The festive season was something James found tedious but also an excuse to have some fun. Rufus had been a little bit of a thorn in his side ever since he had appeared that day in the ministry. Having listened to his every word he senses that there was more going on than met the eye, and with rumours of him being another member of this blasted order of the Phoenix he had to know more. James had pushed and pushed, even pretended he was ignorant and showed him some of the ministry, but the other wizard hadn't given him anything. Annoying yes, but it made it more thrilling at the same time, learning the truth would be so much sweeter. As a gift for Rufus, he arranged for a dementor to be let loose in the temporary living area of Rufus. He was unsure if Rufus knew the relevant spell to repel it but it didn't really matter, either way, a message would be sent and besides. Moriarty wasn't the one who arranged it, he had gone through several proxies as someone else had arranged the deed. The question was, how and if Rufus would learn who was responsible.

Any auror worth their salt knew the appropriate charm to repel a dementor. But they didn't expect to ever meet one, if they were lucky. Rufus certainly never expected to see that dark wraith like creature in his tiny living room, the room as cold as ice when he opened the door.

He moved by reflex, wand out at the ready, trying to catch his breath as misery was aimed his way.

"Expecto Patronum!"

Silvery light filled his apartment, the ghostly rattlesnake that erupted from his wand baring fangs as it aimed straight for the dementor. The apparition was strong enough to chase the dementor away, forcing it to dart out through the open door and down the hallway, much to the surprise of other witches and wizards in the corridor just trying to get home.

The ministry would have questions about this. He expected a letter or a visit any moment. That was fine, just fine, because he had questions too.

But first things first. He'd send an urgent owl to Remus Lupin, his fellow Order member, and tell him what had happened.

For those who don’t know, the book series Avalon: Web of Magic is a modern retelling of Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders, and the Avalon Archie. Ever since the book series ended a few years ago, fans lost track of the author Rachel Roberts and editor Robert Mandell (the creator of Jewel Riders). Well, recently they turned up in a tip to the Avalon Archive. It appears that Robert Mandell has launched a new publishing imprint called Voyager World, which is not only putting out a new novel by Rachel Roberts, but also actively working on development for an Avalon: Web of Magic animated series! https://avalonarchive.wordpress.com/ This is really exciting news for Jewel Riders fans, as it’s probably the closest we’ll ever see to an animated reboot for the show. We’ve arrived at the end of a two year project. Over in our Season Two Scripts page, you’ll find the final script for Jewel Riders: The Last Dance. This was retitled “The One Jewel” for the final release, but ever since I saw the working titles on Stormy’s site so many years ago, I’ve always been fond of “The Lady of the Lake/The Last Dance” as the pair of titles for the final episodes. It has been a privilege to share these scripts with all of you, and I hope you have enjoyed the fruit of many hours of labor over a temperamental scanner. 😀 It feels strange to think this is the last month that our update will include a script scan, as it has been a staple of our updates ever since we opened our virtual doors. I hope if you haven’t taken a chance to read some of them, you check out Season One or Season Two and enjoy all the little tidbits that didn’t make it into the final production. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter novel by British novelist J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows continues the quest for the remaining Horcruxes that Harry has not destroyed in episode 6. After the death of Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort and Death Eaters entered the ministry. Magical, killing the Minister and replacing him with a man under the control of Voldemort. Under the new regime, a discriminatory policy has been enacted: those without the blood of the magician are subject to arrest, registration, and deprivation of the right to use the wand, a policy similar to that of the time. Under this darkening situation, Severus Snape becomes the new headmaster of Hogwarts and Harry Potter is “The No. 1 killer” wanted by the Ministry of Magic.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione did not return to Hogwarts, where they hunted and destroyed Voldemort’s Horcruxes together. On the way, they discover quite a bit about Dumbledore’s mysterious past. And the Deathly Hallows – the treasures used to escape death. With four relics left by Dumbledore in the will. And the assistance of a hidden benefactor, Harry, Ron, and Hermione together destroy the Horcruxes, eventually defeating Voldemort and saving the wizarding world, But they have to pay a high price for how many relatives are killed in the battlefield. The book begins with Lord Voldemort and his armies plotting to attack Harry Potter when he leaves the house. Dursley’s last time. Just before Harry’s protection at the Dursley family expires at the time of Harry’s passing, the man of the Order of the Phoenix arrives to escort him to a safe new home.

