y'know saw 2004 has a lot of themes that have to do with lying and secrets n shit. specifically the bathroom trap. adam lies to lawrence enough for it to become noticable, lawrence keeps his secret about cheating on his wife, they both try to lie to the camera to pretend they completed the trap that one time... sure it ain't the main theme of the movie but i find it interesting.

it's like adam finds it easy to lie to others, while lawrence finds it easy to lie to himself (hence his whole "i did not cheat on her!!!" thing) so i like how those play off of eachother.

there also was a lot of trust that they needed to gain though, since adam needed to trust that lawrence wasn't gonna actually do what jigsaw said and shoot him.. you can sorta tell, the more adam lied to lawrence, the more lawrence was willing to break that trust.

it's visible in adam's face too, when he lies. his eyes dart to the side before answering lawrence, and he paused for a bit to think of what excuse to make up. those are pretty common cues that psychology studies notice when people lie, so props to leigh whannel for acting that effectively!!

but uh it all goes back to "i wouldn't lie to you." cuz like. lawrence you literally just did. you saying that was a lie 😭😭 it just kinda feels like they both trusted eachother, but really shouldn't have. in fact, i think adam would've survived if he had less faith in lawrence!!

Starting to think a cooler headcanon for Clark’s upbringing might just be that the entire town of Smallville collectively decided to just go with it and accept that Martha and John's kid has superpowers, but we don't talk about it.
