That „Ty, Ty, Ty“ is just breaking my heart! But also: Cassie tagged the kickstarter, which means this is a new letter that definitely isn‘t part of SOBH, meaning it belongs to a different book!

Stick season by Noah Kahan is very KitTy!coded
i’ll dream each night of some version of you that i did not have, but i did not lose
and i’m split in half but that’ll have to do my other half was you
i hope this pains just passin’ through but i doubt it
now i’m stuck between my anger and the blame that i can’t face
and i am terrified of weather because i see you when it rains
and it’s half my fault but i just like to play the victim

I feel like one thing we can take away from this kickstarter is that Cassandra Clare will never be done with the Shadowhunters universe. like literally all these new short stories come from the fact she took a six month "break" from writing shadowhunters lmao

One plot thing from lone star that I don’t entirely get is that they’re complaining that 18 months is such a long wait? That’s about normal waiting time for a wedding surely? At least there’s time to plan, make sure people are actually free, and arrange the whole shebang. I get they want to be married and this is weird timeline telly world, but I don’t understand how having to plan a wedding in 8 weeks is better 😂
Hello Nonny! Sorry it's taken so long for me to get here. BUT...
TK meant what he said when he said EVERY MOMENT WE'RE NOT MARRIED IS A WASTED MOMENT.
He wants a wedding that is nice and has like PEOPLE, but he also doesn't want to wait a YEAR AND A HALF. Do you know how many times TK nearly dies in a year and a half? He can't wait that long. He might be dead.
He won't actually be dead, but like...with the track record of parents on this show who knows who'll make it to the wedding. He won't waste time, and 18 months as fiances is too long for TK.
It's not an unreasonable time for normal people, but TK has never been normal. So...
His one track mind for the wedding is hilarious though. Cant eat carbs, have a wedding suit. Dad has a motorcycle - don't crash and ruin my wedding. Carlos has a wife...we've just gotta get him divorced because I am not delaying my wedding! Carlos is missing, gonna take Carlos's detective skills I've gained through osmosis and find my fiance, because we have a wedding to plan.
And Carlos wants TK to be happy, so TK is going to get what TK wants. He's not having pouting at the wedding.

when clary fray says "you're in love with jace" and alec lightwood cleverly comes back with "you're in love with jace" vs. when gillian asks starsky "you love him too, don't you?" and starsky dodges the question by just being silent in response........ cinematic parallels.

Only ten days till the Seasons of Shadowhunters Kickstarter goes live! I wanted to give you a peek at our first gorgeous cover designed by Jenny Zemanak. I love all the little details — the silver band, the flask. We are already at work designing the next three and of course all four books will come in a matching slipcase with art designed by Jenny. I can’t wait!

