The clink of glasses filled the atmosphere, along with merry shouts, whistles and cheers as glass after glass slammed down onto the counter. But it wasn’t patrons, no. Afternoons were always chilled out, since not many patrons stopped by. The evenings always got the raunchiest. So here you all were, egging on Castiel and Benny in a shot contest. There were five shots of the Roadhouse’s strongest bottle of hard liquor, and you were all seeing who could down them the fastest. None of the people in the room were lightweights. There were lightweights, heavyweights, and then there were the bartenders at the Roadhouse, who Meg liked to call ‘jumbo-weights’.

“DRINK! DRINK! DRINK!” You were yelling, your voice mixed with those of Dean, Meg, Bela, Ruby and Jo. Benny finished first, slamming down the shot glass and whooping loudly, not even that buzzed while Cas dejectedly sipped his last shot, having missed by the fraction of a second.

“Cassie, sweetie, don’t beat yourself up about it.” Meg purred, gripping Cas’ shoulders tightly from behind. “You’re out of practice.”

“Or maybe I’m just good at throwing ‘em back.” Benny smirked, but then his smile dropped. “That sounded better in my head.”

“Glad we can agree.” You snickered, then cleared up the shot glasses. “C’mon, what next?”

“Meg.” Ruby shot up from her seat, beckoning her over. “You. Me. Shot challenge. Now.”

“So polite.” Meg drawled, but got up anyway, a familiar sultry smile on her lips as she lined up for the competition. “Bring it on, darling, I can do this in my sleep.” Benny racked the shots, a giggle coming from your mouth as Dean awkwardly looked to Castiel.

“I don’t think we’ve met.” Dean smiled, putting his hand out. “Dean. Winchester.”

“Castiel Novak, but everyone calls me Cas.” Cas shook Dean’s hand, finding himself warming up to this stranger.

“Cas.” Dean repeated under his breath, then nodded. “Alright, Cas. Let’s get you some water to wash down that hard liquor.”

“That would be ideal.” Cas nodded, instantly following Dean. In the meantime, Ruby and Meg were slamming back shots, and Ruby was just tagging behind Meg. You were egging them on, but you noticed something. Ruby usually downed shots easy as breathing. Now she wasn’t, which confused you. However, you brushed it off. It couldn’t be something bad. Your resident Regina George always was tough as hell.

Ruby-gina George: Been there, done that messed around

Megolodon: I'm having fun, don't put me down

Evenings were always the more raunchy of times at the Roadhouse. The bar was now full of chatting passers-by, girls dressed in skimpy clothes and biker boys with tattoos winding around their necks. The shift today was yours, Ruby’s, Dean’s and Meg’s. There were an overwhelming amount of females working at the Roadhouse, if you were incredibly honest. As for the employees not working behind the bar, they were roughing it up at a booth, hollering and hooting like owls at a baseball game.

“So, darlin’, what do you do in your free time?” Dean asked you, cleaning out a glass with a rag and shooting a wink to a couple of giggling girls nearby. You poured a whiskey for a patron, sliding it across the table.

“Well, I’m a big fan of joyrides.” You answered with a goofy grin. “My Mustang’s always fun to take a spin in.” The mention of your Mustang got Dean’s eyebrows up to his hairline as he pointed out of the window.

“That beaut’s yours?” He exclaimed in disbelief, laughing. “Damn. That’s a serious muscle car.”

“Yeah, my Valkyrie. Val’s my sweetheart, always will be.” You looked up wistfully at the mention of your beloved car. “And your Chevy Impala, she’s absolutely gorgeous. I could listen to her purr all day.”

“That’s my Baby.” He bore the same wistful look you did, then nudged you. “We should take ‘em out for spins. Y’know, joyrides.”

“You sure?” You chuckled, looking up at him. “I don’t drive easy.”

“Even better.” He gave you a little wink paired with a click of his tongue. He flipped a bottle in his hand, pouring a whiskey shot expertly and handing it to you. “Ma’am.”

“Sir.” You took the shot with a chuckle, sending the glass over to the sink. “Thanks, I needed that.”

“You’re very welcome.” He poured himself a shot and downed it, and you couldn’t help but focus slightly on his pouty, pink lips, almost hyper-fixating on them. But you tore your eyes away to serve a customer at the bar, a rather shady-looking guy who had a snake tattoo on his neck. He was also wearing sunglasses inside, which had Dean raising an eyebrow.

“You know who wears sunglasses inside?” He muttered into your ear as the man ordered a glass of Jack Daniel’s with his eyes on Meg. “Blind people… and douchebags.”

“I can’t fault you for that logic.” You laughed, pouring the man a glass and passing it to him as you turned back to Dean. “About that joyride, I’m down.”

His eyes lit up, a puppy-like grin now on his face as he fully faced you, elbow leaning on the counter. You couldn’t help but stare deep into those mossy eyes, mirroring the infectious smile on his face just as Meg stumbled up to you both with a groggy smile on your face, whiskey glass clutched tightly in her hand.

