Coming from a family of unstable assassins, it’s easy to see why he is the way he is. Mercurial down to his core, Reli’s a hard man to get close to; let alone be around. “Be quiet, now.”

The sound of a male voice, not of her lover, and a hand over her mouth startled Aela out of a peaceful slumber. Blood pumping heavily in her ears, panic rising to the forefront of her mind, the young Bloodsinger heard a more fervent whispering against her ear.

“I said be quiet...” The voice was familiar. “I’m not the bad guy, but there are bad guys in the main room right now.” The concern in his voice and the familiarity had Aela’s eyes widening.

Reli.

Slowly, Aela relaxed and Reli eased his hand away from her mouth. He whispered again into her ear. “I’m going to take care of them, but in order to do that, you have to trust me. Do you trust me, Aela?”

She nodded her head and the rogue let out a soft noise of approval. “Turn over and pretend to sleep. They are coming in here, but they won’t touch a hair on your head.” Reli was gone into the shadows and the door started to turn.

Aela turned over onto her side, burrowing herself into her blankets just as the door opened. An air of malevolence overtook her normally peaceful bedroom. Then came the sounds of surprise and muffled struggling. Grunts sounded and two bodies hit the floor within a span of a couple of minutes.

“It’s okay, Aela. They won’t be causing you anymore trouble. Just stay put while I get rid of them.” Reli ordered gently and the young baker obeyed, trembling with adrenaline and fear.

For what seemed like forever, Aela stayed quiet in her bed. Reli came back in, making enough noise to let her know he was back. He sat on the edge of the bed, noting her trembling. “Aela, it’s okay now.”

Aela threw herself out of the covers and at the dark-haired rogue. “Lan isn’t here and I thought I had enough security...what did they want? What would have happened?” Her questions came out in a shaky voice. Reli sighed softly and held her in a comforting manner.

“Don’t know, sweetie, but they are gone now. It’s going to be alright...” The rogue soothed her as best as he knew how. Aela, for her part, only cried a bit. Her sense of security had always been in people and not in the physical forms of it.

For the young Bloodsinger, Reli had always been and continued to prove himself a secure rock against the storms in her life.

A stupidly late happy birthday to @dreaming-reli. This was literally the first thing I drew after a two year dry spell and it shows, but, hey. You like it, and that’s all that matters. Thank you for being an awesome friend. I mean that. I’m glad we could reconnect after everything and come out strongly for it. I think Ana and Reli are pleased, too.

After a few weeks of fruitless searching in the jungles of Tanaan, dodging patrols by virtue of an enchanted bit of jewelry about his left ring finger that allowed him to cast glamours upon himself, the enchanter returned to a little inn within Warspear.  He sneered at any who attempted to interrupt his solitude and soon retreated to room he’d rented with a bottle for the night.  The repeated failures to even get a lock upon his sister’s location frustrated the man enough to set his blood to boiling.

A scratching at the hem of his robe had a booted foot reflexively kicking out, followed by a growl.  “Fizsy.  I told you to leave and stay gone.  You think you’d be thankful I was releasing you.”

The imp shook his ugly little flame crowned head and scrambled back to the robes of the warlock he’d served for decades.  The other demonic servants he’d summoned in past had been more than pleased to stay away, but not the crafty imp.  The scratchy, high pitched voice caused his hand to clench more tightly about the glass in his hand.

“If Master cannot get the job done, have someone else do it for Master.”  The imp suggested, leaving scorch marks upon the enchanter’s robes as it climbed up his leg to perch upon his knee.  

“I attempted that, if you will remember correctly.  That Zeddicus failed to retrieve her, and only managed to locate her.  But now they’ve moved.”  His jaw clenched, chin tilting down to stare blankly at the imp.  “Mother must be overjoyed to have the run of things to herself...”  He spoke absently, having no desire to go up against the woman that had held his strings for decades.

The imp shrugged it’s tiny shoulders, fussing with it’s claws in an anxious gesture.  “Get others?  Master has many contacts..”

He shook his head roughly at that.  “Returning to Shattrath will only put me under her eyes again.  I have limited contacts in Silvermoon...and absolutely none in Draneor, which is what is needed...”  He tipped his head back against the chair, sighing as he swirled the liquid around in the glass, contemplating finishing it off and starting a fresh round.  “What should be happening is the one that lured her to that Fel-Forsaken garrison should be out hunting for her...”

He paused mid thought, the workings of his mind whirling about each other until they tumbled forth a new idea.  One borne of frustrated failure and an insanity of having been controlled by another being for so long.  “I..have done my part, have I not Fizsy?  I tried to send the leader of the scouts after her.  I searched for her myself...”  The imp nodded along patiently, waiting for the enchanter to get to the point of his ramblings.  

“I have paid enough for my sins...should not others pay for theirs?  The trolless for luring her...Zeddicus for failing her...”  The imp’s foul eyes began to gleam as he realized the path this was taking, one of chaos, pain and destruction.  His favorite kind.  Seeing the mortals destroying each other over such petty things as family was more than enough entertainment to endure being enslaved to this elf.

“I will need information, Fiszy.  I believe it’s time we visited an old flame, don’t you?  The little minx did seem well traveled and the type to get herself into all the juicy gossip.  She might have a tidbit or two to throw our way if we tempt her properly..”  The imp couldn’t help his impromptu dance of glee.  Perhaps he’d get to set something ablaze again after all.
