oh that's a new one, is it common for (other) Slavic speakers to interpret descendants of *Rimъ (I think Rim, Рим, Рым, Rím, Řím, Rzym, Rzim should cover it) as coming from Remus?
*Rimъ was the regular development of Lat. Rōma in South Slavic, from earlier *Rymъ (Latin long ū and ō give Slavic *y), and the South Slavic interference with early *y > *i is how the unexpected *i in the East and West Slavic forms can be explained. The short ĕ of Rĕmus would stay *e in Slavic, however, so it's a bit more difficult to get *Rimъ from that.
Standing in a checkout line, when an older man asks me about my Goncharov t-shirt. I say "It's a movie, " when the person behind me chimes in, "Oh, yes, Scorsese."
The original gentleman goes on to tell me about the author Goncharov, his favorite of his novels, and a famous character from one of the novels. The three of us discuss whether the main character in the movie is intentionally named after the author, referencing that character, or whether it just sounded good to the film maker. We discuss how steeped the movie is in symbology.
Two of us are having a very different conversation than the third.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ravi Zacharias, who died in May after a high-profile career leading a global Christian ministry, engaged in sexual misconduct with massage therapists and carried on many amorous extramarital relationships via text message and email, according to a scathing, in-depth report from a law firm hired by the ministry.
Five of the therapists said Zacharias touched them inappropriately, and one said she was raped, according to the report. It said investigators searching Zacharias’ mobile devices found more than 200 photographs of younger women, including nude images of a salon employee in Malaysia.
In blunt terms, the report by Atlanta-based Miller & Martin said Zacharias had lied in claiming in 2017 that “I have never engaged in any inappropriate behavior of any kind.”
Coinciding with the report’s release on Thursday, the board of directors of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries issued a statement of “corporate repentance.” The board apologized for earlier statements that belittled accusers and pledged steps to support victims, combat abuse and harassment, and reassess the management structure, which is overseen by Zacharias’ eldest daughter, ministry CEO Sarah Davis.
“We are devastated by what the investigation has shown and are filled with sorrow for the women who were hurt by this terrible abuse,” the board said.
Zacharias, who died of cancer at the age of 74, was a widely popular author and speaker, with many celebrities and prominent Christian leaders among his admirers. Then-Vice President Mike Pence spoke at his memorial service in May, lauding him as a great evangelist “armed with intellect, girded with truth and love.”
Zacharias founded his international ministry, known as RZIM, in 1984, with a mission to engage in “Christian apologetics” — defending Christianity with powerful intellectual arguments. Based in suburban Atlanta, RZIM has operations in about 20 countries and a roster of scores of traveling speakers.
In recent months, the organization has been plunged into crisis, precipitated by a Sept. 29 article in the evangelical publication Christianity Today. The article asserted that over a period of about five years, Zacharias sexually harassed three women who worked as massage therapists at two day spas he co-owned in an Atlanta suburb.
RZIM’s leadership initially challenged the claims, asserting that the allegations “do not in any way comport with the man we knew for decades — we believe them to be false.”
However, it hired Martin & Miller in October, which in turn engaged the services of a private investigation firm comprising former federal law enforcement officers. The law firm said more than 50 people, including more than a dozen massage therapists, were interviewed, and investigators were able to access data from four mobile devices used by Zacharias.......
Another older white man abused hiss religious authority to abuse women. At least he's dead.

It's a Wonderful Life-A Slice of Infinity-RZIM
It’s a Wonderful Life-A Slice of Infinity-RZIM
“I know what I’m going to do for the next year, and the next year, and the year after that…I’m going to shake the dust off of this crummy old town and I’m going to see the world.”(1) Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life is the classic film of Christmas holiday fare. It’s ubiquity on the airwaves belies its dismal performance at the box office when it was first released just after World War II.(2)…

Watch and Pray
Over the previous couple of months, in addition to working on a new book, I have been enjoying the warm summer months here in Pennsylvania, sitting outside while catching up on some back issues of World and Decision magazines. Much of what I have read is encouraging and thought-provoking. But I can’t help feeling disheartened regarding the recent downfall of RZIM, the former ministry of Ravi…