“You t-two look so… cute.” She giggled, leaning heavily on you. You saw the glass cup in her hand, and you caught a whiff of… Jack Daniel’s? “Smilin’ at each other, lovin’ each other, so adorable!” You raised an eyebrow, holding her steady as she continued to ramble. “You should marry each other. Ugh, I feel so… weird.”

“Does Meg usually get this slammed?” Dean whispered, and you shook your head, confused. That’s when Ruby sprang out from behind the bar, grabbing the guy by the scruff of his neck and slamming his head roughly down on the counter. “Woah, damn!”

“Ruby!” You gasped, but she snatched the glass from your hands and showed you the contents. There was a powdery white substance in it that you instantly recognised. “Damn it- she’s been roofied.”

“Bastard thought he was smooth with it.” She growled, holding the guy down. “It takes Meg a lot of strong tequila and a Long Island to make her that slammed.”

“I’m surprised you know that, but I’ll take your word for it.”

“I’m callin’ the police. Get this jackass locked up.” Dean glared daggers at who could’ve been Meg’s potential assaulter as he dialled the emergency number and explained the situation. Meg clung onto you, and you felt bad for her as you went to haul her off to bed, entertaining her every mindless babble about something or the other.

“You’re pretty.” Meg slurred as she hobbled with you. “You look like Rubes. She’s pretty too. Very pretty.”

“Yeah, she’s gorgeous.” You replied dryly, not out of disdain for Ruby but rather out of extreme concern for your friend. “Absolutely stunning.” Though there was part truth in that. You’d always wanted to be like Ruby- not give much of a damn. Able to speak every weird and/or rude comment that came to her mind and everyone would worship her for it. She could talk openly about where she came from, confidently, with a flick of her blonde hair and my-give-a-hoots-are-on-vacation attitude, but you weren’t inclined to open your mouth about it. “Let’s get you in here.”

You opened the door to your bedroom, limping to the bed and just letting Meg flop- “Wheeeeee!” She squealed as she went, but then was out cold the moment her face hit the mattress. You smiled at her antics despite the seriousness of the situation, drawing up your blanket and tucking her in, staying with her for a bit until you were sure she was ok. Then, as you descended the stairs, you’d found that the gang had cleared out the bar, which was helpful in the current climate. Especially now that the dude had been carted off to the nearest station.

You made eye contact with Ruby, who looked livid, but softened slightly when she saw you. “Is she ok?” She asked expectantly, and the tension seemed to lift a fraction when you nodded.

“We’re gonna have to tell my mom about this.” Jo sighed, drumming her fingers on the table. “She’s gonna be pissed.”

“The dude who tried his luck on Meg?” Dean shrugged, his brow furrowed a tad in concern. “His luck’s gonna say adiós once Ellen gets her hands on him.”

A few days later, you were up early, sat talking to Dean in one of the booths before you went on your joyride. The sun filtered in through rickety blinds, illuminating Dean’s emerald eyes as they gazed at you in a way that would bore through your soul. You hadn’t known Dean for more than a week, but he was such an easy person to be around. He was witty, but sometimes had trouble coming up with comebacks when flustered, had an easy demeanour while also seemingly being kind of lost himself. He was like a walking contradiction, and it intrigued you to no end. He could look like a sharp-jawed, drop dead gorgeous heartbreaker, but in his grey Henley, he just looked soft and innocent. Handsome and sweet.

Though, you knew he was too good for you. What with his smooth words, caring personality and overall just being Dean. You were, if anyone find out where you came from, a personified chessboard. Your entire being was checkered with black and white.

“C’mon.” He stood up, looking to the jukebox on the other side of the room. “Let’s dance.”

“Let’s what, sorry?” Your eyebrows raised slightly as he jogged over to the jukebox, playing Tiny Dancer by Elton John and outstretching his hand for you. “Oh, no, I’m not a dancer.”

“C’mon, don’t leave me hangin’ here.” Dean’s outstretched hand beckoned you over almost like a siren’s call, and what with his boyish grin, the charming sparkle in his eyes and the overall feeling of being wanted got you up with him and taking his calloused hand in your own, skin tingling with the feel of the ring on his finger, his own feeling sparks upon the silver band on your hand pressing against his warm skin. He drew you close, his arm around your waist in a sort of non-pervy way, like he wasn’t trying to force himself on you.

“Warning. I might step on your toes.” You gave him a look which was playfully serious, but Dean just gave you a cocky grin. Damn that smile.

“Just follow me, sweetheart, and you’ll be fine.” He raised the other hand that was already interlocked with his, the low rumble of his voice putting you at ease as he swayed you both from side to side, moving in a circle with a look in his eyes that he couldn’t explain as he gazed down at you. “See? You’re a goddamn natural.”

“Maybe I have a good teacher.” You replied smoothly, which seemed to stroke his ego, as he shot you a wink and a click of his tongue.

