultry voice you can muster, emphasizing every syllable.
Your lust laden eyes and the way you mewl for him ignites something ravenous, primal, carnal in him. He hasn’t heard you cuss before and it sounds so filthy in your honeyed voice.  His rock hard cock twitches in his pants.
He presses his plush lips against yours. It’s hesitant at first, but his apprehension dissipates when you wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him back with fervor. Joel deepens the kiss, one hand gripping your hip, the other hand splayed between your shoulder blades, pressing your body further into his. You tangle one of your hands in his luscious curls. He tastes like sweet peppermint and a hint of black coffee. You feel dizzy, tasting him, finally feeling him.
He breaks the kiss, guiding you to lie down on your back and props your head up on one of the couch armrests.
He’s looking down at you and he’s never seen anything more beautiful. You’re always pretty, effortlessly so. But seeing you underneath him, sweet and desperate for him? He’d do anything you ask him to.
“You’re the prettiest lil bunny. So fuckin’ pretty.”
You’re bashful under his gaze and his compliment, cheeks burning.
Joel notices you trying to shy away and he places a thumb under your chin, forcing you to keep looking at him.
Now you feel embarrassed for trying to shy away in the first place.
“Sorry I’m—”
“Nothing to ‘pologize for, sweetheart,” he’s caressing your chin with his thumb, alleviating all of the embarrassment from you.
“Wanna taste you. You’ve no idea how bad I’ve wanted to taste you. Needed to know if you were as sweet as your cookies.”
“Oh, fuck,” you breathe out, “yes - yes please, taste me, Joel”
He chuckles softly at your enthusiasm and promptly rids you of your jeans, making the leather of the couch feel cool to the back of your thighs.
Joel lets out a guttural moan when he sees your sky blue satin panties soaked through. He runs a finger over the damp spot, making you quiver. His touch is featherlight and it’s maddening. You’re squirming, hips lifting off the couch, chasing for more.
He obliges, running a finger over your clit with added pressure.
“Joel, please–” You’re a whiny mess under him, and he’s just getting started. He’s rubbing gentle circles over your bud, still-panty clad.
He presses a kiss on your belly, just below your navel. The tenderness makes your body shudder.
He finally removes your panties and you gasp when the cool air hits your throbbing pussy.
“Pretty girl with a pretty pussy to match.” Joel’s admiring the way your pussy is glistening for him, begging to be touched.
He runs a finger through your drenched seam, your juices dripping onto his thick digit. He licks his finger, then shoves it into his mouth so he can taste every drop. His eyes clamp shut, groaning at how you taste. You commit the image to memory, not wanting to forget how he looks and sounds when he tastes you for the first time.
“Knew you’d taste sweet. So fuckin’ sweet.”
Your brain short circuits when you realize that means he’s thought about this before. That he’s imagined how you’d taste. Picturing him fantasizing about you makes you light-headed.
Joel spreads your legs wider, giving him full access to your pussy. He dives in without warning, licking from entrance up to your clit.
“Fuck, Joel!” You hoarsely shout with one hand gripping the couch cushion and one tugging onto Joel’s messy curls. His beard scratches the sensitive skin of your pussy as you grind your hips into his mouth, desperate for release.
You see stars while he expertly alternates between flicking his tongue and sucking on your clit. He’s keeping a steady rhythm, on the slower side, taking his time pleasuring you. He’s enjoying this.
Obscene sounds fill the room; Joel devouring your pussy like it’s the Last Supper and your chorus of moans and expletives.
“Fuck, don’t stop, don’t you fucking stop!”
“Shitshitshit–”
“Joelllll-”
He picks up the pace, your fingers cramping from their deathgrip on the couch. You feel your peak approaching - sweat beading on your forehead, chest heaving, head thrown back in ecstasy.
Joel senses your approaching release and pushes one of his thick, dexterous fingers into your weeping hole.
He reaches for your hand that’s tangled in his hair and intertwines your fingers with his, resting your connected hands on your inner thigh. It’s overwhelming; the intimacy of your interlocked fingers paired with the filthy onslaught of his mouth.
He speeds up as he adds another finger, hitting the spot that no one except you has reached before. You never knew it could feel this amazing. You thought you were doomed to a life of bad sex.
Apparently, you just needed Joel to show you differently. And you are so glad he proved you wrong.
Joel hooks his fingers inside you bringing you closer and closer to that peak you’ve been dying to reach. You’re squeezing his fingers, both the ones inside you and the ones interlaced with yours.
“Joel I-I’m close,” you manage to choke out, mind foggy from the intense pleasure.
He sucks on your clit, hard and you’re coming, entering a euphoric plane of existence. You’re floating, body trembling, coming harder than you’ve ever come before.
Joel slows his fingers and removes his mouth from your pussy, beard glistening with your release, gently bringing you back to reality. He keeps your fingers locked with his, grounding you in the present.
The orgasmic fog clears from your brain, regaining awareness of your surroundings when you feel how drenched your lower half is. Like, really drenched. You lift your head from the armrest and look down and you’re appalled by the scene.
You fucking squirted. Everywhere.
On yourself, on the couch, on Joel. His beard is soaked completely, to the point it’s dripping down his chin. He’s just as stunned as you are.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry, fuck I-” you’re scrambling to get off the couch and Joel grabs your arm, stopping you in your tracks.
“What’re you sorry for? That was so fuckin’ hot, sweetheart.”
“I-I didn’t know I could do that…”
“Oh yeah? First time ever squirtin’?
“Yeah, the first time anyone else has made me come… like, ever.”
His gaze goes dark.
You get the feeling that he’s just getting started with you.
And just like your cookies, he’d never have enough.
THE END

my optimal lionesses line-up v ireland
i am going to this match and i am not afraid to insult sarina from my seat loudly if she doesn't play younger players for this one
Tumblr media
A lot of players are on yellows and one more will put them out for the Sweden game so this is the main consideration in the creation of this line-up. It's two yellows for a suspension, Jess Carter, Ella Toone, Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze and Chloe Kelly are all on one. This is also one of the easier games in the group and an opportunity to play some younger players.
Alessia Russo may be injured after leaving last week's camp early with a hamstring injury in training but I think that was minor and mostly precautionary however if she's not ready to play a full 90, I would like to see Aggie Beever-Jones start in her place. They've tried starting Lauren Hemp in the nine before and it regularly fails to produce goals. However, if Aggie Beever-Jones starts, I would like to see Fran Kirby over Grace Clinton to bring more experience to that front line and introduce someone that Aggie is more familiar with playing with rather than two young players connecting through that central channel to create a line-up like this:
Tumblr media
Okay, so justifying my other choices. Firstly, England needs to start introducing a more consistent staring line-up for chemistry and game plans. This is not possible in the defence but consistency can be carried over in the attack and midfield with the exception of Grace Clinton. Hence, my choices of Russo, Hemp and Mead up front. I think they need all the chances to build up their chemistry possible so England can start scoring the goals they need to score. This especially comes with how they understand each other's movement. Clinton can slip into this as the best like-for-like replacement for Toone who can get up front to compensate for Russo's runs that create a midfield overload much needed for chances through the centre especially with both Wubben-Moy and Williamson unavailable to make these runs from the defence.
However, England will likely benefit from Ireland's lack of a midfielder with the talents to mark Keira Walsh out of the game which is why I have deemed it okay not to play Williamson and miss out on her midfield overloads that free up Walsh and allow her to make her crucial chance creating passes through the midfield. England will also benefit from Clinton's speed, allowing more of these passes to capitalise on as she can outrun her markers. Stanway and Walsh are further irreplaceable in the midfield, although I would accept Park in Stanway's role however with two inexperienced defenders, England would benefit from experiences in the midfield.
With all the yellow cards and injuries, England is limited in the defence. As a result, Greenwood despite being a stronger player at centre-back is the best option at left-back and fortunately links up well with Lauren Hemp so this isn't the worst scenario for England. However, it does leave England without a left-footed centre-back. Both Morgan and Le Tissier can play at right-back. However, with McCabe preferring the wings to score goals (though let's face it we have no fucking idea where she's going to play and quite frankly she shouldn't be given a positional label any more, she should just be called an outfield player because she plays fucking everywhere), it is better to play the more experiences player at right-back to possibly counter this and that would be Maya Le Tissier. However, Esme Morgan and Maya Le Tissier's positions in the starting line-up are interchangeable for me.
I want to see Keating make her competitive debut sooner rather than later, as a result, I think this would be the perfect time to give her a chance. She had minutes in the game against the Netherlands and with no friendlies coming up soon, I think this may be the only opportunity. If both Hampton and Earps are injured, she is the keeper we would turn to and she needs some competitive experience to remove the pressure and give England and herself the best chances in the future. She is a stronger keeper than most in the WSL and with Greenwood and Morgan in front of her she will be in the unique position of playing with a familiar defence to guide her.
If Niamh Charles makes the match day squad and Maya Le Tissier returns to the reserves, I would like to see Millie Turner play the centre back role alongside Millie Bright. In that scenario, Esme Morgan would take up the right back role to look something like this. (Left if Russo isn't fully fit and right if she is.)

Substitutes
With Mary Earps and Niamh Charles still recovering from injury, the match day squad (limited to 23 players) would be:
(players in italics are on a yellow and at risk of a suspension)
Hannah Hampton, Khiara Keating, Lucy Thomas/Anna Moorhouse Lucy Bronze, Alex Greenwood, Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, Jess Carter, Esme Morgan, Maya Le Tissier, Millie Turner Keira Walsh, Fran Kirby, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Grace Clinton, Jess Park Lauren Hemp, Beth Mead, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beever-Jones, Jess Naz
I think it would be sensible to give Charles and Earps a little more time, especially Charles, ahead of this game and not name her to the squad especially with the limits already placed on the defensive by the yellow cards and it being key that Le Tissier, as a right back replacement for Lucy Bronze, is named in the match day squad.
I do not trust this squad not to get yellow cards against Ireland despite managing it last time out, especially Lucy Bronze. Quite frankly, some of the players not on yellows are quite literally bloody miracles (*cough* Georgia Stanway *cough* *cough*)
Personally, I am a little disappointed in the match day squad as it would be a good space for Bo Kearns to make a debut off the bench and I think she would do very well against Liverpool and she's in the unique position of being one of the few future English midfielders who can play in a defensive midfield position. The lack of depth in the defensive midfield role hurt England in their matches while Keira Walsh was injured with Katie Zelem one of the few other English options available in this role and nowhere near the standard of Keira Walsh however I think Bo Kearns, despite being more of a central midfielder, does have the ability to learn this role and slip into it much like Patri Guijarro is able to do at Barcelona. I would like to see her make the squad over a player on a yellow card as a tactical decision. Ella Toone is probably the best option as a like-for-like change in the midfield squad list.
Considering this, this is the substitutes that I would like to see made throughout the game.

And if Russo is not ready for a full 90, these are the substitutes that I want to see made:
Tumblr media
These crucial substitutes would allow England to keep the experience and also allow young players to get game time ahead of the 2025 Euros something that is crucial for developing a game plan similar to the one that won England the 2024 Euros. With qualifiers for both the World Cup and Euros getting increasingly difficult, there will be no more opportunities like Luxembourg and North Macedonia to give young players a chance and they are going to have to get their chances in these matches. Jess Naz, Aggie Beever-Jones, Missy Bo Kearns, Maya Le Tissier, Grace Clinton, Jess Park and Esme Morgan will all be crucial to England's future success and they need to get the chance at some point and these substitutions will be the way to give it to them. For me, the most crucial players to play with be Beever-Jones, Keating and Naz.

Have You Ever...
Danny gets invited to a hero convention as Danny Phantom, and his booth is next to none other than the legendary Ben 10, one of Danny's own favorite heroes. But when the two start playing a modified version of Never-Have-I-Ever to alleviate their boredom between handshakes with fans, they accidentally expose some things they didn't really mean to.

