playing Yakuza 5 in the midst of a completionist haze, watching said assassination attempt at an idol concert right the fuck now:

remembering Yakuza 5's plot years after playing it: "Oh, right, the assassination attempt at an idol concert. What the fuck?"

this climactic conversation between baba and shinada is so unhinged. like, okay, imagine you're baba, a ice-cold sniper who is slowly thawing because of your love for a swole yakuza bro, and you decide to betray your boss and your code to let his friend's daughter live — you pack up your rifle, you listen to the end of her song, and you start to leave, and this COMPLETE RANDO shows up and starts barking baseball terms at you. who is this guy? why is he so hung up on baseball? you're at an idol concert. is he a crazed fan? a crazed BASEBALL fan?? where did he come from? sign stealing??? he wants to beat you up to teach you a lesson???????

and then imagine finding out that he's… nobody? a sex club reviewer? your ongoing existential crisis made manifest?
