this is a lil silly and sappy but i think i am really glad i chose not to try and figure a way to participate in the calendiles secret santa this year and instead acted as administrator, simply because it is so absurdly meaningful to see how many people contributed without me being as fandom-present due to real life factors! this would not have been an event with so many heartfelt and excited participants like five years back, and the fact that this is my third year running this thing is soooooo :') like kind of exactly what i needed right now specifically. to know that giles and jenny are doing really great and we're all contributing to that as a society.

it also caught me so off guard in episode 1 in particular that the crew clearly knew how much izzy was doing to protect them from ed?? no one's saying it out loud because it won't help but the hug, and the whole scene surrounding it, says they've all quietly been paying attention and worrying about him behind his back and it was a culmination of weeks and months of living like they were while knowing that izzy was bending over backwards to absorb as much of ed's rage and heartbreak and anger as possible in order to shield the rest of them??? help??

Akatsuki no Yona's greatest yet most underrated strength: foreshadowing
I don't see anyone discussing this, but Akatsuki no Yona has insanely good foreshadowing, like on par with Attack on Titan levels. You only realize after a re-read. The hidden easter eggs, unopened pandora's boxes, lines of dialogue or actions that were Chekhov's guns...
It's like reading a mystery novel with the prophecy, Zeno's underlying insanity, Suwon's intentions and leadership, the political intrigues, Yona and Suwon being foils, Hak and Suwon's broken brotherhood, the commentaries about King Il's leadership, religion vs atheism, the separation of church and state, Yona's future-seeing powers, debates of free will vs fate, violence vs pacifism, moral dilemmas, personal wishes vs greater good, the pitfalls of war, etc. etc. it's so rich and meticulously put together.
There were signs that Suwon was terminally ill and blood-related to Hiryuu (his appearance, his love for people, his dialogues about rushing his coronation and being willing to die later, his mother being sick, etc.). There were signs that Zeno was going to betray the group ("i didn't approach her at first because i was testing her. i admit it wasn't very nice.", or "I will have my wish granted at the end of my journey, even if it goes against the gods") It goes right under your nose. Yet you can see that potential in their characters, their dialogues, their actions. It makes sense.
Even now there are great scenes will only make complete sense after they are recontextualized.
It's not why I heard the manga was good, but it's why I read. You could really tell that the author had an idea of where she wanted to take the way and knows how it would end.
We just don't know it yet.

okay like it was cute and all but s3 I need carmen to step up and actually keep the promise he made about being there for sydney. like I need her to be mad at him. to feel some type of way about his ditching her. then I need to see him try. like desperately try to make it up to her. carmy needs to be that guy doing too much. she wants a star? ok he’s gonna die on that line if he has to. AND, and this is important, she’s gonna go on a date. with who the fuck knows. because she’s beautiful and desirable and not just like, his. and she’ll confide in him about feeling nervous and she’ll try to talk herself out of it but carmy. carmy will have to be a good friend this time. carmy will encourage her to go. he will tell her he’ll cover for her during service and to have fun because she deserves to have a life outside the kitchen. then we get a scene where syd leaves out the back with her stuff and carmy just stares at the door after her.

last last year I put up a big fake spider in the tree in our front yard (we don’t typically do holiday decorations) and everyone completely forgot to take it down, so it stayed there for over two years or so.
eventually it became a fact of life. I’d introduce him to my friends— “oh, that’s Jeff, he’s been up there since last year.” he was a light grey-beige, too, so he blended in very well with the tree’s bark. sometimes it was like he wasn’t even there. and as long as Jeff was in that tree, we never had to take down or put up any Halloween decor, so it worked out well.
come Christmastime (well, after it, really) my dad told me to hang some big ornaments on the tree. i joked, “why don’t we just leave them up there like we did Jeff? then our tree will be festive all year.” but my dad did me one better: he suggested that, after the season passed, we took off all of the ornaments but one, and continually added more and more decorations to the tree for each holiday.
now to me this sounded absolutely hilarious, so of course, i agreed. i expected the ornaments to be whatever we could find in the garage or whip up in a couple hours, but to my surprise, as the holidays passed i kept coming home to more and more of them on the tree. dad had gone through the trouble of ordering them and hanging them up himself. he was a lot more into the joke than i thought he’d be.
now we’ve got a whole fleet of Easter eggs, a comically tiny shamrock, a heart, a large blue bauble, and one giant spider on our tree, and i could not be more excited for the next holiday. next year I’ll be able to look outside with pride at our All Hallow’s Tree, laden with decorations, and thank Jeff for all his service.

I’m gonna have to accept my brain may always be soup at this point. But it beats feeling tortured all the time?
Anyway, pointless tattoo plotting. For myself. I don’t think it’s wise to consider what is basically an upper arm sleeve for my first, but it’s fantasy land if it’s just in the sketchbook and honestly? Anything to kick at the art block.
It’s all birds: blue Jay and Baltimore oriole, with fresh spring green ash leaves and an autumnal red oak. And maybe a hexagon in there somewhere, I can’t sort that out.
Anyway, this would encapsulate a lot of my favorite things in one go. All that’s missing is bugs! And a loon and pines, but that’s going on the other arm!
Maybe it’s futile to say this, but this humble scribble is for my use only.