Written for X-over Danuary Week 2024, Day 1: Ben 10 | Prison Thanks @crossoverdanuary for running this!
I got a late start because I had DnD today, and I finished this at like 10pm, so I didn't have time to edit. I'm planning on editing it later this week, but until then, sorry for any mistakes. [Edit: it has now been edited]
[Warning for mentions of past traumatic experiences]
It was weird to see such a huge convention center so empty.
Well, it wasn't completely empty, but a few people carrying boxes and setting up displays was a significantly smaller crowd than Danny would normally expect to see in a place like this.
"Ah! Danny Phantom you're here!" A woman with a high ponytail and a convention staff t-shirt walked over to him. "Wow, I'm so excited that you actually came!"
Her voice was familiar.
"Sally, right?" he guessed. "Sally Braddock?"
"You remembered!" She said brightly.
Sally had been the one who'd convinced Danny to come to this convention. She'd offered him pretty substantial payment, but it was only when she told him he could have three free tickets to the convention as well that Tucker told him he had to agree or they wouldn't be friends anymore.
So here he was, at San Diego Hero Con, halfway across the country, to sit at a table and sign autographs for a few hours each day, and then do an hour-long panel with a bunch of other teen heroes, and another tomorrow on specifically ghost hunting. (He was still debating whether he should actually show up to that one, or if it would be too dangerous.) The worst part, though, was how early he had to wake up to set up his booth before the event started.
"Here's your presenter badge," Sally said, and handed him a bright yellow name tag clipped to a blue lanyard with the convention's logo on it. "Celebrity meet-and-greets are over there. I'll lead the way. We try not to put them too close to each other or the lines get out of control, but your booth is right next to Ben 10's."
Danny perked up at that. "The alien guy?"
"Yup!"
Oh, man, he hoped he'd get the chance to talk to him. Ben 10 was Danny's favorite superhero. He got to fight real life aliens, sometimes in actual space! And sure, Danny had been to space before that one time Technus had taken over a satellite, but it had still been a ghost fight. It wasn't the same.
"So, this is your table," Sally said, pointing to an empty, white folding table. "Do you have a tablecloth, or banners or headshots or anything?" she asked him with a tight smile.
"Uh.... I don't photograph well," he replied.
Sally sighed. "Well, I can bring over one of the convention tablecloths, but you really should get some kind of poster or cardboard cut-out or something that shows people who they're meeting. And you'll definitely need something to sign. Comic books, or T-shirts. Anything, really. There's a portrait artist in Artists Alley who works pretty fast, her name is Jess. If you get something from her, I can send a gopher to make copies for you to sign."
"Uh, okay? But, I can just call a friend to bring something."
"Whatever works." With that, Sally left to go organize something else.
Danny called up Sam, who was back at the hotel with Tucker—Tucker would no doubt still be sleeping—and asked her to find a nearby print shop and get a Danny Phantom Banner to hang up and a whole bunch of 8x10 illustrations of him. He let her pick the picture, but asked her to please not pick anything too embarrassing.
Right as he hung up, a pair of people approached the booth next to him carrying plastic tubs. It was none other than Ben 10 himself and a tall, furry, blue alien who was no doubt one of his allies. (That or a cosplayer, but since they were with Ben 10 himself, Danny felt safe in assuming that they really were an alien.) The two of them placed their tubs on the floor and opened them up to start unpacking their display.
"Woah, hi!" Danny said, louder than he meant to.
Ben 10 snapped his head around, muscles tensing. Danny recognized that response all too well, and tried not to let out a sympathetic wince.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you," he said. "You're Ben 10, right? I know this is cringey to say, but I'm a huge fan."
"Uh, thanks? Just Ben is fine."
"I'm Danny Phantom, but you can just call me Danny."
"I can see that... uh... nice to meet you?" Ben replied. He seemed uncomfortable. Had Danny come on too strong.
"Something wrong?"
"What? No, of course not," Ben said, though it wasn't very convincing.
"I am Rook Blonko," Ben's companion said, offering Danny a handshake which he excitedly accepted. "It is an honor to meet another hero, though I will admit, it was only recently that I came to learn about you."
"Oh, yeah," Danny let out an awkward laugh and rubbed the back of his head. "My scope is a lot more regional and sometimes not very... in this dimension."
"That would be... the Ghost Zone, right?" Ben said casually. "What's it like? Anything like the Null Void?"
So he was at least somewhat familiar with Danny and his exploits. Danny tried not to let that go to his head, but he couldn't help feeling a little giddy nonetheless. Ben laid down a black tablecloth with his logo on it and spread it across his table. This definitely wasn't his first rodeo.
"I don't know about the Null Void," Danny said. "It's like the bottom side of this dimension. It's where ghosts live... or... not live. Reside. Almost everything is green because of all the ectoplasm there, and when humans go there, they can pass right through walls and objects just like ghosts can in this dimension."
"That does not sound like the Null Void at all," Rook observed, pulling rods and boards out of one of the boxes and assembling them into a small standing shelf.
"What's the Null Void like?" Danny asked.
"Mostly red," Ben said with a shrug. "Full of floating islands and enormous aliens. Used as a penal colony for this dimension's worst criminals."
"Oh... yeah, no. Aside from the floating islands, that doesn't sound anything like the Ghost Zone," Danny agreed. "Although it's kind of a cool coincidence that we both have experience with alternate dimensions."
"Yeah, I guess so." Ben looked over at Danny and his sad excuse for a booth—really looking for the first time. "First time at one of these things?"
"Oh yeah," Danny confirmed. "My friend is bailing me out at a print shop right now, but I was so unprepared."
Ben snorted. "Here," he said, digging through one of his boxes and pulling out a bright green swath of fabric. "You can use one of my tablecloths. I brought an extra, just in case. It has my logo on one side, but if you turn it around so the logo faces you no one will be the wiser. We have basically the same color scheme, so it works out."
"Thanks," Danny accepted the tablecloth, slightly surprised, and spread it out over his table. It was almost exactly ectoplasm green, just a shade or two darker. "Have you been to a lot of conventions?"
"A few," Ben said.
"This is your fourth," Rook said.
"That sounds right. If it hadn't been for Rook, I probably would've been just as lost as you at my first one. He's all about preparing in advance. But yeah, I've been a public hero for over a year now, and since my identity isn't a secret anymore, it's easier for the people who run these things to get a hold of me."
"About that... why don't you have a secret identity?"
"It wasn't exactly my choice," Ben replied. "Some kid found it out and exposed me on the internet. It turned out surprisingly well, though, for the most part. Must be nice for you though, not having an alternate identity—not that being dead is nice or anything like that—I mean, it's not a bad thing—or it is a bad thing? I uh... yeah, I don't know what I'm saying."
After taking a moment to parse that rambling sentence, Danny burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! Is that why you're acting so uncomfortable around me? Because I'm dead? Ha! You don't have to worry about that. You're fine."
"Serious?"
"Dead serious," Danny replied with a smirk.
Ben shook his head with a soft laugh. "Alright, fine.... Actually, that's not the only reason. Back when I was ten and just starting out I had... a bad experience with a ghost-like alien of mine. Ever since, ghost stuff just puts me a little on edge."
"Oh... I see. Well, don't worry, I won't take it personally," Danny said. "Did you really start doing this when you were ten?"
"Yeah. Although I kinda retired for a few years when I was eleven, and started up again when I was fifteen."
Danny did some quick math in his head. "Oh, so altogether, you and me have been in this for about the same amount of time. 'Cause I got started a little over two years ago."
"Yeah?" Ben was silent for a few moments. He pulled out boxed figurines of his alien forms and lined them up on the shelf Rook had assembled. "So... when did you...."
"Die?" Danny finished for him. "I was fourteen. I'm almost seventeen now. In about three months, I mean."
"Do you still age?"
"Sort of?" Danny shrugged.
He and Jazz had come up with an answer to this question a little while ago, when people noticed that Danny Phantom was starting to look older, even though ghosts supposedly didn't age.
"A ghost's body is a reflection of their mental image of themself. In the Zone, ghosts don't really age or change unless something specific happens that makes them feel older or different. Because I spend so much time in the human world still, because I learn and grow with each fight, I still feel like I'm growing up, so I look like I'm growing up, too."
"That is fascinating," Rook said. "I would love to learn more about ghostly biology."
"I would love to tell you about it. Problem is, I really don't know that much," Danny told him apologetically. He shrugged. "Sorry. I'm a superhero, not a scientist."
"I'm here!" Sam called, her heavy combat boots tromping into the room. She was carrying a large cardboard box. "I would have been here sooner, but I had to put together a design for the banner. Luckily I found a printer that could make one for you on short notice like this, or you'd be screwed."
"You're a life saver!"
"You wish," she scoffed. "I got you a banner and three hundred head shots."
"That's not gonna be enough," Ben said immediately.
"Ya think?" Sam asked.
"Trust me."
She sighed heavily in annoyance. "Okay, I can go back and get some more, but you so owe me, Danny."
"Yeah, I know," Danny said, taking the box from Sam. "You're the best!"
"Yeah, yeah," she said, taking one of the head shots off the top of the stack and leaving again.
"Is that your friend?" Ben asked.
"One of them," Danny confirmed, setting the box down on the table. "That's Sam. She and Tucker have been with me since the beginning. He's probably still asleep at the hotel."
He pulled out a stack of head shots for the table and slid the box with the rest underneath. She'd picked a good picture. It was a poster illustration for a local ghost awareness presentation he'd done a while back, and he nearly sighed with relief when he saw it. He'd been half afraid she'd pick one of the grainy newspaper photos of him in his underwear.
"That's cool," Ben said. "Yeah, I don't think anyone could do this job without allies. When I first started, I had my Grandpa and my cousin, then my cousin and my best friend, and now I have Rook as my partner."
"We have been together for a year," Rook added.
"Like... together together or...?"
"Working partners," Ben clarified insistently. "It's not like that."
"Oh, okay, my bad."
Hoping to alleviate his embarrassment, Danny unfurled his new banner and flew up to hang it on the wall behind his booth. It looked cool, but not too complicated. Just his name and logo and a little bit of ghost designs around the edges. Sam had done a good job with it.
"You are not the first to think that," Rook consoled. "It is a more common assumption than one might think."
They continued chatting idly while they set up their booths. Danny got to ask Rook what kind of alien he was, and what his home planet was like. Sam showed up with a whole bunch more photos and then immediately abandoned them to get a sneak preview of artist alley before she came back as an attendee.
Just before the convention center officially opened, Danny worked up the courage to ask Ben for an autograph, and Ben obliged him with a smile, offering an exchange, rather than asking for payment. Danny eagerly accepted, signing one of his own pictures and trading it for Ben's. Ben's looked far more professional than his own. He hoped people wouldn't be disappointed.
As people started trickling in past the security checkpoint up front, both heroes only got a few people in the beginning. After only about twenty minutes of boredom, Ben suggested they play a game.
"Sure," Danny agreed. "What game?"
"My buddy Kevin calls it Reverse-Never-Have-I-Ever, and my cousin calls it Have-You-Ever." Ben said. "See, we could never play regular Never-Have-I-Ever, because we all knew all the weird stuff we'd done and we'd target each other mercilessly. With this version, You say something you have done, and anyone who hasn't done it loses a point. If everyone's done it, no one loses a point."
"Okay... I think I get the idea, but why don't you start? Five fingers or ten?"
"Let's start with five," Ben said. "Rook, you playing?"
"I will pass," Rook said. "I always lose this game."
"Alright, if that's what you want." Ben shrugged. "Alright, Danny, have you ever... transformed into a different species?"
"Yes."
"You have?!"
"Uh, yeah. I went from human to ghost. Duh."
"Oh... right, duh," Ben agreed, shaking his head at how foolish he'd been to blow his first question like that. "Wow, I can't believe I didn't even think about that...."
"My turn, right?" Danny said. "Have you ever fought an evil alternate version of yourself?"
"Yeah, like six of 'em."
"Okay, well, now you're just showing off."
Ben smirked. "Oh, I never get to use this one on my friends. Have you ever been to space?"
Danny smirked right back. "One of my rogues possessed an orbital satellite."
"Damn it!"
Someone walked over to Danny's table and he smiled at her, pointedly ignored the way she shivered when he shook her hand, and signed a photo for her.
"Okay," he said, shifting his attention back to the game, "have you ever... been cut in two."
"I regenerated, but yeah."
"How?" Danny demanded.
"Plant alien."
"I should've guessed. Stupid plant creatures with their stupid regenerative powers. Undergrowth-ass alien. Lame."
Ben laughed at him while he signed a figurine for a fan who came to his table. "How about this. Have you ever fought a medieval-style knight?"
"A knight? Hold on." Danny considered that for a moment. Had he? He'd rescued Sam from Dora's realm that one time, and yeah, he'd definitely had to fight the ghosts of knights then. Oh! Also Fright Knight. How could he forget about him. "Yes, I have definitely fought knights on several occasions. Ghost knights, obviously."
"Ugh! I really thought I had you with that one. Why do ghosts who died a thousand years ago have to stick around for so long?"
"Nope!" Danny teased. "Okay, how about this one. Have you ever fought a ghost?"
"Define ghost?" Ben asked.
"The law defines a ghost as any creature which produces ectoplasm, is composed of ectoplasm, or requires ectoplasm to survive," Danny recited.
There was no need to say which law—that would be the anti-ecto acts. It was stupid that those stupid acts were still even law when public support of ghosts had never been higher. Although, they hadn't been as heavily enforced the last year or so, since the G.I.W. lost a lot of funding after repeatedly failing to catch their most wanted, Danny.
"Then yes, I have," Ben said. "Have you ever fought an alien?"
"Define alien."
"A creature originating from a planet or plane other than Earth."
"Then yes, ghosts."
"Ah ah ah!" Ben argued. "Ghosts are the spirits of dead humans, which means they originate on Earth."
"Except that not all ghosts are the spirits of dead humans," Danny countered right back. "Many ghosts originally formed inside the Ghost Zone, which makes them, by your definition, aliens, and I have fought them, too. Also I fought off some Incurseans back when they invaded the Earth a little while back. It was awesome."
Ben groaned.
"Haha! Gotcha!"
"Just go already."
"Have you ever died?"
"Ha! Yes, I have," Ben said, as if dying was some huge victory. "You probably thought you had me, but you were wrong. I may have been brought back through alien magic and/or time travel, but yes, I have died. Speaking of which, have you ever time-traveled."
"Psh, have I time traveled?" Danny scoffed. "I have literally met the Ancient, omniscient Master of Time. He's a huge pain in the neck."
It was at this point that more people started accumulating at the two heroes' tables. Some got in line for autographs, though both Ben and Danny were too engrossed in their game at this point to give their full attention. Others just stood, watching, and listening to the two of them. A few even started filming their little game.
"Alright, my turn," Danny said. "Have you ever... oh, I have a good one! Have you ever had to fight your best friend after he copied your powers which then caused him to lose his mind and become evil?"
"Literally how?!" Ben shouted.
"Is that a no?"
"No, I meant 'literally how' as in how has something that specific happened to both of us?"
"No way!"
"Yes way! That's happened to Kevin more than once."
"What?!"
"I know, right?"
"It is also strange for this game to go so long without any of the participants losing a point," Rook said. "I believe it is at this point that I would have lost, had I been participating."
"You put up a good fight, Rook," Ben joked.
"But... I was not playing?"
"I was teasing, Rook."
"Ah, yes."
"Whose turn is it now?" Ben asked. "Mine, right?"
"Yeah," Danny confirmed.
"Have you ever had a limb severed?"
"Yes, but I'm a ghost, so I reattached it pretty easily. Have you ever altered the fabric of reality?"
"I once had to recreate the entire universe after it got destroyed, and then went on intergalactic trial for doing it. And the worst part is, ever since then, grape smoothies just don't taste the same. It's so frustrating. I did get this super comfortable hoodie out of it, though."
"Ew, smoothies?" Danny grimaced. "What are you a yoga mom?"
Ben stood up, slamming a hand on his table and with the other, he pointed accusingly at Danny. "Smoothies are delicious, screw you!"
"You're just frustrated because I'm winning."
"You're not winning, neither of us have lost a single point! But you will!" Ben declared. "Have you ever saved the whole entire universe."
"Yes."
"What?" Ben fell back into his chair, deflated.
"A while back, this one group, the G.I.W. tried to destroy the Ghost Zone with a special anti-ghost nuke, and I stopped them. The Ghost Zone is the flip side of our dimension, so if it had been destroyed, it would have taken our universe along with it. Hence, I saved the universe. I just didn't let it get all over international news first."
"Boo!"
"Isn't that my line?" Danny said.
Ben threw a sharpie at him and he turned intangible and let it pass right through him while he laughed at his own joke.
"Anyway, have you ever visited an alternate timeline where the entire earth is barren and desolate and the alternate version of you rules supreme?"
"Yes, I call it the Mad Universe, because it looked like Mad Max, you know?"
"Oh, yeah, I guess I can see it. But really? You have?"
"Yup. The alternate version of Rook was a jerk."
Rook frowned but didn't have the chance to say anything before Ben kept talking.
"Have you ever... I don't know... every time I go weirder, you just match me. Have you ever had a family member be friends with one of you enemies?"
"Yeah, my dad considers my archenemy his best friend in the world," Danny said. "The feeling is not mutual, though. Have you ever been imprisoned by one of your enemies?"
"More times than I can count. Have you ever asexually reproduced?"
"Do clones count?"
"No!" Ben refused.
"Yes," Rook argued, possibly still upset about Ben's jerk comment. "Technically, cloning is a form of asexual reproduction."
"But could they fly?"
"I don't see how that's relevant to asexual reproduction, but yes," Danny said. "They were ghosts. They could fly. Most of them were too unstable to survive though. There's only one left." He frowned.
"Oh... sorry."
"It's... fine." It wasn't fine. He still found himself lying awake at night thinking about them sometimes. Danny shook his head and plastered on a determined grin. "I really think I've got you this time, though."
"Do you?" Ben did not sound convinced.
"Have you ever had to fight sentient food that was not still alive?"
"Y—wait...." Ben frowned as he thought about it for a long moment. "No... I haven't."
"Yes!" Danny cheered and Ben buried his head in his hands, humiliated. "This puts me in the lead."
"Not for long," Ben said. "Have you ever eaten food from another planet?"
"Wha—noooo...."
"Ha!"
"We're dead even again."
Their game continued.
"Have you ever fought a cult's subject of worship?"
"Have you ever had a Christmas-themed battle?"
"Have you ever fought on the same side as one of your enemies?"
"Have you ever been called upon to end a war?"
"Have you ever unexpectedly developed a new power that caused you trouble?"
"Have you ever used your powers to get out of other responsibilities?"
"Have you ever had to skip out on something you were really looking forward to and save the day?"
"Have you ever been blamed for property damage your enemies caused just because you happened to be there at the time?"
"Have you ever been mind controlled?"
"Have you ever fought an evil circus?"
The game kept going on and on, while they absently shook hands and signed autographs, with neither of them giving up another point. Until Sally showed up to tell them it was time to go to the teen hero panel they were on.
It was only then that they looked up and saw all the cameras that had been recording their game. How long had they been recording? How much had they gotten?
"Uh... right," Ben said. "Sorry everyone. You can come back for autographs after the panel. And Danny, I think we're gonna have to call it a draw."
"We'll have to have a rematch some other time," Danny said, trying to keep his tone light, despite his sudden anxiety.
Sally led the two of them to a large room with rows upon rows of empty seats, right down the aisle to the stage up front where a man in his thirties was already standing, and a masked teenage girl with glowing pink hair and eyes was sitting behind the table.
"Hello, I'm John and I'll be moderating this panel," the man introduced. "This is Lucky Girl, another teen hero we invited. Lucky Girl, this is Ben 10 and Danny Phantom."
"Nice to meet you," Danny said.
"I can't believe they roped you into this," Ben said, smiling at the girl like he knew her.
"Shut up," the girl barked back. "We can't all gain international fame overnight, and I have to pay for student housing."
"You two already know each other?" John asked, surprised.
"Oh yeah, we've known each other for a long time," Ben said. "All our lives, in fact."
"Ben, I swear if you give me away I will hex you so bad your children's children's children will travel for miles just to spit on your grave."
Ben put up his hands in surrender, and took his seat without another word. Danny followed his lead. This Lucky Girl didn't seem like the kind of person he wanted to mess with.
Once they were all in their seats, John gave them a quick run down of how the panel would go. He would ask a few questions. They would answer. He would open it up to questions from the audience, and they would answer those too. After an hour, the panel would be over, and they would return to their booths, or in Lucky Girl's case, simply leave, as she apparently didn't have a booth.
"She uses her powers to disguise herself, but she can't keep that up for more than an hour and a half," Ben whispered to Danny, clearly sensing his confusion. "She'll probably hang around for a little while after to greet fans, but she'll have to leave when her mana's drained."
"Oh, okay, that makes sense," Danny whispered back, nodding. "I was worried it might be like a sexism thing."
"As if she'd stand for something like that," Ben scoffed.
Soon enough, the doors opened, and people started trickling in. The seats filled up with mostly teens and young adults, with a few parents and older adults sprinkled in. Danny noticed Sam and Tucker come in and sit in the back row and waved at them. Rook was also sitting in the back row, trying not to draw attention to himself. Although, it seemed like most people thought he was a cosplayer, so he didn't really have to bother hiding.
When the doors closed, John started the panel.
The first part was easy.
John asked questions like: "How do you balance being a hero with the other responsibilities you have as an adolescent?"
"Honestly, not well. You know how people say 'you can sleep when you're dead'? Yeah, that's a lie."
"I'm lucky enough to have a good memory so I don't have to study much, otherwise my grades in school would tank. For me, the real struggle is finding time to do chores."
"I prioritize my other responsibilities. I don't usually face world-ending, city-destroying threats like these two, which allows me the luxury of saving hero work for after my homework is finished."
And: "Where do you go when you want to de-stress after saving the day?"
"I usually go over to my friends' and play video games. I feel safe around them."
"If the sun's still up, Mr. Smoothie. But if it's late, I like to go out for chili fries."
"The library. I know it makes me sound like a nerd, but whatever. I am a nerd. Who cares."
And: "How do your parents figure in to you heroic activities?"
"They... don't know. They don't exactly have a great opinion of ghosts, and they don't recognize me when... I mean, they don't recognize me anymore. So I guess they don't figure in." That wasn't entirely true, but Danny wasn't about to say they shot at him in front of a crowd of hundreds of people.
"My parents are actually very supportive. At first, they wanted me to quit, because they were worried about my safety, but I changed their minds. They raised me to know right from wrong, and to help others whenever I can, and they're proud of me."
"My parents don't know either, and I don't live with them right now because I live on my school campus, so I guess, like Phantom, my parents don't really figure in either."
They were easy questions to answer, even if Danny didn't always tell the whole truth. John kept things light, focusing mostly on them being teenagers, and how being a hero affected that aspect of their life, rather than the other way around. There were a couple questions about battles and enemies, but for the most part, they avoided the heavy stuff.
Then, about halfway into the panel, John opened it up to the audience to ask questions.
They didn't shy away from the heavy stuff.
"Hi, I'm Mandy, big fan," said a girl with curly brown hair. "I have two questions for Ben, first is, are you dating anyone?"
Ben chuckled, trying to sound amused, even though, up close, Danny could tell the question made him uncomfortable.
"No, I'm not dating right now."
The girl giggled for a moment before asking her next question. "My next question is: when you're fighting an alien invasion basically by yourself, do you ever feel afraid?"
Ben didn't answer right away. He took a breath, and nodded.
"Yes," he said. "I know I'm strong, and there's a lot that I can do and have done, but when I'm outnumbered a thousand to one, yeah, I'm a little afraid."
"Not that you were ever actually by yourself," Lucky Girl pointed out.
"Heh," Ben rubbed his neck awkwardly. "That's true. Even if there weren't many, I've always had people in my corner."
The next person who stepped up was a guy in a Danny Phantom T-shirt which read 'it's not gay if he's dead.'
Danny immediately groaned and Ben grinned hugely. "Before you ask your question, I have a question for you. Where did you get that shirt?"
"I got it at a souvenir shop when I went to Amity Park, but I think you can buy them online, too," they guy said.
"I'm getting one."
Danny groaned even more insistently.
"My question is for Phantom. If you hadn't died, do you think you still would have become a hero, and protected your home from ghosts?"
"Honestly? I don't know," Danny admitted. "Amity Park does have other ghost hunters, the Fentons and Red Huntress, for example. If I hadn't d... if I didn't have my powers, I wouldn't really have the ability to protect anybody. I'd probably leave it to the ghost hunters who were better equipped."
"And for Lucky Girl, are you single?"
"Ha ha no," she said flatly. "I have a boyfriend."
"Figures."
Next up was a girl in some pretty fantastic Lucky Girl cosplay. Her wig even lit up. Although she looked like she was quite a bit taller than the real thing.
"Lucky Girl, do your periods ever interfere with fighting crime?"
"Uh... that's a bit personal," Lucky Girl said instantly, as if the answer was instinctive.
But when she saw the way the girl reacted like she'd been slapped, hunching in on herself with shame, Lucky Girl bit her lip and answered anyway.
"Actually... the life of a superhero is really stressful. The kind of stress that has... biological effects. When I first started fighting crime as, like, a regular thing, I didn't have a period for months. When I finally did again it was... you know what, I'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, it was really bad. Like, my doctor prescribed me pills to stop me from menstruating bad. So... I guess the answer to your question is 'not anymore' and also sorry for the TMI." She finished with a short grimace.
"Thank you for answering," the girl said before going to sit back down.
Ben covered his mic and turned to her. "How come I never knew about that?"
"Are you kidding?" Lucky Girl muttered back. "Like I'm gonna discuss my cycle with a fifteen-year-old boy."
Ben didn't even attempt to argue with that.
As... much as those questions were, it was the next one that really stopped everything in its tracks.
"Hi, I'm Michael. I don't know if you know about this video that's going around. It was only posted, like, less than an hour ago, but it's really blown up in fan circles already," the young man said. "The video shows Phantom and Ben 10... I guess playing a game or something? Where you guys are asking each other if you'd done certain things and basically comparing experiences with each other? Do you know it?"
Ben and Danny shot each other anxious looks.
"Uh... I haven't seen it, but I think we know what you're talking about," Ben answered cautiously. "Is that your question?"
"No, my question is... well, in the video you guys are talking about alternate timelines, and fighting evil versions of yourselves, and getting mind-controlled, and changing reality. I guess my question is. Did all that stuff really happen to you guys?"
Neither Ben nor Danny wanted to answer. They didn't look at each other, or the crowd. They deeply regretted playing a game that revealed such personal secrets in a public space.
Finally, Ben cleared his throat. "Yes, all that happened." Danny nodded his own confirmation. "The life we lead is a dangerous one, and it demands sacrifices, and it takes a lot from you, and it puts you in a lot of strange situations that few others can understand. It's... not for everyone."
The next fan stepped up to the mic. "Follow up questions. First, how are you guys like... functional? Because I mean, if I'd gone through the kind of stuff you were talking about in that video, I think I'd have a mental breakdown. Second, why would you put yourselves through all that?"
"Well, first off, bold of you to assume I've never had a mental breakdown," Danny said. "And secondly, if we don't do it, who will?" he asked. "We're not just random ordinary high schoolers who up and decided to subject ourselves to unspeakable trauma just for the fun of it.
"We do this because we have the power to do things others can't, to fight enemies other people can't fight. We do this because if we don't... if we don't, people die. Or worse. People experience the kind of things we do trying to protect them. So I guess the answer to both of your questions is, what other choice do we have?"
"Yeah, exactly what Danny said," Ben agreed. "I tried to give up my powers, and my responsibilities once, and people got hurt because of it. My grandpa.... Because I wanted to live a normal life, to take it easy, there was no one else to protect them. It is every individual's responsibility to do what they can to help others. It just so happens that we can do more than most, and that comes with drawbacks.
"Lucky Girl, care to weigh in? You weren't in the video, but I know you've had your share of superhero related trauma."
"I think you guys pretty much covered it," she replied. "I don't think I've been through quite as much as you two, but I definitely know about the sacrifices we make for this life. I also know that it's worth it to know that the people and places you love are safe and protected because of you."
The boy's both nodded in agreement.
The questions didn't really lighten up after that. "What's the worst experience you've ever had as a hero?" "Have you ever failed to protect someone?" "We heard Ben 10 say so already, but have you ever wanted to quit, or wished you never had powers in the first place?"
After a point, John noticed how uncomfortable they were getting and had to step in and ask that the next few questions not be so dark.
A younger girl, maybe even a middle schooler, hand mercy on them at last, and asked, "What was the funniest thing that ever happened to you while you were saving the day?" and from there the questions finally eased up.
It felt like it had been far longer than an hour when the session ended, and they left the stage and returned to their booths to sign autographs and shake hands and listen to dozens of people gushing, "I'm you're biggest fan!"
They didn't pick up their game again, even when things got slow. Evidently they'd learned their lesson. And they kept learning it as more and more of the people who came to visit them asked about that video. Each time Danny had to smile and laugh it off, the regret deepened.
It had been a while since he felt like such a complete idiot. Since he'd done something so thoughtless. He'd gotten a lot better at keeping secrets over the years, but he'd just been so excited to talk with someone he had so much in common with—and yeah, he'd probably gotten a little too competitive also. He should have known better.
"So uh... I was at your panel earlier," said a girl who placed a science magazine on the table for him to sign. The cover touted an article about 10 Things You Didn't Know About Ghosts (they have their own culture!). Danny remembered doing that interview.
"That's nice, thanks for coming," Danny said, his smile tensing. "Do you want me to sign the cover, or the page with the article."
"The cover please," the girl said. "For Marnie. And um... I was too nervous to stand up and ask before, but... I was really curious."
"Oh?" Danny asked, keeping his eyes on his hand as he signed the cover 'To Marnie, stay spooky'.
"Why would you make it a game?" she asked. "Wouldn't it be better to try to forget all those things?"
"Easier said than done," Danny said. "Things like that stay with you. Turning them into a joke or a game takes the power away from those bad memories. When you're laughing at your fears, what can they do to you? That's the way I see it. Ben might have another reason, and technically, it was his game. He came up with it."
"So... what you're saying is, laughter is the best medicine?"
"Yeah, I guess so," Danny agreed. He slid the magazine back to her. "Thanks for coming by."
Finally, Danny's shift was over, and Ben's ended at the same time. Just in time, too, because Danny was just about out of photos. He'd have to get more for tomorrow. He signed his last picture with a sigh of relief, thankful that the convention staff had come by to cut off the line when it was about time for him to be finished.
"You finished too, Danny?" Ben asked.
"Yup."
"You wanna go get lunch with us? Wait... do ghosts eat?"
"We do, but I was gonna meet up with my friends for lunch today, and then explore the convention a little." Danny said. "Are you gonna be here tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I'm here for the whole con," Ben said. "Here, let me give you my number. We should keep in touch."
"Totally!" Danny agreed. "It'll be nice to have an actual superhero friend. I love Sam and Tucker, but there are some things...."
"Yeah, I get what you mean."
After swapping numbers the two of them headed off to their separate engagements. Danny transformed and got to experience what else Hero Con had to offer without getting swarmed by fans like he saw happening to Ben that afternoon.
They met up again the next day. Chatted at their booths, had lunch together, checked out the fan artists, just hung out for a while. This time around, Danny didn't have his human form to protect him from the crowds.
That video of their game haunted them both for the rest of the convention. People kept bringing it up until it became almost more annoying than mortifying.
When Hero Con finally ended, they both breathed sighs of relief. The convention was over, but Ben and Danny kept in touch. They never did have that rematch though. In fact, they were both pretty much done with 'Have-You-Ever'.

