I found my complete childhood at the Kinokuniya in Sapporo, Hokkaido! I found the world history comics I saw in Taiwan when I was a kid, and I immediately bought two comics about World War II and the Cold War!

Getting roped into the Secret Santa event was far from the worst thing Asato has been pulled into. And for that, the farmer was slightly relieved. The last thing he would want is to be roped into something ridiculous… Like the pageant event from earlier. Still, picking out a gift for the journalist Yoichi Shujo from Sapporo would have been difficult if it weren’t for the fact his team members were more… Social than Asato. With their help, he decided to send Yoichi…
A book nook! Specifically one with a diorama of a little bookstore that lit up using a motion sensor that would detect when someone was in front of the book nook. Unfortunately, there is no note outside of the package address mentioning it is for the Secret Santa event that the divisions were all participating in… At least Asato managed something!
Yoichi was heading out to buy groceries that his mom assigned him to buy for Christmas dinner later on with his mom and his sisters. He grabbed his coat, scarf, wearing his shoes, then check the pocket from his raincoat did he left anything aside his wallet & smartphone. “Ok I got everything I need but urgh……thinking about me touching grass often and heading to the store with bunch of people makes me so nauseous but if I don’t, I’ll get an earful from big sister……” He let out a big sigh of not wanting to do anything beside staying at home to decorate the place peacefully but he wouldn’t want to get scolded again.
“Huh?”
As he opens the front door, he saw a package infront of him. He wondered who send the package to and from whom? neither him nor his family ordered anything online but come to his mind, it could be his relatives so he knelt down and picks it up. He look at the package around if there was a note mentioning who’s the sender except it’s from Secret Santa. He remembers there was an event where his team are called out to divisions participate Secret Santa game. Perhaps, this gift was for him after all so he opens it and saw a book nook inside.
“Wow…this is actually really cute and the detailed appearance from the inside of a mini bookstore is so amazing. I could imagine myself shrink and chill inside the library but it’d be sound bad if my sisters will accidentally step on me haha…” he made a sad laugh just to sound like a joke even though he’s utterly bad at it. Alright enough with the bad jokes, he was happy to receive the gift and looking forward to where he can put it? on his shelf or table? but wait what’s actually he’s thinking
“Hmm…I wonder who was my secret santa? Ah! I shouldn’t be staying here to think longer. I have to do my errands! U-u-um…uh Sis! could you put this in my room? It’s my gift from secret Santa so be careful of placing it. Thanks!” He asked his sister and give the book nook to her as he quickly leaves from the apartment.
— thanks for the gift and Merry Christmas! 🎄❤️

where i get my plushies! ( ^ω^ )
online
taobao or aliexpress
plush wonderland
for taobao/aliexpress i got dolls like xie lian, san lang, hua cheng, shen qingqiu, luo binghe, lan zhan, and wei ying. you can buy them officially from the taobao minidoll store or get them from a reseller on aliexpress (just make sure to check the reviews, and the doll quality.)
i also get my “ugly” dolls from there, from sellers with reviews. they are usually not as high quality as regular dolls, and have less of a softer feel than cotton (which is the standard for 20cm dolls.) also they’re not as consistent.
some other official companies for danmei dolls are rua. i got my gu xiang & cao wei ning 10 cm dolls from them and my legend of exorcism dolls also. they have good quality and packaging as well.
for plush wonderland, you are able to purchase them OFFICIALLY from dokidoki on aliexpress. i wouldn’t trust the resellers since that’s their official partner on the app. however they have a website, which i find decently priced. this is where i got my genshin plushies. they have a variety of other fandom plushies as well, i generally trust their dolls since they have good quality!
in-store/in-person
capcom store
amiami (akihabara radio kaikan 4th floor)
k-books (akihabara radio kaikan 3rd floor)
lashinbang
animate
capcom store is your go to place for plushies relating to the company’s games. i got my big dante plush and my small nero plush from there. they have three locations, tokyo, osaka and umeda. their tokyo location is in shibuya parco on the 7th floor (i believe) and the one thing about their location is that they almost seem to be out of plushies, especially resident evil and devil may cry. just be careful and check the other locations! i find that the plushies have a different feel to them and might not feel as “high quality” as a 20cm cotton plush but they are plenty soft.
akihabara radio kaikan is my go-to for much smaller plushies, like crane game plushies or larger charms. it is located right out of denki town gate in jr akihabara station.
your best luck with cheap yet good quality plushies is k-books on the third floor. it’s all used anime goods, with pretty much every popular franchise or anime. but despite being used everything is packaged like new and generally prices are really cheap compared to new anime goods! i find it worth going through the baskets below all of the goods and searching for a plushy you might like! it’s where i’ve gotten several gojo charms and plushies. and my aki plushies as well.
amiami is located on the fourth floor, and everything there is new/packaged anime goods. i find their selection pretty good if you want to find something a bit more niche. but i mainly highlight them because lately their small danmei selection has OFFICIAL minidoll plushies! (the prices are actually cheaper than some aliexpress resellers!) i saw a 40cm hua cheng sitting doll, and the special outfit hualian dolls as well. it is worth checking out for their danmei selection alone, even tho it is pretty small. however danmei goods is more plentiful in ikebukuro’s stella worth, although no plushies are there.
lashinbang has several locations in japan, but i typically visit the one in akihabara. i also visited the one in sapporo hokkaido, which is where i got my 40cm yuta and gojo sitting plushies for approximately $7. i really like visiting lashinbang because their baskets have some variety of plushy, although i would say that the condition varies on which store you visit. however they do tend to keep their prices low, unless the plushy itself is on demand. i like to get jujutsu kaisen plushies from there.
last of all, is animate! animate is a store where pretty much in-season anime and very popular anime gets goods. i typically don’t find plushies, maybe plushy charms occasionally but it’s not very often that i do. however it doesn’t hurt to check since animate is very convenient, as there is a few locations in tokyo and in other major cities. you’ll find standard anime goods prices here, as it’s a store for anything new.
hope this helps! i might add more ways to find plushies.

The Yakuza (or Like a Dragon) franchise is known for being a tad wacky, but publisher Sega is bringing the weirdness to the real world by basically hosting a funeral for all the series' dead characters in Tokyo.
As reported by Famitsu and translated by Siliconera, Sega is teaming up with department store chain Parco to host an exhibition where players can visit fake gravestones and leave flowers at portraits of the deceased video game characters.
