Songs for the Planet Earth, a Steven Universe fan album we’ve been working on for a year, is finally out!

Inspired by the Cartoon Network show Steven Universe, this is a passion project by 18 musicians and 10 artists in tribute to this groundbreaking series.

Check out the diverse and breathtaking (honestly) talent of the SU fan community and enjoy it with us at the album livestream! A recording will be made available too.

Playlist on shuffle meme

The rules: put your whole music collection on shuffle and pick the first ten songs.

Using Spotify, which will definitely underrepresent the Japanese songs I have lol. I’m also gonna make this fun and tell you the story of how I discovered each song (also I cheated and removed the ones without a story lol, I’m sure it’s more fun this way).

1. Owl City - Hot Air Balloon

August 2009, I was at home, and my sis was really excited about a new song that was playing on the radio (Fireflies by Owl City), so she called me upstairs to listen to it. I loved it instantly, it felt different from anything else I’d ever heard. Went through all of Owl City’s music in the following month; this song was another of my early faves.

2. Vienna Teng - Goodnight New York

There was this Lyricstuck based on Landsailor by Vienna Teng going around back in 2014. (I found it) The combo of images and music really got to me and I went and found the album the song was from. My first listen of that album, which I did in the attic while doing this painting, will always stick with me. It was the first album I ever bought. Goodnight New York is actually one of my less liked songs on the album.

3. Vienna Teng - Lullabye for a Stormy Night

OK so Vienna Teng right? Earlier this year I found out that @irlpinkiepie also knows her; I'd only listened to 3 of her albums, not including this one. Anyway she did a real nice cover of this song, which she sent it to me because we’d been talking about Vienna Teng recently. I liked it so much I went and found that album and added it to my playlist immediately.

4. Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

OK who didn’t listen to this song when it came out back in 2012 though. Realistically, probably lots of people, but yeah the video started popping up everywhere on Facebook, so I listened to it then.

5. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You

Early 2012 I first heard Call Me Maybe on the radio and instantly fell for it. A few months later, it went viral, and then Carly Rae Jepsen collabed with Owl City, and she became one of my new favourite artists. I subbed to her on every single social media platform, so I saw the whole lead up to the release of this song. It’s fun but not actually a big fave.

6. Celtic Woman - Orinoco Flow

My dad bought Celtic Woman: A New Journey in 2007 and it basically became my favourite album that he owned. This was one of my favourite songs on it and I’ve just always had it on my playlists in one way or other ever since, starting from when I ripped it from the album.

7. Red Velvet - 빨간 맛 (Red Flavor)

One day @serialsymphony said he was trying to understand the appeal of K-pop, so we both found and listened to a K-pop playlist. This was an immediate fave when it came up.

8. CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share (Alucard Session)

Back in 2015 I heard Leave a Trace by CHVRCHES in a mall in a town in Massachusetts with a good friend while we were Christmas shopping. I came to associate her voice and her entire discography with that moment. I found this song among her tracks and it’s now my favourite of hers.

9. Carly Rae Jepsen - Turn Me Up

I told the front part of how I got into CRJ above. Anyway her sound was so much my thing, I stared following her everywhere and I listened to her first album in 2012 (Kiss) the day it came out. This one was one of the songs I liked more on that album.

10. Taylor Swift - So It Goes...

OK so Taylor Swift played on the radio a lot, and as questionable as some lyrics are, they were catchy in a way I really enjoyed, so she became a fave artist. I put off listening to Reputation a whole month because of all the negativity surrounding it, but one day curiosity got the better of me and...it was actually kinda good. Some of my favourite songs by her are on it. This is one of the better ones, to me personally.

How about Redglare?

Redglare is my second favorite ancestor hands down, she’s awesome.

1. Teal Justice, by Will Ascenzo - An amazing reworking of Will’s original Teal Hunter.

2. JUST1C3 R41NS FROM 4BOV3, by SerialSymphony and Circlejourney - I’ll admit I’m still familiarizing myself with Ancstral, but this one is definitely a standout.

3. The Demise of Neophyte Redglare at the Hands of the Unruly Mob, by Serial Symphony - As I said, still familiarizing with Ancestral, but I just listened to this one and it is an amazing remix of Terezi’s Theme.

4. R3DGL4R3, by Kalibration - The more harpsichord, the better I always say.

5. White Angel, by Will Ascenzo - I assume this is a track for Pyralspite but it’s another badass rendition of Teal Hunter.

Runners up: all of her other Ancestral tracks probably.