I am loving your BG3 writing, so: “you have no idea what you've done to me.”
No matter how hard he tried, he could not stop staring at her hands.
Hands that were quick to fight, to burn and break when needed; impulsive at worst and calculated at best. She had no problem using them this way, chipping blood from her fingertips like old paint, it was all a means to an end.
When her hands did not end up driving a stake through his heart, he knew she’d be the perfect shield. For all intents and purposes, everything was going according to plan. He could ignore the strange fluttering in his chest whenever her hands brushed against his skin. After all, it meant nothing. A strange side effect of survival.
At least he had thought so.
Watching that same gentle hand given to others twisted something strange in him. How captivating it was to see her fingers combing through Shadowheart's hair, weaving small white flowers into the dark locks as she braided them into their usual fashion. The act was almost imperceptible to the half-elf until one fell into her lap, leaving her flustered as Ceruli laughed in turn. You deserve a bit of niceness now and then too, you know!
His thoughts drift to what it would feel like to have those hands run through his own hair, if the soft caress of her fingers would awaken that same flustered response. He starts to question the fairness of it all, that Shadowheart should get to know this feeling when he hadn't, that she should experience her softness in a way he’d only seen.
“Careful, Astarion. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you are envious of our Lady Shadowheart,” Wyll’s smirk is worse than his words.
“Envious? My, you’ve got it all wrong. I’m simply enjoying the show.”
Ever the masochist, he finds himself still thinking of her hands in his hair when he comes to feed later that night. Part of him aches, wanting to know if the sensation would be soft, pleasing. If he would like it, if he could get lost in it. He certainly couldn’t ask her to do such a thing, of course.
Perhaps he was envious after all.
Wyll's comment eats at him still, resurfacing a few nights later when she recruits the Druid and he makes her laugh, a rare sound to hear in the Shadowlands. He grits his teeth when Halsin kisses her hand, wishing her a good night, and for a moment he wants to take those hands in his if only to remind her of him, however odd it seemed.
He once again shoves aside the fluttering in his chest. Why should he be so bothered by this? He could get whatever he wanted from her should he attempt the same flattery. A few honeyed words here, a sultry look there. It was easy.
So why did Halsin's forwardness rub him the wrong way?
He doesn’t find the answer until later, when he comes to feed one night; her gaze warm, inviting. She looks at him as if she truly sees him. It hits him then— he wants her to want him, willingly, not tricked into it with pretty words. Not just because of an alliance, or an agreement. He wanted her to want him, the person he was under the many masks he’d put up to hide behind.
You have no idea what you've done to me.
He’s ready to be fully wrecked, and he doesn’t know what he expects, telling her the truth. Exposing the raw parts of himself, against all better judgement. Admitting that his plan for protection was going so well until he went and compromised it. By feeling… what, exactly? A strange sense of fondness?
“I care for you, Astarion.”
She steps close, pulling him into her embrace. He freezes with an almost animalistic need to flee bubbling up— then stops, realizing what this is. He returns the hug, the fear melting away. This is what he's wanted, after all. Her touch. Her acceptance.
A spark, newly born.