A play on the latest game, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, the event will be called Like a Dragon: The Men Who Perished. It will cost ¥700 (around $5) to enter and will run from December 30 to January 15 in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Subsequent exhibitions will take place in Nagoya from January 20 to February 4 and Sapporo from February 16 to 25.
Starting in 2005, the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise spans seven mainline games but 19 entries in total including spin-offs and remakes. And while its main protagonists Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga swear against murder, there are still plenty of dramatic deaths. One character was blown up atop a skyscraper alongside ¥10 billion, for example, while another was thrown from the top floor of a secret underground castle.
We won't say exactly whose graves can be visited in the exhibition to avoid spoiling the games, but fans can also buy merchandise of their favourites. Dioramas, bookmarks, "death portrait charms", face towels, gravestones, incense sticks, postcard books, stickers, tear-shaped can badges, tote bags, T-shirts, and more are all on offer.
The Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise is growing again in January 2024 with the release of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which despite being the 20th game overall, is basically Yakuza 8. The series had a name change following 2020's Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7), with the subtitle becoming the series main name going forward.
The Yakuza Games In (Chronological) Order
Originally released as a PlayStation 2 game, Yakuza (known as Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan) spawns a lengthy series that follows the steps of Kiryu Kazuma, a member of one of the most important yakuza families (the Dojima family, under the Tojo Clan), in the game’s fictional city of Kamurocho, Tokyo. He and his multiple allies and friends try to avoid the conflicts and plans being schemed by other powerful mob groups.
1. Yakuza 0 (2014)
The sixth released game is actually the first Yakuza when it comes to its chronology. In Yakuza 0, we play as a two protagonists. The first one is a young Kiryu Kazuma in the late 1980s, who is being framed for a murder set up by one of his lieutenants in the Dojima family. The reason behind this has to do with an ‘Empty Slot’, where the apparent murder took place. This is a piece of land that will be a key asset for the person and group who owns it.
2. Yakuza (2005)
The first Yakuza game stars Kiryu Kazuma as its only protagonist after he goes to prison due to taking the blame for a murder he didn’t commit. The victim was Sohei Dojima, Kiryu’s boss, and he was murdered by Akira Nishikiyama, our protagonist’s best friend. The reason behind this crime was that Sohei tried to rape Yumi Sawamura, a friend of both Kiryu and Nishikiyama.
3. Yakuza 2 (2006)
Yakuza 2 starts with Terada, the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, asking Kiryu to help him prevent a war between his clan and the Omi Alliance, their eternal rivals. After being shot in an ambush, Terada seems to be dead and Kiryu looks for Daigo Dojima, son of Sohei Dojima, to make him the new chairman of the clan
4. Yakuza 3 (2009)
The first entry released on PlayStation 3, Yakuza 3 presents an unusual beginning with Kiryu far away from the yakuza lifestyle. Instead, he’s taking care of an Orphanage in Okinawa called Morning Glory Orphanage. He’s assisted by Haruka, and he looks after many new kids living there.
5. Yakuza 4 (2010)
One year after the events of the previous game, Yakuza 4 raises the stakes and brings another type of story to follow. This is still a tale of families, betrayals, and crimes, but on this opportunity, it is shown from the eyes of four protagonists
6. Yakuza 5 (2012)
If Yakuza 4’s story got complicated with the multiple protagonists’ points of view, Yakuza 5 went all-in in the same direction. This time, you play as five protagonists in different scenarios, making this one the biggest game in the series.
7. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (2016)
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is presented as the final beat in Kiryu Kazuma’s life in the Yakuza series. Our protagonist spends some time in prison again, but on this occasion, it is for his past crimes and not by being framed by anyone. At the end of the previous game, Haruka revealed in a concert broadcast that Kiryu was her father and that he was an ex-yakuza member.
8. Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020)
A fresh new start, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a big turning point in the series. For the first time, the main protagonist is not Kiryu, but a Tojo Clan member named Ichiban Kasuga, who went to jail for 18 years to protect Jo Sawashiro, his captain. When he gets out, he finds out that nobody is looking for him because the Tojo Clan has finally been defeated by the Omi Alliance.
Infinite Wealth takes players beyond Japan for the first time with a Hawaii map three times the size of the previous game's. Developer Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio has otherwise promised a "monster class" video game.
In our preview of the game, IGN said: "[Our] time with Infinite Wealth was about as brief as Ichiban’s board shorts, but it left [us] to ponder the infinite possibilities for fun that might be hidden around its sizeable Hawaiian island expanse."

booked our first hotel for our Trip to Japan in 2025. It will be my ninth trip to Japan.
I booked the last hotel first because the snow festival is on so the good rooms will go. I can't wait! I read about 40 hotel reviews but chose the Sapporo Stream because it has an onsen, members lounge and members terrace. whatever that means, it looks super cute. Also by some freaky accident we got upgraded to a much bigger room (350 sq feet, 35sqm), it has its own lounge room and dressing room. I don't understand my luck, although lately I've think its the force of my personality. I mean who was looking for snow festival hotels at 3am in the morning?
Last time we stayed at Yuen-Bettei Sapporo which was insta-cute and fakely traditional. The room was dysfunctional and so dark. I got so over trying to pack my suitcase in the dark. The three portaits we took in fake Japanese tea-room were not worth having such a small room. Apparently it was 24 sqm (258 sq feet) which is huge for a Japanese hotel room. It felt so cramped.
Our room in Setagaya Daita was 27sqm (290sq feet). I think with the tatami matts and the stair case it just felt so tight in there.
Our room at Trunk was 20 sqm (215 sq feet). That was too small for both of us, especially in winter.
Cerulean Hotel 38 sqm (410 sq feet), that feels every bit of that size. So luxe.
The crampiest room ever was Sunroute Plaza which was 15.7sqm (169 sq feet). At the time it seemed huge and I was so excited to be staying in Shinjuku. Even with Ben it seemed OK but the last time with Chris A, I hated how tight it felt. Bigger boyfriend and I was used to bigger rooms.
Shinjuku APA 11 sqm (118 sq feet) once again I felt weirdly happy in this tin can, it was so cosy
It was also a trek to the centre of town, so the other Chris just bailed. I mean it was snowing harder than you can imagine and we had to wear so much clothing.
I had this fantasy of buying an expensive textured jacket from somewhere like BEAMS PLUS but the staff there were bitchy and I looked so dowdy in my snow outfit trailing water onto their sales floor.
