I know this is gonna be controversial but honestly, I would’ve loved to see Kathleen with Rick (not school shooter Rick). He treated her with kindness and respect, and I absolutely LOVEEE the scene where he’s walking her home and talking to her about taking care of herself and the importance of self-love. Actually, I just loved Rick in general and I’m so sad he was cast into the Degrassi black hole.

hi moottt how was ur day?
i have some bookish questions for u bc why not
-what is ur favourite genre of literature?
-what are your top 5 favourite books?
-what are your top 3 favourite authors?
-do you have a favourite book character? if so, who are they? (feel free to list more than one)
-what is your favourite romance trope?
-what do you like to see in a main character?
-what are your thoughts on queer literature?
-what is a bookish pet peeve you have?
-do you like to purchase books, borrow them, or read them online?
-do you often read books translated from other countries?
thats all for now :) have a nice day
hello! i’m doing okay in the middle of moving tho so stressful haha
help did i never answer this? i’m sorry i’m actually tumblr illiterate like crazy
My fav genre is probably hm… def fiction haha young adult and contemporary…? it said those were genres i’m so sorry i don’t know the names of them and i’m an anxious mess! but if it’s got gay people and mental illness i’ll take it. i like dystopian as well!
top five NOT IN ORDER LOL
-girl in pieces by kathleen glasgow
-solitaire by alice oseman
-radio silence by alice oseman
-the perks of being a wallflower by soeben chbosky
-blood of olympus by rick riordan
(they change all the time haha)
-for authors i would def say
-rick riordan
-alice oseman (obv)
-and hm i haven’t read more than one of glasgows books so possibly suzzanne collins maybe? AUGHH IM SO INDECISIVE! (i do have fav fanfic authors tho haha)
NICO DI ANGELO THE SON OF HADES AND WILL SOLACE THE SON OF APOLLO THEYRE FROM RICK RIORDANS GREEK DEMIGODS SERIES(S) AND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH THEYRE MY SPECIAL INTETEST THEIR COOL AS FUCK AND HE IS SO ME I AM SO THEM THEYRE MY EVERYTHING AND I LOVE THEM MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF (wait that’s not a good comparison uhh) I LOVE THEM MORE THEN FOOD ITSELF 🗣️
as someone who is demiromantic i’ve got to say friends to lovers since nothing else makes sense in my mind haha other then that hurt/comfort and just being domestic are UGH love it! SUNSHINE X GRUMPY as well. I eat it up everytime.
i love when main characters are similar to me so mentally ill gay very sad etc etc lol but besides that i would say complex? i hate it when authors make “i’m so happy all the time” characters the main character like i need DEPTH where’s the FLAVOR. so i suppose just not being perfect?
there needs to be more of it lol. i’m loving how much of it is being made to day but tbh in my opinion some authors do it wrong… i love when being queer is a major part of a characters personality because well they’re proud! but it’s when an author makes the entire character based off of that with no other personality traits. sexualizing queer relationships too like…. yikes! would love to see some more aroace and genderqueer rep that isn’t just boy/nb/girl tho!
when endings are rushed! it’s terrible i remember i loved this one book when i was younger that had the og “i’m nothing like y’all” as the cover haha. i forget what it was called sorry! but there was a great story and then it ended with her friends saying “sorry for excluding you and they went on to win the state math fair!” what. YOU JUST HAD A FULLY FLESHED OUT STORY AND YOU DID THAT??? i’m sure nobody likes them but they especially piss me off. skipping over important scenes as well and just showing the aftermath! non floppy books. FIX ITTTTT. also tbh smut? i mean i don’t mind it but that’s what ao3 is for i’m fine with the smut where they don’t show it like in charlie and nicks first time in heartstopper where it’s just kinda vague but as soon as i see a dick beint described im OUT. and books that just are smut like dude there’s so many better things you could be writing about!
ngl i am a massive book purchaser. i used to get them all from the library but thennn i got a bookshelf and discovered what annotating is… i just love being able to go back on what i’ve read whenever i want! and the covers are pretty :)
no actually! i don’t think i ever have tbh? i think the only time that happened was when i translated an official nico di angelo short story from italian haha
thank you if you listened to my yap! also i’m so sorry i didn’t see this :( also if i already responded to this and i forgot you can just kill me please and thank you. also have a good day too so sorry i didn’t see this! :(