Sick Baby Duck (Little Duck AU🐥💛)
Pairing: Chris Evans x Wife Reader (Momma E) x Arlie Mae
Summary: After waiting it out for the day to see if Arlie would get better, but when she doesn’t it’s time for a trip to the hospital so your little duck
Warnings: a bit of angst, mentions of hospitals and sickness, sad Arlie, worried momma and Chris
a/n: happy Monday everyone, I hope to get to fics out today since it’s my one day off from classes, so stay tuned for that! Things are very weird for me right now and I kind of feel like ass but it’s fine! I also feel like this sucks and my writing it bad again LOL
Word Count: 1,416
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arlie’s been sick a handful of times so you and Chris are no stranger to the common cold or flu that would spread throughout your household, but this was something you had yet to experience as parents. Arlie had been coughing all day but as time went on it turned into something very nasty and unmanageable, she was running a high fever, and if she wasn’t sleeping, she was in the worst discomfort and pain you’d ever seen her in. She was down for a nap once again after taking some more medicine, both you and Chris sat in the living room trying to figure out your next plan and what to do with your little sick baby
“I think we should go to the hospital, she’s not getting better and it’s really worrying me”
You nodded
“I think that’s smart, I’ll pack a bag with a few things, and we can go”
“No, you’re not coming”
The urge to smack Chris was strong when he decided to say that, but you crossed your arms and sent a glare his way
“Excuse me?”
“You’re pregnant, heavily might I add, and going into a building with lot of sick people is not a good idea”
You shook your head
“I love you Chris, but I am not staying here while you leave and take our daughter to the emergency room. Not a fucking chance. So, I’m gonna go pack the bag, and bring a few masks with me, and that’s final.”
Getting up from the couch you heard the sigh he let out, knowing he wouldn’t argue with you too much, you decided to pack a few things and change into a comfier outfit than what you had on. Chris was only looking out for you, and you knew that, but there was no way in hell you were going to sit at home and wait around while Arlie was headed to the emergency room.
-
Despite getting to go to the hospital, Chris made you wait in the car which caused another argument but in the end you decided to give up and wait for them there, he was supposed to call you when they were being seen by a doctor so you could come in, but he sent you photos of him and Arlie cuddled up in the waiting room with a fuzzy blanket over the two of them. Arlie’s eyes were red and puffy from crying. It was only about 45 minutes until Chris called you, putting two masks on you quickly exited the car and found your way through the waiting room and over to the nurse standing with Chris and Arlie
“m-momma hold pwease”
You frowned at the sadness in her voice before reaching out to take her into your arms
“I’ve got you baby, we’ll get you feeling better”
The sounds of her coughs and the stuffiness in her nose made your heart break, little whimpers escaping her ever few minutes. You were so thankful it didn’t take long to get in to see a doctor, and it ended up being Arlie’s regular paediatrician Dr.Charlie
“Well, this is a surprise, hi guys, what’s going on?”
Chris looked at you before sitting up straighter in his chair
“Arlie’s been getting sick the past few days, and today it’s gotten worse, she has a pretty nasty sounding cough, and I’ve noticed her struggling to breathe sometimes, that with a fever that will not go away, the only time I feel like she isn’t uncomfortable is when she’s asleep”
Dr. Charlie frowned nodding her head as she looked at Arlie who was resting against your shoulder, making a few notes before grabbing her stethoscope
“Alright, well that does worry be so what I am going to do is listen to her chest and her lungs to see if I can figure out the reason behind what’s got her feeling so icky”
You nodded and sat Arlie up which she wasn’t too happy about, a pout on her face
“Hi Arlie, can I listen to your chest sweet girl?”
She nodded and Dr. Charlie began to take a listen, getting Arlie to take deep breaths if she could, listening intently before going through a routine check-up, a few coughing fits had her doctor frowning
“Alright, well her fever is certainly high but luckily enough I can administer some medication to bring that down a bit, I’d recommend giving her a lukewarm bath when you get home, I know it’s late, but it will help.”
You nodded, Chris placing his hand on your knee, squeezing it for some comfort
“I think she has an upper respiratory infection mixed with a sinus infection, so I am going to send you home with some pretty heavy medication for her because I don’t want this to get any worse, it’s pretty severe as it is now, but I also don’t think we need to keep her here overnight”
“Okay, thank you do much Dr. Charlie, we really appreciate it”
She sent you a small smile
“Of course, now I will say with you being far along with your pregnancy, and your due date coming up soon, you shouldn’t be as involved when she’s this sick, we just can’t risk anything with the baby”
Even though you knew she was going to suggest that it still broke your heart, and you couldn’t help the tears that lined the bottom of your eyes
“I understand...”
Dr. Charlie sent you a sad smile before Chris got up to take Arlie from you, pulling his mask down for a moment to press a quick kiss to your forehead. You collected the medication from Arlie’s doctor before taking a few more notes from her and leaving the hospital, it wasn’t the most amazing news in the world, but you were more than happy to have a solution to get your baby feeling better.
-
Chris could tell you were in a bad mood once he put Arlie down to bed after her bath and a few doses of her new medicine, you were all pouty in bed rubbing some oil on your very large belly, a nightly routine that Chris often loved to watch you complete
“Baby?”
You looked up at him
“Hmm?”
“I know you’re upset with the news from the doctor, but I hope you know it’s only to keep you safe and keep the little man healthy…I hate seeing you so down”
You shrugged moving to get your cream, but Chris beat you to it before applying it to your legs, massaging the tensions out of your calves and then down to your feet, even if you were frustrated you couldn’t help the happy sighs that left your lips as his knuckles pushed into your heel
“I just feel helpless, I know she’ll be okay because she has you to take care of her, but I have never sat out like this…”
He hummed in response
“I know, but my mom and your mom are coming over in the morning to help out and you can still be around her baby, you just need to wear a mask to keep you and the monkey safe, okay?”
“Okay”
Chris leaned forward to press a kiss to your lips, a goofy smile on his face when you both pulled back
“How about you lay on your side, and I’ll give you a back massage to make you feel better honey?”
You pretended to think about it for a second
“I mean I can’t say no to that…”
His laugh filled the room for a few seconds before you got comfy, and he started to work on all the sore spots that littered your upper and lower back. The news from tonight wasn’t the news any parents would love to receive but you knew Arlie had the best dad in the world and Chris would be the best nurse for her, not to mention the loving support of both your mother-in-law and your own mother. You couldn’t help but feel a little helpless at the fact that you were told to stay away from your baby girl so you wouldn’t get sick, but you knew deep down with the due date of your baby boy coming up, you and Chris didn’t want to risk a thing. So, if you had to settle for watching Arlie get better at a bit of a distance, you’d do just that, no matter how hard it would be.

