And she comes across this weird group of academics who not only think people have rights and should be respected (ICK!), they treat their PROPERTY with that same level of consideration?

She must be looking at these people like Boomers look at Millennials who treat their dogs better than the Boomers raised their own children

i think the world would be a magical place if more people gave up trying to turn their massive worldbuilding documents into a giant novel series or video games that they realistically have no capacity or real desire to complete on their own and will die without seeing the light of day, and instead did what they were always meant to do: create elaborate ttrpg systems and settings

So ... Pacific Rim was great and dumb at the same time, incredibly well-executed one-off, great world depth, I love how they have a coherent magic system (drifting) that extends way beyond what is convenient to our heroes, I can see how Newt would be compromised by the aliens ... good thing they never made any more.

“Buck, you’re hurt,” Eddie says, but he needs this. That’s always when Eddie fights things hardest – when he needs them.

Buck finds the spot on Eddie’s neck that takes him apart, but he doesn’t suck, doesn’t bite. He keeps it paintbrush soft, dragging the touch back up his jaw.

“You made me dinner,” he whispers against the hinge of it.

“Mm,” is all Eddie can say, because Buck’s good at this. Good at bleeding the tension out of Eddie. He’s not sure he’s ever been this good at anything.

Buck presses his lips into Eddie’s hairline because Eddie’s let himself fall against Buck’s shoulder, half in Buck’s lap, half beside him. “I told you not to make me dinner – that was supposed to be my thing.”

Eddie raises a hand to smooth the bandage on Buck’s neck. “You can’t tell me what to do.” It’s the kind of childlike petulance that only ever comes from bone-deep exhaustion. Buck laughs and hooks a finger beneath Eddie’s chin, tips it up, and kisses him, slow and lingering. “You love it when I tell you what to do.”

A shudder runs through Eddie, and he bites his bottom lip until Buck tugs it loose. “And what do you want me to do now?”

thinking about how pediatricians in star wars probably screen for force sensitivity, from asking family history to checking midicholorian counts to developmental milestone checks like “does your child every seem capable of moving and/or pushing things without touch?” and then they get referred to like, the jedi ig??? ‘yeah you can expect a home visit in two weeks they’re pretty good at seeing children early, now that other referral? yeah we’re booked out for 38 months but if you can travel two planets over you may be able to be seen quicker’
