Holy shit, I found a site for downloading old games for free and they have Legacy of Rosemond Hill! I was obsessed with that game as a kid.

What is one cool thing that you like about your WIP or have read about in someone else's WIP?
Hi 'Mous!
Since this is my "promote other Writeblrs" blog I'll answer for ones I've seen around (if you want me to answer for myself, feel free to send another ask to @druidx).
The 'utility artificers' in @ashen-crest's Rosemond St Series (it is technically a series now, right?). I'm a big sucker for 'high fantasy, but make it urban' (as opposed to urban fantasy's 'take IRL and give it magic' (though I do like that - but I digress)). Plus the whole setup she's got going on in that series is a huge itch-scratcher for me, filling the niche left by people such as A. Lee. Martinez and KE Mills.
Cyberpunk hackers, my beloved! @digital-chance's Nova Futurum looks awesome, and their main character in that is a hacker. I'm excited to see more of their work!
I'd be horribly remiss if I didn't mention @artbyeloquent's Hill To Die On. This looks at the paranormal from a distinctly Jewish POV which is utterly fascinating to me, and also Elo's writing style is just 🤌️ *mwah*!
Talking of writing style, for that and her just truly epic worldbuilding, I have to recommend @faelanvance. Both The Last Wild Place and The Whale God's Wife** will be an epic of the ages from what I've seen from the excerpts and snips. I'll take 'things I want on my shelf' for 10, Alex 😅️
And last, but not at all least, is my darling @aquadestinyswriting's The Wizard's Tale and The Trouble with Meredith. Now, with these, I'm highly biased, because the 'cool' thing about these are they're set in our highly modified version of the Fighting Fantasy World of Titan TTRPG. Also her characters are epic and I loves 'em ur honour.
...Oops. I was supposed to go off with this right? 😅️
Anyway, thanks for the question and have fun checking out some of these superb writers, 'Mous!
🫖️🌿️
(** Fae - is that the right intro post for that WIP? Please let me know if not so I can fix)

for the ask: 2, 5, 6, 14!
2. Game(s) you're currently playing: Answered!
5. Game(s) coming out that you’re looking forward to: Answered!
6. A series you’ve enjoyed since your early days of gaming and still enjoy to this day whether it still has games coming out or is one you return to: Answered! However I will add: the Barbie games <3 My favorites were always Barbie Secret Agent and [exact menu intonation] Barbie Horse Adventures: Mystery Ride CD-ROM! I also played Rapunzel, Sparkling Ice Show, Pet Rescue, Ocean Discovery, and whatever was on Barbie.com from about 2003-2009.
14. A song that’s sure to hit your nostalgia buttons: This one from Legacy of Rosemond Hill, a horse game I was absolutely terrible at but boy I sure did love watching the credits for this song alone!

Reviewing Old Horse Games part 1: Legacy of Rosemond Hill
A classic, an absolute BANGER of a game. Ancient as hell, 10/10 for nostalgia. These potato horses are just amazing. This is one of the ones I officially completed for the first time at the ripe old age of 26.
Tumblr media
Something I was very surprised to see in this old fossil was that the horses are actually different heights?
Tumblr media
She’s so tall!
Tumblr media
Anyway, gameplay is... Fine For What It Is. Only one movement speed, which is painfully slow. You can only carry one thing at a time, so there’s a lot of walking back and forth. Easily the worst part is cleaning out the stalls; the wheelbarrow’s turning radius is terrible, the doorway is very tiny, the door closes on its own, and one wrong move gets you stuck in a wall with no choice but to reload. Hell on earth.
Tumblr media
This game taught me (incorrectly) that the three events in 3 Day Eventing are show jumping, steeplechase, and cross country. There wasn’t any dressage in the game. I did like taking my horses out on “trail rides” to the beach.
Tumblr media
Something that stuck with me is how there was a “pulse” meter when the horse was galloping. If it ran at full tilt for too long, it would begin to breathe heavily and if you overexerted your horse in a competition, you’d get kicked out by the vet.
Tumblr media
Not a lot of story going on. There’s a bit, something about the legacy, but nothing outstanding. Impress the boy, beat your rival, but even beating her isn’t necessary. No difference in ending.
Tumblr media
See that little triangle? That’s a loose stone. Honestly for all of these games I was just thinking “I wish I could go back and revolutionize 3d Modeling with my mediocre concept of shapes.”
Tumblr media
This is Melissa. She’s your rival. Her horse is named Comet.
Tumblr media
Which reminds me, I’m going to go over some horse names at the ends of these. Alpha is the starter horse, he’s a reddish chestnut. Comet Melissa’s black horse, he is very fast. Then there’s Rocky (love interest’s horse) and Speed (the one that had the baby). The horses I acquired in this run were Darling (grey), Mosaik (appaloosa), and Sunny Girl (palomino).