HII!! i have a request for a Reese Wilkerson x fem reader
soo there’s an episode in season 7 where Reese is set up by a bunch of bullies from school (S7 E6: Lois Strikes Back) and i wanted to ask if you could write about the reader helping Reese recover from the traumatic experience and he soon realises that he has a crush on the reader for some time while she’s looking after him. THANK YOU!! ❤️
Help You Heal (Reese Wilkerson X Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: When Reese experiences the worst prank of his life, Lois enacts her revenge by going after the girls that set him up. Y/n has a different approach.
***
When Reese begged you to come over to help him get ready for a date, you didn’t know how to feel. You were his best, and kind of only, friend. So, of course, you should want to see him go out and be happy. But at the same time, you had been harboring a crush on the boy for a few years now. Helping him get ready to go out with another girl would be rough.
But you still did it because, above all else, he was your best friend. You had to have his back.
You had never seen Reese this anxious over a date before. Apparently, this Cindy girl was the cousin of some girl who goes to North High, so she and Reese had never met until tonight.
After watching Reese pace and fiddle with his outfit and flowers for an hour, the doorbell finally rang. You were half relieved and half dreading to watch him open the door. But it all turned to confusion when he went from the happiest person you’ve ever seen to absolutely horrified.
There was laughing and giggling. You and Lois looked at each other before running to the front door to see what was happening. The sight made you angry.
Four girls from school stood in front of you, laughing their asses off. They were all recording and taking pictures of Reese’s reaction.
“Come on, Reese. Cindy wants a kiss!” One of the girls laughed. Cindy wasn’t one of the four girls. Cindy turned out to be a pig.
Like, a literal pig.
Disgusted and appalled, Lois slammed the door in their faces, but that seemed to further egg the girls on. They taunted Reese from outside as he stayed frozen in his spot.
***
The prank had obviously taken a toll on Reese. He refused to get out of bed for school, and surprisingly, Lois let him stay home. You volunteered to go over after school to check on him, which Lois greatly appreciated. She planned to go to the school to ensure the cruel girls were punished for their prank.
When you came over, only Reese was home, curled up in bed. He wouldn’t say anything, only giving you nods and head shakes to communicate. You were sitting next to him when Lois barged in, surprising the both of you.
“Your principal is disgusting!” She seethed. You knew better than to ask; she would elaborate. “He thought the prank was funny. He thinks Reese lying in bed, too depressed to get up, is funny. He won’t do anything to punish those girls.”
“What an asshole!” You said for both you and Reese, who whimpered at the mention of the girls. You watched as Lois sifted through the boys’ bookcase, pulling out a yearbook. She sat on the other side of Reese, flipping through the pages before landing on the section of your class. She turned the book to you and Reese.
“I wanna know who those girls are, Reese.” He shook his head, scooting over to you to get away from the pictures of them. Seeing he was still in a fragile state, she decided to take a more tame approach. “Mom will take care of them, sweetie. I just need to know who.”
Reese looked up at you, and you nodded down at him, trying to urge him to point out the girls. You wanted them to pay for what they did to Reese.
After a bit of pushing, you and Lois were able to get him to point at the girls’ pictures. It was a little scary watching Lois formulate a plan before leaving the room and then the house.
“Well, then… Want some lunch?”
***
For the next week, strange things were happening to the girls who had pranked Reese. You knew who was behind it all. But also knowing that this was her way of showing that she cared for her son, you decided to not expose her to anyone. Instead, you’d tell Reese about the events while caring for him. Speaking of, Reese was starting to get better. He could actually form complete sentences again.
“I heard that Heidi got hardcore grounded because her parents got a call from a hotel about a reservation she made for her and Scott. Apparently, she also ordered the romance package, whatever that is. Her parents went ballistic.” You could see a hint of a smile from Reese, which surprised her. Before, when you or Dewey would try telling Reese about some kid getting in trouble, he would become sympathetic toward the person. But it looked like he was slowly coming back to his old self. “How are you feeling, Reese?”
“Better.” His voice was quiet and less whiny than it used to be.
“Anything I can get you?”
“Can you stay with me tonight?” This wasn’t the first time Reese had asked you to stay over, but you wanted to wait until it wasn’t a school night since you didn’t want to go to school the next day in yesterday’s clothes.
“Sure. I’ll go call my mom and tell her that I’m staying over.” You went to get up, but Reese grabbed your arm to stop you.
“Can you call her later?”
“Yeah, sure.” You repositioned yourself to lie down next to Reese.
“Thank you,” Reese said unprompted.
“For what?”
“For helping me get over the whole prank thing.”
“Of course, man; what are friends for?” You asked, and he smiled slightly, but it quickly disappeared.
“Yeah, about that….” Reese turned on his side so he could look at you better. “Do you promise that if you don’t like what I’m about to say, to just ignore it?” It was such a weird question to ask.
“Sure?”
“I really like you, Y/n.” Reese fiddled with the blanket that lay over him. “Like, like like you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I think I have for a while. But we’re best friends, so I didn’t wanna say anything. And I think I was so into Cindy because I didn’t wanna ruin things between us. But you taking care of me and helping me kinda made me realize that I want you to know that I like you.”
Your heart melted at the confession the boy just gave you.
“I like you too, Reese. A lot.”
“Oh, thank God.”

Citizens of Westview
Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Request: yes I'm sorry this took me so long but I am now nearing the end of my exam period 🥲
Summary: Wanda is on her way to WandaVision as she arrives in Westview, but before she can freak out on us, she meets someone
Someone = you = retired warrior with telepathy + telekineses
Warnings: sad Wanda; not proofread rip
Word Count: 1.4K
Wanda Maximoff was fuming and upset and destroyed and violently inclined and numb from the pain. Everything hurt. Everything was changing. He was never coming back. No, she was never coming back. Could never be the same as she once was.
When was that again? It felt like a long ago, but was it? Maybe for everyone else, whose five years dragged with the absence of company, but for her... for her it hadn't been long since the peak of her life. It hadn't lasted long, really. From one horror to the next, life had never stopped giving Wanda Maximoff a hard time.
Surely this was the worst of them all.
She stood motionless for a moment in a driveway, staring at the worn foundations of a town house. Vision's house. Vision's vision, ironically.
Slow steps led her to its centre, hand clutching at his plans like a lifeline.
Wanda wondered whether she ever would have lived him. He wasn't what she imagined - ever. He was only there when she needed someone most. Did she have the right to mourn someone she may have used for her own emotional balance? No, she thought.
A strange feeling invaded her senses as she considered her own mind. She knew it. Except she usually felt it from the other side.
Someone was in her head, snooping.
How dare they?
She realised only now that she had fallen to her knees on the harsh ground, tears running down her cheeks uncontrollably. It hurt. It all hurt, and she didn't even know what was causing her all this pain. When she tried to recount everything to herself, it felt like encouraging the water drowning her back over her head in order to make her lungs not only gasp for air and find currents, but also for them to be crushed under all the weight of an ocean.
Everything hurts.
Which is why no one should have been invading on all of that.
With some struggle, she turned, standing, grasping the sacred paper in her one hand while the other cocooned itself in crimson magic.
Before her stood a young-looking man, though certainly older than her, hands pushed into his pockets timidly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't read your thoughts, I just... I just felt."
Wanda's mind spun at the sound of your voice. Deep, as if the ocean was now enveloping her protectively. Slightly raspy, as if you had smoked one year too many. Melodic, as if she had missed the lyrics to an important song.
"I... How did you- You can't-"
"I don't know what made you feel the way you feel right now, but it must be truly horrible. That pain..." You shuddered, approaching her with a little more confidence, but keeping a safe distance.
Wanda was lost for words.
"Why here of all places?"
She hesitated, then decided: "My boyfriend plans on building a house here. I wanted to see it. Or, well, what it would be."
You nodded contemplatively. "So there's a boyfriend, huh?" you teased, stopping when you were only a meter away from her. She felt volatile. She couldn't bear it if you tried to touch her. But for a moment, she was distracted.
"No," she found herself saying instinctively, though this hadn't been the plan, "no boyfriend anymore."
"Sorry to hear it. Or at least, sorry for you." You smiled a little. It was all risky when someone was this emotional - or so spoke experience. One wrong word or wrong daring and it was all over, but in the end, treating someone like a snowflake was the most likely to backfire.
She stared at you incredulously, gaping at the simple flirting. She observed her contender closer: a tall, toned man with short black hair and a bandana. She could have screamed and kicked when her subconscious reminded her this was more like her type.
You watched her, too. If you hadn't been so distracted by her dishevelled look, you might have called her flawlessly beautiful.
"What's the house gonna look like?" you asked as pleasantly as possible, sitting down in the wiry grass with crossed legs.
"I, uh..." Wanda pulled out the plans, handing them over. You took them graciously, taking a moment to look properly before smiling widely.
"This is really nice. Good town house feel. Kinda looks like one of those old sit-coms, you know?"
She couldn't help but stare further. The coiling witchcraft encompassing her arm slowly dissipated as she collapsed on the ground opposite you.
"Yes," she said finally, leaning forward tiredly. "I always liked sit-coms. Especially the Dick Van Dyke Show. I watched it when I was little, and recently... well, I was just getting into it again."
"I don't know that one," you confessed. "But I always liked Bewitched and The Brady Brunch. Sometimes I Dreamed of Jeannie, when I was feeling particularly whimsical." You chuckled and a watery laugh escaped her in response.
"I know Bewitched and The Brady Brunch. They're both good. I loved the dresses in Bewitched, you know? It was always so classy. What's the other one?"
"Oh, it's about this guy who unleashes a beautiful woman called Jeannie and she's bound to him. She can fulfil all of his wishes, but her attempts at doing him good often go a bit awry... it's very funny."
"I can imagine."
She could believe she was smiling. Honestly smiling. Practically grinning.
"If I may ask; where are you from? That's an interesting accent you got there." You saw the complicated expression on her face and quickly rectified: "I'm sure people ask you all the time - I shouldn't be so unoriginal."
"No, no, it's fine. People don't ask as often as I'd sometimes like." Her eyes glazed over in distant imagery and you wondered where she had travelled to. "I'm from Sokovia."
Your brain sent you immediate news footage of the disaster in Sokovia and the Avengers and-
Wanda Maximoff.
But you didn't comment on any of this, because really, what good would it do?
"I've heard of it." Her shoulders sagged. She could see the pitiful questions coming her way already. "It's somewhere between Slovakia and the Czech Republic, no?"
Her eyes widened. For another moment, she was distracted.
"Yeah. That's it. It's beautiful, you know. Terrible government, but beautiful."
"Just like the U.S., then?" you smirked, earning an Eastern European smile of superiority in return.
"Mhm. We had this tradition in the winter where we would..."
You listened intently, hanging onto every word as if you were going to be tested in the material.
You didn't generally like people too much. You didn't hate them, either. You had just seen too much. Too many thoughts, emotions, memories, fears - too much humanity for one receiver.
But another person who had seen all that? Had felt and heard the facets of a thousand lives? That was interesting. You were very interested. Maybe you would have been even if that hadn't been the case.
Darkness crawled over the clouded planes of this Western sky, draping its silky blanket dotted with shining light and an iridescent crescent over the town of Westview. The two of you hardly noticed, delved deep in conversation, until making out the other's face proved a challenge.
"I should be going," Wanda gave in to nature's lullaby eventually. "I'm not sure where to go, though."
You considered her for a moment, then offered: "You're welcome to stay at my place for a while. If not, I know an inn downtown that's probably still open?"
She gazed at you in a way that the naïve mind could interpret as loving, then slowly nodded.
"Yes, I'd like to stay with you. I trust you, stranger, even if it is not in my best interest." Her accent was thick with drowsiness.
"Good. Can I ask - just to be sure - what's your name?"
"Wanda. You knew?"
"I had a hunch. My name's (y/n)."
"Do you have a superhero name or something, too?" she laughed warmly, but she could still taste the salt of tears on her tongue.
"No, I never cared much for superheroes."