This time we are staying in Suskino. It has Tanukikoji Shopping Street and lots of restaurants. Last time one of our nights out was a super flakey vegan jazz bar where they took age making each dish you ate.
I bought an amazing fake fur snow jacket at Tanukikoji Shopping Street at the Vans Store. I decided to swap sizes after I left the store which did the girls head in.
We felt like we landed on another planet in Sapporo. The amount of snow felt unreal.

Noda’s interview for the special Golden Kamuy exhibition
this is not my translation. an english translation of the interview was provided in the exhibition guide book, so i scanned & ocr-ed it and am just sharing. besides the interview itself there’s two lengthly comments from two different people who worked closely with noda on the manga which i found were an interesting read.
On the Opening of the Exhibition
—I want to congratulate you on the opening of the Golden Kamuy Special Exhibition. You were in the middle of illustrating this work when you lent us a wide variety of art reference materials for this exhibition, including Sugimoto's military cap and Asirpa's makiri. Of the many materials you have lent us, is there anything that is particularly memorable for you? Satoru Noda: I would say Sugimoto's Type 30 rifle. There is a company that made the same gun as a prop for Clouds above the Hill. I gave them even more detailed materials and had it custom-made. To be honest, it cost me 600,000 yen. I was broke at the time, but I didn't hesitate to buy it, because I knew I absolutely needed to have detailed reference materials that I could even use for close-up illustrations. I think of real reference materials as investments that improve the quality of my art and get people to buy my work. If I were able to make illustrations based on my own imagination without doing any research or buying any materials, and the work could become popular and sell well anyway, that would definitely be preferable.
—It sounds like you were able to create Golden Kamuy by getting your hands on detailed materials that were expensive and difficult to obtain, and by conducting frequent research. Regarding these materials, is there anything you want to convey to visitors to the exhibition, or any particular points you would like them to pay attention to? Noda: Most of the military-related materials were items that had actually been used in the past. I'd also like to point out the detail on the makiri and the embroidery. All of the creators’ works have something great about them. Ipopte Ariko's makiri is supposed to be so well-made that its creator, Yukio Fujito, calls it the best work of his life. The tamasay (necklace) is also an old item that I got at an antique store in Sapporo.
—For this exhibition, you drew a large B1 size illustration of Genjiro Tanigaki. What made you decide to create this piece? Noda: I like to go see other artists’ exhibitions, but what I go for are their hand-drawn illustrations. However, I've already switched to fully digital mediums. I felt I had to prepare something hand-drawn for those who were kind enough to come see the exhibition.
I hadn't used acrylic paints in about twenty years, so I apologize for my poor technique. I hope the illustration is able to convey what I feel to be the appeal of Tanigaki.
Reflecting on the Series
—The opening day of this exhibition at the Tokyo venue will be the same day as the release date of the main publication of Weekly Young Jump, in which the final episode will be published. You are currently in the middle of writing the climax of your work. What are your feelings on the final chapter? Noda: I've already set a complete schedule for publishing the final issue, and I worry every day about whether I'll be able to nail the ending, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to keep it interesting. I don't think of it as a perfect work at all. I have lots of regrets. However, it is absolutely impossible for anyone other than myself to make Golden Kamuy any more interesting than it already is, or at least that's what I tell myself for consolation. I think I just had the right momentum. I feel like I've been walking a tightrope at full speed for several years. I was very fortunate to be able to become a manga artist and to be blessed with this kind of series. It's sad, but it's better to end it now when people will still miss it. Just like athletes, manga artists have an age in their lives when their creativity and stamina are at their peak. What you draw during that period is important. For the rest of my career as a manga artist, I hope to work in a more leisurely way.
—Are there any behind-the-scenes stories about the production that you can reveal now? Noda: I intentionally drew the code tattooed on the skins in an unclear way. I think the people on the animation side were troubled by the lack of clarity. Even in the chapter about Second Lieutenant Koito's past, I deliberately avoided showing the entire fort of Goryokaku. But I knew that if I didn't show such an important place, people would get suspicious, so I included the story about Koito's past. There were people who thought, "Why didn't I think of that?” when they found out that the gold was in Goryokaku in the main storyline. By the way, the idea of the tattoos being a map did not come from Shumari or Cobra. I hadn't read either series. I don't think of it as some amazing idea to begin with. But the idea of cutting the skin at the center line of the body and limbs came about because I had knowledge of hunting, and I don't think it's an idea that any manga artist could come up with.
—The scene where it was revealed that the gold was located in Goryokaku was sensational. Can you tell me why you chose Goryokaku as the stage for the climax of the story and as the location of the gold and the battle? Noda: It has to do with the picture of the star when the code is deciphered. It had to be something that readers all over Japan could recognize clearly at a glance. Also, it's the face of Toshizo Hijikata when he sees it. It was what I had pictured from the beginning of the series. I don't think there was any other place to end this story.
—So it was decided from the beginning of the series. Did your plans for any of the episodes change while you were working on the series? Noda: No matter what anyone says, there was nothing in the series that I tried to stretch out. I'm not crafty enough to do things like making characters that are popular with readers appear more. I was determined to make sure I finished it before I died and to make the whole story balanced.
—Reflecting on the series so far, have you noticed any changes in the way you draw manga? Noda: If you look at the first volume, you'll see that it's very poorly made. I'm talking about the composition and sketches. There was a lot of useless dialogue, too. I want to redo everything up to the 10th volume or so.
—What were some of your favorite moments while making the series? Noda: First of all, I'm happy about all the letters I've received. Fans carefully wrote me many letters in very beautiful handwriting. I've kept them all. I'd like to reread them on my deathbed. Also, I was able to redeem myself from my previous work. Golden Kamuy eased the frustration of having my last series discontinued. Having received various awards and sold a good number of copies, Golden Kamuy proved to me that I had enough talent to call myself a manga artist.
—What were the hardest parts of the experience? Noda: The hard part was that I had very little time to do anything other than creating manga. There are many different kinds of manga artists, and I think they can use their time in completely different ways depending on their style, but in my case, I didn't have much time to spare. I was fortunate enough to have my work turned into an anime version, so I had a lot of work to do. During the serialization of Golden Kamuy, Yasuyuki Kunitomo, who I worked with for a long time when I was an assistant, suddenly passed away at the age of 65, and I began to think more and more about the fact that we only live once. I wanted to go fishing, watch more movies, live a healthy life, see foreign countries, and so on. I had given up on all of that. I used to think that talented manga artists should just keep making manga until they die, but I don't think that way anymore.
