I'm HCing Serenthia as Also being a descendant of Lilith + Rathma etc.

In such a small village there's a good chance she and the brothers share blood at some point down the line.

Hello!

For Rathma, nostalgic and loved. I could not decide wich one to be the main emotion.

Watching the Edyrem go about their business, Rathma was reminded, not for the first time, of his best friend.

Serenthia and Esu could never meet; they would either tear one another apart, or become some great unstoppable force the likes of which Sanctuary could not recover from.Or at the very least, make a big mess that he’d have to clean up. Again.

Despite being human, Serenthia acted so much like the other nephalem at times that Rathma was sure there had to be some distant relation that he’d missed. Hell, there were even times when he forgot he wasn’t talking to Esu. That she was sequestered miles away, biding her time and protecting her clan.

Times like these, when he was surrounded by humans who were as alike to him as they were different, he really did miss her, and the rest of their ragtag friend group.

It would not be worth it to ask for their company and expose them. Nothing short of the end of the world would be worth that. But for once, he allowed himself to remember, and hope for the company of his kindred once more.

No one who had met both Rathma and Esu would ever guess that they were thicker than thieves (and It had been great fun introducing Bul-Kathos to this fact. The giant had thought himself mad, and then thought the two of them mad). They were practically opposites in every way. Maybe that was why they were so close with one another. Even since they were small, and Sanctuary was a kinder place, the two of them had done everything together. They had grown up together. Harassed Bul’Kathos together. Laughed and cried, loved and lost.

Here and now, with the potential apocalypse looming up ahead, Rathma very much longed for her presence once more. There were many things he feared to face on his own, and most of those things that Esu simply laughed and threw a fireball at.

Then again, letting her throw a fireball at Tyrael was probably not a good idea.

For now, he would simply watch over the Edyrem, and the memories of days gone past would have to be enough.

A conversation you wish had happened in canon

“You.”

Rathma stopped up short, cloak fluttering about him. He did not sigh, but did feel rather resigned.

“You’re the one that brought him back.” 

Serenthia strode up behind him, the confidence of a soldier in her gait. Around them the Edyrem continued on, a few giving them curious-wary looks as they passed. 

He turned to half-face her, wary of the warrior-woman’s words. At no point had he regretted what had happened to Achillios, but he also wasn’t sure how she felt about her lover being raised from the dead. If she were angry…well, Rathma had seen how powerful she had become. Serenthia easily rivaled Uldyssian at times. 

He might have to make a hasty teleport.

Instead of speaking of any of this, Rathma tilted his head slightly. “I did not. I only influenced the situation.”

Serenthia stopped before him, rested her spear on the ground, smiled doggedly. “You’re the reason Mendeln is…becoming what he is. He follows in your footsteps. For better or worse, you have dragged him into the realm of dead things.” She shrugged a shoulder. “Or whatever it is you call it.”

“I have only done as the Balance willed.” Rathma offered. He still wasn’t sure how this conversation would go. “That includes my influence upon Mendeln.”

Waving a hand as if to dismiss this, Serenthia forged on. “As you say. Maybe you weren’t the one to bury the body, but you are the one responsible for bringing Achillios back. Without that…without him…”

Rathma turned more completely to face Serenthia. He hadn’t given her much thought before - only insofar as much as she might need to be sacrificed to be rid of his mother, and that she was the strongest of Uldyssian’s followers. If the man ever perished, she would take up the fight. While it pleased him that she had not died, he could admit that her struggles, wants and desires had been rather inconsequential to him. 

Sighing through his nose, Rathma spoke. “Make no mistake; Achillios’s resurrection was an event we judged necessary for Sanctuary’s survival. No more. No less.” He tipped his head, studied Serenthia’s face. “But…if this has brought you some form of comfort, then I am glad for it.” 

Even if he did find the relationship a little too macabre and strange. 

Serenthia’s smile was sharp and painful. “It may not be as I want it - not even close - but I am pleased to have more time with him.”