The drive from their motel to the cattle ranch is a short enough trip, but it's an uncomfortable one. The roads are pitted gravel at best and crater pocked dirt at the worst. Any time he glances over, he can see Claire holding anything she can get her hands on. Hitting one particularly large, unavoidable rut just about knocks the air out of him and causes her to let out a yelp and grab his forearm hard enough to leave the half moon indents of her nails in his skin. He holds back the wince of discomfort.
His grip on the steering wheel loosens in silent relief when he makes the turn onto the winding driveway. They pass a couple rolling acres dotted with horses. Claire has both her hands on the window ledge now, her death grip on Six's arm forgotten as she stares out the window. He hadn't expected her to be captivated by the animals, but he supposes that it's a novel experience for her. Being the niece of a CIA handler and having a heart condition surely led to a mundane life spent locked away. Six feels a pang in his chest when he thinks about Fitz. He should be the one with Claire, not him.
The drive opens up into a dead end parking lot. On his right is a massive barn, on his left are a couple of bunkhouses, but it's straight ahead that catches his attention. You had said to park in front of the large, white house, so he does, pulling right next to a green truck that he had noticed at the gas station. The truck settles into park with the enthusiasm of a reanimated corpse finally allowed to rest again. Six pushes the door open and wrestles it closed behind him. He's greeted by a large, rust colored dog. It stands in front of him, panting expectantly. He ignores it in favor of ducking down to speak into the truck's cabin, one arm casually resting on top of the vehicle.
"Let's go find my new boss."
Claire gives him one of her skeptical looks and shoves her own door open with a dramatic sigh. He's surprised it doesn't fall off its hinges. He feels the dog's hot breath against his knees and inches around the animal to join his adoptive daughter at the tailgate.
"What's the plan? Is there even anyone here? I th-oh!" Her voice cuts off as she spots the dog. She crouches down and enthusiastically starts petting it. He supposes that the dog is pleased with the arrangement if the lolling tongue and kicking back leg are any indication.
He watches on in silence for a moment before he hears banging noises and a loud whinny from the barn. He looks in that direction and gives Claire a quiet "Hey". He makes a gesture for her to follow him when she looks up at him. The dog runs ahead of them as they crunch over the gravel before impatiently doubling back to match their speed.
───※ ·❆· ※───
You're kneeling next to one of your horses when you hear the scuff of feet and scrabbling of dog nails. You finish velcroing the sports medicine boot in place before you stand up. Your mare nudges your arm and snorts when you don't produce a treat despite having a bucket of grain with a few mouthfuls left. You absently run a hand down her face as you turn to face the people coming into your barn.
You're greeted with the sight of the gas station man and whom you presume is the daughter he had mentioned. The ranch dog is wagging his tail furiously as he stops next to the girl, pressing in close for the pets she provides him. He's clearly smitten with her.
"Come on over." You call.
The man, Six, makes piercing eye contact as he approaches. His arms are casually at his sides but there's tension in his broad shoulders. The girl is right on his heels, nearly tripping over both her dad and the dog. She's clearly nervous but there's a look of fascination on her face. Her skin is pale, almost translucent like she hasn't had much sun exposure.
Your prospective ranch hand is a formidable presence up close. He's tall enough that you have tip your head back to make eye contact. You feel a little like an insect under a magnifying glass with the way he stands over you, running analyzing eyes over your face. You brush it off and square up to him like you would to one of your cow horses. You were long since used to winning the respect of larger animals. You weren't about to squirm.
"Sierra." You say, offering your hand.
He takes it immediately, no reservations about the horse sweat and grime coating it. He says your name in the same tone you said his. His hand is warm and calloused in yours. There's strength in his grip that you can clearly feel even from such a brief clasp. You offer the same hand to the girl. She takes it. You give her a smile you didn't give her father.
"Any friend of Winston here is a friend of mine." You say brightly, gesturing down at the dog doing his best to wiggle into the middle of things.
"Must have a lot of friends then." Her response is fast. She's clever, confident through her nerves.
"Surprisingly not. You must be special." You say. "So what's your name, honey?"
"Claire."
There's a sharp intake of air from the man next to her. You cut your eyes at him. There's a flash of worry on his face that gets smoothed over so quickly you almost wondered if you imagined it. Something was off about this situation, but the girl seemed to trust the man implicitly. None of your own instincts were dreaming danger either. Strange. Winston and the mare behind you weren't agitated by his presence either.
"Well, Claire, it's nice to meet you. How about I give you two the tour and we'll go from there?"
Six gives an agreeable nod and his daughter's face lights up. You double check the quick release knot securing your horse to the tie ring. You can feel his gaze like a physical hand on your back. It takes everything in you to not involuntarily shiver under the imaginary weight. You give the black mare a pat that's more reassuring to you than to her before you turn around to meet that heavy gaze head on.
"After you." His voice is like velvet, rich and promising.
You fight down the urge to swallow thickly at the sound of his voice and begin the overview of the property.
───※ ·❆· ※───
He and Claire follow you for the better part of an hour. His eyes tend to wander more towards you than the surroundings you're explaining. There's something appraising in the way he watches you. It's nothing like the looks you've gotten from some of your other ranch hands. Their stares make your skin crawl at times, but his... well, it has you wanting to crawl in an entirely different way.
"How many others are there?"
The question catches you off guard. The three of you are standing in front of the bunkhouse you told him he would be staying in. He's been so silent throughout the tour that you had nearly forgotten what he sounds like.
"There's three. Dallas, Jimmy, and Charles. We had four, but one of them decided to light out about a week ago."
"Why did he leave?"
"Conflict of interests." There's more steel in your voice than you intended, but Six gives an accepting nod and changes the topic.
"What about my daughter?"
"Oh! Right, yes. She'll be staying in the main house with me and Suzanne, the property owner. Claire's a minor and not under contract so I don't want to toss her in with you and the other men. If that's alright with you?"
"Good." His tone is warm. "She has a pacemaker. I worry about her. Having her safe is my priority." He has a softer presence when he speaks about Claire.
"Good dad. I'll introduce you after I put you through your test. As long as you find everything suitable, I'd like to see how you are on a horse."
He agrees, and your small party tramps back over to the barn to where you left your horse waiting patiently. She rumbles when she sees you cross the threshold. Claire's interest is at its peak and she's nearly vibrating.
"Here." You say, pulling a treat out of your pocket. You press it into her hand. "Show her your empty hand and then close your fingers and offer it to her to sniff. If she bumps it with her nose, you can pet her."
She follows your directions to the letter and is soon petting the animal. You beckon her father over closer and step out of the way to give them room to interact with the mare. He's got such a tender look on his face while looking at his daughter that your breath catches for a moment.
"Claire, if you hold your hand out flat and under her nose, she'll take that treat from you now that you've gotten acquainted." Your tone is casual and you avoid looking at the man's face again
"Oh!" She laughs a bit as the horse's whisker's skim over her palm.
"Her name is Belladonna. Sierra, she'll be the horse I test you out on. If everything goes well, the two of you will be partners during the term of your contract."
He nods and that's that. You quickly swap the mare's halter for her bridle and then you and Claire are soon leaning against the indoor area railing watching Six swing a leg over the Quarter Horse's back and settle into the saddle. He rides well enough. You watch him as he urges Belladonna to a walk. His hands are gentle on the reins and he's well balanced in the saddle. He's definitely not spent long hours and days mounted, but he's not the worst you've ever seen ride. Some of your own ranch hands have been hired with a worse seat.
"Bring her to a jog and have her circle those cones." You call to him.
He raises a hand in acknowledgment and clicks to the horse. She tosses her head in excitement and gives a little cowhop. There's barely any movement or surprise from her rider, he's got a natural grace to him that automatically shifts and sways to accommodate the mare's movements. He does what you ask of him and before long you're calling him back over to dismount. His feet barely hit the ground before you're pulling the folded contract out of your shirt pocket. He turns to face you and the two of you both start speaking.
"Are you ready to-"
"I'm not too exper-"
There's a brief silence only accompanied by Belladonna's swishing tail and Winston panting happily as Claire scratches between his ears.
"You go first." Six says, encouragement in his tone.
You take a breath. "If everything is suitable to you, I would like to take you on for the season. I've got the contract right here if you would like to look it over and sign it." You hold you the paper and a pen out to him. He takes both with steady hands.
"He doesn't know how to read." Comes Claire's earnest voice.
Both you and her dad look over to see her face dripping with sincerity. He shakes his head somberly. "Don't tell all my secrets."
You have to stifle a laugh at the two of them. The man quickly scans his blue, blue eyes along the words on the page. He quickly scrawls his signature at the bottom of the page before handing the signed page and the pen back to you.
"I'm yours now."
It sounds like a promise.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dinner is a singlesidedly noisy affair. The old woman started fussing over the father and daughter from the second you introduced them to her. She doesn't allow for any lulls in the conversation and it really starts to feels like a hostage situation. Six finally begs off with the excuse that Claire needs to go to bed. You spring at the chance to escape and show them to the bedroom that the teen will be staying in.
"If there's anything you need, just let me know." You say before wishing Claire goodnight and going back down the stairs to give them some privacy.
You need to do the dinner cleanup anyway. This old house never got updated with a dishwasher. Suzanne passes you in the kitchen with her eyebrows raised and an amused look on her face. You ignore her pointed look towards the stairs where you can both hear the muffled voice of the man you just hired. You don't want to talk about his presence. You have never let any of the other ranch hands further than the front porch, much less invited them to dinner. Granted, none of the other hands have had a child with them.
You're in the middle of rinsing off a plate when an arm reaches around you to grab the dish towel hanging by the sink. You stare for a second, taking in the rolled up sleeve and flex of his muscles underneath his tattooed skin. You can feel the heat of him against your back and your mouth goes dry. He gently takes the plate from your hands when you go to set it aside and dries it off. The two of you work in comfortable silence only accented by the sounds of water and clink of dishes. You wash and he dries. You savor the glimpses you get of his hands and his strong forearms. His hands are scarred and calloused but the way he uses his fingers is delicate. His pace is unhurried, steady. You sneak a glance at his face and it's relaxed.
Finally, when he's drying the final dish and you've pulled the plug in the sink, you turn to him. There's a breathless moment where the two of you simply look at eachother. Neither of you speak as you show him to the front door. There's a pause on the threshold, and you can visibly see him struggle with himself on what to say. You wait patiently.
"Goodnight." It's low, intimate in the glow of the porch light.
You smile at him for the first time. He doesn't return it but there's a softer curve to his lips when you do.
"Goodnight, Sierra." Your voice comes out quieter, more tender than you had meant. You flush. You hope he can't notice.
He nods, a slow include of his head, and steps out of the doorway and turns to go down the porch steps. You close the door behind him and let out a shaky breath. He is all but a complete stranger. There is no reasonable explanation for you to respond to him the way that you have been since he showed up on the property. Or, if you're being honest with yourself, since you spotted him at the gas station.
He had clearly stuck out as an outsider. A little sweaty and worn. There was pained exhaustion written in the lines of his body and despite your anger over the situation involving your deserting ranch hand, your eye was drawn to him. You watched him analyze his surroundings with a practiced eye and saw his sleight of hand. A desperate man.
You made sure to raise your voice when he came to the register. He focused in on you and your heart lept in your throat when he said he'd do the job. His gaze had been so intense, so hopeful. When he mentioned that he had a daughter, your mind was made up.
You know that you are just going to have faith in him. Somehow he doesn't seem like the kind of man who would fall short.