ANOTHER AU!? I know what you're saying... Gwen, you're nuts. But not only are you absolutely right, I think this one might be my most ambitious one yet. As a young nerd, there were two groups. The Marvel fans and the DC fans. And while the rivalry certainly has calmed down a bit, I was almost always torn. So, earlier in the week, I decided to do the one thing that every fanfic writer has tried at least once.
A Marvel/DC crossover.
But unlike the typical realm merger, to put it in Mortal Kombat terms, this is a universe where both properties coexist. For example, picture a group of people walking to a Big Belly Burger while listening to Just the Facts with J. Jonah Jameson. That's just a fraction. I have an ENTIRE starting cast as well.

So this has been something that's been asked for a few times, so after a long times work, here we have it! A hypothetical voice cast for the characters of Autobot Academy. If there's a character you don't see, it's as we don't want to rush figuring out a character. We may update this list in the future, however it'll be in our own time, so we won't be taking any questions about specific missing characters. And hey, if you have your own voices that don't match up with these, then feel free to stick with that!

PUNK BAND AU
two rival bands battle it out for the headlining spot at local punk bar, The Flaming Kitten.
Task Force X
Harley Quinn - Lead Singer
Tumblr media
a fearless and rambunctious performer, always leaving the entire room captivated and in complete awe
a vocal style by the likes of Kathleen Hanna and Kat Bjelland
Harley’s been known to push the boundaries a few times; stage diving, smashing bottles on stage and starting the occasional(ish) fight
but her undeniable charm and talent keeps their shows booked and their bills paid
Rick Flag - Lead Guitar
Tumblr media
flag never fails to wow the crowd with his face melting guitar solos, which he could seemingly play in his sleep
he almost seems unbothered as he glowers out to the audience, lit cigarette dangling from his lips as he nearly blows out the speakers
if he’s not on stage, he’s almost always swarmed by a gaggle of groupies
but every night garners the same response; he shrugs them off with a swig of his beer as he waltzes back to the green room
Pissmaker - Rhythm Guitar
Tumblr media
the name ‘Pissmaker’ started as a joke, but he found it to be a lot catchier than ‘Christopher Smith’
(plus he claims it ‘strikes fear in the hearts of his enemies’)
if there’s ever a quarrel within the band, you can be sure he’s involved somehow
but he’s good at carrying equipment and he’s half decent at keeping rhythm, so they keep him around
Ratcatcher 2 - Synth
Tumblr media
cleo (stage name ‘Ratcatcher 2’) is the real brains behind the music
on stage, she’s constantly bopping around, dancing her heart out behind her ever-growing collection of wacky, wonderful synths and keyboards
off stage, her head is almost always face down in a notebook, frantically scribbling ideas for the next song, her keyboard never too far away
Abner Krill - Bass
Tumblr media
your stereotypical bassist: quiet, dark and moody
he only really opens up to cleo, feeling comfortable enough to show her his newest riffs and bass lines (which she always uses)
regardless of his shyness, he has an incredibly captivating stage presence, floating around the stage like a dark storm cloud
Nanaue - Drums
Tumblr media
hand.
drum.
Robert DuBois - Manager
Tumblr media
the (very exhausted) manager of Task Force X
you’ll almost always find him sprinting around to clean up some sort of mess, whether it’s trying to pull Harley down from dancing on the bar or diffusing a fight between Pissmaker and a drunken patron
if he’s not cleaning up everyone else’s messes, he’s sat at the bar or in the green room, a drink in one hand, pinching the bridge of his nose with the other
regardless of all the chaos, he works incredibly hard to make sure his band gets all the recognition and payoff they deserve and he loves them like family
(basically, they’d be screwed without him)