Standing on Bedrock
During these tense days, and (sometimes) sleepless nights, I am so thankful that the Word of God is the bedrock for my life. I was having another one of those “sleepless nights,” so this morning, I got up at 3:30 a.m. and picked up my bible. I wanted to plant my feet someplace where I could stand with confidence–on something solid, that would reassure me, that I not only can walk confidently in…

To make a difference in the world you have to be willing to be different. Change takes sacrifice sometimes to your own defamation and I say this in the bravest and most dauntless way. People are afraid of what they don’t understand, what they are not use to and what goes against the mainstream, and while the mainstream may be popular, often it isn’t fundamentally altering, because the “mainstream” tends to trend on subjects in indefinite terms making real change subjective in a very superficial and weak way. People need something lasting something absolute. But how do you define absolutes in divergent world? #rzim #apologetics #skdotmack #skmack #pressure #moldingyoungminds #lessonsingrowth #realtalk #worldview #ravizacharias #life #lifestyle #absolutes #reason #letmypeoplethink #fundamental #mainstream #divergent #theword

what a day. tomorrow runs to the food shelf and some more work. felt like a new born Christian listening to some OLD Christian music today. Jeremy Camp had a movie made after his life. I remember hearing about his story years ago... Watched some music videos and... What a cool remembrance of being in God’s Holy presence with other believers. It reminds me of how sweet salvation feels. Was so beautiful when I was converted 21 years ago. Saved from the wrath of God the Father. The wrath he placed on his only begotten son. John 3:16. To pay a fine that only his sinless blood could satisfy.
I’m grown a bit distant since I survived my ordeal the with occult, not to mention falling into a snake “den” with ANOTHER NAR false “prophet”! After Bill Johnson, , Todd White, Mike Bickle, Mary Tupper Todd Bentley and Doug Stanton... I figured the odds of running into another occultist would be slim! Disappointed the impurity of their tradition in Freemasonry. I’m convinced all of the major groups have ties into freemason. Most interesting I have been studying a W Morgan. Captain Morgan who was murdered on 9/11 1826
I will find different praise and worship soon. It’ felt like being freed from inside of a snakes guts. A slimy hug that didn’t want to let go of me. You only notice the bile after you sit in it long enough. It started to feel like the very divination he claimed to “destroy.” Yeah...we can tolerate these as new Christian... But we should not make an empire in the valley of the Shadow. Some people breathe only to pretend, others indeed bear fruit of the spirit. In light of RZIM (ravi zacharias) it is imperative to question: “How do these men make 10, 20, 30 year empires of sin? These incidents make the whole church look naive. The best thing to do with heresy is to GO BACK and establish the basic faith. Can’t move forward with them until this happens. Their flimsy doctrines give way and soon the fruit that was lacking will not add up.
In high school I was accused of belonging to the cult church. And while there are some cuckoo groups in Pentecostal, my youth pastor was not. He was/is far from perfect. He’s a bit too encouraging. Soft now. He preached the Gospel of Christ. (Repentance required.) But also something miraculous happened each Wednesday... which is the presence of Christ when “two or three are gathered” in his name. I miss the awesome feeling. Like some serious drugs that only God could provide. Never quite felt the same after that. But isn’t that how experiences are?
Hard to see how much fruit it has born up in my life. Happy to know that it’s not so complicated to new believers. We can always establish the faith first and talk about giftings of the spirit after...
blah. that’s enough. gg

The Santa Delusion-A Slice of Infinity-RZIM
The Santa Delusion-A Slice of Infinity-RZIM
A charge that some people make is that religion in general and Christianity in particular are irrational. It’s ridiculous to believe in God, they say; there’s no evidence that God even exists! Richard Dawkins, in his best selling book The God Delusion, makes this very claim, saying that faith in God is just like belief in Santa Claus! But of course, there’s a major problem with comparing faith…

Quote
God’s Word places us in the timeline of a coherent history, delivering us from the deceptions of the enemy, telling us who we are, and where we came from, what is wrong with us, how we are made whole, and where we are going. We are placed within a story of which we know and celebrate the outcome, even as we wait for it through time and trial. In Christ, history’s outcome—its ultimate end—is revealed. Dark days may follow, but the ending is known. It is a story neither deficient, nor untrustworthy.
