Imperial Space Hulks
So as far as i know these don’t exist. Due to their enormous size and creation in the warp, as well as the galaxy’s vast size, Space Hulks are typically occupied by Tyranids, Orks, and Nurglite or Khornate CSMs. Cleansing them is dangerous and difficult, but often profitable for archaeotech mining. What i would like to propose, is a Hulk repurposed by the Imperium as a fortress voidcraft. Creative liberties have been seized like toasters by the AdMech.
The Emperor’s Gift, 3.017 M42
It’s appearance in the Segmentum Solar was initially a call for massive mobilization of Imperial Navy assets. The Space Hulk was nigh unprecedented in size, and was headed straight for the world of Hermetica, and it’s orbiting Chaos Hulk Nightmare of Paradox. Initial scans of the new hulk returned unusual results.
The vast majority of its systems remained online, and almost the entire hulk was composed of Imperial craft long proclaimed lost to the Warp. Determined to prevent an expected collision between the Nightmare of Paradox and the newcomer, naval forces opened fire on the hulk from all sides. The bombardment was utterly and completely useless, immense banks of void shields on the hulk’s exterior craft flashing into being. Boarding craft, strangely enough, impacted unmolested expecting fierce fighting against Tyranid fiends or legions of the Archenemy.
Instead they found defensive barricades of Imperial troops, huddled behind cover, imploring naval officers to stand down. Miraculously, there were no casualties, and engaged voidcraft were ordered to hold fire until explanation was given. Led into the core of the hulk, the Solar naval forces were shocked to be introduced to the venerable presence of Lord High Admiral Kyres, captain of the long lost Dominus Astra.
The hero of the First Tyrannic War explained that following the detonation of the ship’s warp drives, the Emperor-class ship, and surrounding Tyranid fleet had been dumped on the doorstep of an Iron Warriors fortress world. Orbital guns massacred the Tyranid fleet, passing over the Astra most likely with intent to salvage. Before such an action could be taken, the Dominus Astra made all haste for deep space, it’s secondary drives stretched to the limit, always keeping Tyranid void beasts between them and the Chaos guns.
Having successfully evaded capture, the crew was left with a dilemma. Their warp drive was destroyed, incapable of propulsion, and secondary fuel would not last forever. Scavenging of Chaos or Xenos craft would be of no aid, and finding uninhabited imperial craft was astronomically unlikely. The crew had nearly decided to return to the Iron Warriors world and go down fighting, when their miracle came. Perhaps it was luck, but every member of the crew with a shred of faith insists it was no such thing. The light of the Astronomicon turned directly on the Dominus Astra, the will of the Emperor contorting the warp to create a wave in the immaterium in which the crippled battleship could drift. Immense daemonic forces were obliterated by the potent psychic beam, their claws unable to reach the sheltered crew.
Initially they expected to be guided to the Eye of Terror, or the Maelstrom, that they might re-enter realspace, but such was not to be the case. Riding the turning beam of the Astronomicon, the Dominus Astra soon found itself in the company of other warp lost craft, providing supplies for the crew, and a plan for a grand return. With every ship and fragment caught in the Astronomicon’s beam, the forces of the Astra fused it onto the hull of the ship, covering up existing guns for dense adamantium plating, auxillary power sources, and additional firearms. For every meter of the original hull that was rebuilt, every still functioning gun covered over, full batteries of torpedoes and void shield banks took to the ship’s exterior.
In time, no remnants of the Dominus Astra remained exposed, having become a bastion to rival the Phalanx of the Emperor’s day. To reflect this, as the crew drifted towards a warp rift that could only be the Emperor’s work, the ship was renamed for their savior. Their guiding light, as they sought to be to the Imperium. Drifting into the core of the Emperor’s domain, ready to obliterate the Emperor’s foes, came the first Imperial space hulk: Astronomicon.

Much further down the line when we’ve completed writing out and filling up these channels and fine tuning it, would you guys be interested in joining this small discord server to read up on what we’ve made? Currently trying to organize since we have been filling up a lot of dm’s and group chats with discussions on their story, basically just archiving it all down as to not forget anything, just something to join and make small conversation on ocs and read up on what we’ve made for fun!
