I’ve tried several panty patterns and the Keep It Brief from Rockerbye Destash is definitely my favorite (so far). The fit is perfect and coverage is good for everyday wear. The liner is a realistic size and the pattern includes instructions for adding a padded liner (period panties). I made a pair for lifting that are leak-proof 🤩, but this latest pair features a regular liner.

My mom thinks it's weird that I sew in my underwear sometimes. (I do this when something about my clothes was bothering me because I have the skills to fix them so they stop bothering me and most of the time I'm shirtless or pantsless for less than 2 hours). I don't think it's weird.
To be fair it's a bit risky when you live with people who don't want to see you in your underwear. Today I was in the basement in my boxers mending my pants and my housemate opened the basement door to come investigate the beeping fire alarm we couldn't locate and I had to be like "hey don't come down here I'm in my underwear" cuz while I don't mind if he sees me in my boxers, he minds if he sees me in my boxers. But that's literally the first time this has happened in the 4 years I've lived here.

This thing is hard to photograph, but here she is! My corset cover, made from patterns from the 1910s, but made to work with my 1890s wardrobe.
I jumped head first into lacemaking one evening in February(!) and ended up in this project that took Four (4) months, with healthy breaks in between of course. I'm happy with the outcome and very pleased to be learning new skills, this time with Irish crochet.
Now I have to make a corset to cover!

It is done and it is glorious!
This is a 1901 skirt for a promenade dress with added lace. I still have lace left over, so I may go back and add even more...

What I’m manifesting for Frenchie and Kimiko in season 5 of The Boys
Frenchie and Kimiko casually sharing clothes. His sweatshirts are huge on her but she loves them.
A scene where Kimiko paints his nails at the office while all sorts of serious discussions are happening around them
M.M. teasing Frenchie for being a wife guy but not-so-secretly really happy for his friend
Only one episode at most where they are separated because a little yearning hurts so good
A tearful reunion. He cups her face in his hands as he kisses her.
The knowing smiles on the rest of The Boys’ faces because they’ve all been shipping them too
Kimiko rips off Cate’s face. Bye bitch.
And Little Nina too. This is a side quest that she never tells Frenchie about. She comes home with Kirkland Signature whiskey to celebrate.
Frenchie’s shock and delight when he discovers that Kimiko can speak
But they still sign sometimes
And they think they’re being slick when they sign the filthiest things to each other around The Boys but literally everyone can tell
The first time they make love it will be the most romantic, tender, emotional shit you ever saw
That awed, slightly open-mouth thing he does when he sees her naked for the first time
She runs her hands all over his scars
A forehead kiss the morning after
The next time the fuck they are absolutely feral for each other
When he undresses, she’s surprised to find he has so many weapons stashed all over his body, including a knife in his underwear
Full frontal Frenchie! (As an actor, I think it would be an incredibly brave choice for Tomer Capone, don’t you agree?)
And the 🍑 too
More scenes of their domestic life
Kimiko asking Annie for advice about how not to break their fragile human boyfriends during sex
Frenchie continuing to have hair because it’s really working for him and he has gorgeous curls
And it’s something for Kimiko to hold on to
The two of them on a beach in Marseille

sick and tired of seeing people use zip ties for boning. listen to me i am a costume designer stop using plastic which does not hold your shape (the whole point of boning) you do not need to buy proper coiled boning or anything: go to a hardware store and find flat metal tension spring (google tells me that's what it's called, unfortunately i also don't know what its used for in hardware store related things so i cant describe it if that isnt the correct translation, soz) you can get a roll of 15m x 4mm tension spring for about 15 euros where i live and then you just have to cut it with metal shears (you can use a regular cutting pliers probably but if you have metal shears you will be happier) then either file down the edges a bit if you're genuinely gonna wear it a lot, or you just wind some tape around the edges to make sure putting them in the channels isn't gonna rip your fabric and anyway now you have an actually functional boned garment. go to a hardware store and show them this pic btw:
Tumblr media
^ this is what you want. also bc this is 4mm wide around stress points like closures you want to make 2 channels right alongside each other and put in 2 pieces of tension spring for stability

It is time. For XigGoat.
Since Luxu's animal association is a goat, I decided that for my partner @catboygirljoker's birthday I'd sew up a little plushie of Xigbar's... goatsona? Goat furry Xigbar. Yes.
Pattern is by CholyKnight on Etsy (HIGHLY recommend their patterns, super easy to follow and customizable!!)
I had to make his coat functional because what is the point of a doll if not to play dress up. The plush itself is made of fleece with cotton applique.
Photos were staged and taken by Blake, please appreciate how lovely they are. Also luxu's slutty little pose with his coat open was her idea. Mwah.

Another Keep It Brief sewn up. One can never have too many well-fitting comfortable undies. This was made from a shirt I don’t ever wear.

Finally finished up the undies I cut out. Now I can move onto something else
I think I’m going to dig into the rib knit and make some stuff for the warmer weather which I’m sure is going to show up any day now …. Any day now…
Baby yoda is bamboo lycra with cotton lyrca for the bands
Bear is bamboo lyrca from rockerbye with yarn dyed stripes for the bands- which is an awful choose it’s looks good but has no recovery but the waistband is lined with cotton lyrca so it’s only the legs that will suffer. I could add some elastic but whatever it’s good enough. Might have to pick some wedgies but I can deal
Grey is bambo lycra from shear madness. I made these high rise to try out and I really shouldn’t have the medium rise is kinda high already. Oh well
The witchy ones are cotton lyrca from dark matter which is a light cotton lyrca with light cotton lycra from tkb for the bands. I got the bands fabric in a mystery box and didn’t think I’d find a use for them because it’s so bright but they go perfect with this fun witchy fabric. This is absolutely my favorite pair out of all the ones I’ve sewn recently

So one fun part about the next two projects (which'll be sewn with my non-dominant hand until my thumb stops hurting) is that I'll basically be comparing/contrasting two very similar garments from the holy roman empire
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are dated around the mid-15th century, one found in the Tyrol region of Austria and the other more associated with the Nuremberg bathhouses, but both are generally discussed as supportive garments.
I want to compare the bathhouse dress against the support of the lengberg bra, my existing supportive shift, and bras, because while I see this discussed among the various options for supportive shifts, im not entirely sure it should be classified as one.
Materials arrive Wednesday

if I had a nickel for every time either I or my brother-in-arms was in only 18th century underclothes while fixing our breeches in the passenger seat on the way to a reenactment I would have two nickels which is not a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice

I saw this late 19th century corset in the collections of the Castle of Turku, Finland, and wanted to share it with all of you! I paid specific attention to the corsets as my goal is to finally make one this year.
This one specifically caught my attention because of those laces at the top. Not much information was available in the plaque, but looking at the placement of the laces, it's probably a maternity corset! Very cool and interesting if that is the case.

But this mattress is new, was expensive, and damn it it's gonna last! Technique entirely from watching that one video month back of Cathy Hay mending a poncho for a friend. Is it good? No. Will it last? It better fucking do! Am i happy with it? Heck yeah! Kinda want to mend more things now to get better at this!