As someone who likes a lot of "bad" media, or media that starts out kinda slow but builds into a bigger plot over time, I see so many different opinions on what bits are "okay" to skip in order to get to the good part, and it's just wild to me. Bouncing around between the highlights doesn't actually give you the experience, and filler is so important when it comes to just...creating a vibe and building up the relationships between characters and with the audience.
For instance, Red vs Blue is probably my favorite show (ever, of all time), and while I will admit that the first five seasons are not my favorite, I still think they're essential to the show, because those five years of relatively low stakes adventures set the tone so that it can be upset by the bigger plot points. The impact of a big twist is reduced if you haven't spent the time to get invested in these characters when they're just hanging out and being silly. Most importantly though, even once the plot really gets going in season six and we get into the more serious Freelancer and Chorus arcs, Red vs Blue is still fundamentally about a bunch of idiots standing around and talking. If you have to force yourself to put up with the majority of the show, then you might just not like this show.
I was talking about this with my friend, and they said it's kinda the same thing with Homestuck. Yes, it does get "better" as time goes on, but it's still the same thing it's always been, and if that's not something you enjoy then skipping to the bits you do like won't change what it is.
Or like, I freaking love The Order of the Stick, and last year I reread it from the beginning for the first time in a while, and I half convinced myself that I'd just made up how good it is (because volume one is funny enough but nothing to write home about). However, I hit a certain point where I realized that I wasn't just reading out of a sense of obligation but because I adore these characters and am unspeakably invested in this plot. You can really tell that it's been a story happening over the course of 20+ years, you can see the writing and art improve dramatically as time goes on. I could just recommend that someone start with volume two or three, and summarize the plot up till then so they don't feel lost. However! That would rob them of the experience you get from watching these characters grow. You can't fully appreciate Belkar's arc in volume six if you didn't see what he was like on day one, y'know?
On another note, I love the Shadowhunters Chronicles, and I know that a lot of people will give The Mortal Instruments shit and call it the worst series or whatever, but those people just hate fun. Yeah, there are other series that might have stronger plots and better writing, but there's a reason that TMI's main characters have been iconic for years. Sometimes, things are just silly, and if you don't like that then you're not gonna have a good time here.
I could go on! I also like a lot of episodic shows like MASH, Community, Tangled: the Series, the whole DC animated universe, Supernatural, etc. I could come up with lists of my favorite episodes to try to hook somebody, but all of those episodes lose a lot of their impact when taken out of context. Skipping the filler doesn't give you the ultimate experience of Only The Best, it takes away your chance to fully spend time with these characters in a variety of settings. And sure, lots of shows with multiple writers do have some episodes that are just bad, but that's not what I'm talking about. There's a difference between something being bad and something being low-stakes. Maybe you personally don't enjoy things that are low-stakes, but that might just mean you shouldn't be watching a sitcom.
So yeah, this has been an excuse for me to rant about things I enjoy for a while but I'm sorta out of time and need to eat lunch, so I suppose this post has reached its conclusion. All my favorite media are my favorite for reasons I couldn't articulate in an elevator pitch, and putting together a highlight reel will never substitute for truly being in the trenches. If you're truly having a good time with something then you won't need to skip to the good part, because the whole thing is enjoyable.

i know a lot of people worry about iwtv being canceled because of low ratings. idk maybe i'm delusional but i don't think it will be. i'm not an expert on the tv industry, but these are just some thoughts i have on it.
i think people look at companies like netflix and hbo under david zaslav as a model, but amc is not the same and has shown in the past to keep shows going even if initially they are not mega successful (e.g. breaking bad only started getting major attention in s3). amc still works more like a traditional network than other companies do, and they don't tend to cancel things immediately because they do not have the same glut of content that e.g. netflix does.
amc has invested a lot of money and attention into building "the immortal universe" and even if the ratings aren't high, iwtv is still the one with the highest name recognition (the movie is still pretty well known) and far more critically acclaimed than the mayfair witches. they have emphasized over and over again that they are trying to build this into their next big thing for their company akin to the walking dead, so giving up after 2 seasons on the biggest show in that universe's roster would not really fit with that, especially as they're already building more shows out of this (e.g. talamasca). everything they have said is that they believe in this universe they're building and are willing to invest in it. this is from the variety article on mark johnson, one of the producers:
Tumblr media
then, there is also a precedent from other networks (who are not primarily streamers but more traditional cable networks) keeping shows going despite bad ratings, e.g. crazy ex-girlfriend had the actual lowest ratings on tv for multiple seasons and still got 4 seasons because it was one of the cw's most critically acclaimed and only awarded shows next to jane the virgin. this does show that sometimes networks will keep a show going because of what it means for their network rather than just the bottom line. what i think also helps is that amc owns the rights to the books and is the studio producing the show. there have been cases in the past where shows got canceled mostly because it was just no longer profitable/advantageous for the network to keep a show from a different studio or vice versa (e.g. shadowhunters allegedly only got canceled because it was split between three companies and netflix pulled its funding and the others were not willing to put up the rest of the money for it).
overall, i understand why people are concerned about the ratings, although i also want to point out that we do not have access to how the show is doing on amc+ as far as i know, so we don't have the full picture of how it's performing. however, i have a good feeling about the s3 renewal (i know some people are speculating that we'll get a tvl show instead of a third season which i really hope is not the case because that's a marketing disaster to me).

