rodney teaches john to be selfish is such a self-indulgent fic (both for me and john lmao) i'm interpreting this as excitement so here's rodney making john take the day off work to go surfing as his first lesson in selfishness:

"Go check the hut."

John was sure his eyes lit up as he took off running, pulling the door to the hut open and laughing loudly in excitement when he saw the two brand new surf boards leaning against the wall. Matching black wetsuits hung above them.

"Rodney, how did you pull this off?" John asked, excitement building. It had been so long since John had gone surfing.

"Trust me, you don't even want to know what I had to offer Caldwell and Landry to pull this off, and you definitely owe Elizabeth and Lorne because they frankly did most of the work. That doesn't matter though. Are you ready to enjoy an afternoon of selfish indulgence, Colonel?" Rodney's eyes were dancing with excitement, and John knew it couldn't be just to learn how to surf. He didn't analyze it further than that, but he felt butterflies in his stomach anyways.

"Definitely."
