Andy is a dog anthro who has familial feelings for his whole system, specifically seeing himself as an older brother. He wears the fashions of the early 2000s, especially denim, layered shirts, and baggy pants. He loves dogs and always asks to pet people's dogs when the system are out. He is easygoing and friendly, making him good at handling social situations for the system as well as providing a calming presence to his headmates. In true older brother fashion, he enjoys bonding with his sibling headmates by showing them video games as he plays them. If the system has pets, he will enjoy taking care of them, and even if not, he will enjoy learning about pet care.

I find fan edits of ttrpg shows hysterical. Cause it’s just the most dramatic music set over clips of just people at a table. And you have to quickly sleuth by outfit and background what scene and character we’re talking about.

it's so funny to me that caleb and veth really did just trade off the job of intensely pining for the other at like the halfway point of the campaign. like, imo, nott in the early days did not behave in any real romantic or even romance-adjacent ways toward him--I imagine it would be very hard to even think in that way when you hate what you look like so much, have such low self-esteem, and are actively lying about your entire past, including a secret husband. caleb, on the other hand, is kind of diving directly back into the sort of relationship he had with astrid and eadwulf. very close, very intimate, we-huddled-for-warmth-together-and-oops-it-led-to-something-else sort of thing. he is the one who expresses that he's fine with it if people think he and nott are romantically together when they're talking to keg. nott is the one who pushes back on that. he calls her his life partner. unknowingly, he compares his feelings for nott to nott's feelings for yeza. his behavior only really starts to change after he finds out about veth's husband because suddenly all of that other stuff is rendered inappropriate in retrospect. but even then he compliments her to yeza over dinner in the most awkward of ways, he admits to being jealous, he calls yeza "a lucky man" to have her, he stares at veth and yeza closed bedroom door for far too long, he creates an entire arcane tower with room for her family just so she'll stay with him. in general, his behavior is not, um, totally and completely platonic about it, you know?

like, veth's feelings for caleb are canonical and therefore indisputable in their existence, but caleb in the early days was not that dissimilar to how veth was acting near the end of the campaign. it really paints a picture of "right person, wrong time" in the way things just didn't line up for them. or, as veth would say: "in another world, maybe"

Yet, it is true that :

1) Butler doesn't see Artemis as a son per se (eg B1 and B5, Butler thinks of Artemis as akin to a little brother or younger close friend - hard to see yourself in a paternal role for someone over whom you have little power)

and 2) Artemis takes up the space in Butler's life that would be occupied by a child.

your ISAT swap AUs are amazing!!! I love the differences between their designs when they're in different roles!!! I'm curious about the difference between Researcher!Odile and Traveler!Odile, I would guess those two would be the most similar between all the options. When it comes to AUs there's so much you can do with the time loops but the world of ISAT is so incredibly written that you can focus entirely on pre-canon and it's still incredibly interesting!

You're not incorrect looking at Researcher!Odile and Traveler!Odile like they'd be the most similar. And they do share the strongest backstory roots. But they took it in very, VERY different ways. What if, instead of being content in Ka Bue and living there for 40 years, Odile wanted to find out more about her mother's country at a younger age? What if Odile felt that insecurity of "wanting to belong" in a way that made her feel like her true place must be in Vaugarde? What if she dived deep into her mother's country. Learnt the language. Observed the customs and rituals and quirks of the culture. Walked from one end of the map to the other. And back again. And talked to people. And grew to love Vaugarde so much she didn't want to 'go home' to Ka Bue... But she's not exactly at home in Vaugarde, either. She hasn't made any effort to leave, and has now spent more years wandering these lands than living in her own childhood country. But she's not making any plans to stay, either. She's just... there. Maybe waiting to find a reason to stay for good. Or find a reason to give up and return to the place she was before. pfft but anyway!! YOU GET IT. I'm more interested in the pre-game backstories and how the teams met instead of focusing on the time-loop shenanigans right now! The time loops can wait! Worldbuilding and backstories and how the teams met is what is fueling me like an unhinged rocket right now!

merfolk in general are just. horrible horrible polyglots. their brains are already hardwired for language and quick language acquisition that remains active all their lives, further helped by retaining a high neural plasticity for their long lives, and especially enjoy complex language and language-based play and problem solving. but they also tend to have a lot of their society arranged where there's often multiple different languages at play within the same area, and only really stops being so once you get into especially small villages that have below the merfolk norm for outside contact. every merfolk alive today knows at least two languages, but most of them know far more than that, especially because one of those two will be the common-technical language. its been standardized and wide-scale implemented across the merkingdom after their dominance, to help bridge the gap between these different languages, basically as a successful version of esperanto. but its a trade language, and is mostly used for information you might want to reach as many people as possible, such as laws or business dealings or public announcements or the like. most merfolk don't view it as and don't treat it as a language proper, and its not what they prefer to converse in if they have another choice, usually finding it pretty limiting and restrictive, which is why its called common-technical.

miranda, being a royal who is regularly in contact with many different people around the merkingdom and regularly expected to be fully able to converse with them to do her job, knows just. so many languages. i might be changing exactly how many soon, but last time i counted it was in the low teens. like its just a perfect storm of her brain being wired for swift language acquisition and having a job that requires it and a position that means shes constantly around people from all around the merkingdom. not to mention having to know english too, which isn't just not her first language, it's not even her fourth language.

meanwhile, aaravi knows english and a little bit of hindi, less because of her mother and moreso because of her nana... its not that her mother never used it with her, but she was. less focused on using it or teaching aaravi, let's say. nana mishra uses it a lot more and is more interested in teaching aaravi when she asks her, especially in the intermittent period after her mom died and nana mishra was able to come back into her life to help aaravi pick up the pieces (though not after aaravi kind of. got left on her own. for an unfortunate amount of time). its just also fallen by the wayside with aaravi's whole Everything Else and kind of having a hard time accepting her nana's help and kind of being terrified of her (of no fault of her nana's, aaravi's just. she's just really traumatized after Everything, alright. having someone try to offer her help afterwards, especially when aaravi's scared of getting singled out as half human and half monster, is just. it's not something she can bring herself to trust.)