“Damn right, you do.” Dean gave you a bashful chuckle, then bit his lip as he smiled, both of you continuing the slow spin in a circle while Elton’s mellow voice hazed the atmosphere. “I’m gonna spin you, ok?”

“Don’t drop me.” You quipped, and he shook his head with a laugh.

“Don’t tempt me, darlin’.” He spun you out and then in, his arms crossed over your front.

“Did you have special dance lessons?” You asked with a giggle, holding his hands, his fingers gently rubbing and playing with yours. “You’re really good at this.”

“Well, my friend Bobby taught me.” Dean sighed into your ear, a low chuckle falling past his lips. “He’s a grouchy ol’ bastard, but I had a prom date that I needed to impress. Sadly, I never got to go with her. I was… sick… on the night of prom.” You brushed off the brief hesitancy, instead enjoying this brief moment of calm. Dean could tell that your nerves were frazzled from the events of Wednesday night. That’s the great thing about Dean. He reads people easily, all for his insistence on having no emotional intelligence whatsoever. You assumed that this was a distraction method.

“Ellen’s always been one for dancing.” You mentioned, shrugging as you rocked from side to side. You saw Ellen as practically a second mom. She took you in, and Benny, when you needed it. But she was lonely, and you were pained to see her like that. “But she hasn’t in a while. Not since she lost her husband.”

“Huh.” Dean’s voice had an intrigued tone to it. Like he had an idea. “We should set ‘em up.”

“Ellen… and this Bobby of yours?”

“Yeah, they’re the same age, both lonely old souls - with all due respect - and they would get along.” He tilted your head with his index so you’d look at him and his charismatic smirk, just begging you to say yes. “Whaddya say we play matchmaker, sweetheart?”

You found yourself conceding quickly to this man’s goddamn charms. “Ok, fine. But if this goes south, you’re to blame.”

“Duly noted.” He laughed, nodding proudly and squeezing your hand. “That deserves another spin.” He spun you again, so then you were facing him. “Y’know, I’m kinda honoured. Pretty lady such as you, dancin’ with a grunt like me… gives a man all sorts of ideas.”

“Are you flirting with me, Dean?” You raised a playful eyebrow, again involuntarily finding yourself giggling like a lovesick schoolgirl at his smooth words.

“Maybe.”

“That’s rather bold.”

“I don’t see you complaining.” You both locked eyes for a moment, then burst out into laughter, his lower register mixing well with yours in the dim, naturally lit room.

You were happy with this man. Really happy, that you’d found a good friend. You found a good friend in Dean Winchester.

And he’d found a new home in you.

The purr of Baby’s engine.

All of it had you hooked on an impossibly addictive high, hopped up on the euphoria of singing the lyrics at the top of your lungs with Dean in the driver’s seat, a grin that could only connote inner nostalgia on his face as you both belted out the words off by heart. The feeling of the wind on your face, the thrill of how fast Baby was speeding down the highway and the sensation of being unchained… it all got you above the altitude of a kite.

Far above.

Dean’s eyes were on you when he wasn’t looking at the road, admiring the way the light hit the curve of your face and illuminated your eyes. He took in your sweet voice, filling him like a warm hug. He’d not known you for long, but to him, you were home. Someone he could turn to.

He found himself hooked on that pretty smile. Your smooth words that contrasted your otherwise humble nature. How one second you could be the calming force and next you’re busting out your wild side like nobody’s business. You seemed so… sure… of who you were. So easy on a misguided soul like him.

After his baby brother went to Stanford, his father didn’t see much point of keeping him there. John was a drunk, and a notoriously violent one at that, and he’d prevented Dean from going to college so he could take care of Sam. But his Sammy was all grown up, and he didn’t need Dean anymore. That broke him in pieces, and made him desperate to find someone to pick them up because he’d lost them.

He turned to you with a wide grin, meeting your eyes as the final chorus blared on the radio. There was no place you two would rather have been right now than here, just letting loose and having fun. Neither of you were allowed to be kids. Sammy was Dean’s reminder, and the ring on your finger was yours.

Painful reminders, but they were both ones you couldn’t let go.

Then Dean switched the cassette tape once the final notes rolled out, Eye of the Tiger playing loud and proud on the speakers.

This was like trying to get Sammy to eat his proteins when he was a kid. Only harder.

“C’mon, Bobby, it’s just a date.” Dean reasoned, chuckling slightly at his surrogate father sat in Baby’s passenger seat and looking rather like a pug with the grumpy face he had on. “You’re gonna sit down, be yourself and everything’ll go smooth like butter.”

Bobby bristled, glaring daggers at Dean, lips pursed. “See, that’s easy to say when you’re not the one on this date, boy. She’s gonna be some classy broad who orders a pinot noir, or a Chateau Margaux or whatever-the-hell, and I’m gonna be stuck wonderin’ what the hell all these fancy names mean.”

“See, you don’t know until you try.”

“Don’t give me that chick flick crap, you idjit.”