Noda’s Thoughts on his Characters
—What kind of characters are Sugimoto and Asirpa to you? Noda: They are the beloved characters who changed my life. I don't think either of them were depicted as perfect people. Sugimoto is a good-for-nothing guy. But he's kind. I'm not someone who always chooses perfection as the answer. Asirpa is the same. She's a girl of twelve or thirteen, after all. I was adamant about giving these two a happy ending no matter what. It's the least I can do for readers who have been following the series for more than thirty volumes. Killing Sugimoto is not something an entertainment writer would do.
—Are there any other characters that you feel strongly about in addition to these two? If you were to convey a message, what kind of message would it be and for whom? Noda: I wanted Ariko and Tanigaki to be more involved. Aren't they adorable? I wanted them to eat, exchange uniforms, bathe together, and kill each other. They could have been best friends. If I were to convey a message, it would be, "Sorry."
—The illustration of Tanigaki and Ariko playing cat's cradle in the frontispiece of Chapter 240 is very impressive. Were they close since the Russo-Japanese War? Are there any hidden episodes between the two? Noda: Rikimatsu told Genjiro that he would look better with a beard, so he started to grow one.
Closing Statements
—Please give a message to the readers who have seen the story through to the end. Noda: I would be grateful if you would go back and reread some of the volumes from time to time. The beauty of manga is that you can open the books to pages you found entertaining, or parts you liked, and enjoy them anytime. I am very glad that there are so many people who enjoy this series. It makes me happy to know that a lot of people are supportive of my work. This exhibition is evidence of that, and I'm honored. I'm grateful to have been born into this world with only one life to live, and to be able to make a living as a manga artist, but I never imagined that I would be able to experience something like this. I want to express my appreciation to all the readers who enjoyed and supported Golden Kamuy all the way until the very last chapter. Thank you.
A Talk On Various Topics by Kazunobu Goto, Historical Research
I officially started working on Golden Kamuy as a supervisor from around the fourth volume. As the Japanese Army's 7th Division and the Shinsengumi's Vice Commander Toshizo Hijikata begin their activities in earnest, there was a need to supervise the work on historical and military matters, so Mr. Hakko Okuma of the Young Jump editorial department reached out to me.
I had been supervising a manga series called Zipang by Kaiji Kawaguchi, which was serialized in Kodansha's Moming magazine, and I got acquainted with the Young Jump editorial department at a mochi pounding contest held by Mr. Kawaguchi. The first work | supervised for Shueisha was Jashu, which was written by Takashi Yano and illustrated by Yuko Osada. It was serialized in Monthly Young Jump. Then, | supervised Gunjo Senki by Masaki Kasahara, which was serialized in Weekly Young Jump. These opportunities led me to the great fortune of becoming the supervisor of Golden Kamuy.
One of the episodes that left a deep impression on me when I first joined was the scene where Hijikata's faction forced their way into a private house in Volume 6, Chapter 58, titled "Showdown in Barato." This was inspired by the battle of Toba-Fushiri, the first battle of the Boshin War, where the Shinsengumi attacked the new government forces while hiding inside private houses. Satoru Noda was gracious enough to listen to the ideas of a novice like me, and that scene was born. It was a simple scene that you might overlook at first, but I still remember how happy I was.
The second most memorable scene for me was in Volume 13, Chapter 130, "Guiding Lights". In this chapter, Rear Admiral Heiji Koito, who is the commanding officer at Ominato Naval Port, appears with the Ikazuchi-class destroyer under his command. | also gave advice from both military and historical perspectives on the mission to attack Abashiri Prison by sailing up the Abashiri River in a shallow-draft destroyer, and on the fates of Toshizo Hijikata and Shirosuke Inudo, a warden at Abashiri Prison (the loyal Toshizo and the twisted revenge of Shirosuke) in the following book, Volume 14, Chapter 135, "Chain Deathmatch."
I remember that there were not enough reference materials for drawing the Ikazuchi-class destroyer, so I collected materials for its prototype, the B-class destroyer of the British Royal Navy, and got help from model makers. When trying to come up with what strategy Lieutenant Tsurumi would use to attack Abashiri Prison, which had walls that rivaled those of a fortress, Mr. Noda asked whether it would be possible for a destroyer to float up the Abashiri River.
In response, I provided him with detailed information on the specifications of Ikazuchi-class destroyers and let him know that they were fully capable of performing the task. The main gun of the Ikazuchi-class destroyer, a 40-caliber 7.6 cm gun (QF 12-pounder 12 cwt), is more powerful than the Type 30 (Arisaka) rifles used by the Japanese Army in the Russo-Japanese War (the 40-caliber 7.6 cm gun has a firing rate four times that of the Arisaka, which was called a rapid-fire gun. Ikazuchi-class destroyers were also equipped with five 40-caliber 5.7 cm guns, which have more firepower than four guns of an infantry artillery company, so they have impeccable ground-level gunfire capabilities.)
I was also commended on my advice on the rivalry between Toshizo, who represents the old shogunate soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the Tokugawa shogunate, and Shirosuke, who represents the samurai class who switched sides to the new government. The duel sequence and Shirosuke's last words (‘Finish me off, last samurai’) were so cool, they really got me fired up. Mr. Noda's portrayal of Toshizo is an example of how old age can make you more and more powerful. He is so sexy that you can't help but root for him.
It was around this time that the background of each character began to be worked out in detail, and the details of their pasts were developed. In particular, thorough research was required to develop the characters of personnel from the 7th Division, such as First Lieutenant Tokushiro Tsurumi, Second Lieutenant Otonoshin Koito, Special Sergeant Major Mokutaro Kikuta, Sergeant Hajime Tsukishima, Superior Private Hyakunosuke Ogata, Superior Private Tokishige Usami, Private 1st Class Genjiro Tanigaki, and others, as well as Sofia Goldenhand.
The true value of this process was demonstrated in Volume 20, Chapter 197, "Spoiled Brat." The stories of Otonoshin as a boy and Lieutenant Tsurumi as a young man intricately intertwine to form a brilliant mystery. The kidnapping of Otonoshin by Special Sergeant Major Kikuta, Sergeant Tsukishima, Superior Private Ogata, and Lieutenant Tsurumi is depicted as a set-up to win over Rear Admiral Heiji Koito, and we learn that Lieutenant Tsurumi wanted naval forces from a very early stage.
