shawn dating a brown girl pt 1 - language

this concept has been on my mind for so long as a pakistani american. i love learning about my loved one’s cultures and i started wondering what that would look like with shawn but uhhhh didn’t have the motivation or energy to put it into an actual fic lol so i think im just gonna do a bunch of bullet point lists about the concept. so yeah idk here are my rambling thoughts about speaking urdu (or whatever language u speak) around shawn

he knows ur bilingual but it doesnt come up for a while

but a few dates in finally does

maybe he overhears a phone call with your family

or he hears a song in ur car that he really likes but cant understand

(you translate it for him and he quickly stops paying attention to the meaning bc he just wants to listen to you)

but after that he starts to pick up on things more

he strains to hear your voice when you take a call from your mom in the other room and he loves the way you blend the two languages together so naturally

he loves it so much that one time he even asks you to talk dirty to him in bed. in urdu.

and you have to stop whatever you’re doing because you’re laughing so hard ur crying

and he cant figure out why because he thinks it sounds hot but all you can hear is your mom and dad and fobby cousins and every auntie you’ve ever met because no matter how beautiful the language is, you just cant make it sound sexy

maybe its the internalized racism but thats besides the point

he should probably feel embarrassed by you laughing in his face with his dick in ur hand but honestly it’s pretty funny to him too

you finally start teaching him a few words here and there

it starts with food terms because to this day you still sometimes have to ask your mom what the english word for dhanya (coriander lmfao) is no matter how good of a cook and an english speaker u are

his favorite thing tho is once you’ve gotten really comfortable around him, ur urdu starts slipping into every day interactions

(not like “oh i forget to switch sometimes ha ha ha #bilingual” bc it really aint like that yall smh)

but like

a “kya?” (what?) or “hain?” (huh?) or “ya Allah, ek minute!” (god, one minute!) here and there (because that’s what’s natural to you and you have faith in his ability to figure out context clues)

and when he’s upset and you reach for him asking “kya hua?” (what happened?) while pulling his head to your chest, he immediately feels safe

but also when you’re annoyed with him you’ve taken to calling him “ullu ka pattha” 

and “colonizer”

he has to ask your best friend what the first one means and they laugh at him (literally translates to “son of an owl” but it basically means fool or idiot)

the second one just makes him give you a Look but like. he can’t really fight you on it. 

sometimes you’ll call him “laddoo” (its a dessert lol) or “jaanu” (darling or my love i guess??) and you’re obviously teasing but he goes full baby mode he loves that overly sweet shit

he goes off and looks up terms of endearment too and you’ll never tell him but hearing his gora ass call you “meri jaan” (my love, my life, my heart, etc) kinda does make your heart skip a beat

of course he’s a huge cheese ball and learns how to say “main tum se pyaar karta hoon” (I love you)

you definitely laugh at him. but you say it right back.

Little Things with Shawn

a/n: out of all the bp’s I’ve done (not that many lol), I gotta say this one is my favorite!

He doesn’t fail to kiss you on the forehead before he leaves, no matter how late he’s running.

Squeezes your thigh in the car whenever one of your favorite songs plays cause he knows you like it and wants you to know that he knows because Shawn

He’ll ALWAYS squeeze just a tiny bit tighter at the end of a hug

He’ll always make sure to call you (at odd times in the day or night because timezones) and leave a voicemail saying that he misses you and loves you

He’d also text pictures of things that remind him of you when he’s touring.

Like your favorite tea or a cute puppy he saw on the way to the venue

When laying in bed Shawn would slip his hand under your shirt or something and rest it on your bare skin

Not because he wants to take it further, but because he wants to feel closer. To feel the skin to skin contact.

More to give himself comfort to know that you’re really there in the flesh and not just through facetime.

Shawn would try to get out of bed as silently has he could so you don’t wake up

But because he’s clumsy he’d probably stub a toe, curse, and wake you up anyways

He’d point out an older couple holding hands while mentioning how cute they are and winking at you

Shawn would try to guess what perfume you’re wearing

And secretly hope that it’s the one he picked out for you

Shawn playing with your hair and attempting to braid it

Then getting his hand stuck and tangled in your hair.

