Even though it's canon that Makomo never actually met Sabito and Giyuu while she was still alive, I love how many people (including me) still pretend that they are a trio regardless. The vibes are just too strong.

But it makes me think though, if Gotouge may have originally intended for them to be a trio, but maybe scrapped the idea when they realize there's no hint of Makomo in Giyuu's design, except just having a slightly similar hairstyle.

I'm sure I'm not the only one but as a comics fan, I hate that we have to pick and choose which runs to read and pray that our favorite character is actually written well. I know a lot of these stories have been going on for decades passed by multiple writers but it always sucks when it feels like there's genuine progression in the story or a character is developed in an interesting way all for the next writer to just throw that in garbage.

maybe it's to maintain a sense of tension & turmoil that would eventually reach an explosive peak, a sense of tug-of-war, a back-and-forth to hammer home the ideals they want to deliver and for the viewers to chew on, but although these arguments regarding hiroshi & his stance as a man torn between his loyalty for his country & the loyalty for his Filipino friends and lover is of course important, how they write these scenes & the points they present from this week alone is getting too repetitive...? literally the argument scenes from last night & tonight between adelina & hiroshi is basically the same; the ideas were the same, the dynamics were the same: the aggressive, radical adelina, bristling rage and fear over the injustices she's seen thus far, and the cautious, inspiriting hiroshi, all hopefulness and reassurance one moment as a lover, defensiveness and sternness as a japanese soldier in another. this debate will be ever-present ofc, it is one of the series' biggest conflicts, but it is unfortunately so easy to tell when it is a.) being pulled up as a main topic to move the plot along / be a necessary conflict for character development/introspection / be the conflict to deliver the morals & messages the writers want to send to their viewers, or b.) when it is being pulled up only for the drama and filler to pass the time. like watching the characters sit down to argue for 10 minutes, do other things for the plot for 2 minutes, then sit down again to argue for the next 20 minutes. lol.

actually i’m gonna speak on the “versions” of newsies for a min

the only two “versions”. are broadway and 92sies. we do like actually know that right. because those are two different plot lines with different events and entirely different songs.

west end? not a version. it’s a production. it’s new staging and orchestrations which is different for us, and certainly fresh character interpretation, but at the end of the day that’s what it is— interpretation.

so the “livesies and west end are diff versions” (which already doesn’t make sense because then wouldn’t bway and tour be slightly different as well with that argument) is kind of. just. a weird separation in the name of—speaking as a writer here—maybe “keeping the work we already have”. like oh i wrote racer this way but now he’s this way.

guess what! doesn’t matter. it’s a character. there’s no- like no version besides bway script and 92sies script. what you draw character from are the actual words spoken- and yeah, staging will influence you bc if it doesn’t that’s weird, but it’s not a different character. are we. do you get me.

mainly my worry is othering, and personally this fandom cannot afford to do that w/ michael’s jack kelly, because then i’ll become violent and no one wants that :/ a new person playing jack doesn’t make it an other, different jack it just makes it yet another millionth interpretation of jack. yk. like do we get what i’m saying here

I alluded to this in tags awhile ago but like. IK continuity doesn’t work this way and when things shifted from kooky and silly 40s stuff with psas scattered to like dark brooding whatever we’re supposed to take it as like either time passing with some hand waving to personalities or ‘it was always like this for them trust’ but thinking about dick specifically going from holy galloping grasshoppers Batman to dealing with Bruce in spyral and shit is so so so sad I can’t articulate it well rn but like everyone kinda agrees the shift happened after two face and jason but like no dick saw it all he saw it while it happened he saw Bruce taking tim to baseball games and then gaslighting him at 16 he saw the man who’d take care of a random baby on the fly threaten to send his youngest son back to the league he saw the man who helped usher in a new era of young heroes treat Steph like shit he saw the man who inspired hope for a future in civilians heroes and enemies alike take advantage of cass’ suicidal thoughts and separation from her own humanity he saw everything and he just has to. i hope no one’s got an issue with me making diff versions of my own fics with different idols because they’re my works & a common practice with authors 😭 this is to curate to different fandoms that i am part of

usually, the original version is one where the fic is written with that specific idol in mind but versions like these arise either through ideation phase or even months after being published! reason why is mainly because i see them acting similarly and that’s good enough justification tbh

& some fandoms just do not interact/reblog fics the way other fandoms do so i’d like to feel that validation at least from somewhere LMFAO