These detailed character backstories are fully put to use in Volume 23, Chapter 226, "Sacred Ground.” It depicts the encounter between Superior Private Tokishige Usami as a young boy and Lieutenant Tsurumi. The scene shows why Private Usami so fascinated with Lieutenant Tsurumi. These are episodes that were written according to detailed character backstories that were thought out in advance. By combining the detailed backstories of each character, such as what year they were drafted, what year they entered the military academy, etc., without creating plot holes, our aim was to achieve a high level of realism in the work.
As of the release of Volume 28, when this text was written, there are still many details in Golden Kamuy that have yet to be revealed. These details were thought out in the early stages. This all happened behind the scenes, but the plot of the “mottled gold coin,” a unique coin minted by the Ainu and depicted in Volume 27, Chapter 271, "A Mottled Gold Coin," was decided at a meeting at the end of December 2019. It was finally depicted in the first week of March 2021 in the main storyline. The plotline was created over a year prior, and here, it was presented to the readers for the first time. It's stories like these that are the hidden plotlines (gold) of Golden Kamuy. These plotlines will reveal themselves during the climax of the hunt for the gold, so I hope you look forward to them.
Remarks On The Golden Kamuy Special Exhibition by Hiroshi Nakagawa, Ainu Language Supervisor
On June 10, 2014, I received a call from Hakko Okuma, the editor in charge of Golden Kamuy, asking me for advice on a manga set in Hokkaido. Ten days later, Mr. Okuma and Satoru Noda visited my laboratory at Chiba University and showed me the drafts for the first three chapters, which were nearly complete. My honest impression was that it was captivating. The setting and the story surprised me. I was fascinated by the detailed drawings, depictions of Ainu folk tools, and the heroine, an Ainu girl. At that point, I offered my services and became the Ainu language supervisor.
At that time, her name was still undecided and she had a working name, which I rejected. After that, we discussed a number of ideas, and finally settled on Asirpa. Looking back, that was my first contribution to this work. The name Asirpa is a combination of the words asir, which means “new”, and pa, which means "year," and it is usually used to mean "new year" or "next year," but in the story, Asirpa herself can be interpreted to be a representation of the future. This was Mr. Noda's idea, but if we were to translate the word for "future" into the Ainu language, Asirpa would certainly work, as it refers to the year to come. And although it's just a coincidence that we gave her this name, I'm sure that this work played a role in attracting the attention of many people who had not previously been interested in the Ainu, and it certainly has been an opportunity for a new social climate regarding the Ainu people.
Not only does Golden Kamuy feature a number of Ainu people as its main characters, but it also breaks the stereotypical image of the Ainu as simple people who fell victim to the changing times and were exploited by the Japanese, instead depicting them as strong-willed people with vibrant personalities. Both Inkarmat and Wilk are mysterious characters whose intentions are hard to read, and Wilk can even come across as terrifying. On the other hand, Kiroranke, the good-natured ladies' man that he is, gives the Ainu people an attractive impression (although he is actually a terrorist).
Asirpa is not just an ordinary heroine who is tough and cute. In the early chapters, there were often comedic scenes where Asirpa is seen playing with small animals like rabbits in the frontispiece, but when you turn the page, you see her dismembering and eating the animal. But isn't it an unusual occurrence in the history of Japanese manga to see a heroine who catches, kills, and eats animals? Japanese people generally don't think of themselves as participants in the killing of the animals for food, even though we eat from the carcasses of cows, pigs, and chickens-on a daily basis. Asirpa does away with this façade and shows us in a natural way that we rely on the lives of other beings for sustenance. In fact, without understanding this first, one cannot understand the traditional Ainu worldview. In that sense, Golden Kamuy is a great textbook for understanding Ainu culture.
One of the major achievements of Golden Kamuy is that it successfully incorporated into the plot the ethnic minorities of Sakhalin and their cultures, which had not been portrayed much in the past. In addition to Japanese and Hokkaido Ainu, the Russian, Sakhalin Ainu, Nivkh, and Uilta languages are spoken in this manga, which is unprecedented in the history of comics worldwide.
The differences in language and culture between the Sakhalin Ainu and Hokkaido Ainu are portrayed in a fun and lyrical way through the interactions between Cikapasi and Enonoka. The hohciri, which is the kind of beaded hair ornament that Enonoka gives to’ Cikapasi to wear on his forehead in Volume 16, was something that few researchers knew about until about 40 years ago, and even today, only one such ornament can be found in a museum in Japan. Another hidden story was that of the isohseta ("lead dog"). Although the Hokkaido Ainu do not use dog sleds, dog sledding is very important in the lives of the Sakhalin Ainu. Ryu, who tagged along with Cikapasi from Hokkaido to Sakhalin in Volume 14, fell in love with the headdress of the isohseta who led the pack, and was finally promoted to isohseta in Volume 21. No one would have predicted that Ryu, who entered the story in Volume 3 with Tetsuzo Nihei, would do so well after his owner's death.
I was very fortunate to be involved in a series that shines a light on the Ainu people and their culture in such a meaningful way. After eight years since the start of the series, we have finally reached the grand finale, and as someone was along for the ride, I am deeply moved. But my relationship with this work will probably continue for a long time to come.

It was the second of April, and Sato Kiyoshi had just been fired from his job at the convenience store.
There was nothing in his body language to indicate that he was upset, but it was 2 p.m. on a Wednesday and he was leaving work. Sato’s shift wasn’t due to end for another three hours. And he didn’t look sick. So, he had been fired. From the second shitty job in as many months.
It was his face, probably, and his manner, that did it in the end, Kadokura Koji figured as he watched from the third story window, watched Sato make his way up the street. The man was just not cut out for customer service. The first time Kadokura had seen him, at the shooting range, eyes burning holes in whatever he looked at even when he was relaxed, Kadokura would have bet a good amount of money that Sato was ex-military. A mercenary. You couldn’t fake a thousand-yard stare like that. The man had seen shit. And when he started shooting, Kadokura immediately filed him away as a subject for further research, because, fuck, the man could shoot (even thinking about it set Kadokura’s heart racing a little), and it wasn’t often that an ex-mercenary with skills like that showed up and Kadokura didn’t know who he was.