“Look, all I’m saying is don’t get too hopped up on the idea of being perfect for Ellen.” Dean shrugged. “Be cool, yeah, and flatter her, give her some compliments and make her feel at home, but don’t go saying things like-”

“This sucks balls.” Bobby grumbled, not at all to Dean’s surprise.

“See? Don’t say that.” He saw Ellen in the rear view mirror, and clapped Bobby’s shoulder. “Ok, Bobby, you’re up. Knock her socks off for me, yeah?”

Bobby had no choice but to get out of the car, hoping that he didn’t look like a fool, or maybe his gelled back hair was neat and didn’t have a dreaded flyaway. That his collar wasn’t popped. That his jeans didn’t have some unexplained stain on them. He stepped to Ellen, who gave him a warm smile. “Balls.” He muttered under his breath. She really did look like a classy lady, which sent his embarrassment into overdrive.

“Hi, I’m Ellen.” She introduced, her voice smooth as honey and making Bobby even more nervous that yes, this woman was definitely far above his league.

“Bobby.” He replied stiffly, but then held out his arm. “Shall we?”

“Guess so.” They linked arms, striding towards the restaurant, where you and Dean had made a reservation. When the two were guided to their table, they were provided with a drinks menu. Ellen didn’t even take one minute scanning it, flicking through at the speed of light and announcing that she knew what she wanted. Bobby, however, was stumped. Wine? Pinot grigio? Champagne? But there were so many options for one champagne. Why couldn’t the damn drink options be more simple? Beer was definitely out of the question, though his mouth watered and taste buds craved for the Heineken embossed in gold on the menu.

But he knew that he wanted the medium rare steak, announcing that to Ellen, who replied that she’d be having sea bass fillets with specialised dressing and garnish which sounded rather fancy. It did nothing to soothe Bobby’s poor nerves. Ellen, meanwhile, was torn between remaining soft spoken with this man or being, y’know, herself. He seemed decent, and considerate, with the way he carefully looked over the drinks and food menus.

“Madam, sir, can I take your order?” A waiter with a flip notebook arrived beside them, and Bobby gestured for Ellen to speak, not wanting to seem overbearing.

“The sea bass fillet with the special dressing and garnish,” Ellen answered smoothly, her eyes flicking to Bobby to gauge his reaction to the next words, “and one Heineken.”

The choice of drink lifted Bobby’s spirits instantly, and that gave him the green light to not strive to impress the beautiful lady across from him. “And I’ll have the steak, medium rare. And as for the drink, I’ll have what the lady’s having.”

“Of course.” The waiter took the menus and left the table, inciting a moment for the two to laugh at their own anxiety.

“You thought I’d be one of those high-horse, classy women, didn’t you?” Ellen guessed, and Bobby nodded bashfully.

“Guilty. I haven’t done this in a long while.” He chuckled, warming up to Ellen quickly. “You’re a woman after my own heart. Always loved a good Heineken.”

“You and me both.”

After they’d had dinner, they exited the restaurant, but instead of parting ways, Bobby offered his arm once more to Ellen. “Mind walking for a while with this ol’ fool?”

“Not at all.”

NEXT UP:

“Jo.” Ruby sat down in front of Jo, who was in animated conversation with Charlie. They both turned to her in surprise and identical raised eyebrows. “And you, Charlie. I need advice.”

Maybe Charlie could help. After all, she was an expert in the field Ruby needed advice on. This was an extremely unfamiliar topic, even though she’d grown up in a family full of suspiciously close women.

Oh, god, this was nerve wracking.

Jo looked concerned, but nodded, and Charlie did the same. “Sure, go ahead.” Jo gestured for Ruby to continue, while Charlie sat eagerly forward in her seat, waiting for Ruby to speak.

“Ok.” She took a deep breath, her eyes briefly flicking to Meg. “What if… what if I…”

Wonder Comics YJ Thoughts

My re-read of Wonder Comics YJ reminded me how much I've been meaning to play in that sandbox. I remember when it was coming out and how much people complained about it, and I was sad bc I thought it would be so EASY to fix those flaws with a lil' fanfic.

Which brings me to the fact that I wanna get back into writing fic. I've missed it. Why not start with this lil' era that caters to so many things I like anyway? I've got a buch of bunnies/concepts I wanna explore...

Kinda obsessed with Kon's storyline. I dig that he was trapped there, got fake-married, helped raise a baby for a while, and skipped out on the Crisis group memory-wipe as a result. I'm gonna go ahead and read some of his storylines that take place after the YJ series ended, bc I also love what all that whackness did do his relationship with the super-fam.

Amethyst on the team. I should be exploring this. Full stop. Gen, shipping, world-building.... I can go in so many directions with my fave princess and fave team actually being put together, and I should.

Tim's memory reboot a la Zatanna. This was really a cool idea. I like that the core four all have reason to remember their time with each other, even if OG YJ adventures have technically been erased from timeline. Kon was protected by the Gemworld. Bart by his speedster shenanigans. Tim got help from Z, and Cassie... well, I don't think we quite covered why Cassie remembers...