Across a Crowded Room: 2020 Videos
by Doug Reside, Curator, Billy Rose Theatre Division, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center
January 15, 2021
Tumblr media
Since 2013, more or less annually, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts has invited new musical theatre writers, composers, and actors to Across A Crowded Room–a musical theatre incubator where strangers meet and write musicals together.  There is perhaps nothing more clichéd at this point than to note how unusual the past 12 months have been, but early in the pandemic it became clear there was interest in continuing the series in 2020, even in a modified way. Last year seven groups created new 20 minute musicals with the feedback from experts in the industry. The teams presented their final work, not on the stage of the Bruno Walter Auditorium as is the recent custom, but via pre-recorded videos produced for a special Zoom event. Today, we present those eight performances for the world to see. It was a difficult year in many respects, but the quality of the work created this year is among the best I have seen in the seven years of the program. Enjoy the 2020 Across A Crowded Room Playlist!

Everything I Read in 2016
Tumblr media
For the third year in a row, I logged every novel, short story collection, poetry compilation, graphic novel, and collected edition of monthly comics I read, excluding individual monthly comics (on which I continued to fall catastrophically behind) and anything I read (and reread, and reread again) for my day job. My only big change? A lot of these books were read on my iPad Mini. And a good number were for my gay book club (you can guess which ones).
If you don’t yet keep track of your reading, you should start in 2017. It’s your best bet for hitting a reading goal, and for folks like me who read a ton, it’s a nice way to recall books that otherwise departed your memory.
For the tl;dr crowd, here are my Top 13 for the year, in the order in which I read them:
On Writing, Stephen King
Binti, Nnedi Okorafor
The Girls, Emma Cline
I Am a Hero Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, Kengo Hanazawa
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Benjamin Alire Saenz
The Hero: Book Two, David Rubín
Night Sky With Exit Wounds, Ocean Vuong
Lincoln in the Bardo, George Saunders (I read an ARC)
A Choir of Ill Children, Tom Piccirilli
Habitat, Simon Roy
Prez Vol. 1, Mark Russell, Ben Caldwell, Domo Stanton
Bones of the Coast, edited by Shannon Campbell, Jeff Ellis, Kathleen Jacques
(New X-Men Omnibus was a re-read, or it would be up here.)
The rest is below the jump!
I don’t really feel like dumping on anything this year. I definitely got burnt out on comic anthologies, and I hated A Little Life, but the good outweighs the bad. Below is the full list, divided by month, followed by a few statistics and an evaluation of my 2016 reading goals as established last January.
[A note on comics: I feel guilty that I’ve left off colorists and inkers, as they contribute so much to a book, but I defaulted to cover credits while logging my reading and don’t have most of these books on-hand to fix it now.]
January
The Amazing World of Gumball: Fairy Tale Trouble, Megan Brennan, Katy Farina, Jeremy Lawson

Total:
140 Books (up from 128 in 2015 and 87 in 2014)
Breakdown:
39 Novels or short story collections (down from 43 in 2015 and 44 in 2014)
98 Graphic novels/collected editions of comics (up from 84 in 2015 and a measly 42 in 2014)
3 Books of poetry (triple the 2015 and 2014 counts!)
About 35 Books written or edited by female authors (up from 20 in 2015 and 16 in 2014; note that I’m only counting writers and editors, not artists, and I’m counting books, not unique authors)
Roughly 19 books by (known-to-be) non-white authors (down from 30 last year but up from 9 in 2014...but both this year and last were inflated by multiple entries from manga creators)
...and at least 16 books written or edited by queer and trans authors.
So...any suggestions for 2017?