After the first burst of research came up with nothing interesting, Kadokura’s first assumption was that Sato was a real pro, that he had a fake identity or he was in deep cover or something. But it didn’t make sense, then, for him to show off his skills in public at the shooting range. And after tailing Sato for weeks, months, a year; no - Kadokura had to admit that Sato’s life was just that boring. He had graduated from Sapporo university several years ago, and worked odd jobs ever since - nothing in his field, no office jobs, never even interviewed for one, as near as Kadokura could tell. Sato ate at a different restaurant every night of the week, cycling through a pattern that rarely deviated. He did his shopping at the same three stores, and made his own breakfasts and lunches each day. When he wasn’t working, he read books or exercised or sat around staring at things, and visited pawn shops and antique shops and rarely bought anything. On Saturdays he spent all day at the shooting range. He had no friends, apparently no family, and he got sick approximately once every two months. It was a fucking dismal existence, actually.
Today, Sato deviated from routine; he did his shopping three hours early, since he had been fired, and he bought a chocolate popsicle and he sat on the park bench on the other wide of the square, with his plastic bag of food between his feet, and stared and ate his popsicle. He didn’t seem sad. He was looking in Kadokura’s direction. Kadokura could almost imagine he was looking at him.
Kadokura smiled.
Sato was probably getting tired of dealing with noisy customers, bosses that breathed down his neck and told him he was doing everything wrong, shitty wages, and long hours.
What the man needed was a job that afforded him a proper challenge more suited to his aptitudes. A better, more flexible schedule with more free time.
Better pay.
Sato would need a fair bit of training before he could take on risky jobs, since he didn’t seem to have any martial arts experience. Kadokura would have to get him a CQC trainer, stat. But Sato would do just fine. He was a killer by nature. Kadokura could tell. The methodical, precise way he moved his body. His lack of personal attachments. That flat, piercing gaze.
He really needed some proper stimulation, though. The weekends at the shooting range weren’t enough enrichment for a creature with a soul like that. It was like a tiger in a too-small cage. Kadokura knew.
Kadokura knew.
And he watched Sato get up and head back to his apartment, and he smiled.

Vivi x Lewis Headcaons!!!:
They met at the Pepper Paradiso. 🌶 Vivi went in one day for lunch to read a new comic and was distracted by a really cute waiter who took the time to help his little sister with her homework and color with the smallest sister. (Plus Pepper Paradiso 🌶 is one of the few places that allows dogs, so Mystery was always welcome.)
Vivi continued to make it her daily routine to come in, be it for only a shake or small soup or a full meal. Lewis, bless him, was oblivious of Vivi's crush, despite her very obvious flirting tactics.
"Can I get you anything else, Ms. Vivi?" "I'll take a tall glass of you." 😘 "Oh! Of course! The Lewis Shake, coming right up!" And proceeded to bring his mami's pinkurple milkshake.
(Arthur's uncle and Lewis's dad are good friends, and with it also being a small town, Arthur was already good acquaintances with Lewis and talked easily with him, much to his friend's, Vivi, surprise. She tried to get some help but Arthur wasnt much help. Men.)
Very quickly, the four became close friends and formed Mystery Skulls.
Lewis's parents noticed the crush and were not only looking forward to potential grandchildren, but Mami had to step in and offer the idea that the Yukino girl might like him.
At first Lewis just laughed and said they were only friends. But he thought about it more and more and started to see her a little differently.
One day, Lewis was looking for a new comic and he was ecstatic to find a limited edition Sailor Moon🌛 artist book. He went up to the front desk, pleasantly surprised to find Vivi running the register.
Upon learning of Lewis's love for Sailor Moon, Vivi went to the back and got a DVD set of every episode ever and bought it for him. He said he'll only allow it if she comes over to watch it with him. And so their first date was in his room with pizza 🍕 and PJs and Sailor Moon🌛.
Vivi bought Lewis an alpaca when she saw a cute pinkurple one at a store. He slept with it every night and named it Sapporo.
Vivi knows a good chunk of Spanish 🇪🇸 thanks to mandatory high school classes and living in Texas 🇨🇱, where nearly everyone at least knows the basis, but Lewis only knows a few words in Japanese 🇯🇵 thanks to anime, and he decides that isn't good enough. He goes as far as to an online class on the language and surprises Vivi when he one day can hold a full conversation with her in Japanese 🇯🇵. Vivi is a little emotional and blames allegories on her watery eyes, because no one outside of her family ever spoke Japanese 🇯🇵 with her, meanwhile half the town speaks Spanish 🇪🇸 with Lewis.
Vivi might have had a crush first, but Lewis falls in love faster and and harder.
Yes they go out on dates and Mystery Skulls missions, but their best dates are in Vivi's apartment or in Lewis's bedroom and watching cartoons.
Lewis may have introduced Vivi to Sailor Moon🌛, but she introduced him to Gravity Falls 🌲.
Ironically, Vivi likes hanging out at Lewis's better and Lewis likes hanging out at Vivi's. Vivi loves all the noise and sisters and smells and the pure chaos. Lewis loves it too, but it's nice to take a break and enjoy the quiet, small, clean apartment.
Once when eating ice cream, Lewis was watching two moms feed their children the sweet treat and he smiled and thought outloud, "Our children will be so beautiful... I bet they'll be troublesome lile their Mama." And he stops chuckling when he notices Vivi choking on her sundae.
Vivi and Lewis called each other things like, "Cariño/a" and "mi amado/a," Lewis has called Vivi "Hermosa" a few times and Vivi once made him scream "DON'T!" by calling him "Papi chulo."
☠💜💙☠💜💙☠💜💙☠💜💙
Vivi will sometimes call Lewis "Calaca" lightly or as a joke. Lewis actually thinks it's funny, but Arthur CANNOT call him that.
The Dead Beats have been unofficially adopted. Vivi calls herself "Mama" and Lewis "Papa" around them and even calls Arthur "Uncle Arthur" in front of them. Mystery is, of course, godfather.
My, have the turns tabled. Vivi can now pick Lewis up, who is lighter than air. He was embarrassed at first but it would be a lie to say he doesn't like it.
While many physical signs of affections have to change or disappear thanks to no longer jaw, Vivi and Lewis found it hardly matters, as long as they're together. Holding hands or touching foreheads or snuggling are all they need. But that doesn't mean Vivi doesnt sneak kisses on Lewis's skull here and there. 💋
Vivi introduces Lewis to meditation 🧘♂️ to help his intense emotions, mich calmer now but still part of being a ghost. Souls are emotional, what do you want? While often Lewis does it alone, sometimes Vivi will meditate with him. 🧘♂️🧘♀️
Vivi can give a good massage! Lewis may not feel pain as much as he did in life, but his bones to get stiff and sore, and Vivi also focuses on massaging his chakras to help his soul feel better. And, bless him, can not give good massages. He just doesn't know what he's doing, but Vivi lies through her teeth and claims he gives great back rubs.
