Rep Tour Brisbane was the most fun I’ve ever had, without doing something bad!

I have social anxiety and going to my first ever concert was a big deal. 

I knew Taylor was touring with her Reputation album but I figured the tickets were expensive and I’d never been to a live music event, so why start now?Three days before, though, I saw that tickets to her Brisbane show were still for sale. The tickets were for a Tuesday night and I had work that day, plus the day after. I started looking at ways to get there from my town (about 2 hours away). I hate driving in Brisbane, plus parking would be next to impossible. I nearly quit after seeing that there were so many steps involved - I’d have to take at least two buses and figure out where to go at the main Brisbane interchange. 

I nearly gave up at that point, but my husband pointed out that if I really wanted to go, I should do it, and we’d work out a way for me to get there and back. So we booked everything and I printed out copies of all the tickets and timetables and directions, then found a friend I could meet up with and catch a ride with from a bus station in Brisbane.I caught the first bus to Brisbane, which was fine. I found my way to the second bus, and it took 30 minutes to board because there were so many people going to the concert. But I’d soon discover that there were many many more people where I was going.

I’ve. Never. Seen. That. Many. People. In. My. Life.

The stadium seated 42,000 people and I got lost trying to find the gate, food, toilets... but eventually I got in and made my way to the floor seat I’d bought. 

I sat there for the first hour after I arrived because I felt so overwhelmed. I felt tiny, overpowered by the noise and lights. I spent 20 minutes mentally trying to get up the courage to talk to the girl sitting beside me. The experience was amazing and like nothing else, I’ve ever experienced. The music was so loud, and there were fireworks, fire, lights, cages, so many stages.I’m so glad I pushed myself to go, but I don’t think I’d want to go again. I think I’m content just to sit at home and listen to music I like without being in such a big crowd!

@taylorswift @taylornation, in my creative writing class we were assigned to write an ekphrastic poem (which is basically a poem about another piece of art) in a traditional form. Being the Swiftie that I am, I chose to do mine on “Call It What You Want” in the form of a Petrarchan (Italian) sonnet, written from Taylor’s perspective. This is the final product, after some editing that was inspired through my workshop in class. Please go easy on me! My writing is still in the early stages and it is nowhere near as good as Taylor’s!

Also! I included some footnotes in the poem, which were mostly for my classmates who probably didn’t know as much about Taylor Swift, but decided to keep them for this post because I think it adds context to the poem.
