Quick post to elaborate on later but it's worth mentioning that even though Golden Dragons are kind of in a league of their own as far as draconids go, the other species, dragons proper especially, are no less remarkable. Keltullis, for example, was a red dragon capable of intelligent speech (rather via telepathy or a form of). As was Ocvist, an albino red dragon, who was also described as a good-hearted creature and was believed to be ancient even by dragon standards, having been alive for over a million years. Myrgtabrakke, a green variety and the smallest of the dragon species, proved to be exceedingly difficult to take down, prompting a legendary dragon hunt composed of various warriors and sorcerers and knights. Slyzards / dracolizards, which are not even true dragons, are also incredibly difficult to kill. They can be as big as dragons and supposedly nothing and nobody can parry the blow from a slyzard's tail. So my point is, golden dragons may have unique features and abilities but all draconids are intelligent and powerful creatures.
