So, we are asking partners to vote “no” to a union – not because we’re opposed to unions but because we believe we will best enhance our partnership and advance the operational changes together in a direct relationship. - Rossann Williams, president of Starbucks North America finally gets to the point, 🤮

Magnets?
This was a first attempt at what eventually turned into Dear heart, it’s me. They have basically nothing in common besides both being Rossanne and set at Anne’s uncle’s house--this was set in the late 1830s, and was inspired by something @the-cross-the-albatross said about JCR jumping over a hedge to hide from Anne’s father, and Anne and JCR then having to hide in a shed to take magnetic readings.
James squares his shoulders; his face, still pale, assumes an unfortunately familiar expression. He’s preparing for some useless noble gesture. “Well,” he says, “perhaps if I spoke to him...”
Anne can’t help it: she stamps her foot in irritation. Truly, the man is impossible.

Week 6 Bye Sisters... What is cancel culture and how can it be toxic?
#hashtag Politics and #hashtag activism can lead to great things. Hashtags are a way to facilitate connectivity on social media platforms through key markers, events or activities (Zappaviga). They facilitate user engagement with social issues and politics surrounding them. As users are more vocal on issues that are important to them, they are likely to ‘call out’ injustices and issues as they see fit. This can lead to a group of users coming together to ‘Cancel’ someone for their negative actions, whether current or past, and can negatively affect their career.
The idea that as soon as you’ve done something wrong, that you no longer have any value in a society is undoubtably toxic. It leaves no room for personal growth or time for reflection. As Hannah Montana said ‘Everybody makes mistakes, Everybody has those days’. Each individual makes mistakes, but it is how they change and adapt from the lessons learnt that give them merit. While there is value to some aspects of cancel culture, such as the historic and inspiring #metoo movement and the calling out of racism in society such as in the case of Rossanne Barr, but that again more related to a much larger ‘call out’ movement. Cancel culture is a very poignant example of how hashtags can lead to the amplification of an issue in a quick manor, often when all arguments are not presented or presented well.
Cancel culture is a large part of Content Creators worst nightmares. Users can take an out of context post, tweet, video or audio and make an assumption on a creators values, morals and sense of self. This can send their following backwards, to where audiences can watch the real time ‘subscriber’ count on popular social media statistics and analytic site ‘Social blade’ turn red. This means the creator is actively loosing more subscribers than they are gaining in a single day, month or year.
This was the case for beauty guru James Charles. James Charles is an online creator in the YouTube Beauty and makeup community, with 15 million subscribers on the platform , he was undoubtably one of the biggest creators on the platform. James was involved in a scandal with fellow content creator Tati Westbrook, a smaller content creator in the same field, who ‘exposed’ him for alledged preditory and childish behaviour in May of 2019. She alleged that Charles was attempting to use his influence and ‘clout’ to co-erse straight men into engaging in sexual activites with him. These claims were then backed up and supported by buisness man and beauty influencer Jeffree Star. This is pivotal as the beauty community holds a lot of respect for Star, his company and products, due to his longevity in the industry, and the positive documentary series directed and released by Shane Dawson. The series discussed previous controversies, and displayed how Star is savvy enough to run both a highly successful makeup company, and the personal brand of an influencer and creator.
In direct response to her video, James released an apology video of his own trying to explain why he promoted sugar bear hair whilst disregarding the sexual assault claims. It is assumed James used a co-orientation theory of public relations, where he did not think about how the video would be read by the publics this issue was presented to, he rather looked at his own general public of a younger and loyal YouTube audience. This response was taken very negatively by the community, with James Charles losing approximately 3 million of subscribers within a week. James has since spoken of the large mental toll this took on him, citing anxiety and depression. He felt worthless, loosing not only self confidence and fans, but major brand deals which had uncapped potential for the young star. It took him approximately a year to gain back the respect of the community, as he fought his way back up through the popular app ‘Tiktok’ collaborating with some of the biggest on the platform to better his image and increase his following, whilst staying out of drama, and keeping to himself.
In essence, cancel culture, while it can be revolutionary, can also be very toxic. It sends the message that as soon as you make a mistake, you have lost all your value and worth. Rather, it should send a message of growth and discovery, as we all try to find out who we are, and where we belong in society.

Is the pandemic slowing the zero-waste movement?

Helping to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus might mean a step backward for environmentalists.
In recent years, many U.S. cities and states have passed legislation to ban the use of single-use objects such as bottles, straws and bags.
Now with the pandemic, single-use plastics seem to be making a come back.
Food delivery jumped 67 percent, according to data from market research firm NPD Group as more and more people order takeout from restaurants.
Stores, such as Target, have announced that their workers will refrain from handling people’s reusable bags and are asking customers who bring them to bag their own items.
Starbucks announced it will no longer fill up customers’ reusable mugs in an effort to reduce transmission of the virus.
"We are optimistic this will be a temporary situation," Rossann Williams, Starbucks' president, said in a letter posted on the company's website.
The Center for Disease Control advises restaurant owners and businesses to use disposable food service items and avoid the use of containers and utensils brought in by customers.
The Surfrider Foundation, whose mission is to protect the world’s oceans, acknowledges that it’s not an easy decision to choose between avoiding the spread of the virus and reversing the progress they’ve made toward a sustainable future.
“Once the pandemic is contained, we will continue to seek enforcement for plastic bag bans to reduce plastic pollution at the source,” said the organization in a post on its website.
“This pandemic also shouldn't be used as an opportunity to roll back protections of our nation’s clean air and water for our communities,” the group wrote.

"HAHA I'M 6.5 FT!!!"
Oork, once the friendly ship that made her sweets, but now a giant mech whos armor was a deep purple with golden accents and fire red biolights looked down at her, the four eyes squinted as he tried to focus on her, "Oh! Ms. Rossanne! I'm dreadfully sorry I almost didn't recognize you!" Phreak glowered at her from on top of the mech's crowned head.