there was this one early 2000′s-ish horse game i remember playing at my cousin’s house and the only reason i remember it is because i found a glitch where you would just fall through the ground in a certain spot when you were riding. i was never able to identify it but it resembled something along those lines, not sure if that was it. i feel like there was a british guy or at least a male npc somewhere in the game and you could freeroam and weren’t restricted to courses. i played exactly 4 horse games growing up and it’s the only one i still can’t id.

I love having weird random deep dives into Google to try and find something that I barely have memories of xD tonight's gem is Let's Ride: Legacy of Rosemond Hill. Which I rarely ever actually played because I was so shit at the controls. But I Loved watching my older sister play. 😍 We love shitty angular early 2000s graphics

so then I was thinking “all I need to do now is find the weird Canadian horse game that was bundled with that even weirder mystery game” and I found it because I thought I remembered something about “rosemont”
it was the Diamond Mystery of Rosemond Valley and Let’s Ride: Rosemond Hill which were two profoundly weird games and I was starting to think that I’d hallucinated them
ah, memories

Reviewing Old Horse Games: Conclusion (for now)
Man, I miss Adeline. So now, I’m going to put these in a numbered list with rankings and a verdict, so to speak, because that’s what you do on the internet.
Lucinda Green’s Equestrian Challenge (2006) ~ Graphics: 9/10 | Gameplay: 8/10 | Replayability: 5/10 | Horse customization: 9/10 | Would I recommend: Absolutely / 10
Legacy of Rosemond Hill (2000) ~ Graphics: 4/10 | Gameplay: 6/10 | Replayability: 5/10 | Horse Customization: 2/10 | Would I recommend: Yes, if you can look past the graphics / 10
Barbie Mystery Ride (2003)~ Graphics: 7/10 | Gameplay: 6/10 | Replayability: 7.5/10 | Horse customization: 7/10 | Would I recommend: If you’ve got a few hours to kill / 10
3 Day Eventing (I can’t find a release date)~ Graphics: 5/10 | Gameplay: 4/10 | Replayability: 3/10 | Horse customization: 0/10 Would I recommend: Only if you have the nostalgia or you see the charm / 10
Barbie Riding Club (1998) ~ Graphics 6/10 | Gameplay: 4/10 | Replayability | 4/10 | Horse customization: 4/10 | Would I recommend: Great for its target age / 10
Equestriad (2001) ~ Graphics: 2/10 | Gameplay: 3/10 | Replayability: Doesn’t really apply | Horse customization: 4/10 Would I recommend: Just play Lucinda Green’s / 10
Riding Star (1999)~ Graphics: 2/10 | Gameplay | 3/10 | Replayability: Hard to say | Horse customization: 0/10 | Would I recommend: Hell no / 10
Royal Horse Show (2003)~ Graphics: 5/10 | Gameplay: 2/10 | Replayability: 1/10 | Horse customization: 4/10 | Would I recommend: Literally only for toddlers who just learned how to use a mouse / 10
Detailed notes under the cut.
Lucinda Green’s was the closest that came to feeling like actually riding. Although the gameplay itself can be a bit repetitive, it’s still a good feeling gameplay. Horse animations are the best out here and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were motion captured. You can see that the most in the dressage.
Rosemond Hill is an unpolished potato but it’s definitely the best out of those around the time it was published. Biggest gripe is the invisible walls on the cross country course and the clipping that’s so bad you have to restart. Also, every time I wanted to save, I had to restart the game because it wouldn’t screenshot the save file properly, but I won’t hold that against it.
Barbie Mystery Ride is a fun afternoon. Cutscenes are skippable, puzzles are easy, and they’re fast. Biggest aspect of the replayability for me was making new saves to see what kind of winner’s circle prizes I’d get. If you’re not into that part, it’s still a good one-shot.
