School of All Time Tournament

Let's make fictional learning institutions fight!

After 851 submissions and 347 total schools, submissions are now officially closed. The bracket rounds will consist of 256 schools (divided into either four brackets of 64 or eight brackets of 32). All schools that got two or more submissions are guaranteed a place in the bracket rounds.

Schools that got only one submission will have to go through qualifying rounds to get to the brackets. There are 215 schools with only one nomination, and 124 available spots in the bracket. Following the qualifiers, schools will be seeded according to the number of submissions they received.

Qualifying rounds will commence soon. In the meantime, happy Shavuot to my fellow Jews!

Rules:

You can submit any and all fictional schools or universities. Magic schools are certainly eligible and encouraged (though nothing Harry Potter related) but so are normal ass public schools, community colleges, etc.

The schools must be fictional. No real schools and no fictionalized versions of real schools either. It's got to be fake. (Real life institutions come with real life baggage and politics the likes of which I would like to avoid in my silly tumblr tournament.)

The point of this tournament is not to judge the actual quality of the schools in question. Shitty schools are welcome and encouraged! We're treating the schools like our blorbos. Maybe you like the school because there's something deeply wrong with it. Maybe it's experienced a lot of trauma in its time. Maybe it's sitting on top of a hellmouth. So long as you feel the school is suitably iconic it is worth submitting.

It's got to be an educational institution of some kind. I'm willing to be broad in my definitions here, but not so broad that the institution in question is no longer, at it's core, a school.

Submit as many schools as you want but only submit each school once, you know the drill.

No school will be included automatically! Submit your school of choice no matter how popular or obscure it is!

Submissions will be open until May 24.

In the 1st book series I can have at least a little bit of respect and hope for Athena being a caring mother (as caring as the gods can be anyway).

But TV Athena? I wanna march straight up to Olympus and have a little....chat, with the Goddess of Wisdom about being a somewhat decent parent, possibility of being smited be damned.

I like both of these interpretations of Athena btw, even if TV Athena makes me want to commit a crime (preferably against her).

Hey guys, just wanted to say that I'm alive since I haven't been on here much recently, school just started last week lol. Hope y'all are alright, I'll try to get back into posting and checking on my moots, I just don't have as much time for that rn. Eleventh grade is wildddd, I've got a bit of an existential crisis since I've only got two years left at school and I dunno what to do with myself and whether I'll survive these years, but it's okay :D

Over here we split from our classes and start choosing subjects in 11th grade (though there are still a lot of rules at what we have to take). I've got English and Art as the main subjects, and German, Math, Chemistry, History, Geography, Latin, Music and Theatre for the rest. Well there's also PE, but we can choose to not count the grades into our report cards there.

I'm satisfied with most of the teachers I've got, except maybe our history teacher because she's a bit difficult personality-wise, but I also had some classes with her last year and I managed to get good towards the end, so I can keep up with her methods. Our German teacher is really awesome though, he's just such a goofy and dramatic guy and I've honestly never had such fun German classes in my life! He's also a Bowie fan, so that's a bonus :D Art class is a bit overwhelming though. It's not even the amount of theory we have to learn, but the amount of tasks our teacher throws at us, like during the lesson she gives us ten minutes to find several objects and make photos of them from different perspectives/use contrasts etc. (our topic is photography) and I just can't find something interesting in our school fast enough, and then we get another bunch of homework that we have to send to her in time and not just bring to the next lesson and we also have to make a portfolio, it's just a lot. But I'll get it, somehow. If I don't get good grades in art I'm just gonna be a failure.

The weather finally turned nice and rainy on Monday and I've also started getting into some 80s postpunk/new wave stuff, it just kinda fits the weather and my mood better. And I discovered Hedwig And The Angry Inch for myself recently, so I've got a new musical to obsess over. So that's what I've been doing ig :)

IT'S AN UNPLANNED VISIT TO HIS HUSBAND'S WORKPLACE. It's not what Garak expected he and Essan would do today, and Julian won't be expecting them, either, so he hopes his husband won't mind the interruption. They are making an appointment, after all. The receptionst tells Garak that Dr. Bashir will be available, if they're willing to wait twenty minutes. Garak checks with Essan, who has his face buried in Garak's neck and refuses to lift his head, and nods his agreement. "Thank you." He takes a seat to wait for their appointment with his husband. 

ESSAN HAS HURT HIS LEG. It's not an emergency, and he's fairly sure there are no broken bones, but he's brought Essan in anyway for more than one reason. Firstly, to reassure both himself and Essan, but also to help get their son used to the idea of being able to go to a doctor here. It's also a way to familiarise him with Julian's new workplace, even if it isn't quite the way they'd have chosen to do it.

ESSAN CRIES FOR THE WHOLE TWENTY MINUTES. It's not all from pain, Garak is quite certain. Essan had been playing with another boy his age, and when he fell, the other boy came close to him, to see if he was alright. On Cardassia, it would be dangerous to let someone come so close while weak or injured, because he'd be an easy target, so Essan had flinched back, afraid, which upset the other boy too. Garak thinks he's mostly crying because he's so upset about not fully understanding this new world he lives in yet. But some of it is probably pain, too. Essan's leg is bleeding and bruised where he landed on it. 

HE FINALLY LIFTS HIS HEAD AT JULIAN'S VOICE. There are tear tracks down his cheeks and his eyes are still wet, but as soon as he spots Julian, he reaches out for him. "Abba!" he cries.