And profusely apologizing and panicking while being so so gentle as he tries to untangle himself

“I’m so sorry honey, I didn’t know this would happen!”

“Aaliyah makes it look so easy though!”

“Are you okay??”

If you have hiccups, he’d go above and beyond to try to scare the hiccups out of you

Mainly because he thinks it’s funny

Whenever he’s out shopping he’d buy something small for you

Like a pen or a funny greeting card or cozy socks just because he thinks you’ll enjoy it

Shawn just staring at you and admiring

Then blushing and grinning sheepishly as you tease him for it

And giving you the sass back tenfold when he catches you staring at him

He’d wait until you get your food at a restaurant or something before eating, so you guys can start together

He’d give you the last cookie

Or give you a little bit more of the blanket when you’re cuddled up and watching a movie

Because he knows you’re always cold

Coincidentally texting each other at the same time

He’d rest your intertwined hands on his chest where his heart is

And you’d be able to feel how fast his heart is beating

Because no matter how long you guys have been together, you still make his heart beat faster.

when out in public he would always hold your hand

Him showing off his already “great” salsa moves the whole morning.

“Babe look my hips don’t lie.” 

“Shawn, that’s as close to salsa dancing as your singing.”

You constantly rolling your eyes at him and his sudden cocky self.

Him continuing with the excitement through the whole car ride. 

Panic finally hitting him as you arrive to the class and he sees all the other people

You asking him were did all that confidence suddenly go and him admitting that he didn’t realise there would be that many people in the same class.

Him being shy but extremely focused on learning the basic footwork with his brows furrowed and tongue peeking out of his mouth as he follows the instructions.

Him also peeking over his shoulder to look at the dude behind him whenever he doesn’t know the moves.

That fucking headband standing out in the mirror above everyone’s heads cos he is so damn tall. 

Him getting extremely embarrassed as the teacher uses him as an example and makes him do all the dance positions and footwork patterns. 

You giggling in the back, taking your phone out to film him as his cheeks turn bright red and you teasing him by shouting “Shawn what is the colour of a fire truck?” 

Him just giving you that tight lipped smile of his as it cannot get anymore embarrassing for him. 

After you have embarrassed him enough he wants to move to the back so no one can see him which is obviously bullshit cos his head is still above everyone else’s. 

Him constantly staring at you and biting his lip whenever there is a move that involves you shaking your hips and ass. 

Him constantly stepping on your feet and apologising as you finally get to dance together. 

Him grabbing your ass and looking at you with that proud ass smug plastered on his face while you look up to him and roll your eyes for the 50th time. 

The teacher calling him out for grabbing your ass by shouting him to keep his hand on your lower back instead of your bottom. 

His eyes going wide and cheeks turning bright red once again cos of the embarrassment. 

You looking at him with hungry eyes as he looks so hot with the headband on keeping them curls from falling onto his sweaty forehead. 

That sweaty look with those damn rosy cheeks of his making him look even more adorably attractive than usual.

Him finally getting into the dancing and you are both doing good with the footwork until he stumbles on his own long ass legs and almost falls over.

After the class him being extremely exhausted and sweaty.

“I have never been this glad about something being over in my life.” As he is wiping his face on a towel. 

You smiling and kissing him on the tip of his nose.

“Shawn you did good I’m so proud of you.” 

“Even though I kept stepping on your toes and stumbling on my own feet?” 

“Yes of course you dork. You are clumsy but in the most adorable way.” 

You two finally getting home via McDonald’s drive thru cos Shawn can’t wait to stuff his face with junk food after all that sweating during the dance class.

I truly believe some of successful celebrities r a big fan of BTS just like us or at the very least,have a big respect for BTS' talent for coming so far but r afraid admitting out loud so bc BTS is a very controversial group in ppl's eyes for sooo many reasons. He goes to your cabinet and finds most of his hoodies and flannels

You wear them when he’s away on tour because it smells like him; like a part of him is here

Bed feels so big without him

Deciding on what pet to get

You both decide to get a goldfish

You forget to feed it the first few days

He comes home tour and you just let him sleep it out. Doing his laundry and everything

You would always cook for him every time he comes home from tour

And you would just sit on his lap while he eats and he’s just so happy because he gets to taste a home cooked meal again

Making the bed together every morning