Lewis is now THE BEST pillow and smuggle buddy! He's so warm and soft and Vivi could hug him forever if he would let her.
💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜
That's all I got for now. Part 2 maybe? Or a fic? Who knows.

Wet Hot American Summer
August 18 Zoey and I thought we fixed the leak in my tent but we were wrong. I spent the early morning inching away from a puddle that finally pushed me out around 8 am - time to get up anyway. Too rainy to cook or make coffee and I left camp aimlessly. I could barely see anything through the smoke and clouds which threw a wrench in my non-plan to drive around and take photos out the car window. Grand Tetons and Montana and Wyoming were up there on my teenage bucket list (lmao, dream big!), mostly for the landscapes and western vibes and maybe a few cathartic renditions of Wide Open Spaces. I just hiked all summer so I feel like I earned a few days of all-american automobile tourism.
Cozy
Decision fatigue is a ball buster on solo trips (and in life) and sometimes I refuse to change course even when it’s clear that a plan isn’t going to work out. I drove around Tetons alternately listening to the directions and making random navigational decisions, so Google kept yelling at me to make a u-turn. Eventually I got annoyed with both of us and stopped for snacks at the general store. I’ve been making my way through all the kettle chip flavors and so far honey dijon is the best and korean bbq is the worst.
Drove straight through to Yellowstone hoping the storm would let up, but by the time I got there it was 50 degrees with rain expected all afternoon. I thought it would be SUMMER once I left the Bay Area, so all my sweaters and warm jackets are in vacuum sealed bags that I don’t have the space in my car to open. I wasn’t loving the idea of being wet and cold in Yellowstone all night so I talked the campground lady into refunding my site reservation and headed for Big Sky, Montana.
I felt bad leaving without seeing any of the Yellowstone sights so I stopped at Old Faithful on my way out. I knew laughably little about what I was looking at and when a bunch of people started gathering I thought to myself, is this thing gonna explode or something?? And ya turns out that’s the entire point, it shoots a bunch of water and steam into the air every few minutes. I bought a cup of coffee and watched halfheartedly. The only other attraction I know about is the rainbow glory hole and there was so much traffic to park in the lot I said screw it and went on to Montana.
No LTE between Yellowstone and Big Sky and I was without a place to sleep - luckily my sister was available to do some emergency concierge work for me. I eventually found a nice campground near town but the obscene number of bear country warning signs freaked me out. I backtracked to Big Sky to buy a $50 can of bear spray, what a rip. Feeling beat today so I made it up to myself with a bowl of chicken curry ramen and a Sapporo. It was no nugget curry, but it did the job ☺️
Reading the bear spray instructions before bed - you’re supposed to use it once a charging bear is two to three seconds from reaching you. Wtf. I can’t do anything in two seconds. Finished Year of the Monkey at last. Almost fell asleep with a candy wrapper in my pocket, instant death. Also I got my period and I’m worried this is going to attract the bears.
August 19 I broke my own rule. I drove to Bozeman this morning and had a chicken fried steak at the Western Cafe, “The Last Best Cafe.” I had a nice chat with two old guys at the bar, initiated by ME! We talked about my trip so far and books (I was reading Walden Two and one of the guys had Woman in the Window with him, and we agreed that both authors are pretty nuts). Good time all around and then one of them secretly bought my breakfast 🥰 I’ve only ever had creepy men buy me drinks at bars so free CFS with no strings attached was a revelation. My smile lit up the cold dark streets of Bozeman.
Too early for hostel check-in so I killed some time hanging out in a coffee shop and wandering around Main Street. When I’m alone in a new city I usually get on the apps, it’s fun to hang out with a real LOCAL and have an AUTHENTIC experience. I did this on my first night in Sydney last year and my date won $7,000 at a bar raffle he’d been going to every week for three years and then bought us a night’s worth of top shelf shots, bad coke, and dumplings. Obviously I was his good luck charm so I should’ve gotten a cut of that $$$ but whatever… Eventually we went back to his depressing loft outside of the city. It was barely furnished and full of his shitty art and luckily he didn’t have any condoms so I was able to decline sex without feeling guilty (I had condoms of course but didn’t disclose). He tried to fuck me again around 4 am and I was so confused I thought he must have found a condom while I was briefly sleeping. He had not. I snuck out at 6 am and caught the bus back to the city. Not the most restful night but nice to get away from the hostel for a little while. But ya I updated my Hinge location to Bozeman and got hella conservative men swiping on me 🥴 My profile isn’t anything crazy but I don’t think I’m giving off Megyn Kelly vibes. Are they playing some sort of sexual bingo? Are they out to stealth me? Seems sus.
If you are a man on Hinge with a naked photo on your profile I WILL screenshot it and I WILL make a collage of my collection once I have enough material and I WILL sell it as a NFT and I WILL make $0 cuz y’all are freaks. This is the tamest one I’ve got, text me if you want a photo of a naked man covering his junk with a pineapple.
Ooooieee hostel is grungy and subterranean and not the kinda place you want to spend many conscious hours in. I took myself to the movies to escape - another thing I really missed last year. I saw The Night House, which I would describe as an architectural horror? I’ve been thinking about architecture a lot lately, this cool site Zoey sent me has some interesting interviews and stuff. In the movies I ate an entire bag of sour gummy worms and a box of junior mints.
Had a freaky bookstore experience earlier today, not the first time this summer. I originally wrote a longgg paragraph about synchronicity here but I got self conscious and started wondering if hearing other people’s stories about synchronicity is like listening to them talk about their dreams. I personally love talking about dreams (call me and tell me about your crazy dreams!!) but things definitely get lost in translation and sometimes they’re straight boring (like when my old coworkers and I used to dream in Excel, fucckkk). So I get why people find it annoying and here at Bog Girl Summer we can’t afford to alienate any of our readers. All I will say is that I walked into a bookstore today with synchronicity very much on my mind, went to the psychology section to buy a baby Jung text, and there saw a literal sign that said “Staff Pick, Introductory Jung: Synchronicity.” So yes, I bought it. Don’t forget y’all - I have a psychology degree so please don’t come after me about confirmation bias and all that lol. It’s very possible that in this summer of upheaval I’m desperate for some kinda sign that I’m on the right path. Let me have this one 😘
I also bought this postcard which spoke to me because most days I feel like I’m trying to drink out of a firehose

This month, all idols will go into a studio to film short videos that will be used for a AR photobooth where fans can “take pictures” with their favorite idols. The videos they need to film will be pretty simple: sitting on benches and standing in a few different poses in front of a green screen (examples: 1, 2).