Which means I could do a story about what Cassie remembers and why. Probably involving some Greek god bs. Could be angsty. Could be fun.

That also begs the question of HOW MUCH DO OTHER FORMER MEMBERS REMEMBER? Cissie. Greta. Anita. Cissie shows up toward the end of Wonder Comics YJ, and there has to be some complexity there. I head about her being threatened to return to the cape by Amanda Whaler, and I've considered toying with it.

Then there's the new kids on the block. I admit I don't have a lot of ideas for Kid Lantern and Jinny Hex, but I've got a couple. And I really like the idea of incorporating Naomi into the team. I enjoyed S1 of her trade. I would probably stop there at growing the roster, tho. The big teamup at the end of the book with all the new young heroes was a bit... much.

How much do the Titans remember? The core four were pretty buddy-buddy with Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven in their post-YJ Titan days. Do those relationships still hold water? Or not? Hmmm.

I don't care, these guys are "my gen" because they're the first DC legacies I got introduced to (apart from Supergirl, Batgirl, and Robin) and I care about these blorbos the way someone like Waid loves the Fab Five. Sure they were never a thing in the comics but that doesn't mean anything to me. None of the comic gens are ones I claim in their entirety like the YJ show S1 crew. I like Damian and Kon but don't particularly care about their peers. I like Wally, Dick, and Kara but I don't care at all about the Fab Five. So these guys are "my gen" for whatever that's worth.

Look I can’t comment on later stuff, especially post-season 5. But some of the takes about early seasons Sam seem, kinda harsh? For example, I’ve seen it proposed repeatedly that Sam doesn’t think Dean is capable of genuine emotional connection/loving women because he expresses surprise about Dean’s relationship with Cassie in S01 E13. This take genuinely surprises me because it’s so far from how I interpreted that whole episode. 

Imo, Sam’s surprise isn’t because he views Dean as some emotionless robot, he’s surprised because it’s repeatedly demonstrated that Dean: 

Doesn’t stay in one place for very long 

Believes that forming long-term relationships as a hunter is bad 

Is opposed to being emotionally vulnerable 

All of which make forming a genuine emotional connection extremely difficult. Dean staying in one place long enough AND allowing himself to be vulnerable enough to fall in love is pretty incredible. 

My point is, Sam does know his brother, despite the time they spend separated. He repeatedly explicitly states that he’s aware Dean’s devil-may-care attitude is a facade throughout S1 and S2 alone. Obviously there are things Sam doesn’t know/expresses surprise about, 2 years allows for a lot of personal change and Dean isn’t exactly an emotionally open character. But ultimately Sam loves his brother. I don’t think him expressing surprise because Dean had a past romantic relationship Sam had no knowledge of, means Sam doesn’t think Dean is capable of forming that kind of relationship.

Tbh, I never bought the realism” or “accuracy” argument. The Game of Thrones writers claimed that the explicit rape/sex scenes scenes were there for “realism” but if they were truly concerned with realism they would’ve shown women with body hair. 

In an interview, Sydney, the actress who plays Cassie, said she was supposed to have more sex scenes but turned some of them down (she was trying to assure the viewers that she doesn’t do nude scenes unless she feels it’s necessary) . That’s just crazy to me, her character is already objectified so much and the network/producers wanted there to be even more nudity. I’m not really surprised though as this is HBO and their whole thing is gratuitous nudity.

When I watch, I wonder, who the show is for, and what message they’re trying to get across. The show is about teens but it’s for ages 18+. Teens can’t even watch a show that claims to represent their experiences (though I know for a fact that many teens watch the show). So either the show runners intended to appeal to a younger audience (teens) or they wanted adults to watch a show about teens being sexualized. Either way it’s problematic.

I also find almost all of the characters on Euphoria unlikable, and have a hard time rooting for them despite their sad backstories. I know people loved Maddy back in S1 but she acted like a typical mean girl, there weren’t many layers to her character. Unlike Alexa who plays Maddy, Zendaya is a good actress, and her character seems to be the most developed, yet I still find it hard to root for Rue. Why did she even become a drug dealer? Her motivations are unclear. One of my biggest problems with the show is that relies too much on telling instead of showing. The narrations and voice overs are tiresome. This is unrelated, but how can anyone take Astray seriously? He reminds me of Carl from Shameless.

