The folks over at Retro Bit Gaming sent over their newest venture in the retro gaming circuit the Super Retrocade. This system has several retro titles from various developers such as Capcom, Irem, G-Mode and more! There are also games that were not originally released in either the US or overseas that are great to see and of course play.

Let’s start with the packaging, it looks great, eye-catching with Mega Man on the cover, lift up the lid and you get a breakdown of the most popular bunch of the titles in the console. Flip it around you get some details and a full list of titles included. The box is made for portability as it has a built in handle. See pics below:

Taking a look inside the box, the unit is packaged nicely. At first look you get a look at one of the controllers and the unit itself. The console is is a bit smaller than my hand, it console has 2 front USB ports where you’d plug in the controllers, in the rear you’ll  find RCA and HDMI options for video as well as an SD memory card slot and of course the power port. Having the option between RCA and HDMI and realizing the differences between the 2 is astonishing, the HDMI really cleans up the imagery of these classic games. See below:

The addition of the memory card slot is great as you’d be able to save your progression & restart from those points on these classics with no problem. The controllers are light and very reactive, no complaints at all other than maybe give’em a bit more sturdier feeling. One of the features I’m very excited about that most retro systems don’t have is the ability to upgrade firmware! Meaning there will be updates for the unit where you’d have the chance to add more games onto your console. Thanks to the size of the roms and the ability to expand memory via the SD card slot, I see no issue with this and find it very welcoming. For the price of the system, and I’m sure upgrades will be very affordable as most of their products are, this is a HOT DEAL!!!

This system has hours of fun, I highly recommend to retro-fans of gaming, I also believe this is fun to play with the whole family across all ages! This is a bargain and it’s features make this a worth-while addition to ANY gamers collection! It’s a 5/5 for me!

Holy Diver finally coming to NES ⊟ 

2018 is the year this Famicom platformer gets localized, courtesy of Retro-Bit (who already released this game on its super weird Retro-Bit Generations console and is MAKING THE MOST of this license!). The news comes via John Riggs, who also revealed a Super R-Type/R-Type III multicart for SNES.

Elsewhere in Retro-Bit land, a new microconsole is available for order. The Super Retrocade has a ton of arcade and console games including Bad Dudes, Mega Man 2 and 3! Killer lineup.

I actually really like all the unexpected things this company produces. Like, these cartridges are 100% cool, and the Retro-Bit Generations was a really singular collection of games, even if it had emulation issues.

The Retro-Bit Sega Genesis Controller Mini Review

Retro-bit has brought us many different modern retro a.ccessories and hardware. Some to not was the very versatile Super RetroCade, Res Plus Nes Clone Console, Super Retro Trio, Go Retro Portable, the dual-link USB NES, SNES, and Street Fighter Genesis Controllers. Retro-bit has also brought us the Data East Multi-carts for NES and SNES.

By Far the coolest is the release of the officially License Sega Controllers for the Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Genesis Mini. These Sega controllers from Retro-bit are molded from the original genesis or Sega Saturn controllers and branded with Sega.

Sega Genesis Ice Blue Controller

Today I want to take a look at the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive controllers. The picture above is the Ice Blue Retro-Bit Sega Genesis USB Controller which I have connected to the Genesis Mini and it works perfectly with the Genesis Mini if you are looking to replace the three-button controllers that came packaged with the system.

Build & Design

The controller comes in original Genesis black, this translucent blue (which is my favorite and a translucent pink one from Limited Run Games. The controller feels just like holding an original Sega Genesis controller if my memory serves me right and its construction feels very sturdy. The  D-pad feels and functions just like the original Genesis D-pad. The action buttons also feel like the original and the controller also has two bumper (trigger) buttons as well as a mode button that brings you back to the main menu on a Genesis Mini.

Function & Specs

The Retro-bit Sega Genesis controller comes in three different forms, USB, original genesis connector and wireless which releases soon. The wireless versions of this controller come with both a USB dongle and original genesis connector dongle so you can use the controller with your Genesis mini, pc, raspberry pi, Analogue MegaSG or your original Genesis/Mega Drive.

Final Thoughts

If your looking to replace your broken old Genesis Controller or a Six button replacement controller for your Genesis Mini this Retro-Bit Sega Genesis controller is a great option and it’s officially licensed so it pretty much like buying a New Genesis Controller in 2019!