RUFUS & LEAH POYNTZ : WIZARDING WORLD

Both muggleborns, both adopted into the same family as infants, coming as quite a surprise to their parents.

Both went to ILVERMORNY SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY where Rufus was sorted into Thunderbird House, excelling at Herbology and Defence Against The Dark Arts. He also had quite a knack for Divination. Leah was sorted into Pukwudgie House, excelling at Charms and Potions.

Leah spent the last three summers of her education tutoring young witches and wizards (as children in magical families are home schooled until they attend school at 11). Meanwhile Rufus was determined to become an Auror, getting quite a bit of tutoring from Leah himself in Potions.

As adults, Leah went onto train as a Healer while Rufus became an Auror for MACUSA.

This verse is flexible to suit either modern Wizarding World or Fantastic Beasts in the 1920’s-30’s. In the FB version, becoming involved with No-Maj’s (muggles) is strictly prohibited in America at the time and magical secrecy is of the utmost importance.

If threads are set in the UK, Rufus spends a year teaching Defence Against The Dark Arts at Hogwarts and Leah has taken up a position either at St Mungo’s or at Hogwarts as an extra pair of hands to Madam Pomfrey.

BIOGRAPHY

When Rufus was only 10 weeks old, his mother gave him up for adoption. He grew up in El Paso, Texas, and his adoptive parents Emil and June were very loving, eager to raise a child after trying and failing to have one of their own. Four years into his new life, his parents adopted again, a baby girl named Leah. Rufus and his sister became thick as thieves and he was very protective of her.

Rufus is very close to his adopted grandmother, Ada, who taught him to cook, speak Dutch and become a perfect gentleman. 

She also taught him how to use and manage his psychic abilities, which began showing when he was five years old. His ability works by touch, whether of an object or a person, offering Rufus flashes of information about their history. Now and again, he might get a premonition, but these are rare and especially draining.

Tragedy struck when Rufus was 12, however. After days of confusing visions and a horrible feeling that something bad was going to happen, 8 year old Leah was abducted in the night. Though Rufus tried to protect her, the boy was no match for the unknown kidnapper and she disappeared from his life just like that. The boy swore it wasn't a man, but a creature, though nobody believed him. Exhausted by the assumption that he was simply suffering from stress and trauma, Rufus stopped trying to convince his parents that Leah was taken by something, not someone. Ever since, Rufus has hoped to find his sister, delving deep into paranormal research through the years.

It was this mystery and another that drove Rufus to an interest in mysteries and crime, eventually leading to establishing himself as a private detective.

When he later in life tried to reconnect with his birth mother, the orphanage could only provide him with newspaper cuttings about her death, a murder which was never solved. He had no leads, no links, nothing to go on. All he knew was the staggering truth that his mother had been a sex worker, her murder swept aside because of her status in life. But she'd been sure to give him up to a good home before her death, and this loyalty stayed with Rufus. Her last act of love was a stark reminder that nobody should be judged for their position in life.

With a desire to discover the truth behind the loss of two very important women in his life, Rufus worked hard to do the same for other families, to try and bring them the closure or answers they needed.

After hounding the owner of Diamond Detective Agency for a whole summer, he initially started out as a PA / coffee boy, taking on baby cases such as missing cats and stolen bikes. He's allergic to cats but loves them anyway, grateful for the opportunity to start training himself as a detective. He did this while keeping his abilities secret, knowing full well that if anybody knew, they’d ridicule him right out of the agency, as well as calling all his work into question.

It was his accidental solving of another detective’s case that earned him a place as an official PI. Rufus figured out the most likely suspect involved in the kidnapping of a young boy who was promptly rescued and reunited with their family. Since then his skills have only gotten better and higher profile cases find their way to his desk. However, this doesn’t stop him from taking on private investigations of his own.

VERSES

Main Based in Texas (but willing to travel between states), Rufus works as a Private Investigator. Rufus had a pretty normal upbringing. A happy family, a nice house. But the ‘disappearance’ of his younger sister, Leah, and a harrowing experience he learned to be a ‘Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind’ tore all of that apart. Learning and researching as much as he possibly could about extraterrestrial contact on Earth, Rufus is still searching for his sister. He uses his job and his psychic abilities to aid him in that quest.