As far as Drake goes, the man has a history of dating underage girls. He texted Millie Bobby Brown, the actress from Stranger Things, “I miss you” and gave her “boy advice” when she was about 14/15 (typical grooming behavior). Again, I had this in my inbox for two years so not sure what this is responding to but I agree. Yes, it's realistic that teens have sex and take showers naked, that doesn't mean we have to see it in a very detailed graphic way. Guess what teens also go to the toilet so if these directors were so concerned with "realism" they would also show that lol. And these characters should not be teens I agree 100%. Like was it so hard to make them 19-20? Would it change the story THAT much? The only thing it would change is that it wouldn't be so shocking anymore and shock value is all this show is running on. I didn't even know the thing about Drake but that's gross omg, it makes the whole thing even ickier.

rue bennett, ginny miller, and lack of nuanced perception in how mental illness in black women works

i think the tragedy of euphoria (if i had to list just one) is partially the fandom’s lack of understanding of rue, leslie, and gia…cultural attitudes in the black community have a lot to do w why leslie acts the way she does. and then race is never mentioned bc sam levinson doesn’t comprehend the nuances of race and mental health in the black community.

he can comprehend addiction, but nothing like the fact rue being a black woman will have her heavily stigmatized by the black community as well as the predominantly white one she lives in as her “proving black stereotypes.”

that just hits a lot harder knowing in the beginning of s1, she has zero hope and so it feels very hollow when lexi encourages her sobriety, and again in s2 from jules when she’s going thru withdrawals. she is tired of being the scapegoat by everyone around her, even if they have valid reasons for wanting her to get clean and she is making decisions that harm others. and she feels during the s2 interaction with cassie that she is being pitied, simply cannot take it anymore, and retaliates bc she is just so tired of everyone around her being believed to be innocent and pure when they are not, and her being expected to be even in the throes of addiction and it being perceived as “not her.”

bc in a sense, rue is not her addiction. however, she’s lived with it so long that she is used to it, practically revels in the deviant label her entire schools mocks her with, and thus feels like she cannot leave. jules conflicts with this, because she cares for rue as a friend and romantically but is not going to associate with her if she continues. but even when she is sober, people like nate are shit talking her efforts to stay clean when they simply have no idea what she’s gone through, yet jules is proud of her despite rue finding it hard to stay clean. cassie only does the same as nate because she needs a defense for having gotten with him but not taking accountability for how that hurt maddy, even if she was right rue’s friendship with lexi was incredibly toxic and transactional. the issue here is everyone has valid points abt rue except for nate, but no one is seeing the nuances of her situation. it’s either “she’s good because she’s clean” or “she’s bad because she’s not” and jules seemed to be the only one blurring that line because she’s dealt with addiction in her family before.

leslie kind of reminds me of my mom in that she did help me thru mental issues, but it was a very “deviant” thing to do bc of how in most of black american society, racism is seen as something you need to be “stronger” than and thus stronger than any other obstacle. so realistically, some black ppl in rue’s extended family might actually ridicule her or attribute her addiction to personal flaws or solely her father’s death. rue is an atheist, but also her mother was this religious church girl in her youth and rue is seen in church settings during rehab. there’s a possibility leslie didn’t even tell others abt rue’s hospitalizations or if she did and word got around, she had to fabricate some sort of lie so rue would not be judged for her addiction.

and ppl perceive leslie as “overreacting” as they do gia and that’s very suspicious to me. idk like, as compared to ginny and georgia ginny has severe depression and georgia is like, praised for a lot of the manipulative shit she says to ginny when that’s a huge contribution to her mental issues not being resolved for as long as they were in the first place. i personally think a lot of the g&g fandom missed the point of the show—georgia is not perfect. loving your kids does not mean they don’t get to feel traumatized when you admit to murdering their step father. generational trauma is a thing and you cannot love someone into not acknowledging or feeling their extent of their own.

ginny and georgia somewhat makes that distinction in the therapy sessions by explaining bc georgia is white there is a lot of experiences she cant understand ginny has, so she cant just invalidate them. however the fandom is so corny and anti black that they will compare ginny’s trauma to georgia’s to undermine her. and then praise georgia for doing what she should’ve done as a parent which is support ginny and complain how ginny should be “more grateful to have her.” and say the same abt her father. that truly just paints an insidious lack of compassion for black women dealing w/ mental health issues. bc abby and marcus, dealing with their own, have quite never been given such animosity for having mental issues, they’ve actually been given much more sympathy.

No but like Colman Domingo wasn’t wrong when he said Sam Levinson “likes to smash expectations” cuz that was literally what he did all throughout S2 of Euphoria!

What most fans thought would happen:

1.) Cassie ended S1 basically saying “Fuck relationships. I don’t want that to be my main focus anymore” and we thought she would find her self-worth and stop seeking validation from men because of her daddy issues.

2.) Maddy would still be with Nate’s abusive ass and they’d be that evil toxic couple that ruins everyones lives like they did to poor Tyler.

3.) The Jules vs. Nate storyline would still be one of the main conflicts in the series.

4.) Nate would either die or go to jail.

5.) Kat and McKay’s storylines would progress further.

6.) Kat and Ethan (aka the best couple in S1) would have some kind of relationship drama, but would be able to bounce back from it.

7.) It would be revealed that Lexi has a crush on Rue and she’d either confess at some point and they’d get together or she’d find someone that treats her better than S1-Rue.

8.) Fez would either get killed by Mouse or continue to be a side character with like 3 minutes of screen time.

1.) Cassie seeking validation from NATE JACOBS OF ALL PEOPLE!

2.) It didn’t take 5 seasons for Maddy to learn that she can live without Nate.