So I'm confused. Description of one of Cassie's upcoming novels from Season of Shadowhunters Kickstarter says:
Tumblr media
What does it mean though?👀 I mean, Kickstarter is called "Shadowhunters" which implies that every novel should be about Shadowhunters right? Like, okay, one of the novels is about them, set in a TSC world, I got it.
WHAT ABOUT THREE OTHERS? WHAT ARE THEY ABOUT?! AUSTRIA? POLITICAL CONTROVERSIES IN THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST?
Please explain guys, I'm stupid and confused

Malec Promptlet: Pole Dancing Alec
Though most Shadowhunters patrol only in teams until sixteen, Alec is still months from his thirteenth birthday when Maryse sends him out alone for the first time. It's a small area with no reports of demonic activity, but the order still raises eyebrows among even the seasoned hunters who recognize the political mess Maryse is clearly planning to dump in her son's lap as soon as he comes to his minor majority. Alec knows what Maryse is doing too, but he still takes the patrol as serious as though there had been reports of demonic activity. Which is why he's stalking across the rooftop of a mundane strip club when he sees a group of men harassing three women in the alley. Alec hesitates because not interfering in mundane affairs has been drilled into his head by Maryse almost since he could speak, but the moment one of the men moves to actually hit one of the women, Alec jumps down in fury. It's barely a minute's work to take down the aggressors. The three dancers don't let Alec run off and, over a cup of thank-you-coffee, Alec somehow ends up making the first friends he's ever had outside of his younger siblings. Over the next few years, Alec ends up being introduced to a whole host of other dancers both through his new friends and because Alec sometimes sees them being harassed on the streets and he obviously Does Not Allow That in his territory.
(They obviously adopt the random scary-child who runs off anyone even hinting at being impolite to them.)
Alec gets to know them and finds out how insanely in shape they all are and asks them to teach him some of their routines (and he ends up trading them lessons in self-defense and stabbing rude assholes in turn). His siblings never find out that Alec becomes amazingly proficient in pole dancing and when Jace complains about his own routines not producing the same results as Alec's, Alec just smirks.
Alec has never really ... shown off, per se, his skills in front of anyone before because he really appreciates the artistry and the strength it requires, but also views it as kind of ... private - just something he shares with his mundane dancer friends.
Then he meets Magnus.
Yeah, let's just say that when Alec asks Magnus to conjure a pole in the living room of the loft one night, Magnus is thrilled, but he’s honestly expecting just a (very) fun evening of messing around and being silly with each other.
Right up until Alec casually lifts himself up with one hand on the pole until he's nearly perpendicular with the floor and Magnus sits himself down, abruptly, as Alec starts to dance for him.

I seriously don’t understand Underhill and why he suddenly has a foul attitude towards Alec and Magnus. when he arrives or when we first see him, he goes on and on how he’s thankful for men like Alec and how he can come out now. how it’s sooooo cool that he’s dating a warlock while being head of the institute and dude even has the audacity to flirt with Alec. (I think he’s flirting) he literally has no issue with it and then we jump to towards the middle of season three where Magnus is staying at the institute
so i get it’s frowned upon or whatever but it’s not anyone’s business who Alec dates or lives with. the shadowhunters there are so prejudiced and hateful over who Alec is with. Alec states he doesn’t want a war with the vampires and underhill is all like “oh now he wants things done by the book.” even has the nerve to say to Magnus’s face how it’s not custom for him to permanently live there. BRO THATS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I think it would’ve been cool if they had other downworlders staying there. I know it’s the shadowhunters safe space but Magnus isn’t harming anyone
I think it’s weird that he goes from “I want to thank you alec” to shading him behind his back. also why did they ruin his hair 😭 it’s even more ironic that he ends up with Lorenzo, another high warlock. you did all that just to end up similar to Alec? boy bye 💀
I don’t know if he’s mad that Alec didn’t flirt back with him or what (as if Malec would cheat on each other.) his problem is but it really just made me lowkey not want his character around. I remember when people really thought alec and Magnus would cheat on each other. Dot tries to kiss Magnus and underhill is clearly flirting with alec. Magnus says “I’m a one soul kind of guy” tossing bisexual stereotypes aside, while alec literally goes on and on about how much he adores Magnus. THEY WOULD NEVER BE TOXIC
I’m sorry but I feel underhill’s character arc is so weird. does he want alec? does he hate having a downworlder around? I thought he was better than that. I just don’t get what they were going for lmao

Dunno if you like fantasy shows, but Shadowhunters can pass some time. It's kind of a mess, but Alec and Magnus actually end up together! It's only three seasons but it's over 50 episodes. The Malec fandom is still pretty active on AO3 too.
Tumblr media
oh i watched shadowhunters when it came out! me and my friend loved it but she loved the books more sgshdg