So, watched live action One Piece and now I'm watching/reading the OG stuff. No where close to done but my brain decided to fixate on Arlong so I can't help but talk about him a bit.
Something that I find kind of interesting about Arlong is that if you read his backstory then go back to the main Arc he was in you actually realize he's way more mellow then he was in the past. Now, he's still awful but given what we're shown of him in Jinbe's flashbacks I think it kind of shows that he did, in a weird way (and not in the way Fisher Tiger would have wanted) changed due to Fisher Tiger's words on not killing humans.
In the past Arlong was constantly advocating for killing humans and terrorizing them so they'd learn their place. He never warms up to Koala despite the rest of the crew--including his own friends coming to like her. Everyone is sad to see her go even Kurobi who is later one of the worst in Arlong's crew.
After Fisher Tiger's Death it's clear Arlong was going to kill everyone in Koala's village (and no doubt would have killed Koala). He was stopped and put in Impel Down--a notoriously hellish prison (run by humans). It's not clear how long he was there, but probably at least a few months, which is a long time in a place like that.
After his pardon he leaves Jinbe and the Grand Line. Presumably he started taking over villages pretty soon after.
Now, what I find interesting is that this is by far the most justified Arlong is in his hate of humans, yet it's also the nicest we ever see him being to them. Before Fisher Tiger's death and reveal of being a slave, or his time in Impel Down Arlong hated humans because of things that although affected him were not things he himself suffered.
Arlong was never a slave, and at least Hachi, Chew and Kurobi were also never slaves. They were all orphans and this might have been the fault of human pirates who attacked Fish-Men Island, but we don't know that for sure, and it's never brought up as a grievance of theirs. They know Fish-men and mermaids are taken as slaves and they surely get racist treatment from the visiting humans, but they don't have first hand experience with human cruelty--like slavery or murder.
Not until Fisher Tiger is killed for helping a human girl go home after being a slave do they experience real loss due to humans. From there, Arlong is captured and imprisoned in Impel Down where he was surely treated terrible by humans during his time there (given they treat everyone bad there). Yet, despite saying he's the anger of the fish-men he does not actually kill nearly as many humans as you'd think, given how he acts in the past.
In fact in a lot of ways he seems to try not to kill humans if he can get away with other methods of control instead.
Tumblr media
This is when he takes over Nami's village. This is not long after Fisher Tiger's death which Arlong wanted to kill an entire village for. Yet, now, despite a huge uprising happening, with nearly the entire village of humans trying to attack them, he's not going for the kill.
Tumblr media
This is him probably less then a year before the panel above. He's furious and saying he embodies the rage of all Fish-Men. Yet he arrives to the village and tells his crew not to kill anyone despite their open hostility.
Yes, he wants money because he (supposedly) wants to take over the East Blue(world?) but he's already got his money and killing a few villagers should be no big deal--he plans on taking over more anyway.
In the end though, he does only kill Bell-mere due to her lack of money. She makes a good example, of course, but he was more then willing to let her live, despite her shoving a gun in his mouth before she used the money for Nami and her sister.
This is a huge change in a short amount of time.
Tumblr media
This is another time he and his crew don't kill for zero reason. They have been attacked all day by members of Luffy's crew. Zoro absolutely beat the shit out of his guys earlier that day. He was furious when Usopp dared to fire on him (to the point of flipping a damn house) but now they just leave two strangers (so not cash cows) alive? Usopp--was worth Arlong's anger, but suddenly two other random humans doing the same thing aren't worth killing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is how he responds to Zoro being what I would assume is racist given what Arlong says. He does not know who this guy is--Zoro was found tied to a boat and just brought to him and his first words are racist. Yet, Arlong lets it 'slide once'. Again this is the guy who hit a child for no reason except she was human way before he lost Fisher Tiger or went to the human torture prison. Yet now he's putting up with a stranger calling him racist names?
Going back to Usopp, this is how furious Arlong was when he was attacked:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's so furious that for a moment he's willing to destroy one of his money making villages, right after losing one not to long ago, just to kill one human guy who didn't actually hurt him, nor are they a rebelling villager.
Yet this is how he acts once Usopp gets caught.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is after he comes back to Arlong Park to find most of his crew beaten to a pulp by Zoro. He flipped a house he was so pissed off at Usopp, ready to destroy an entire village that he gets good money from (and which he needs to keep Nami around) but suddenly after his crew is hurt he's not in the mood for killing Usopp ASAP?!
Also, he was only in Nami's village because he saw Genzo had a weapon. He thought the village was going to rebel like the last one and he wanted to nip it in the bud and kill Genzo before it got to far. That was the only reason he was there and yet, after Usopp makes him absolutely furious he and Kurobi leave Genzo alive.
Flashback Arlong, who was barely held back by Fisher Tiger would never have left any of these humans alive. They were in his eyes disrespectful, not fearing him like he wants, and most did not give him money--the only benefit he sees to keeping humans around. Yet, he lets all of them live--maybe he has plans to kill them later, but again, past Arlong would kill them ASAP.
I know that the most likely reason for this is because Oda didn't have everything with Arlong and Jinbe's past in his brain at this point (there's ten years or more between these parts in the story). Not only that he can't have important people like Usopp and Zoro being killed off. He also seemed less willing to kill characters off in the start of the manga, which is why Genzo and Zoro's friends lived (killing Genzo would also have been way to mean to Nami).
But from an in character perspective you could see this as Arlong being affected by Fisher Tiger's words of not killing humans. No, he can't fully follow that rule, let alone Fisher Tiger's orders to not treat humans badly. Arlong has hated humans for far to long, and he was barely managing to restrain himself for Fisher Tiger despite respecting/caring for the man with his whole heart.
He can't not kill humans or treat them like crap--but he can come up with excuses that limit how many he kills. A 'well, if they pay me, they can live', or a 'they're to weak to kill so I won't', or 'I'll give this guy a warning for insulting me before I kill him'.
He lets his crew drag him away from Nami's village because he doesn't really want to destroy it (for monetary gain not kindness obviously). Kurobi doesn't kill Genzo because he wasn't told to so he lets him off, despite that being the only reason they came in the first place (despite defiantly knowing killing him wouldn't get him in trouble and is Arlong's intention). That gives Arlong time to calm down and by the time Usopp is caught he's more willing to take the time to ask him what he's doing there and then let Nami deal with him.
Part of it might also be Arlong knowing Jinbe will come kick his ass as soon as he finds out he's been killing/terrifying humans. He can bribe the Marines, but only to a point. If he was slaughtering every human that looked at him wrong or said something racist he'd be to much of a threat for higher-up the Marines to ignore. Eventually they'd tell Jinbe to deal with him and Jinbe would. Arlong would know that and given he was beaten easily by Jinbe he also knows he'd lose immediately (and either be killed or sent back to Impel Down).
Either way, he's showing some restraint even though he doesn't have someone like Fisher Tiger, or Jinbe directly telling him to. For whatever reason Arlong is way more willing to keep humans alive if he can come up with an excuse for it. Which I find kind of fascinating and adds some depth to his character that I don't think was necessarily intentional, but is the strength of the writing that Oda was able to add something years down the line that somehow didn't conflict with what's already established.

♡ Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get? ♡
♡ Rudie is very affectionate, mostly because it soothes her anxiety and she gets pretty extreme about it. She'll dig her nails into you if you even slightly move while she's holding you even if you've been sitting there for a few hours. Any attempt to stop cuddling makes her more anxious and when she's anxious, she needs to hold you to calm her down. ♡
♡ Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling? ♡
♡ Well she's a serial killer so if she's willing to kill for no reason, why would she stop when she has a real reason to do so. She's also not afraid to do it in front of you like the others are. She wants you to know how dedicated she is to you and she hates when you get upset about the blood because it's a gift so you should cherish it. ♡
♡ Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them? ♡
♡ She doesn't mock you except for on accident. She might do it without realizing, not realizing how devastated you are as she tells you about her day, she doesn't realize that you're sad that you aren't allowed to go outside anymore. So so much accidentally flaunt her freedom in front of you but she doesn't mean to tease you. ♡
♡ Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will? ♡
♡ She forces you to pretend that you love her, it's really better to go along with it cause when she has her breakdowns it's not pretty. She might force you to cook dinner or breakfast for her when she has to be out of the house for awhile but that's not super strict and if you really don't want to do it then you don't have to, but it will lessen her anxiety and make her less prone to fits so pick your poison. ♡
♡ Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling? ♡
♡ I mean you see her have anxiety attacks daily and she confesses her greatest fears about losing you all the time so I would say she's pretty open. Even when she's happy she's shaky so you can always tell what she's feeling. She's not very vulnerable about why she's a serial killer with you though cause she'd like to hide her dark past. ♡
♡ Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back? ♡
♡ She'd be extremely upset and might accidentally hurt her darling as she flings things around the apartment in a rage. She doesn't really seem to grasp the concept that you physically can not leave the apartment so it's not like you could ever escape her. She pleads with you to stay and to stop being so cruel not realizing you can't leave no matter how much you fight back, she's not very bright. ♡
♡ Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape? ♡
♡ This is not a game and it pisses her off if she thinks for a split second that you are treating this like a game. She hates the hard to get bullshit, you need to be nice to her or she'll throw a tantrum. She knows you love her so why can't you just admit it and stop trying to escape her grasp, it's never going to work and can't you see she's already dedicated to you fully so there's no need to play hard to get, just stop it! ♡
♡ Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them? ♡
♡ There are lots of bad experiences with her. If you ever manage to fight her off and try to run towards the door though then your entire apartment would be trashed, you'd have to hide in the closet and wait for her to be done smashing everything because at this point you can't soothe her, it's way too dangerous to try to get closer to her. ♡
♡ Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling? ♡
♡ She doesn't really have big plans for the future other than being with her darling forever so whatever you want in the future as long as it doesn't mean controlling you less, she's down for. She would sort of like to get married but really as long as you two are together it's not a big rush. Though she might loosen up a bit if you marry her cause now you're doublely bound. ♡
♡ Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope? ♡
♡ Yes, she lashes out all the time about fictional scenarios she made up in her head. She's jealous if you watch TV and she thinks you might like a character, it's best to make sure you're talking to her the entire time you watch the show so she knows you're attention is still on her. ♡
♡ Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling? ♡
♡ She's sweet when you're sweet and as long as you're very careful not to trigger her anxiety she'll seem just like a very clingy sweet girl. She's very affectionate and is always doing whatever you ask her to because if she's doing things for you then you're paying attention to her. ♡
♡ Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling? ♡
♡ She's not super smooth, if she doesn't immediately kidnap you then her method of courting will be to make herself known in your life by visiting you every day until you have positive feelings towards her before she kidnaps you. She's not going to ask you out and if you ask her out then she'll take it as a signal to kidnap you quicker. ♡
♡ Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else? ♡
♡ No, she doesn't bother to hide how unhinged she is in public or with you. She's quiet in public but most people still are very unnerved around her and can tell she's a bit of a weirdo and they can tell that she's very angry most of the time since she's not good at hiding it. ♡
♡ Naughty: How would they punish their darling? ♡
♡ Now she's not doing this to punish you but it works as a punishment because you're terrified the entire time her fits are occurring and it does make you hesitate before you do anything similar again in the future. ♡
♡ Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling? ♡
♡ Pretty much all of your rights are gone the moment she lays eyes on you, she'll allow you to do hobbies in her apartment and will allow you internet with special mate restrictions on the wifi. ♡
♡ Patience: How patient are they with their darling? ♡
♡ Clearly not very patient based on how quick she is to throw a fit if she even considers you don't love her. She thinks she's actually very patient but she really isn't. ♡
♡ Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on? ♡
♡ She'd drop dead the moment she hears you died. She'd probably feel it beforehand but once it's confirmed, she's dead. Otherwise she'll keep looking in the city forever because there's no way for a human to leave the city without permission from The Boss. ♡
♡ Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go? ♡
♡ Not at all, why would she ever need to feel guilt? She might feel sad if she abducted you without courting you a little bit but would do it again in a heartbeat. ♡
♡ Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)? ♡
♡ Being a supernatural makes you automatically possessive but a large influence was how she grew up killing and stealing in order to have enough to live which made her very lonely and the concept of a soulmate meant she wouldn't be lonely anymore. ♡
♡ Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves? ♡
♡ She'd make it her own problem, sorry you can't have time to cry cause the moment you cry and if you don't rush to comfort her things are going to get much worse. She's not trying to manipulate you, her feelings are just all over the fucking place. ♡
♡ Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere? ♡
♡ She's actually a pretty classic yandere except a tad bit more delusional. ♡
♡ Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape? ♡
♡ You might be able to sneak away if she's having a freak out at the moment. though you won't get very far before she's chasing you down the streets like a maniac, honestly that's probably the closest she comes to hurting you on purpose before she calms herself and remembers she loves you too much to hurt you like that. ♡
♡ Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling? ♡
♡ Yes 100%, if you get in the way of her temper tantrums then she will absolutely accidentally hurt you. She's way more likely to do it on accident than on purpose though, she doesn't know her own strength, she's not the type to break bones. ♡
♡ Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over? ♡
♡ She'll go kind of far to win you over but only if you're behaving yourself and giving into her love, you have to give her a chance otherwise she's barely putting in effort, instead she's just clinging to you and hopping it works. ♡
♡ Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap? ♡
♡ Day of. Yanderes have unique rights to kidnap their soulmates in the city although she doesn't think of it as kidnapping, still she'll take full advantage of that law to take you as soon as she lays eyes on you. She might be convinced to wait if you're in a place where she can see you every day, like a coffee shop, and try to woo you but if she's worried she might not see you again, she'll just snatch you up. ♡
♡ Zenith: Would they ever break their darling? ♡
♡ It's very likely, she's not exactly gentle and if you fight too much or are someone who likes freedom then her behavior could very easily break you and the worst part is she might not even realize she's broken you because she's just so happy you lost that silly fight, though eventually she will realize you're not the same anymore but at that point the damage is done. ♡