3.) The Jules vs. Nate storyline was pretty much forgotten about except for like 4 very short scenes that showed Nate’s creepy ass was still thinking about Jules (don’t get me started on that “blink and you’ll miss it” flash of Jules while Nate and Cassie were fucking 😭)

4.) Nate’s bitch ass is still alive, not in jail, and he got one of the happiest endings of the season 🙄

5.) Kat turned into a background character cuz Sam Levinson was mad that Barbie didn’t want to do whatever weird storyline he had written for her and McKay faded from existence.

6.) Kat and Ethan had relationship drama and certainly DID NOT bounce back from it 😭

7.) We still don’t know if Lexi had a crush on Rue, but she sure did find somebody to love…But absolutely NO ONE was expecting it to be FEZ!!!

8.) Fez was moved up to series regular status and had tons more scenes this season.

I say all that to say, don’t be surprised if some important storyline from last season gets dropped or is only mentioned a few times in the next season. Cuz if it’s one thing Sam Levinson is gonna do, it’s build up a storyline only to let it go absolutely no where.

oh yea definitely. i think they both obvs have qualities from both parents. the john parallels w/ early season sam are just louder but yea he's definitely got some mary qualities. also, idk if you've watched the winchesters, but in that mary also wants to leave hunting and go to college and secretly enrolls and gets in, so, another very sam-coded moment. i think dean also wanted to get out of hunting in similar ways, but because he was raised to be john's number 2 right hand man blunt little instrument he gave up on those dream (9x07 bad boys dean wanted to be a rockstar-slash-mechanic !!) and made peace with being a hunter and being stuck in that life. but we see him long for a family, for a quiet peaceful life too. but where mary and sam wanted a "normal" life to hide and pretend the supernatural world doesn't exist i think dean wanted that as like both a desire to get back what he lost as a child and also as like, a retirement sort of thing. or even as something to have alongside hunting in the later seasons. like i could see him settling down with cas but still working cases on occasion or helping out in a bobby-like role. anyways, sorry for the dean-tangent. just deangirl things lmao. but anyways yes !! sam 🤝 mary wanting to get out of hunting and have a "normal" life while hiding everything abt their family and upbringing from their partner. wait, sorry i'm having thoughts. ok but then that tying back to what i was just saying abt dean, how he wants a family and a partner and the stability of that kind of life except he wants it alongside everything else, he doesn't want to hide the hunting part, which we literally see with cassie !! because unlike sam, dean tells her about hunting because he wants to stay with her and build something real. so dean's like, "yea *handshakes* sam and mary, i want a stable family life but uhhhh not with you there with the hiding from the hunting world and keeping secrets coz that's never gonna work." (he even does this later with lisa too, she knows everything and dean's generally pretty upfront w/ her abt what's going on)

The Witcher Season 3, Vol 1 - thoughts

Hi! Me! I just have to make a post because I binged all 5 eps yesterday and I am having thoughts and feelings and I need to get them out somehwere!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR S3 VOL 1 BELOW!!!

So...JASKIER IS BISEXUAL!!!!

AND HAS A BOYFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just...I have so many feelings about this. Like, as a bi person, it means so much to see one of my fave characters be blatantly bisexual on screen! Also, Jaskier has had so much shit recently, and he deserves someone who loves and appreciates him properly, and I am very happy he got that.

I admit, I was worried about Radovid at first, I thought he'd be manipulative and scheming, especially being with Philippa and Dijkstra, but no, he seems like a sweet, kind man. Also, he instantly fell in love with Jaskier and is so fucking whipped for him - he performed his song to him cause he loved it, MY HEART!! Like...they are just the best, and I'm worried the relationship or one of THEM won't survive the season...but for now, HELL YEAH FOR JASKIER X RADOVID!😍🥰

Right - the plot has actually been pretty solid so far, and I'm enjoying it!

Ciri and Jaskier's dynamic is to DIE FOR and I am so happy they seem to be getting along. Would've loved to see the development of the uncle Jaskier and niece Ciri, but that's what fanfic is for I guess! Also, Yen, Ciri and Geralt as a family was fucking adorable.

Hell yeah for Yarpen being back, and for his arc of finally calling Jaskier by his name when Jaskier helped save his people! Also I screeched when Jaskier got shot with that arrow - I genuinely fear he might be killed, though I'm not sure why...🥺😬

GERALT AND JASKIER TRAVELLING TOGETHER, BESTIES HELL YEAH!!!!!🎉 Like, I would like a PROPER apology Geralt (I sigh, and turn to fanfiction, knowing canon will never give that to me), but I am so happy to see them back together. Also, the friendly banter and teasing, the casual affection, the fact that Geralt is actually asking Jaskier to help him and they seem to be super close again, like that is PRECIOUS TO ME!

I would've liked more Yennefer and Jaskier interaction though, I missed them, but hopefully we'll get that in Vol 2, cause we see a Yenskier hug in the teaser!