March 1-March 31: base Culture Complex museum AR photobooth filming (admin note: muses may encounter idols from other companies while there).
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 1
After five months since her last comeback, another comeback for her has finally been internally confirmed within Dimensions Entertainment. Preparations in the studio and the practice studio don’t kick in quite yet this month, but she’ll be in for a few concept meetings to be told what Dimensions is looking at give her own feedback as a veteran of the company. His new mini-album will be released on the final day of the month, meaning he won’t get the chance to see the results just yet, but, in their meetings, Dimensions makes it clear to him that they’d like this comeback to see more success in at least a few areas compared to his prior comebacks to show his capability for long-term growth as a soloist in their company, putting the pressure on him.
Important dates:
March 31: Release of “When It Rains” & Day mini-album + press showcase, music show promotions continue through April 30.
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 3
She finishes a successful round of single promotions on the third of the month, but she doesn’t get a break just because she’s finished promoting one comeback. Instead, she’s almost immediately ushered into preparing for her next one by having scheduled studio time to record the track list of her next mini-album, which Dimensions has slated for a summer release fitting of its more bright and pop-y sound compared to her debut mini-album.
Important dates:
March 3: End of music show promotions.
GAL.ACTIC
The next step of the comeback preparation process is to learn and rehearse the choreography for the title track. They’ll also attend fittings, as usual, and the denim brand GetUsed that they’re the face of has them scheduled for a fan sign at a mall mid-month. They’ve also been chosen as the newest faces of cosmetics and skincare brand MISSHA and will have a commercial filming for the brand’s Lipsticks this month. They’ll film another performance video for Studio Choom a few days after making their comeback. The rest of promotions are music show performances and radio show guestings for this month. “Oh My God” sees a reception similar to what Dimensions had wanted, finding a success more similar to “Lion” than the other songs they released last year.

March 22: Guesting on KBS Cool FM Kiss The Radio radio show.
March 30: Guesting on SBS Power FM Cultwo Show radio show.
UNITY
Their album is recorded, so March is dedicated to mastering the choreography for their comeback title track. Mid-month, they’ll have fittings for their wardrobe for the next comeback. The planned style for this comeback doesn’t step too far outside of what Unity is known for, but it’s important for the style team to know that the members’ performance won’t be compromised by ill-fitting pieces. At the end of the month, Unity will go in for a long day of shooting photos for the album.
Important dates:
March 15: M/V and stage outfit fittings.
March 30: Photo book and teaser photo shoot.
↳ CHAMPION
CHAMPION will be performing a concert at Tokyo Dome next month, so they’ll be coming together when all members are available this month to rehearse their stages to make sure they haven’t forgotten the concert set list.
Important dates:
N/A
LUCID
Most of the month is spent continuing to promote their comeback. The reception has been mixed. While the song received a detail performance more similar to their lighter concepts that have been more popular with the public, diehard fans of one concept over the other don’t seem to be satisfied with the conceptual meeting of the two, each claiming Dimensions should have gone all the way on one concept or the other. After they finish their mostly successful round of promotions, Lucid will fly out to Los Angeles to perform at KCON as Dimensions’ solo representative at the event.
Important dates:
March 3: Guesting on MBC FM4U Dreaming Radio radio show.
March 5: Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook filming (to be aired: March 13).
March 9: Guesting on MBC FM4U Noon Song of Hope radio show.

Touching Down in Sapporo
My departure from Tokyo was a difficult one, I had booked a 7am flight to Sapporo thinking that Tokyo being the most populous metropolitan area in the world would have 24 hour public transport...nope. The only way for me to get to the airport was with a bus and that bus departed from Tokyo Station whereas I was staying in Nihombashi. The receptionists kindly looked into taxi prices for me but they were extortionate of course so my plan was to walk to Tokyo Station at 3.30am instead! I was never concerned about safety as Japan is known as being one of the safest countries in the world (and it feels like it when you're there) but the issue was my heavy suitcase. I'd sent my old winter jacket and some other clothing home to New Zealand to lighten the load but I was still burdened by a backpack, laptop bag and 25kg suitcase. The walk was 20 minutes and I moved steadily, with arms burning, throat in immense pain and nose stuffed up. This was the easy part! Everything was fine until the descent into Sapporo airport. My ears refused to pop during landing and I was in complete agony for the 15 minutes it took for us to land. I got off the airport bus in Sapporo and walked to the hostel trying desperately to unblock my ears, unable to hear anything around me but at least still able to appreciate the scenery of Hokkaido. I stored my luggage at the hostel, awkwardly having to tell the lovely Japanese receptionists that I actually couldn't hear anything they said when introducing me to the other guests because my ears were still blocked from the flight. I set out for the day, starting at Baristart for a flat white from my special cafe selection method of searching Google for the best cafes and then judging based on photos of their coffee machine and latte art. The cafe was an adorable tiny building that was like a small log cabin with high rise buildings on either side, but as it was so small it only had 5 chairs inside so I was forced into the corner which was actually good because my coughing and sniffling was a bit gross! The flat white was really good though and the atmosphere was very comfortable to sit there for an hour or so. Once caffeinated I started my walk around Sapporo to kill time until the hostel was ready for me to check in. I began with some underground passages that connected the metro system which were full of quirky shops with cool things for sale including some extremely tempting tshirts and hoodies! I ventured above ground for a few blocks to get a look at the Sapporo TV Tower and clock tower and then spent a good 2 hours browsing in Tokyu Hands and Uniqlo where I picked up some nice Christmas postcards and winter clothes as well as just being entertained by the weird and/or great things they had for sale. I tried to walk back to the hostel underground where it was warmer as I'd just worn a hoodie out for the day and there was a cool wind by the afternoon. At the hostel I was finally able to check in and have a lie down in my pod after being introduced to the other guests and having to explain that my ears were still really blocked and I couldn't hear anything. I did go down to sit with everyone for a little bit and eat my yakisoba noodles for dinner while creating a friendly impression with the other guests including a guy called Naoki from Norway who is half Japanese and half Indonesian who was very interesting and just seemed to get along well with me.
