Some years ago a lady brought to the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh a trout covered with a fine coat of white fur. It was pleasingly mounted on a wooden shield and was labelled as follows:
FUR BEARING TROUT Very Rare Caught while trolling in Lake Superior off Gros Cap, Near Sault Ste. Marie, district of Algoma. It is believed that the great depth and the extreme penetrating coldness of the water in which these fish live has caused them to grow their dense coat of (usually) white fur. Mounted by ROSS C. JOBE, Taxidermist of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Visiting the museum to find out more about her unique fish, the lady was told that it was undoubtedly a trout (either brown or brook) and that its fine white coat was undoubtedly from a rabbit, whereupon she immediately presented the fish to the museum. She had bought this fake in good faith which indicates that the idea of a fur-bearing trout did not seem outlandish to her.

Like most of his friends, Algy loved flowers, but there were very few flowers left in his assistants' garden now. In fact there had been a dearth of flowers all summer, owing to the everlasting rain and exceptionally cold weather. Only the hydrangeas and hollyhocks had flowered well, and for months the fuchsia bush, which in past years had been glorious, just sat there and sulked. But then, when it was very nearly autumn, it decided to make a wee bit of effort before it was too late…
Seeing the jolly flowers dancing on their stems, Algy fluttered over to watch them more closely, doing his best not to crush any of their scarlet petals. As they skipped about around him, he remembered a sweet wee rhyme for children from the Flower Fairies books:
Fuchsia is a dancer Dancing on her toes, Clad in red and purple, By a cottage wall; Sometimes in a greenhouse, In frilly white and rose, Dressed in her best for the fairies’ evening ball!
[Algy is quoting the Fuchsia Fairy rhyme from the Alphabet Fairies series for children by the ever popular creator of the Flower Fairies, the English 20th century illustrator Cicely Mary Barker.]

Forever imagining 20something Michael and David in a (gay, let's be honest) club in the late '90s and Michael spotting David dancing to "Spice Up Your Life" and being completely enraptured at the sight...

The Public Triangle West Port.
A short walk from my flat despite council attempts to close them, the three lap dancing bars in the pic remain part of Edinburghs attractions at least for the many stag parties that descend on the city every weekend.
I suppose the area has always had a bit of an unsavoury reputation, The serial killers Burke & Hare lived here, they murdered 16 people over a 10 month period, selling the bodies to the University of Edinburghs medical school, they became known as The West Port Murders.
I have to add I don't frequent them!

Those who have long been with me know that 6 (!!!) years ago I already created a cartoon with Jamie Fraser dancing Scottish Sword Dance. The time later we saw a Highland Fling by Sam Heughan and Jamie Fraser in the show. So, I thought, OK, now it will be Fling by Jamie Fraser. 😁😉 Enjoy the dance!

Algy had flown a considerable distance on the previous day, aided by the calm weather and the late autumn sunshine. He had swept far across the wide, open moorland, up and over the tops of barren rocky ridges, then down again into narrow, forbidding glens that were lost in deep shadow as the day drew to a close. But none of those places seemed to offer what he was looking for, so he flew on… and on… and on…
Finally, just as it was becoming urgent to seek a safe perch for the night, Algy had spied a wide stretch of woodland across a strath, shimmering mauve and misty blue in the gloaming as the first bright stars began to appear in the unusually clear sky. Intrigued, he dropped down to find a tree in which to sleep. But by the time that he had settled onto a comfortable branch near the edge of the wood, it was too dark to see much at all, as the moon had shrunk to a tiny wee wisp of a crescent, and the stars, although beautiful to contemplate, provided very little light.
Exhausted from his long flight, Algy quickly fell asleep, and slumbered well into the following morning, with his magic pumpkin tucked under his wing. But as the sun rose higher in the sky, he opened his eyes, fluffed up his feathers, and hopped down to the ground to recline more comfortably as he surveyed his new surroundings.
The woodland around him was aglow with surprisingly bright colours, and alive with the gentle rustlings of invisible creatures, and the sky above the sunlit branches looked remarkably blue. It all felt pleasantly warm and friendly and welcoming, but nevertheless strange and somehow out of the ordinary, and although there had been no "monstrous moon" to illuminate the night, Algy began to wonder just what he had happened upon in the twilight of the day before:
Somewhere in magic mystery, Beyond the hills, Are diamond dells, Asleep; Encircled by a silver sea, Whose wavelets croon melodiously, With intonation deep. By day a mellow radiance spreads, And rosy drifts The wood and cliffs Empearl. A monstrous moon illumes the night, And sheds a tide of purple light Full on the drowsy world.
[Algy is quoting the first two verses of the poem The Dance of the Fairies by the early 20th century American poet Robert Elliott Gonzales.]
