Shang Qinghua is one of the SV characters I can most relate to purely in terms of also being a writer. I know that a lot of the stuff I want to write won’t end up being super popular (a romance with a purposefully unsexy vampire? a story between an m/f best friend pair with a really deep emotional bond and no romance? come on) and publishing is a nightmare anyway. But the difference is that I don’t plan to make a living off my writing. Poor SQH does. So if he wants to do fun things like pay his bills and eat food every day, he has to pander to the big audience.

He’s written other things that weren’t PIDW. Things that weren’t trashy stallion novels. Things he might’ve had a passion for and put his heart into. No dice. So PIDW it is and my god I can’t imagine how annoying and frustrating it is that the one work that you purposefully sold out on so you can, yknow, survive, is the only one that got big. It got really big. Really popular. That’s gotta be so fucking enraging. Imagine that, you think sitting down to write something you like is hard? Try to pump out a few thousand words of some crap you don’t even like every day, crap that you know had potential if following your actual ideas and plans for the characters would allow you to pay rent. Alas. The characters you lovingly crafted are watered down now. No one cares that you came up with a really compelling backstory for this one villain, he did bad things and he got murdered and that’s all anyone wanted to see. Not a real story, not something you put love into

In a way I think that’s partly why he and SQQ became friends. I’m a writer, we like feedback. We like to hear what people think of the things we write, even negative feedback can be appreciated. So if you have this one guy who reads everything, comments frequently, and (most important) can see how absolutely shitty this work of yours is? Someone that also sees the wasted potential of this story? Gotta be worth something.

went to a comic store today and saw individual issues of idw sonic in person for the first time ever btw . epic win

#not that ive never been to a comic shop before its just the only.one thats anywhere near me #is one i didnt know existed until like a year ago because its in a weird spot #and their hours are very incompatible with the days/times im actually able to go around shopping #and ive also been to other places that sell comics they just never hvae idw sonic #ANYWAYS i got to go today and they had sonic yayyy . and i also got an issue of monster high new scaremester #because ive really been wanting to read that one and havent been able to find it online like . at all. nobody is archiving that thing ....#i only got issue 2 though because they were out of issue 1 #and i didnt have a single chance to check for issue 1 when it came out. because of the previously mentioned scheduling curse #nervous that i actually spent money on it because idk if im even gonna like it #ive heard mixed reviews on it and the book that its a continuation of . but fuck it we ball #also if this store carries sonic idk how i never saw it before because i Have been a couple times in the past #maybe they just now started getting it recently?? or just happened to be out the last few times?? idk

CLAMP exhibition goodies came in the mail today! preordered as much as i could reasonably afford at the time but there was still quite a bit i wanted but didn't get lol. very happy with the midnight chocolate cake? mug. the blind bags are reused art which i usually don't reach for but the art is incredible and they had a BIG range for characters and illustrations for them so i was rly hoping for a lot of variety. they're rly high quality and cute but i got a dupe within 5 pulls and didn't get a single meki (or other character for that matter 😭) which is a shame cause non watanuki or yuuko characters tend to get fuckall and the resale market for holic goods is a bit fucked cause most of it is limited edition from events and stuff. if i see anyone selling them cheap later i want to acquire lots of mekis and to acquire merch of more characters in general tbh but that's a financial task for later. anyway themmmmmm ~

The placement is temporary (probably) but I finally decided to put up my Hanako-kun and Haruaki poster celebrating their 100th chapters!

Found a used copy of The Hobbit that had been annotated by a kid named Justin for what seems like an english class assignment, and it’s lead to my most enjoyable read-through of the story.

I’ve been adding my own thoughts and trying to engage with Justin’s notes a bit and it really has helped me. I love that we’re doing this together. No idea where or who you are kid but thanks for the book! I’ll take good care of it!

hey y'all, anyone have any good stress relief tehniques or habits they'd like to share cuz I've been more stressed in the last 3 weeks then I was in the last 6 months

#to cut the long story short my mom had to sell the old house cuz her broke ass couldnt afford to keep it up #eventho it is a whole ass hoarders house and was in shambles with a flooded basement a collapsing ceiling in at least 2 rooms plus mold #and the stench a dirt and dog piss and shit all over the floor really made it worse then it was #but yeah so shes been staying with me and my grandma and its been awful #she hasnt been taking any of the medicine the doctors gave her when she snapped and started a fight and also started screaming at neighbour #so shes been terrorizing us here while the house has become her second hoarders den since she dragged so much crap here #my backyard side entrance and front porch are full of her shit and my grandma hates it since she can barely step into the house #so since she kept looking for places way out of her budget i had to go do house hunting since my useless sister is busy getting lit again #so ive been showing her shit in her price range that was under 420k cuz im not a moron who looks at 800k homes when i have 570k #and each time she has a new complaint saying its too expenive or its too small or its too old when she said she wants to do renovations #but shes saying she wants to renovate a newly renovated place instead of an old one #so i just showed her a house near my sisters uni and she liked the inside & backyard but she complained that 400k for newly renovated 3 bed #that is literally a 9 minute drive from my sisters uni is too expensive when shes the one who was looking at an old ass unrenovated bungalo #that is a street over from us that is 800k and she says it looks like garbage cuz an old lady previously owned it before dying #like no shit it looks old cuz older people lived those decades and like it and she just keeps doing her bullshit again & again #cuz when i tell you her mind is gone i mean it is GONE and she starts up all these wild stories to just explain some shit #like something goes missing? the neighbours are hungarian and stole it and left the hoard of junk in her old house #she has more stupid stories to harass and stress us out with but if im gonna share that ill have to write a book about it cuz fuck #and you know its bad when no one else can stand being in any contact with her cuz she starts screaming at people about it #so the only one who even likes her anymore is my sister and thats cuz shes deep in denial about just how insane she is & how abusive she is #so yeah i need some stress relief help that maybe isnt constantly hitting up maryjane cuz i dont do weed often especially since shes here #cuz weed 'burns your brain & makes you crazy like this' when shes the only one whos ever infuriated me to astronimical levels #i know retail therapy helped before she came here but i dont want to keep spending money i dont really have #it would be great tho but shes refusing to give me the 70k she said was mine from the house sale so i can cut her out for good

Binging VNAs that have Benny in them in order and hoping I'll soon get to one I actually own a physical copy of soon is such a feeling.

#i'm reading those regenerated ebooks and let me tell you some are great but some are from obviously bad scans #transit especially in the second half is near unreadable because 'corner' was often 'comer' and a characters name was often misspelled #i'm reading ones with big finish adaptations too so i can see what's different #but i want to read paper and ink #provided said book is in good condition and not about to fall apart on me #except for human nature that has a narrated audio book and i own it but like lisa bowerman to much #unfortunately audible's audio quality is often... bad #either unbalanced or too faint or fuzzy with quiet white noise #she and paul cornell would've been better off with somebody else #big finish or anything really #it made big bang generation and at childhoods end much worse to sit through but at least i hear there's a score and real character acting #and i'm not even an audiophile #but books that are out of print and only available to buy there deserve better #not just the ones they know will sell #anyway rant over

making a spreadsheet to catalog all the books i own and all the books i want and like. im using goodreads to look through an author's books to make sure I've gotten all parts of a series listed. and this one specific author just has a picrew icon i recognize the picrew its from--
