Update on this: I added some lavender essential oils to mine and tea tree oils to my partner's, it works AMAZING at keeping mosquitoes away and soothing the various scratches and bumps I get covered in.
I didn't realize how well it was working until my partner accidentally knocked the rest of my mini batch over and I had to go a week without it - I got covered in bites over a few days.
I want it more solid at room temperature so I'm adding another 3 cups of beef tallow to the main batch, and taking the opportunity to steep some more healing herbs into it - rose petals, mallow root, mullein leaves and root, Calendula flowers, self-heal; then some more fennel peppermint and spearmint for smell.
It smells amazing, I'll post pics once it's ready to be filtered and jarred
Making anti-mosquito lotion with herbs & "weeds" from my garden
For good smells & repellant:
Lavender flowers & leaves
Lemon balm leaves
Garden thyme leaves
Garden sage leaves
Fennel leaves
Rosemary leaves
Mint and Peppermint leaves
Chives
For soothing existing bites:
Dock leaves and roots
Cannabis roots
Calendula flowers
Using beef tallow (bc I just finished rendering and purifying some) w olive oil as a carrier, but I'd like to add some beeswax in the future