Geralt is such a dad, and he's been so good with Ciri (mostly) and it warms my heart seeing him be so tender to her. Like, they are just the best! That bit when she jumped on him, and they wrestled playfully?! MY HEART!😍 (Also, RIP original Roach, gone but not forgotten)

Yen and Geralt as a (romantic) relationship have grown on me, I admit, and they had amazing chemistry, especially those last 2 eps, but I am a firm Geraskfer lover (and I love Yenskier and Geraskier seperately too; I started a Geraskier girl though and always will be). Having them at that Ball, and being a power couple was the best though!

Speaking of the Ball, FUCKING STREGOBOR GOT FUCKED UP HELL YEAH FUCK THAT DUDE!!!! I HAVE HATED HIM SINCE S1, SO GLAD HE'S GETTING WRECKED!!!🎉😎 Also, that fucking Vilgefortz twist...I KNEW I DISLIKED HIM FOR A REASON! But that whole thing was so well done, and also, Istredd and Geralt dancing together... I died laughing!!!🤣

Philippa is actaully super interesting and I'd love to know more about her! Seeing Cassie Clare acting more is making me love her though, and I hope she gets to shine again as Mazikeen in Sandman as well. She's so talented.

Ngl, hate Francesca now. She lost her baby yeah, but then she KILLED INNOCENT BABIES AS HER REVENGE? LIKE NO. THAT'S NOT OKAY. That turned me against her, and she's just generally pissing me off, which is a shame cause I really liked her in S2. Glad Fringilla escaped though, wondering when we'll see her again!

Also, is it bad that I kind of shipped Cahir and that elf, Gallatin?🤷‍♂️ Idk, I thought they were cute. Ffs Cahir, killing him?! Also, detour, but, Dara's hair though?! Phenomonal!

Also, so happy to see Jaskier already in four episodes, and we're deffo getting more of him! So glad my boy is getting to do more this season!

Anyway, that's it, for now. I needed to scream about S3!

i literally asked u guys about thoughts on new obx content from me like 30 secs ago but

i was just thinking about what kind of reader i like best with each of them

for jj i think the whole pogue x kook thing is so so so cute and idc if it makes him sorta ooc (to me, it adds plot bc jj is obv gonna have some issues with his rich bitch early on). they meet while he's working for her parents or at the beach or something? i feel like there would need to be a direct reason for them to interact, he's not about to walk right up to any kook just for fun, and i sure as hell wouldn't be strutting up to him without reason lol.

for john b, i picture him with reader who is (for plot purpose ofc, idrc what ur situations are irl this is just for fun) not a kook, but also not quite a pogue. they don't really say much about it in the show but i imagine there must be some kind of middle class in the obx, like the situation can't just be ur rich or ur poor. reader would be semi-new to obx (i've been thinking this plot up so much like i'll have to elaborate on it later but) and becomes friends with the pogues at some point. reader is very inspired by s1 cassie howard where she's just a certified lovergirl and has frfr daddy issues and doesn't think jb would like her but she's so so so so wrong. like they're really good friends and he has constant heart eyes for her but she just doesn't see them?

for pope i like the vibe of a touron. he has such a poor track record with girls, but then he meets reader during her summer vacation at the boneyard is immediately in love, they have such a cute little summer fling and then both cry when she has to leave? they text and snap all year long and then she comes back the next summer and they're just so sweet and wholesome. maybe she's a little bit edgier than him so they balance each other out and the pogues think its so funny that he seems like a completely different person when she's around.

with kie i can't see her with anyone other than a pogue. i'll be real, her whole "i'm not a cook thing" is just so annoying to me like just accept ur privilege and sit down girl-but anyways, i can't see her interested in dating a kook. maybe they're not really friends, per se, but they run in similar circles and just happen to know each other from afar. they really connect when they both attend the same beach clean up and there's not enough pokey sticks to go around so they decide to share, and kie is so whipped after that. it's not hard to convince her friends to get along with reader, bc they literally already do, and they're v sweet. reader probably hangs out at the wreck during kie's shifts and just loiters so her dad hands her a bucket and makes her bus tables instead of taking advantage of the free refills (and he gives her a cut of the tips). kie is a v stubborn girly so i can see some conflict with these two but since it's my story they usually come to a middle ground where they can.

i'm torn with sarah, bc on one hand, a pogue!reader is so fun bc she could be a sugar mommy to them and sarah would be able to escape from her shitty family, but on the other hand... hear me out. we've seen her with a pogue, and her and jb are great but i have this image of leighton and tatum from the sex lives of college girls where sarah would be so enamoured by a reader who was somehow even kookier than she was, minus tatum being sorta a shitty person. i'm still back and forth between the two, but i'm open to suggestions.

i'm sorry but rafe would not be interested in dating anyone but a kook. he may be down to hook up with some tourons and maybe the occasion pogue, but c'mon guys he literally thinks pogues were made to serve him, so him making one his actual gf is sooooo unlikely and v ooc for him? idk i guess in my head there is some way that you can make him canon!rafe and also more romantic? like he's def vvvvvv toxic no matter what but still.