Beau is Afraid is the movie I have been waiting for
!Spoilers Ahead! *LONG POST*
TW: Child Abuse, Gaslighting, Narcissistic Abuse, Strangulation, Discussions of Severe Anxiety
Like many people I knew Ari Aster as the guy who made Hereditary and Midsommar. Weird and trauma focused horror and that is definitely what Beau is Afraid is classified as, but it is nothing like his previous films.
To summarize, Beau is afraid starts off with Beau meeting his therapist (well it literally starts with Beau being born but i digress) and here we learn that Beau has a severe and crippling anxiety disorder. From the moment Beau starts talking about his mother I knew exactly what this movie was going to be about(though i don’t think anyone could guess the plot). We see that he is planning to visit his mother the next day because it’s the anniversary of his fathers death. Due to unforeseen circumstances Beau oversleeps and as he is rushing his keys get stolen out of his door along with his suitcase. Beau calls to tell his mom just wanting to tell her what’s happened and as she began to speak I got immediately triggered. You can see him sink into a shell of himself as she tries to make him feel guilty for thinking he should stay at home since someone has access to his apartment. She hangs up on him and Beau begins to lose it a little bit.
A lot of things domino fall and this leads to Beau getting locked out of his apartment (this also leads to the first time we see Beau experience something i’ve never seen so perfectly portrayed in a film. executive dysfunction. and it happens multiple times, he simply freezes in place even though he knows he should move. Part of it is definitely his anxiety as he is afraid to move because thats a decision and he doesn’t want the responsibility of what comes after a decision)and learning that his mother was killed by a falling chandelier. Then we see him get hit by a car. He ends up in the care of a family and long story short he has to run from them and ends up in the woods with a theatre troupe.
Tumblr media
This is important because we learn that Beau’s biggest dream is to simply have a job and home of his own with a family that loves him. That’s his perfect future, but even as he’s seeing it playing out his kind can’t help but conjure up the worst case scenarios. We also see it repeated here that Beau can’t have kids because he can’t have sex because of a genetic heart murmur that killed his father. After Beau is separated from the theatre troupe he makes his way to his mothers house(though he should have been healing after being hit by a car and being stabbed his ONLY CONCERN was his mother not being humiliated by not being buried). When he sees her body he isn’t at peace yet but he lays down and gets his first night of good rest in days. When he wakes up he is greeted with his old friend Elaine who asked him to wait for her and he did. Long story short, Beau and her have sex. He is under the direct impression he is going to die when this happens.
But he doesn’t. However, Elaine does. He is rightfully terrified and cowers in fear until the music Elaine was playing suddenly shuts off and he looks up to find none other than his mother staring back at him. She faked her death to get him home and then tries to turn this on Beau saying he couldn’t wait for her to die, when Beau admits he knew she was alive because of the birthmark on the hands on the body. But she’s not done. Out of the shadows steps Beau’s therapist as his mother begins playing a recording of one of his sessions where Beau admits reluctantly that he felt his mothers love was conditional. Since he feels like he has nothing to lose he chooses to finally confront his mother about the dream he has where he sees an identical version of himself ask about his father because Beau isn’t brave enough and he asks where his father is.
His mother takes him to the attic from the dream and tells him to go up there telling him it wasn’t a dream, it was a memory. There Beau meets his twin brother and his father(it’s a lot more batshit than this but that’s the gist of it). He begs to go back down and his mother finally lets him and he LITERALLY KISSES HER LEGS telling her he’s sorry. But she’s still not done. She goes on a whole tirade about how her mother blamed her for her mothers mistakes completely missing how she’s doing the same to Beau. She continues to berate him until she finally says what she means. She hates Beau. And at that point Beau puts his hands around her throat, strangling her. He eventually comes to his senses and lets her go, shocked at his own actions, but the damage has been done, she collapses and dies.
Beau leaves the house the look of shock frozen on his face and he reaches a motorboat on his mothers private little beach. He starts the motor and begins to drive the boat towards a cavern. For the first time the whole movie Beau seems like he might no longer be afraid. Until the motor mysteriously sputters and here’s where shit gets VERY REAL. SERIOUSLY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE GO WATCH IT BEFORE CONTINUING.
Tumblr media
Beau is sitting in darkness for a few seconds and suddenly this cavern is flooded with light and he sees no, it’s not actually a cavern at all. It’s a stadium filled with people. They are all watching him. Through his (and the audiences) confusion a voice booms from a microphone. When Beau finds the source he is shocked to see that it is coming from a man on a mini stage high in the stadium sitting next to his mother. From a giant 4 sided jumbotron video plays of moments from Beau’s life dating back to when he was NINE. YEARS. OLD. All of of which is taken out of context. Beau’s only “defense” is a shitty lawyer who has yell because he wasn’t given a microphone and even when he is heard and things his lawyer says are reasonable his mothers lawyer simply writes it off and moves onto the next thing he’s “done wrong”. (To me this represents all of the times Beau tried to reason with his mother and make her see his side before he just had to succumb to her will for survival, because you can’t reason with a narcissist.) When his defense is literally thrown from his stage and dies on a steep rock Beau is left to defend himself. Through his anxiety and fear he still tries to make them see his side, but Beau is found to be guilty. He never really loved his mother, he was a manipulative child who took from her and never gave anything back.
As this is all coming to a close the motor on the boat begins to flame and the boat begins to sink. Beau is begging, pleading, screaming, for his mother as she watches him in distress. As the entire arena of people watches him struggling and does nothing. We can see the exact moment Beau succumbs to his fate, he says nothing and for the first time in the whole film his shoulders droop. All of his anxiety is gone. He knows his mother won’t help him, that no one will. And the look that crosses his face is one I understood so deeply. One of anger that he dedicated his life to this woman, one of realization that he couldn’t trust anyone, one of sadness that he was truly alone. And I relate to that so deeply.
I remember people talking about the relationship between Joy and Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All at Once and while I definitely relate to their story somewhat there was something missing and I didn’t know what it was until I saw Beau is Afraid.
On the one hand there’s the constant twisting of Beau’s actions that is particularly triggering to me. Him living in one of his mothers apartment buildings and using a card with her money is turned on him when for one thing the apartment is shitty and he is constantly in fear for his life. Number 2 the card was given to him by her to use, because Beau is literally agoraphobic because of HER ACTIONS. He can’t hold down a job even if he wanted to. His whole life is his therapist and his home. I find it so strange that mothers like this will stifle any interest their child has that falls outside of what they want for them and literally block them from opportunities to advance, but then get upset when their kids aren’t able to function on their own as adults.
Tumblr media
But that’s not the main thing that stuck out to me and made me realize I had been carrying this massive weight with me I couldn’t explain.
This ever present fear I felt living with my mother that just never left. This feeling that she was always watching me even when I wasn’t with her and that I couldn’t trust anyone because they would turn them against me eventually. That I couldn’t say bad things about her because the words would find their way back to her. When I was actively going to therapy I would triple check my phone to make sure I didn’t accidentally dial her and she could every word I was saying. That’s how terrifying it feels and I’ve never seen that captured on screen. Tears were streaming down my face as I watched Beau’s cries be ignored and as people just let him die. In the silence of the theater I simply stared at the place Beau had been and thought “you have to leave, you have to get out.”
!End of Spoilers!
It’s a great movie and I think you should definitely go see it if you have 3 hours to spare. I’ve personally seen it twice and I relate so much to Beau it’s kinda scary. Sorry for this long post I wonder what anyone who saw it thinks though, i’d like to hear new perspectives. Now time to watch Queen Charlotte for something lighter 😭

(Milgram self-insert oc masterpost hehe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: For the sake of posting online I’ll call her Rose!
Color: #E7355B [the pink in the art]
Age: I guess she’d be 20 given when Milgram started huh.
Status: Milgram Staff, Machine Technician
Symbols/imagery: ballet/musical theater, science experiments
Song genre: very similar to Mahiru's, something upbeat and extra pop-y
Tentatively she's number 011? She's not really prisoner but she's also not free to come and go, so I'm not actually sure if she'd get a number (Edit: I've decided she'll actually be 012. Staff is given the 01X range, and even though Es doesn't actively have a number they'd be staff member 011, making her 012.)
Story: Since the project is supposed to be realistic/present day, the mv machine would be brand new and unpredictable tech, so they’d want someone keeping up on maintenance and making sure the brain-invasive process won’t cause any harm to the prisoners. Rose was studying abroad in Japan working on some cool neuroscience tech (irl I know nothing about technology or brains but shh) and she stumbled upon some secret tech/plans from Milgram. Long story short, she was dragged into the experiment to make sure things ran smoothly.
Writer's Reasoning: She’s really fun for me to play around with, as she allows me to work with a character who has a tiny bit of pull over Es’ mindset in conversation but not the final decision (aka mirroring the voting system), and someone who is simultaneously trapped in the prison but has a reason to see all the canon content.* I really enjoy the character interactions and dynamics Milgram has set up so far, so it’s been super fun seeing how things change for better and worse when someone not quite aligned with either Milgram/the prisoners is thrown into the mix!
*As much as I love dramatic irony in fiction, it would drive me crazy if I knew every detail of of the vds/mvs but Rose didn't – and every single Milgram character is The Worst Communicator Ever so I couldn’t justify that she’d hear it secondhand from them...
Story roles:
She’s a bit conflicted -- she’s officially Milgram staff and knows she should remain neutral on the prisoners, since she won’t be allowed to interfere with the process/executions. At the same time, her job description is literally “make sure the machine doesn't hurt them and everyone's safe :)” and she's way too emotional to avoid getting hopelessly attached to everyone 😅
I really enjoy the theory that the machine extracts videos based off of priming, so one of Rose’s duties involves listening in on the interrogation and making sure there’s been enough material discussed/not too much time has passed overall (hence the ringing of the bell happening at different lengths for each vd -- That's her ringing it :3). She then watches the mvs along with Es to make sure there are no machine glitches, and know how to calibrate it better for next time.
(IEdit: I've since decided to add in official trial mvs, but before when I wasn't ready to tackle that:) She has to run some tests on the machine to make sure things are calibrated correctly, so she'd extract little things here and there. It gives me the opportunity to think up lyric snippets and recurring symbols for her without worrying about full encompassing music videos.
I'm not afraid to admit she can fall into Mary Sue territory every so often by being everyone's friend, because it's less about "aw everyone likes her" and more about "canon is too painful rn and I need a fix-it tool to take care of these guys and give them hugs and tell them someone forgives them and cares about them and unfortunately these characters wouldn't let anyone less than a friend do that." Rest assured she's definitely not perfect and will fuck everything up on occasion :3
Miscellaneous: Whenever I play around with normal au ideas she's still working on the machine (but in a public, more ethical setting), and she's Mahiru's roommate :) Her character isn't super focused on love, but if I had to pick a cover song it'd be Stickybug II. It's very much my vibe, the lyrics fit well enough (better than most songs, at least lol) and it's one of my favorites out of my limited knowledge of unchosen Deco songs! (Edit, I've actually given her non-deco cover songs hehe)
So yeah, I hope she's not too boring without a cool crime to decipher, but I wanted to share since I was really proud of her! It took a bit of tinkering to find a way to fit her into a perfect secret-third-thing role that runs very smoothly with all of canon, so I was very excited!

Note
alright. i'm gonna put real arguments in the actual polls as they come out but this is so fun and i can't stop thinking about it so here's my preliminary tier list:
S Tier Team 11 - The Actual Goddamn Grim Reaper isn't going to bother with the backwards spellcasting.
A Tier Team 2 - Imagine trying to deal with a full power New God while a speedster is setting stupid Home Alone traps and throat punching you whenever you let your guard down. Team 4 - Wild card! Best case Talia hits everyone with a laser while Tim tanks the hits and Etrigan cleans up anyone vulnerable to magic, worst case Khaji and Talia wrangle for control in the corner and Harley is also there. Team 8 - Silly doesn't mean stupid. This is a group of guys who are used to being wildly outmatched, and two powerhouses using their abilities creatively plus an illusionist running interference makes for a hell of a team.
B Tier Team 5 - Superbarda will have to singlehandedly wrestle a lot of these teams. I believe in her. Team 7 - Jason's pretty good with a sword, and while Roy doesn't have experience with powers, it's not like Hawk's abilities require that much finesse. Team 12 - Incredibly high potential, but Diana won't actually use her Grim Reaper powers because she's not going to murder her opponents, and Hank and Orion make each other so much dumber. Team 14 - Having a Flash should put them higher, but there's a solid chance the Brain slips on the ice and concusses himself.
C Tier Team 8 - Billy is used to being a flying brick. Scott has access to all his gear. Dick is in a body that can do a quadruple flip. They don't have the power of some of the other teams but they know what they're doing. Team 13 - Lantern ring + light manipulation + Cassbats has a lot of potential for pulling off underdog victories if they have time to plan, but none of them have enhanced durability if it goes wrong. Team 16 - A dog in the body of a man with explosion powers is not a good teammate.
D Tier Team 1 - Bart gets injured falling off a horse before the round even starts and they spend the whole tournament as close as possible to fighting each other as the rules allow. Team 6 - I just don't think they've got the power to win many fights via beatdown, or the synergy and versatility to set up something better. Sorry guys, but someone has to be the most underwhelming. Team 15 - If Clark can communicate the word Shazam to Jon, then they're in business. However, he's a dog, and Azrael melodrama is extremely distracting.
F Tier Team 3 - At least Greg and Sir Justin get to hang out. Team 10 - Three guys having a terrible time.
Passing along!
Also, laughing at your team 3 commentary because i was also like wow even rng knows theyre a package deal do not separate.
